This is a brewery in the middle of an industrial park with HORRIBLE ROADS. PLEASE REPAVE THEM. The beer is great though and very affordable! I ended up getting a coffee beer and it was smooth! This was during the time the Yankees were still in the running to potentially head to the World Series, so we sat right by the tvs and they even put on the yankees game for us, even though they weren't a fan! Went here with a group for a social event. Love that one side of the building is a brewery and the other side is a coffee place. Cool combo! I only went to the brewery and it was fun, chill, casual, and had great beer! The Grif was great! Delicious, refreshing and definitely my favorite. (I visited on 02/21/25). I came to support a friend who was involved with a charity event here. First, props to the brewery for allowing the event to take place. The staff was pleasant as always, and the beer on-dratt was solid ("Crispy Roll" is one of my favorite lagers). It was a dog shelter event, so the atmosphere was lively and fun-filled, but quiet enough to have a good conversation as well. Unfortunately, there was one pretty big negative. I purchased a 4-pack of Vic Viper (a double IPA) to-go, but when I got home I noticed a "canned on" date of 11/22/24 (3 months old!). When purchasing directly from the source, a fresh product is expected, and this lack of quality control is inexcusable. Hopefully they fix this situation in the future. read more

We visited this brewery on a trip to CT as my sister is going to be moving into the area soon. It's a cute, casual place that is tucked away, and they have an adjacent coffee shop as well that closes earlier in the day. They have an indoor and substantial outdoor spaces for seating, quite a long list of beer and cider options as well as some zero proof/non-alcoholic which is a great addition. I've been coming to Alvarium for years now and can honestly say each year they just get better and better! I absolutely love their seasonal beers. My faves include their clusternutter (peanut butter stout) and their ecto cooler (juice box sour). All their beers whether you're into IPAs, ales, etc are delicious and affordable. Staff is always so friendly and welcoming too! The venue itself just gets better and better as well. They have a patio in the back with food trucks, a b side location for parties/ extra seating, tap room (which has a ton of seating and couches), and outdoor seating in the front. Great spot and even better beer. Dog friendly, indoor and outdoor. They have a real big indoor area and 5ish tables outside. Beers have some weed themed names, which I found amusing. I tried and liked 3-4 IPA's and would recommend them all. I liked Glued, supa phresh and Platinum OG in that order. My wife drank Regal Lager and liked that too. Where have I been ? Why have I not been here until yesterday( Saturday afternoon) ?! Sounds crazy being a New Britain resident and I finally went to check Out Alvarium. I have to say I really liked it. They had the lobster food truck outside with a tent next to It so you can sit and eat. Through out the week they will have food trucks scheduled to be there.. Many choices of beer, they have non alcoholic, some wine and cider which is what I had . I had a Blueberry Ginger Cider in which I really enjoyed! The front of Alvarium had also tables outside and the inside. Many places to sit. Love that is dog friendly and I enjoyed seeing all the well behaved pups there. Very cute! Terrific local brewery! Made us wish we lived here so we could come more often. Definitely try all of the recommendations from staff and if you can, split multiple flights with friends so you can try them all. Food trucks are on site (necessary) and it's very dog-friendly. I've been to Alvarium many times. It's such a fun brewery. The bartenders are so personable and a pleasure to interact with. They're always ready to make beer recommendations. The honeycomb pattern is prominent across the whole space, including the ceiling. I got Sugar Plums as my beer for the evening, because the description said there was glitter in it! I think this might be limited edition for the holidays, because I no longer see it on their website. Ohhh it tastes like it looks and sounds, it is a plumy sour! Sadly I didn't notice any glitter in my glass, I could blame the lights.. and I took some time to inspect it for said glitter.. to be fair I was having trouble with my eyes on this particular night. Sometime recently, I realized I was giving too many 5 Star Yelp Reviews to Ice Cream Shops. I modified my approach and . . . problem solved. I now have 5 Star Reviews, 4 Star Reviews and even a 3 Star review. I haven't figured out what to do with craft breweries yet. So, Alvarium - 5 Stars. Especially, on a day I scored two four packs of the elusive Rocket Pop (FKA Bomb Pop) and had a flight of Alvarium's best, including Phresh, Platinum OG (both New England IPAs), Crunchy Roll (Japanese Rice Lager), and Lime Crumble (a pastry style sour) with my family in a cool setting. Happy almost Halloween to all! Wow! Last night was such a great time at the Ecto Cooler Halloween party! I have been dying to try the Ecto Cooler and not only did I get to try that, but I also had their Pink Slime beer slushie as well. Ecto Cooler is a luminous green fruited sour that uses orange and tangerine purees to mimic the classic juicebox from back in the day. #iykyk The Ecto Jeep set up by @djaemelee was so awesome! I'm not a big drinker, but definitely fell in love with Alvarium's sours last night -- especially their Scorpion Bowl! This was my first time to Alvarium and I really liked their venue. I wish it was a little more spacious, but I enjoy their vibe regardless. Their staff was super friendly and attentive despite the big crowd that was there for our private event. I am a huge fan of Alvarium. First and foremost, they brew some fantastic beers. Everything from the light side, through IPA's, sours, porters, and more. There will be *something* that suits your fancy. I generally try it all but the darks and IPAs is where I live and theirs are absolutely great. Their brewery is very fun and has a great atmosphere. The people are pretty cool to talk to and hang out with (everyone is happy at a brewery no?) and so you could go alone and make friends fairly easily. Of course during the pandemic some of that is on hold due to distancing etc. Overall, if you're looking for a place that has great brews, food trucks, snacks, entertaining games, fun atmosphere, and folks to socialize with, then look no further. read more

