My voice was raspy and inconsistent and it often felt like an effort just to speak. Not a voice that one wants as a teacher. My ENT referred me to Lisa Famiglietti. After 3 weeks of 30-minute sessions twice a week and another three weeks meeting once a week, (a total of 9 sessions) my voice is now better than it has been in years. I cannot speak too highly of her. She gave me back my voice. I recommend doing the sessions over Thera, which is like Zoom. You save time and gas money. The remote sessions worked perfectly for me. Once again, if you are unhappy with your voice quality, I highly recommend Lisa Famiglietti.

Lisa Famiglietti was my therapist and she is the best of the best. At the time I was working with her, I was a music teacher and my voice improved and I was able to sing with more ease with my church music team. I have since changed careers and am not singing anymore, but now that I am close to finishing a PhD, I have time and the bandwidth to start doing my speech therapy exercises again. I am glad I recorded all of my sessions with her three years ago. Lo and behold, my singing voice is coming back again. It feels good to sing again and feel resonance in my face and body again. I don't know why her therapy exercises work, but they do! Thank you for helping me to get my joy back Dr. Famiglietti!

I am writing this review to help stroke patients and others seeking speech therapy during recovery…read more I originally wrote this review after being dismissed from Austin Speech Lab because I raised concerns about inconsistencies in my treatment, which I will summarize below. However, after I posted the original review, I was contacted by Austin Speech Lab and asked to delete it in exchange for allowing me to continue treatment with a professional therapist for one hour twice a week. Originally, my therapy schedule had been four days a week for three hours. Because I was actively seeking therapy during a critical stage of my stroke recovery, I immediately accepted the offer and deleted the review. The therapy had already been approved and paid for through 5/22/26. The following was the original review that I was asked to delete: "Three weeks ago, I suffered a stroke and began seeking speech therapy as part of my recovery. Because this is a critical time, I was looking for specialized care with experienced professionals who could provide structured and individualized support. I want to share my experience at Austin Speech Lab to help others who are looking for this type of care. I appreciate the opportunity that was provided, but there were several concerns that impacted my recovery. First, I was not aware in advance that the sessions were primarily conducted by graduate students working toward their degrees. While I understand this is part of their training, I expected more direct involvement from licensed and experienced professionals, especially as a stroke and heart attack survivor. At times, it felt like the focus was more on observation and note taking than on my recovery. On a different occasion, while I was taking a test, several students were observing me, which created a lack of privacy. I also had concerns about the accuracy of one of the longer tests. I was informed that I completed it incorrectly, specifically the test where I needed to organize pills in a case. However, after reviewing it with a friend, I confirmed that I had completed it correctly, despite the results indicating otherwise. This raised concerns about how evaluations are conducted and reviewed. Another concern is the constant rotation of graduate students. Working with a different student each day makes it difficult to maintain consistency, which I believe is essential for progress. In some cases, it also felt that certain individuals did not yet have the level of experience needed to properly guide the sessions or address the challenges I am facing. Communication was also a challenge at times. One individual was difficult for me to understand, which made it harder to follow instructions during sessions and impacted the effectiveness of the therapy. The environment was also not conducive to recovery. Some sessions took place in areas such as a kitchen, with people walking around and having side conversations nearby. This made it difficult to focus and showed a lack of attention to creating a proper therapeutic environment. I was expecting a more dedicated and individualized approach to understand my needs, along with detailed evaluations, clear findings, and guidance on next steps from a qualified professional with experience in speech therapy, especially related to stroke recovery. Instead, it often felt that the setup was more focused on student training than on patient centered care. Because of these concerns, I am now applying to another rehabilitation institution where I was assured of working with professionals who provide individualized attention in a quiet and private setting, without unnecessary observers. What frustrates me the most is that Austin Speech Lab was recommended by the hospital, yet the experience did not align with the level of specialized care I needed during such a critical time wasting a valuable time in my recovery."
