It is seriously deceiving just how massive Stazione Termini is until you are actually inside walking it. It feels less like a standard train station and more like a mega-mall that happens to have tracks attached. The selection of stores, cafes, and markets here is fantastic--you can easily kill an hour shopping or grabbing a great bite to eat while waiting for a departure. Just a heads-up: give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your train. The platforms here are incredibly long, and if your train is assigned to one of the regional tracks or a high-speed engine waiting far down the line, it can be a massive, unexpected walk to get to your carriage. Termini is kind of a mess, it's chaotic and for whatever reason they randomly just shut down access routes into or out of the tracks which can cause major bottlenecks. It's super busy but conveniently is very close to a lot of stuff in Rome, so for day trips or if you are staying nearby it's very convenient. This is definitely not my favorite train station but it's also a super useful tool for getting around. Just prepare yourself for a bit of a chaotic arrival and you will be totally fine. The uber pickup area is a little hard to find, through a nondescript hallway, but getting an Uber worked pretty easily for us. In the past I've had no issues getting cabs as well - at least not no more issue than anywhere else in Rome. read more

I went to Rome for the first time last month and spent my entire trip gobsmacked by the beauty of the city. When we went to Stazione Termini to catch the Frecciarossa to Florence, I figured we were in for another grand architectural marvel. It was almost a relief to find an ugly modern train station, built in the 1940s, with a utilitarian, vaguely dingbat/carceral aesthetic. Termini is Rome's main train station, and apparently the fifth-busiest in all of Europe. It was pretty bustling both times we were there, on a Tuesday and Thursday in November. I imagine it gets crowded during peak tourist season. Our high-speed train ran on time and was definitely the best way to get to Florence and back. We spent minimal time in the station itself, but it seemed like a lively, functional place, with a lot of shops and restaurants. Termini may not be a seminal Roman landmark, but it's clearly an essential part of life in Rome. read more

I came through here on my most recent trip to Rome, Italy. I took a Leonardo Express train which was €14 per nonstop ride to and from FCO Airport. You can purchase a ticket using an available kiosk. The machine will remind you to be aware of your surroundings as there will be thieves that will pickpocket you. It was a big and busy train station, so if it's your first time, it can be hard to navigate. In addition to being a massive transportation hub, they also have retail shopping and restaurants convenient for travelers to browse during the wait. On my first stop at Stazione Termini, we were waiting at one of the bus stops for the longest time and the bus was delayed and delayed and delayed. I really had to pee so I had to run into the station to use the restroom. NOT FREE. Public restrooms are not free in Europe. The restrooms here were a little more than 1€. It might have been 1,20 or 1,40. I was just painfully digging for coins so I could use the restroom. The struggle is real. We also had to go to this station to take the Leonardo Express non-stop train to Fiumicino Airport. There were sketchy aggressive characters by the ticketing machines who were trying to sell us sketchy tickets. When I told them no and to go away they got super crazy cussing at me. I felt super threatened and unsafe. If we didn't have to literally RUN to make the train, I would have pointed the police in their direction. There were plenty of shops and food options available, including supermarkets, which were very helpful. We grabbed a coffee and some snacks before heading out. Although we wanted to try Eataly, we didn't get the chance. The experience was somewhat hectic and initially overwhelming. Traveling by train is like it sounds, but I really like this station. If you're already somewhere in Europe in many ways it's a preferred option for arrival. I've just always felt a little bummed out to arrive at Fiumicino and then still have to take the train in. It's not all fun and games though. Being in Rome was awesome. We really didn't encounter any rude people. On the contrary, everyone was quite welcoming and nice. Stazione Termini is like "hold my beer". ... This station appears to be nice with shopping and cafes, but the signs can be quite confusing. Our train didn't even show up on the sign until about 20 minutes before departure. This left us scrambling to figure out where to go. It appears that Italy has an a$$hole factory and they ship their best product to this train station to work in "customer service" or "guest assistance". We don't speak Italian, but always try to use the words we know to ask questions. These people barely acknowledge you and when you point out that their jacket says assistance, they finally acquiesce, but reluctantly. Most of the information they provided was incorrect too. I rolled into Stazione Termini to reach Roma as I was spending the second half of my trip to Italy here. I think it's natural to want to base a review of a train station or an airport based on your experience with delays or staff - while I feel that some of that is valid I try to take the whole experience into consideration and be as objective as I can - so here we go. Honestly, I had a very smooth experience - the train rolled in and there were clear markings towards the exit. The station is pretty large, and I imagine it's one of the bigger ones in Roma. It's pretty modern with lots of contemporary finishes and several cafes and shops that one would expect to find in a train station. I did not get the chance to check out any of the amenities, I really just wanted to quickly exit and make it to my hotel. In that respect, Stazione Termini did their job and for the most part that's all I can ask for out of a transportation hub. read more

