Dishonest and fraudulent. I went in for an oil change, and they tried to upsell me with services I did not need. They stated that I needed to change my rack and pinion, along with outer tie rods (this one I was aware of and was going to change it that weekend). They quoted me for $2200!! I went to 4 other places, not only were they about $800-$1000 cheaper, all 4 mechanic shops unanimously stated that I do NOT need to change the rack and pinion as it is perfectly fine. The person I dealt with was Dave. I've never encountered a situation such as this one, and I didnt know where I could report this to, so I turned to yelp :). I would recommend that anyone to always get a second opinion, no matter what! Unless you trust your mechanic, call around to see who's charging what and what work actually needs to be performed. By the way, I ended up spending only $300, not $2200 (if i wanted to change the rack and pinion, it would have been $1200 at another place! That's a $1000 difference!), because I went to another garage in the NE and they said the only thing that needs changing is the outer tie rods for the front wheels - now that's honesty. As for Centre Street Auto Service, I DO NOT recommend this place. Overpriced, dishonest and fraudulent. In all seriousness, they should get investigated. :( read more

I have been a customer of this station for 35 years so one can conclude that I am happy with their service. They do not do unnecessary work especially on marginal issues that are just cosmetic of do not impact safety or mechanical operation of your vehicle. They are part of the AutoSelect franchise which gives them some purchase advantage over a lone repair shop. I prefer CSAS because you can usually get an appointment in the same week sometimes within two days whereas at most dealerships you are lucky to get an appointment within the following week. Knowing the owner and the call person is an advantage. Also the rates are within industry guidelines not low but not high. At dealerships they have a schedule of maintenance they seem to follow religiously within regard for whether or not the repair is needed or not. An oil change is less than $100 if nothing else is done. read more

I stopped bringing my car here a few years ago because I found them to be highly overpriced. Sadly, that has not changed. I had a flat tire, and because it's close to my office, and it was very cold, and urgent. It turned out to be a simple puncture, for which they charged me $48.00!! Most places would charge less than 20, but I guess they charge extra for convenience of location. Emergency or not, I won't ever be going back. read more

Consistent and reliable, somewhat overpriced service but we pay for the location convenience and that the owners get to know you. We have been taking our cars here for years for basic maintenance, tire swaps, etc, one is a beater the other is a new car. Any problems they would solve. read more

Dishonest! We brought our Toyota SUV in to have the the winter tires changed for summer. Just after dropping it off my husband got a call saying that the regular seasonal tires needed to be replaced - that they were worn and unsafe. This seemed odd since when we had the winter tires put on the other tire service company said the tire were fine. My husband chose to take the vehicle to Toyota to get them to check the tires - they said they still had a couple seasons in them especially if we use winter tires. Pretty sad since we have used this place in the past because it is in our community and like to support community businesses - not very neighbourly of them. Since then we have heard several similar stories from other community residents in Crescent Heights. read more

DISHONEST AND INCOMPETENT! I brought my vehicle (2001 BMW X5) to Centre Street Auto Service (1005 Centre Street NW, Calgary) for an oil change. I also requested for an air filter change. I paid the invoiced amount in full when I picked up the vehicle. The next morning, I noticed a yellow warning light for the engine appeared on the dash. I opened the hood and realized leakage from the engine oil drain. I checked the air and oil filters. The old air filter wasn't replaced. I showed the vehicle to the manager of the garage. He, together with the mechanic, confirmed that the filter was changed. They even showed me a dirty old air filter, saying that was my old filter. I told them that wasn't my air filter. They tried to deny it until they saw the old filter in the vehicle. The manager said that was an honest mistake. The mechanic was busy dealing with several vehicles yesterday. I can't accept that excuse. Then they looked at the oil leakage. The mechanic tightened the drain screw with a wrench. The drain screw is designed for light tightening with Allen key, not for wrench. I was worrying over tightening that screw can cause more damage. A few minutes later, the vehicle was lowered from the hoist. The manager told me that the problem was fixed. I doubted it. I asked them to raise the vehicle again to show me the drain sealed. Once again the oil was still leaking. Then they said that the seal needed replacement. I needed to leave the vehicle there waiting for the delivery of the new air filter. I picked up the vehicle by the end of the day. The manager ensured me that the drain was properly sealed and the new filter was in place. I didn't check the vehicle until the next morning. Once again, the oil was leaking. Not only I was disappointed with their work, I have no confidence to bring the vehicle back to them, worrying that they can cause further damage. I took the vehicle to a friend who took a photo of the oil pan. There showed a tiny crack on the oil pan at the drain. I wish there is something I can do to warn other people from going to this garage as they are dishonest and I felt cheated. read more

When I first started going to Centre Street Auto Service my bill was very high each time. I chalked it up to my car being older and I had never had to have any major work done on it before. Each time (spring and fall) my bill was over $1,000.00 for some major work. I dropped it off again this week for my spring tune up and was informed my struts needed replacing. I asked how much it would cost. He said $1,200.00. I said no, my car is getting too old to spend that kind of money. He then said $1,100.00 and I said no. He then said $1,000.00 and I said no. That's when I realized I've been gouged. I have since called other shops and compared previous bills to see the difference in what I was charged at Centre Street Auto and what they would charge.