Well, it turns out that Alvarium is just a fancy word for a beehive. Bees and beehives have established ties to New Britain, since the local baseball stadium is Beehive Field and their minor league baseball team is the New Britain Bees. So I totally get why this New Britain brewery chose the name "Alvarium" for its brand name. Alvarium Beer is located in an industrial park on John Downey Drive. They have a good-sized dog friendly taproom with an L-shaped bar, cool honeycomb lighting, a pinball machine, a foosball game, board games and Jenga, some tables and chairs by the front entrance, and a nice outdoor seating area off the back entrance. This is where the food trucks park, and Bears BBQ was there yesterday. They also have a cornhole set up outside. They offered nine beers yesterday - a Porter, a Gose, a Pils, a Lager, a Heferweizen, an IPA, a NEIPA, a Stout, and a Brown Ale. I loved that they represented so many beer styles and didn't load up on a single type. Alvarium also offered a fruit cider for the non-beer drinkers in your party, and if you don't want a food truck item, they also sell great looking kielbasa sandwiches and big soft pretzels. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed a Summer Fling Strawberry Rhubarb Gose (3.8% ABV 4 IBU) and a terrific Clusternutter Salted Peanut Butter Cup Porter (6.9% ABV 31 IBU). The Bears food truck was right there and since we didn't want a lot, we split one of their great cornbread squares for just a few bucks. Alvarium is fun and upbeat and they have incredible beer. There is always a food truck out back and they're dog friendly which is awesome. They have bar snacks for sale and allow you to bring your own outside food. The only thing they don't allow is outside drinks, besides water (at least that's what they said when I sent them a message before visiting, but I don't think it's highly enforced). When we were here, someone next to us was celebrating a birthday and they had tons of food and a huge cake. So, it's definitely low key and easy going. They also sell soda and they have other drinks besides beer. But this is a brewery, and they do beer right. I've sampled plenty of beer from here and it was all amazing. My favorite, as usual, are the IPA's. But I am also a lover of stouts and I had my favorite stout ever here. I believe it was called Clusternutter and it was salted peanut butter cup. It was incredible. I love how you can get a full pint or a small 5oz sample. You can also do flights of 4 or 5. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of games to play. Some of the BEST beers and sours you've ever had (cough cough the coveted BOMB POP cough)! And did I mentioned they are dog friendly? Like ULTIMATE dog friendly inside and out with a mascot & everything (RIP Griff). They've done a great job with COVID during this time and have the best food trucks drop by. Here are a few of my favorites and recommendations: The Hoff is an Imperial Coconut Black Forest Cake Porter. The Scorpion Bowl is a Cocktail-Style Sour which is fruited with pineapple, orange, lime, sweet cherry and molasses. The supa' phresh is a NEDIPA it is their flagship NEIPA which is double dry hopped with Citra & Mosaic. I've known Brian for years now, but never made it over to Alvarium for a visit (sorry Bug, I'm seriously one of the worst friends ever). I'm so glad I want for a visit! Brian selected Alvarium beers for our flights according to my boyfriend's and my personal tastes, and every one of them was amazing! I like mixed drinks and wine, so the ones he selected for me suited my palate perfectly! I particularly liked the final 3 on my flight- Rocket Pop, the Key Lime, and Bee Fierce. The bar area was super trendy worn with lighting and decor- there was also a Griffin wall with images of his late pup Griffin. (There we're a lot of dogs - well behaved pups were welcome according to signage!!!) Alvarium = Latin for beehive City of New Britain motto = Industry fills the hive and enjoys the honey We finally got around to visiting this nearby craft brewery on Thursday night and the place was hoping, pun intended. There is a large parking lot in the rear and on entering we found several tables reserved for a local rotary club get together along with a few others occupied by smaller parties. After consulting with the bartender, we ordered glasses of phresh, a New England IPA and CT Krafwerk, a Bavarian Hefeweizen. Both were refreshing and worthy of reordering though we did not in fact reorder either. Instead we tried the crunch roll, a Japanese rice lager, and cremo ale, a traditional ale. The latter being the only one I would not consider ordering again. If beer does not make you a jolly good fellow than you, not I because like Tom T. Hall I like beer, may order local favorite Avery soda by the bottle or Black Box wines by the glass. The only food served is Bugnacki kielbasa sandwiches, pretzels and a few snacks. BYOF (bring your own food) is not a problem, but another viable option is the food truck that is frequently parked outside, refer to the brewery's Facebook page for the schedule. In fact this evening's food truck, Baba Ghanoush, proved to be the catalyst for our much delayed visit with us ordering lamb gyros. Our sole disappointment this evening was Griff, the brewery's mascot, had apparently taken the night off though we did enjoy meeting and greeting a pair of his fury friends. read more

Go early if you can if you want to sit outside. Even on a Friday at about 4pm, it was busy inside. The clusternutter is a must try for stout, pb or chocolate lovers. It sells out in minutes when then release it in cans but we could get it on tap at the brewery. We also recommend the Aloha Punch which was a Hawaiian Punch style sour.
