Pandemic stock GONE! Even Mama Bear was getting temperamental not having a stock of Kahlúa, as well as, other pleasantries for beverages once kept for visitors or FRYday night caps. Crazy Bruce's was near and prices dear. We suited up in mask and used our hands as blinders so not to be over tempted. Kahlúa was our only target. At least, that was the front I exhibited. Inside, I hoped to find a new replenishment of Scotch Whiskey or a new Craft Ale. We browsed slightly, prices tempting, but we (she) stayed firm on our objective. Of course, it's almost on the back corner and rows of wine and every hard liquor and beer imaginable. We grabbed our beloved Kahlúa only (with a tear welling up). Good option when you need to pick something on the way out, but not worth going out of your way. Selection was OK, but not great. Seems to focus heavily on low and mid-range for everything. Some good craft beer options, but not as many as you'd expect for such a big place, wine selection was OK, scotch selection was just OK, and pricing on the scotch seemed good on some, but misleading on a few. Much of the beer is on display outside the cooler, but the cooler has a tiny sign on it that says you're welcome to walk in and find some that aren't readily visible in the doors. read more

I'm a fan! It's a huge store with a great selection and competitive prices. I suppose the service could be better, employees could be friendlier but then again I also hate being followed around and people being too eager like I must need help, some days I'm just not really sure what I'm looking for so in browsing and figuring it out. When I was moving almost two years ago they were great and did let me go back several times for boxes, even though they do try to limit the number you can take at a time, especially if it's getting closer to a delivery day and they are running low. They have great gift boxes/sets around holidays for every kind of drink and have lots of sales and mail-in rebates that you don't have to search for like some other places. I'll continue to stop by when I'm in the area. Maybe some day I'll even order food to go next door while I'm picking out my drinks here! read more

Just wanted to give a shoutout to Crazy Bruce's Liquors in Elmwood for their excellent customer service today! I came in to their store with my 87 year old father who uses a walker to get around. He was buying a bottle of wine for his friend's 80th birthday party and we needed to have it wrapped up nice and fancy! As one of their employees noticed us getting into the wrong aisle (the register was closed), he hopped over and immediately opened the cash register with a smile. He put my dad's wine in a fancy silver bag and tied a bow and wished us a nice day! He didn't have to come over and open a closed register, he didn't have to go the extra mile, but he did, and every single person in that store was so lovely to us! This is the cheapest liquor store in the area with the greatest variety. As soon as you walk in there's shopping carts filled with $4 bottles of wine... granted it's not always the best quality wines, but $4 is $4. There's always fantastic deals on liquor and the employees are always incredibly friendly. They house brands that no one else in the area has. read more

Though this doesn't affect my opinion of the business, I must mention - That caricature of Crazy Bruce that dominates their illuminated signage is just flat out creepy. Don't stare at it too long; it'll give you nightmares. I guess this is the marketing plan for liquor stores that want to attract alcoholics; hard to blame them, they're 80% of the alcohol market. Anyway, I'd put this place in the middle of the road - a decent selection, good very good prices, and a warehouse-like shopping environment, though I wouldn't call it an enormous store. if you like cheap wine, they definitely have a lot of sales on items they're trying to clear out. But in this part of the world, it's hard to beat out CT Bev Mart and Manchester Discount Liquors. After driving all over creation searching for Brazilian liquor, this place had it!! We were looking around aimlessly and there were a few employees rolling beer past us but never asked if we needed help. I finally asked one of the guys to help me and of course, what I was looking for was right in front of my face. When we were checking out, the employees could care less we were there, maybe because it was a holiday weekend. I'm giving this place three stars for its selection of wine, beer and liquor but I wish the employees were a little more customer friendly. read more

Great prices, great variety. You can find pretty much anything you need here, even some harder to find craft and local beers. My favorite thing is that they always have a super cheap wine section up from and a super cheap beer section in the back! It may not be the high end wines (it's bottles like Gato NEgro), but it's nice if you want to stock up for a party. The cheaper beers can actually be quite good and are usually just the "out of season" overstocks. I've gotten a 12 case of cans of Cisco Nantuckets for $3.99! Another plus is that it's right next to a stop and shop so you can get all you food/beverage needed met with one stop. read more

