The station is in a convenient location for tourists who are heading to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. There is work to make this an Interchange Station however this is not complete yet and the works are currently expected to take until 2025. Like the Colosseum, a lot of scammers seem to circulate within the station and just outside, and do be aware of pickpockets which seem to target this stop in particular on the Rome Metro, I did find the concourse to be quite busy and I did notice a lack of seats throughout the station for demand. I would also advise purchasing tickets beforehand for the same reason, as the ticket hall can be so crowded with queues for the machines, especially when a ticket machine is out of order. If you do have to use a ticket machine, there is an English language option. The platform area seems really worse for wear as well, and it just felt like a letdown compared to metro systems in other cities in particular such as Lisbon and Stockholm. No escalators - steps only! 3* - The location is great for tourists, but the station its-self requires a lot of work.

This is very dangerous especially if you have small children as the cars go by extremely quickly and the road is narrow and the traffic goes both ways so people are swerving around you. The people at the bicycle shop do not tell you this fact but they apologize when you get back. The bikes are in decent condition with good brakes but they are not equipped for the bumpy roads like the very Old cobblestones. This would be much better if the bicycle shop was near her to the actual start of the bike path. Again, very dangerous for young children and even dangerous for adults due to the extremely high traffic in there a street they have to write on. This is not a relaxing bike ride secondary to the bumpy conditions of the road.

We headed to the Leonardo Express platform to catch the Leonardo Express to Fiumicino Airport. The next train was leaving a couple of minutes later. We tried to tap our credit cards on the automatic machines on the platform but they were not working. We asked a Trenitalia employee and a controller, who were talking to each other at the entrance of the train, if it was ok to pay on board, and they said yes, so we decided to board the train immediately. After we found seats on the train, I pulled out my cell phone and purchased tickets online. I saw that we needed to purchase only two tickets since each adult could be accompanied by one child (please see attached copy of the tickets). Just before arriving to Fiumicino Airport, the same controller we had seen when we boarded the train asked for our tickets. I showed her the tickets on my phone and she said "I do not see tickets here". At first I did not understand what she was saying, so I asked her to repeat and explain what the problem was. That is when I realized that, in the rush, I made the mistake of purchasing tickets from Fiumicino to Termini, instead of from Termini to Fiumicino. This is my mistake, I admit it. I tried to explain to the controller that we were not going to use the tickets I had bought (we live in the USA and have no plan to travel back to Rome soon) but she was very rude and made no effort to try and understand that this was just an honest mistake. She then said I had to purchase new tickets and that the cost of each ticket, when purchased on board, is 64 euros per ticket. I was so shocked that I first refused. The controller then threatened to call the airport police if I refused to pay. Having no choice, I paid, using my American Express card to pay the exorbitant amount of 128 euros (please see attached copy of that receipt). This was a total scam. The controller never informed us that purchasing tickets on board cost the astronomical amount of 64 euros per ticket. The controller was rude and discourteous and made no effort at understanding the situation. We were just tourists trying to make our way to the airport, not delinquants trying to get a free ride, but we were treated as if we had deliberately tried to break the law. I complained at the station at the airport and was given an email address to send my complaint. Needless to say, I never received a reply.

SO this was our first train experience in Italy and it could not have been better. We took the high…read morespeed train from Venice to Florence and found it so easy and cost effective it will alter how we travel in Europe moving forward. We booked ahead and reserved seats in the Executive car. It ended up being a bit over 220 Euros for me and my son and was well worth the upgrade. We did not use the lounge, but once on board the seats are massive, there are a total of 8 in the car itself and we could easily park our luggage in the conference room. There was a meal service included with our ticket on our route along with the espresso! The train ran on time and was glass smooth. We hit 197 kph at one point and made 3 stops during our 2.5 hour trip. Even with our upgrade it was cheaper than flying and way less time dealing with airport security, dealing with your luggage etc.

Sala Blu is a free service to assist travelers with reduced mobility. She told us how to call and set up this service for each leg of our trip. The service is available in over 360 train stations. It was so perfect for me, as I was having difficulty walking. The trains were on time, fast, clean, and quiet - creating a perfect journey for us. They also served us drinks and snacks in Business Class. We highly recommend booking your tickets in advance to get the best fares and travel by train in Italy. It is well worth it.

Well located Hotel in the Monti District. Il Covo is more an accumulation of small appartements…read morethen a normal hotelcomplex, which is quite comfortable because nobody notices when you leave or come back. You feel like a local resident of rome, nor a tourist. Small breakfast in the Restaurant round the corner with awesome croissants and coffee. Restaurant is also quite good for Dinner (Excellent white wine - Firriato Altavilla). Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Charming, spacious room with good interieur with fridge and microwave. Location is inbetween walking distance to the collosseum. I can highly recommend this authentic hotel with great value.