Slightly better than last experience in Milani when we transferred from Zurich to Torino via Milan. I like that entrance to platform was somewhat controlled as you go in you scan your ticket code so less people on platforms unlike in Milano. So far so good on business executive class train! Roma Termini is a pretty easy train station to navigate. I think it was the easiest train station of the 3 other ones in Europe that I have been to. Upon entering the train station, there is a large screen that shows all of the arrivals and departure trains. Matching with the train #, the screen will tell you which platform to go to for your train. If there is no platform number showing for your train, you must be a bit early. In this case, just check again in a few minutes and it should show. Took the fast train to Florence in the morning and typically the other train stations in Europe are super packed but it did not seem too busy here, at least in the morning. This was the easiest train process I experienced in EU though! Lots of shops located inside, as well, to walk around if you're super early for your train. read more

Shockingly easy to navigate this train station, given it's size. I keep reading that it's the biggest in Italy and the second biggest in Europe. That's cool. I found it easy to navigate. Much better than Naples or Florence, that's for sure. We came through here a few times, as our hotel was next to the station. We arrived from Naples, took the metro a few times in Rome and left to get to the airport with the Leonardo Express. There are a lot of shopping and eating options (including Mercato Centrale) throughout the station. The front area is a bit of a hot mess right now, with construction and A LOT of homeless people at night, but according to signage, this will end in 2025. The only issue we had was with the Leonardo Express. It is very obvious that track 24 is for this but it's actually either 23 or 24 and they seemed to have other trains and times on the board and couldn't get straight which was which. Man, even reading what I just wrote, I feel a bit confused. Asking the info desk didn't help either because it was the very Italian, "if it comes, it comes, who knows?" answer. Thankfully, the board did update correctly, 1 min before the departure time. It was late and left about 5 min after though so people were able to get on. read more