This liquor store is huge! Probably one of the biggest liquor stores in the area. They have a huge variety and I can typically find things that I wouldn't be able to find at other stores in the area. Additionally, the prices are also great. I'm only giving it three stars because of the service. It's always hit or miss. There's another store in the area that provides a much better service, though with less variety. I will still go back to this store if I'm looking for a specialty item because I know I will likely be able to find it here! read more

I really like this liquor store. They have a good selection of most popular beers and craft brews. I love how the beer isles are set up with 6 packs and singles on the side to encourage you to mix and match. They also have a pretty good wine selection and have good deals on some more popular brands. Ive found more brands of sake here then in most places. The .99 cent nips are also a plus. read more

Crazy Bruce's is a pretty big liquor store. They have everything you can think of and, the reason that I like it, is that you can buy beer either by the case, by a 6 pack, or individually. So, if you are looking to try something a little bit wild, you don't have to be concerned that you're going to be stuck with a whole bunch of something that may not be so good. Also, I think that there prices are pretty reasonable here, as opposed to doing your shopping at the grocery store. My only complaint is that the person helping me checkout was a meanie! She seemed more concerned about lining up her lunch break rather than waiting on me as a customer. Is it too much to ask for a "hello" or "thank you" or smile when I am at the checkout counter? Unfortunately today I had a very horrible experience at this establishment. I came in to purchase 2 packs of 12oz can beers that I can't find at my local liquor store. After grabbing a cart i proceeded to get my 2 twelve packs but noticed an empty bottle of some wine cooler in the cart. I grabbed the empty glass bottle and went to put it on top of the cases of beer at that moment an employee by the name of Don accused me of drinking the wine cooler and trying to conceal it. I explained to him that I definitely did not go out of my way to drink a wine cooler. I also, told him to replay his video camera's. But again unfortunately for me the angle of the cameras do not point to the shopping cart entrance I left out of this store still being accused of stealing. They did Not apologize. I also witnessed a person come into this liquor store very wasted on alcohol. They didn't even noticed. Sold him a large liquor bottle of vodka and i saw him drive away in his red suburban. They really should reconsider who they should waste their attention to. Me I am an honest hard working man. The other person is driving drunk and can possibly kill your loved one. I would have given them a zero but their is no option for 0. They should never accused someone without proof and 1st looking at their video cameras. read more

No phone call so I went in on may 3rd to pick it up and was "oh we can't get a keg of corona until may 9th" so needless to say I didn't have Mexican beer on tap for my cinco de mayo party that was attended by 60 people. I've had a long relationship with this store, as it is in my neighborhood. Generally i've been very pleased with their selection, prices, and service. My most recent experience, however, has left much to be desired. I went in to buy 3 bottles of white wine for a happy hour event at work this evening - somewhat in a rush as I was bordering on being late for said work. The person at the counter bagged them - or so I thought - as I wrestled with getting the chip card reader to work so I could pay the establishment and be on my way. With the payment finally processed I took my bagged purchase, which I thought contained 3 bottles of chardonnay, exited the store, and placed them in the trunk of my car. Arriving at work, imagine my surprise when I discovered only 2 bottles in the bag, plus one of those narrow paper bags used to individually wrap bottles, sans any bottle within. I called the store and explained my predicament, asking the person who answered (who was not the same person who attended to my purchase - really, I go to this place often enough to recognize the folks who work there by their voices) if a bottle of chardonnay had been discovered at a register. It had not. I was told to check my car for a loose bottle rolling around in it. As sensible as this suggestion was, I had already thought of it and done just that - to no avail. So, to the best of my deductive powers, it seems that what happened was this: a bottle that a customer (me) had purchased did not get bagged (a forgivable mistake), and then was put back in stock by someone, with no thought as to why it might be sitting there at the register unaccounted for (much less forgivable). And I'm out a bottle of wine for this evening. It's a good thing we drink the cheap stuff... Not saying that I will never shop there again, but a word to the wise - don't be distracted by the oft-malfunctioning card reader at Crazy Bruce's, and keep an eye on your purchases until they are, literally, in the bag, folks! read more

