    Stazione Termini - Uber stand

Roma Termini is the central train station, metro station and bus terminal in Rome, located on the…read moreeastern side of the historic central area. From the Latin word for baths "thermae", the name for the station "termini" derives its name from the nearby Baths of Diocletian, its ruins open as a museum opposite the street from the station's main entrance. Piazza dei Cinquecento is the large plaza in front of the station's, containing a parking lot and bus stands, a tourist info booth. There is an extended length of ruins of an early 4th century BC Roman Servian Wall (a defensive wall encircling the earliest city boundaries) preserved just outside the station. It's viewable directly adjacent on the north edge of the street leaving the station. The design of station with floor-to-ceiling glass panels with a wave pattern allows commuters inside to admire the ruins from inside. Within the station, 29 train platforms mean plenty of train service, making Rome reachable from most major cities in Italy, and cities across Europe. The entrance hall is filled with restaurants, shops, a couple train lounges and a food court upstairs, car rental offices, post office, railway ticket office, and a tourist info desk. In the basement level has more shops including a grocery store, luggage holding service, and bathrooms. To access the platforms, you need to scan your ticket thru the turnstiles or scanned by the security attendants. The departure/arrivals locations and times are listed on the signs at the head of each platform. I purchased my tickets online in advance so only interaction was scanning my ticket which was quick and easy. The inside of station was clean though would say some of the signs to the platforms are a little confusing. You can find departures and arrivals information at: https://www.romatermini.com

It is seriously deceiving just how massive Stazione Termini is until you are actually inside…read morewalking it. It feels less like a standard train station and more like a mega-mall that happens to have tracks attached. The selection of stores, cafes, and markets here is fantastic--you can easily kill an hour shopping or grabbing a great bite to eat while waiting for a departure. Just a heads-up: give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your train. The platforms here are incredibly long, and if your train is assigned to one of the regional tracks or a high-speed engine waiting far down the line, it can be a massive, unexpected walk to get to your carriage. Keep your eyes on the departure boards and don't linger at the shops too long.

Leonardo Express - Train to the airport

The non-stop train service connects Rome's Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to the city's central train…read morestation, Roma Termini. The trip takes approx 32 minutes and there is one every 15 minutes. It's €14 per person, which we purchased online. There is a mini-groups discounted fare- 4 tickets in a single transaction for €40. There was 3 of us (€42), so it was kind of annoying we couldn't do the discounted fare.

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, our family of four (myself, my partner, and our two children aged 5…read moreand 4) arrived at Termini from Napoli. We headed to the Leonardo Express platform to catch the Leonardo Express to Fiumicino Airport. The next train was leaving a couple of minutes later. We tried to tap our credit cards on the automatic machines on the platform but they were not working. We asked a Trenitalia employee and a controller, who were talking to each other at the entrance of the train, if it was ok to pay on board, and they said yes, so we decided to board the train immediately. After we found seats on the train, I pulled out my cell phone and purchased tickets online. I saw that we needed to purchase only two tickets since each adult could be accompanied by one child (please see attached copy of the tickets). Just before arriving to Fiumicino Airport, the same controller we had seen when we boarded the train asked for our tickets. I showed her the tickets on my phone and she said "I do not see tickets here". At first I did not understand what she was saying, so I asked her to repeat and explain what the problem was. That is when I realized that, in the rush, I made the mistake of purchasing tickets from Fiumicino to Termini, instead of from Termini to Fiumicino. This is my mistake, I admit it. I tried to explain to the controller that we were not going to use the tickets I had bought (we live in the USA and have no plan to travel back to Rome soon) but she was very rude and made no effort to try and understand that this was just an honest mistake. She then said I had to purchase new tickets and that the cost of each ticket, when purchased on board, is 64 euros per ticket. I was so shocked that I first refused. The controller then threatened to call the airport police if I refused to pay. Having no choice, I paid, using my American Express card to pay the exorbitant amount of 128 euros (please see attached copy of that receipt). This was a total scam. The controller never informed us that purchasing tickets on board cost the astronomical amount of 64 euros per ticket. The controller was rude and discourteous and made no effort at understanding the situation. We were just tourists trying to make our way to the airport, not delinquants trying to get a free ride, but we were treated as if we had deliberately tried to break the law. I complained at the station at the airport and was given an email address to send my complaint. Needless to say, I never received a reply.