And no going to the airport first, checking-in, security...and so on. Just board the train (seats are reserved) and there you go... Termini is a big train station and the busiest in Rome. Still, for a city of this size, the train station is expected to be bigger. There are lots of visitors, any kind of day. And many folks in a rush. At least so it feels. We did have time and took our time. There are a good number of nice shops on the ground level. A real big food court and public restrooms (and showers) on the upper floor. Some real nice bakeries with suprisingly good products (didn't expect to find this quality in a train station). The food court is definitely something we will explore further on our next visit. Boarding the train is pretty easy. Just scan your ticket and you will get into the departing/arriving section - not without a ticket. Departure tracks are announced about 15-30mins before. Since the seats are reserved, there's no need to rush. Plenty of space for luggage above the head (even for big-sized luggage), so you really needn't worry. It is still a very very busy and bustling place. It's not really a relaxing spot, but it's lively and it can be fun. Especially if you got some extra time on your hands. Be aware: Both on our arrival and departure day there were strikes going on. Didn't affect us, since it was both time the "Trenord" train company. It was the same in Milano as well. Stazione Termini is a large train station in the center of Rome. We've used this station a few times over the years and not much has changed. Large open terminal, electronic boards overhead tell you if your train is on time and what track it will arrive/depart on, several places to eat, drink, shop, ticket machines, cash machines, etc. The usual. I see another review that states they had to pay to use the restroom here which is common, but I didn't, so bring a couple of Euro just in case. Paying means the restrooms are kept clean. The general area around the terminal is very busy. Several public buses stop outside the door making it very convenient. Traffic is heavy here and as a pedestrian be sure to use sidewalks and crosswalk. Be safe out there. You may come across a few homeless people in the vicinity. We've never had trouble with them but you may see someone sleeping out front. There are eleven platforms at this station and several types of trains. To be sure you are waiting on the right platform, check out the huge electronic Arrivals (arrivi) or Departures (partenze) boards. Look for the *train number*. Just because you are going to Naples, doesn't mean that is the trains final destination- therefore 'Naples' won't show on the electronic board! Different trains go to the same destinations at different times. Be sure you are looking at the correct train by verifying the *train number* on your ticket and the electronic board! We purchase our tickets online and keep a screen shot to show the conductor as we may not have cell reception at that moment to open the app or email. You may need to show your ticket to get through security between the main terminal and the platforms as well. There are ticket machines in the terminal and manned ticket counters plus the conductor sells tickets onboard. Note that purchasing your tickets a couple of weeks in advance will be cheaper than 'same day' purchase. Supply and demand. If you plan to travel with luggage, try to keep it small. Some seats have storage behind the seat and all have overhead racks but large bags won't fit in either spot. Many trains have assigned seating. It will show your car number and seat number on your ticket. If you have assigned seating, that means you can't just stack up your luggage on/in front of a seat. Some cars have luggage racks near the door for larger pieces. If the train is crossing a border, you may need to show your passport so keep that handy. Local trains make a lot of stops. These may not have public restrooms. If they do, they can be gross. From experience, local trains may sell 'first class' tickets, but they either don't have a first class car or the first class car is open to general seating ticket holders. If you are looking for a true first class experience, be sure you are on a train that is not a 'local'. You can tell by how long it takes to reach your destination/how many stops it makes. If the ticket is cheaper and takes longer: it's a local. High speed and/or more direct (fewer stops) train have restrooms that are cleaned daily, but still, it's a public restroom. Bring your disinfecting wipes. The nicer trains have nice facilities. The fast trains have a café car between the first class car(s) and the general seating cars. Some first class rides include one or more of these: free newspaper (in Italian), 'cleaning service' which is a wet wipe, a free drink could be espresso, wine, soda, a free snack either sweet or salty. They also have 220v plugs under the seat on these trains so bring your charge cord and plug adapter. On our last trip to Rome we took a high speed train and as there had recently been some issue with the lines, the AV (Alta Velocita-aka fast) tracks were being inspected. AV trains were sharing the slower lines with other trains delaying our arrival. Not a big deal, but if you are making a connection on your route, be sure to schedule enough time between trains to allow for delays. We've been on trains that arrive early too. It's like flying- things happen. Traveling in Italy on one or more of the many types trains is part of experiencing the Italian life. Give it a go. There's also a direct train to the Airport. Cons: This place can be chaotic and a bit seedy. There's smell of urine going up the Metro stairs. Some homeless people and other shady characters hanging out in the station and surrounding areas especially after hours but I didn't really feel that unsafe. Big and bustling and also beware the hustlers and shady folk who seemed to congregate near the entrances. We watched a group of four guys approach a couple of younger girls, engage them in conversation and eventually hit them up for their cell numbers. We watched because I wanted to make sure they weren't preying on the girls, and didn't want to walk away until we were sure the girls weren't in any danger. This station definitely gets marks for the biggest of the four Italian train stations we traveled through while on vacation. A lot of the shops on the lower level were closed, which surprised us, given we were there in the height of travel season. We did stop at a few different stores and cafes on each of our three trips, and each time the employees were friendly and welcoming. It's easy to navigate the terminal, but also easy to get turned around. The signage helps, and I saw many a nun approach a station worker to ask for help and directions. read more

I used these train station twice. Once when I arrived on the Frecciabranca and the second time when I took the Leonardo express, which is an express train to go to Fiumiccino FCO airport. The departing trains were clearly displayed on a large board that listed the platform number. The Leonardo express train to the airport left on time and it was very easy to purchase tickets on the machines for Trenitalia. Just make sure that you are looking at the right machine for buying your ticket because there are several and they vary by the company that operates the train. There were several shops and restaurants at the train station. From the train station you can also get to the metro, which is very handy if you're staying somewhere else in the city. However, you need to be extremely careful with pickpockets because they abound. I was actually warned by one of the cleaning persons that works at the station after I stopped to talk to her and asked her a question. Stazione Roma Termini is Rome's main train station. You might be surprised at its modern look, especially since you are in such an old city. Prior to 1863, Rome had separate train stations for 3 different railroad lines. In 1937, it was decided to build a new station; however, due to World War II, the station was not designed until the late 1940's and completed until 1950; with the latest renovation occurring in 2000. The anodized aluminum frieze panels set in sequence along the length of the glass wall are the work of Hungarian-Italian artist Amerigo Tot. A length of the early 4th century BC Roman Servian Wall is preserved outside the station. It is the biggest train station in Europe with 32 tracks. Anything and everything you need can be found here: ticket office, tourist office, travel agencies, car rental agencies, post office, currency exchange offices, shops, and restaurants, plus more. This is an extremely busy station, so please beware of pickpockets and scammers. For the Jubilee, the exterior of the station has been reconfigured. The taxis are now located on the right as you exit the front of the station - only take these taxis. The buses are now located directly in front of the train station. Roma Termini is a HUGE railway station, with 29 platforms, it is one of the largest in Europe. Serving approximately 150 million passengers each year, it is one of the busiest stations in the whole of Europe. When arriving in Rome via public transit, odds are you'll probably come into Termini with the airport buses and trains using this stop as a terminus, from here you can carry on your journey via metro, bus or on foot. Many businesses are located inside the station, including what seems like a small shopping centre, featuring many stores. Food and drink outlets include Five Guys, Starbucks, and Grom and there is also a LEON scheduled to open soon. I did find it very difficult to navigate the station, and there was a lack of staff members around to ask for assistance too. I ended up getting lost when trying to find Starbucks, and even the buses to the Airport, so signage around the station, especially the latter could be improved. The signage to head to Fiumicino was fine, although if you were heading to Rome's smaller airport, Ciampino, I was, it turned out to be much more difficult. PRO TIP: If heading to CIA airport, you can get the train with Trenitalia into Ciampino and then the bus from there, all in one ticket - it works out both quicker and cheaper than getting the direct coach! The building is quite impressive and has newer and older parts too, I particularly like the area outside the station, and the stores and eateries inside the station make it an ideal place to spend some time in case you're arriving early or wanting to grab some a quick bite to eat or coffee after a long trip. 4* - A great train station... but please improve the signage around the station and have more staff on hand to help passengers, especially in such a touristy city where people won't know where they're going. read more