When reading the older reviews, be aware that they built out a new large strip mall and Crazy Bruce's moved in there. So place is in a very modern strip mall now and presumeably cleaner than before. Review from a craft beer focused guy: Selection here is on the better end of things with lots of harder to find options, but not my go-to (see my other reviews for those spots). Very clean inside and I've found the staff to be pleasant (usually not chatting up anyone except at the register though). Tip: I always make it a point to stop by Crazy Bruce's for one reason. Crazy Bruce sometimes has some misses during his ordering, and you can find Crazy Bruce clearancing overstocked craft beer at 1/2 off (check near the coolers). I've picked up / stocked up on many fine brews that were heading out of season or wouldn't be selling otherwise. If you're trying to maintain a craft beer lifestyle on a macro budget, this point alone is worth your trip. read more

Well, I cone from PA where all of the liqueur is Controlled by the state so here at crazy bruces the prices were amazing! The boyfriend really likes beer and he thought that the selection was just okay. Mostly because he likes the rarer Belgian beers and this place was in short supply. I've been going here forever and they have all the staples for a good bar stocking. While I usually buy beer and booze, they do have an extensive wine selection too. The beers are not the most extensive choices in town, but they have all the staples and a few interesting closeouts. What sets them apart is their service. I can never recall a time where any of the employees didn't offer assistance with selecting something. they always willing to offer help when needed and even the beer deposit guys seem happy you're there. read more

I like Crazy Bruce's, I do. They've always had a great selection and I feel that their pricing is good and competitive. It's not amazing, but it's on par with Total Wine, who I think goes above and beyond to make sure they are offering the lowest price) I was in Crazy Bruce's on Friday night to pick up several bottles of wine I was picking up for a holiday party that night. While nobody approached me to offer to help, I pretty much knew what I was looking for so didn't really need assistance. What was off-putting was the checkout process. The older woman who checked me out was really nasty and for no reason. While I am sure the holidays are super busy for them, at the time I was there (around 6pm), the store and checkout was not crowded at all. She was rude, nasty and short and I couldn't understand the treatment. I asked for little foil bags for three bottles of wine and she was so put off--picture exaggerated sighing, huffing and puffing, etc. I know I wasn't a huge order, but I was still buying several bottles of wine and yes, some of them were gifts. I am sure they are accustomed to that on a regular basis. With so many awesome wine store choices around (The Wise Old Dog is my current favorite), the nasty attitude was really unnecessary. I was nothing but pleasant and left wondering if I'd ever give them my business again. Like I said, there's so many awesome wine stores in town (WOD, Harvest, Total Wines, Wine Cellars 4, etc) I don't really feel like I need to be given attitude during the checkout process. CT has minimum prices and the Bruce is there, so it's about as good a deal as you can get. It's pretty large, so there is an excellent selection. There are deals to be had! They have budget wines in carts as you walk in, so if you want to take a chance, you can walk out with an inexpensive bottle. In the back by the coolers, you have a craft beer overstock section, usually stuff that is going out of season where you can get a six pack for 3-6 bucks. I've tried stuff that I normally would never buy and I have to say, I've found some really great beers. They aren't all weird never heard of brands either- got Saranac Pumpkin quarts for 99 cents each- they were awesome, not too pumpkiny and not too bitter either. You always have a shot of finding something interesting there. They also have organic wines, which are hard to come by and my wife is sensitive to sulfites so they are the only kinds that we can get. They have two locations, one is also in Bristol. read more

Crazy's is a local landmark, with a decent selection of wines, solid selection of beers, great prices and, wonder of wonders, they accept return bottles. In that new place on Park Rd. they looked at me like I was from another planet when I asked where the returned bottles go. Yes, folks, we buy them full but we do bring them home and empty them. Isn't that why there's a deposit -- so we'll want to bring them back? I give Crazy B's high marks for their environmentally sound practice of making bottle returns very easy.
