They have a gigantic oil drilling rig in the middle of the park... It was surreal to see how this old school mechanism worked w/ the plethora of pullies made from wood and rubber. Access/Roads: A Paved. Parking: B Plenty on dirt. Distance: C Appx 120 miles north of DTLA. Appx 40 miles southwest of bakersfield. Costs: A Free Nearby Attractions: Jack dilly squat. hmm. there's some dirt everywhere. Conclusion: A This is one of my favorite museums between LA and SF. It's a must for anyone who cares about these things. No one cares for Taft or the nearby region, and there is no reason too except to visit this museum or visit the nearby prison. Safe travelings. It blows your mind and tells you a story in the process. Thanks to our incredible 93-year-old volunteer docent Pauleen and museum staff Agnes and Esther, our minds were officially blown. WKOM provides incredible docents and volunteers who are locals and know the history of the area intimately . What an experience to hear about growing up in a tent house next to an oil rig, dealing with gushers that spewed oil for miles, the positive impact of the oil industry on the area! We came here expecting to spend about an hour, max, but thanks to the incredible volunteers, spent over three hours touring the museum and visiting the gift shop. Now, before people start to message me because they are totally pissed off because "Oil kills" etc., let me tell you that I agree. I recycle. I try to economize on my trips to save gas. I believe in preserving the environment. But history rocks, too.. And when you are presented with a museum of this caliber, created and maintained totally and 100% by volunteers, it is a reminder that the power of community is also something worth preserving. This place offers spectacular views of the valley and beyond. There is some campsites and most of them have tree shade, the one with the nice views of the valley offers no shade, our site had shade and it looked like it was just rake cleaned. The best part was that even thought is close to the road, barely any cars went by, so no noise at all Also there was this black flies looking insect maybe gnats, all around us, not a big deal they behave and we keep our food well protected. All sites have a picnic table but not all have a fire pit. We have an annual interagency pass and it works here. * picnic table and fire pit * no potable water, bring all you will need * pit toilets Enjoy!

My 10 year old came home from camp crying…read more She cried off and on for a few days. She was crying because she didn't want to leave. She was changed. She was empowered. She fell in love with the space, the people and the way of life. She now wants wooden bunk beds in her room... "like the ones at camp". She wants to call helping get ready for dinner OTRS. She is talking about food waste after our meals. She is singing all the camp songs. She is telling us all the stories. She wanted to stay there and "get ready in the morning with other girls and talk about their day, have fun choices of how she wanted to spend her afternoon, be brave and try new things, make friends, and learn about God." She grew up this week...she knows it and we know it. I am grateful for sacred spaces, like El Camino Pines, that provide space and community for us to get away, grow up and be changed. My 10 year old came home crying from camp. The same way I did when I was her age. After I went to camp, I was never the same again.

The claims adjuster had set up an appointment to meet me and then canceled the appointment both without my consent and there was a lot of confusion on my part. I decided to call Sikhness to get some direction and clarity. Right from the get go without fully listening to me and understanding my situation he told me to be patient, I was reaching him a 1.5 days after I had not heard back from the Claims adjuster. Overall, when I pointed out how the unresponsiveness on the part of claim adjust, setting up an appointment and canceling my appointment without my consent is poor customer service, he got provoked and said I can take my business else where. Once things get serious and you ask this guy for help and state how you been treated post a serious accident is not fair he will get upset with you and tell you to stop being impatient and take your business else where. He will provoke and further frustrate the situation without providing solution. Take your business to a person who will treat you with respect and care in and post critical situation and can listen to your needs without jumping to conclusion, you deserve better!
