The selection of stores, cafes, and markets here is fantastic--you can easily kill an hour shopping or grabbing a great bite to eat while waiting for a departure. Just a heads-up: give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your train. The platforms here are incredibly long, and if your train is assigned to one of the regional tracks or a high-speed engine waiting far down the line, it can be a massive, unexpected walk to get to your carriage. Keep your eyes on the departure boards and don't linger at the shops too long.

It's super busy but conveniently is very close to a lot of stuff in Rome, so for day trips or if you are staying nearby it's very convenient. This is definitely not my favorite train station but it's also a super useful tool for getting around. Just prepare yourself for a bit of a chaotic arrival and you will be totally fine. The uber pickup area is a little hard to find, through a nondescript hallway, but getting an Uber worked pretty easily for us. In the past I've had no issues getting cabs as well - at least not no more issue than anywhere else in Rome.

Live and learn. We went from the Roma Tuscolana side of the city (southeast) to the southwest side of the city via train. You can't beat 2 Euros for a 20-minute trip with barely any people. I much preferred the train because it was not crowded. The metro was a completely different story with crowds: shoulder to shoulder all the time. I can't comment on anything else at this station like the shop, bathrooms, etc. I just walked inside, used the ticket machine and found my train. The Roma Tuscolana station was nothing glamorous, but it was handy, convenient and got the job done.

It handles around 500 trains per day, about 140,000 daily transits, and approximately 51 million passengers a year. From here there were plenty of buses for us to choose from to take to our AirBnb. The only downside, and a general issue with Rome transportation is that the approximate times are not too accurate so we found ourselves waiting longer than expected.

We decided to take the train to Santa Marinella beach one day. From doing a bit of research online…read morethe night before I saw that the trains run roughly every 30 minutes. It's a bit confusing how to buy a ticket, you need to purchase from the machine but the machine does have instructions in English. Next to find the right track it's not the best indicated but with the help of a local we were able to find the direction towards Citiaveccia. Usually I'm very leery as I've been to a bunch of train stations in Europe and there are usually seedy-low brow locals hanging around trying to scam honest tourists. This was not the case here at 10:00 AM in the morning. Maybe they were still sleeping. I was fortunately prepared with my keys in my hand to defend myself if need be! The bus station connected to the train station makes for a very busy transit location as many people are coming and going. This station also serves as a good point if you want a cheaper alternative (than a 50 euro cab ride to Fimuincino Airport (FCO).