In Naples we had our boarding passes printed out, however was told as long as we have the QR code on the phone we were good to go. They were right. Despite the size, it's not too bad for getting around and figuring out what's where at least for the train part of your journey. If you want grab-and-go, that's here. There is a huge display board with departure and arrival schedules. Note that the platform numbers aren't posted until about 15 minutes prior to departure. Not every stop along the way is noted so be sure to double-confirm that your train is the right one. They don't joke around because they are "On time" folks! Nice and clean speedy trains, lots of rooms for luggage and bags. Yes, it is a huge train station. If you do not want to take the challenge of traveling in a foreign country, a taxi ride might be better. The main section before the security, it's new, modern and lots of eateries. 1st floor has a red kiosk for TrenItalia. 2nd floor also has more shops and restaurants. Once you go thru the security to the tracks, it's another story. Arrived here from the cruise port. Took one hour on a very crowded train. However, it was very cheap. Arrives in track #26, which is a long walk to the front. If you need to be at the front with the luggage, stay inside and do the walk. Outside walkway is uneven and crowded and a lot of smokers. This train runs every hour, and if you time it right, closer distances to Roma area is only €1. For Leonardo Express train to the airport, which takes 32 minutes, leaves on track #23 or #24, which will be at the front, about 10 minutes walk from track #26. If you are leaving for the airport, cheaper ones take 1 hour. A faster €14 Leonardo Express runs every 20 minutes. Use the red TrenItalia kiosk located throughout the station. We purchased our tickets in advance on line & got to the busy station ::45 before our scheduled train. There were lines of people waiting to use the ticketing machines. We found a large departure board and waited to see the platform our train to Florence would arrive on. Ten minutes before departure we found the correct platform, showed our tickets and waited on the track to board. Our ticket indicated our carriage & seat number. It's almost 2 hrs to Florence. Seats were comfortable & had lights, trays & plugs. Masks were required. We were told that hepa filters were installed to stop the spread of the virus.There was WiFi but it was slow. A man pushed an airline cart down the aisle selling coffee and snacks. Announcements were made telling passengers, a few minutes before arriving at a station. read more

Travelers tip: you definitely should purchase your train tickets prior to getting to the train station. Can you purchase them there? Of course, but it definitely is easier to do it well before hand. We tried traveling in the different classes of sections in the train, and by far the first class seats are the most comfortable. Outside of that, there's not a huge difference, but I'm a first class woman, and it's definitely my preferred train travel I love the fact that you can take your luggage with you, but be prepared because everyone does, and there definitely is not a lot of room. In fact, the room that is available for luggage is fairly small. As a seasoned traveler, I knew not to travel with larger bags to begin with before I left the states, and this is definitely one of the reasons why. There just isn't the space for large bags. I'm not a fan of the restrooms on board the trains, but it's better than some of the alternatives, lol plus, when you are in most, if not all of the train stations in the country, just like at the airports, they charge money in the stations to use the public restrooms. It's ridiculous in my opinion, but it is what it is. If you're not traveling with cash currency, it makes it problematic if you need to Use the restroom. Definitely try traveling by train. It's so much easier than driving a vehicle, and it's worth the comfort and ease. read more

Very inhospitable. The woman who worked for the train station demanded 20 euros just to help us get to the correct gate. Arrive early so you have time to get to your station or be prepared to be robbed by the train station employees. Molto inospitale. My vacation trip was fun with taking public transportation in Rome. On top of that I have friend who lives there and help me communicate with people. The station is so crowded as normal for a big train station but the station is pretty clean. read more
