He kept the door to the room open and stood in the door way the entire time (only feet away from office staff) while discussing medical issues/symptoms (what happened to HIPPA?) What happened to patient privacy? It was strange behavior. The location seemed clean, they weren't crowded and it didn't take long to be seen. Perhaps some doctors here are better than others but I was literally wondering if this guy was a real MD....

James Island Emergency was the closest facility to where we were staying, and we had thorough and intentional care throughout our visit. There was no one in the waiting area when we arrived, so we were seen right away. Their check-in process is done through an iPad in your room - making it easy to complete in-between discussions with the care team and any treatment you may need. If possible, I do recommend checking with your insurance company that this location is in-network. Otherwise, your visit could end up being pretty pricey. We spent around two hours here, and although it wasn't how we thought our first day of vacation would go, we're grateful to the James Island Emergency team for being ready and available to provide meticulous care when I needed it most.

Also meeting Becca, who is the representative for the company that made and maintains my back implant. She looked just like she sounded on the phone - beautiful and helpful as helpful could possibly be. I am a blessed man. OPEN LETTER RE COST OF FOOT XRAY RSFH…read more I wanted to warn everyone about an experience that I recently had at the Roper St Francis Healthcare system. After seeing a local doctor, I went to get an x-ray of my right foot. I had a written order in hand when I got to the St Francis branch in west ashley. After checking in, I was told to sit down. After some time, before the X-ray was done, I was called to see another lady who wanted more information. This was to determine whether I would be authorized to get an x-ray. I was told by this young lady that my co-pay for a simple x-ray of the right foot would be more than $118. I have a comprehensive Medicare Advantage plan that has minimal co-pays. When I questioned the amount of the charge, I was told that the full charge for a simple x-ray of the right foot would be $769, with my portion being more than $118. ........... I found this astounding! When I asked why this was so much, I was told that there was an extra hospital fee added to the Xray charge. This was despite me simply walking in from the parking lot and not using any other Hospital service. I was flabbergasted.....I asked the lady to double-check to make sure that was correct and she called one of the supervisors who confirmed the amount of the charge. Because I had been able to ambulate for a few days despite a likely broken bone in my foot , I declined the X-ray because I thought the charge was extortionate. I was fortunate in being able to seek an x-ray somewhere else, but I expect that the hospital applies this same process to everyone, many of whom are unable to decline. The next day, I called two different locations, and was quoted a cash price without insurance, ranging from $75 to $99. This was the total cost including the Radiologists charge. I understand that our medical system is now run by business and insurance people with the help of the government. The clinical people that work in the Hospitals and Clinics have little to no say so. When I think of our Medical system in the United States, the words shameful and obscene come to mind.

I had a very concerning experience at East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant involving a…read morenurse who identified herself as Wendy. My cousin, a Puerto Rican American, came to the ER with severe abdominal/side/back pain and was visibly crying and in significant distress. She called me earlier that evening crying and asking for help. When I arrived at approximately 11:00 PM, I personally observed that she was still in severe pain and distress. What concerns me most is that it was not until after I arrived, spoke with the nursing staff, and requested that another nurse assist my cousin that she received medication from a different nurse. After that nurse, Nicki, administered the medication, I personally watched my cousin finally begin to get relief. She was able to sit up, talk to me, and most importantly, she was no longer crying and visibly suffering from the severe pain she had been experiencing. That made the earlier lack of relief especially concerning to me. I had also requested that Wendy no longer care for my cousin because my cousin had become uncomfortable with the way she was being treated. Despite that request, Wendy returned to the room. My cousin was asking reasonable questions about how long she would have to wait for her ultrasound. She was already extremely anxious and began visibly shaking. Instead of helping calm the situation, Wendy told her to "stop acting like a child and start acting like an adult." I found that completely inappropriate toward a patient who was already experiencing severe pain and distress. I was also concerned that medication was brought into the room without a clear explanation of what it was before my cousin took it. I believe patients should be clearly informed about medications they are being given. Eventually, another nurse came into the room and treated my cousin with kindness and professionalism. That nurse even apologized for what had happened earlier. The contrast between the two interactions was significant. To be clear, my concern is not simply that the ER could not immediately determine the cause of my cousin's pain. We understand that emergency medicine involves testing and uncertainty. My concern is how my cousin was treated while she was seeking care and particularly the fact that she remained in severe distress until after I intervened and another nurse provided medication, after which I personally witnessed a significant improvement in her condition. We are still waiting to submit a formal complaint to ask the hospital to review the entire encounter, including the medication administration record, nursing documentation, and staff conduct. If you visit this ER, advocate for yourself, ask questions about medications before taking them, and bring someone you trust with you if possible. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect when they are at their most vulnerable.
