The new shop boosts an impressive array of Ale & Lager coolers with a chilled behind-the-scenes browsing space. Ample shelf and floor displays for the bottled spirits and wines. Knowledgeable staff eager to assist & recommend. But most astonishing is their Fine Wine Closet (aka Environment Controlled Chiller). Yes, the prices do reflect the use of the Chiller, but again, if you're a discerning shopper or collector you've got to add This Wise Old Dog to your list!

CBM's not my usual spot, but it's always a fun stop. Beverages from near and far can all be found here, by the case, by the nip, by all manner of bottles. The back wall of this big box-sized package store is a refrigerated case, and aisle 1, as of January 2021, is being turned into a second wall of refrigeration. Woot! I haven't been disappointed by the wine recommendations occasionally tucked between price labels, including a recommendation for Sunset Meadow Vineyards. Chris helped me find a couple light but flavorful brews, and pointed them out in the cold case too. Alas, no more New Britain Bev Mart but at least this store, Middletown, and Wallingford are still around, and I think they've got it all.

This place is conveniently located on my way home from work AND is the only one in the area that is open until 10pm every day but Sunday! I tried 3 other larger stores at about 9:30 on a Friday that were within about a mile of this place, but this was the only one that was open. You may pay an extra dollar for a bottle of something at the huge store down the road, but for the convenience and great service by someone who remembers you, I'd say it's worth it.

He said, "if I carry it, I'll take it." As a first time customer I thought this was a bit unnecessary. He obliged and took my bottles and I bought a 12 pack of cold beer on a hot day. I then searched for the rules on bottle deposit returns in CT and learned that, indeed, a retailer is only obligated to accept brands that they sell. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the decision easy. I also appreciate that they carry products you don't always find at smaller liquor stores. While I enjoy shopping here, I do prefer the Milford location when it comes to the craft beer singles selections. A big downside was at checkout. I had just gotten a new phone and hadn't finished setting up my Apple Wallet, so paying took a little longer than expected. Unfortunately, the cashier didn't seem very patient, which made the interaction feel a bit rushed and weird. Next time I'm in the area I'll just hold off and stop by the one in Milford which is on the way home for me anyway.

Red wine is basically the only alcohol I consume nowadays, pinot noir specifically. So I nabbed two bottles after spending a decent amount of time looking over the extensive stock they carried of pinot noir. A long wait at the register to pay for my purchases though, only one cashier was open this morning. But I'll be enjoying some wine later tonight, so Life is good !

Crazy Bruce's was near and prices dear. We suited up in mask and used our hands as blinders so not to be over tempted. Kahlúa was our only target. At least, that was the front I exhibited. Inside, I hoped to find a new replenishment of Scotch Whiskey or a new Craft Ale. We browsed slightly, prices tempting, but we (she) stayed firm on our objective. Of course, it's almost on the back corner and rows of wine and every hard liquor and beer imaginable. We grabbed our beloved Kahlúa only (with a tear welling up). Another day, "Bruce the Crazy," we will be back to fully replenish.
