facility was nice and alot of free time but i wanted to warn any families of inmates : If you have a public defender named rhonda hayes, request a differed pd asap. I had to do 10 months of county time because of her when i could of been released after only 3 months of serving time. She neglected to tell me of the DA'S offer to me. If it wasnt for her calling out sick on one of my court dates and getting a substitute public defender i would of never found this out . He said i was heading to trial and would most likely get sentenced to 6 years in prison. Luckily he got me released that day on probation read more

My Relative was housed in this facility for 11months. During that time they really tried to get her to change her behaviors. I was able to put money and packages on her account through accesspak. The program " Los Angeles county program" on the site right below Kern County! This took me awhile of being on hold to get this information. I have spoken to staff, social workers, the mental health department. They all seem really nice. The calm center for inmate information about the booking and visits was really nice too. I don't know why it got such a low review from others? My relative had a microwave for the whole dorm, a clock, clean beds, bedding, medication, groups, showers! For free or alittle restitution you can't beat the situation. read more

This facility should be shut down or reformed in a hardcore way. The place is filthy and no matter what you did, because of the pandemic, they place you in solitary confinement. I spent about a week alone in a freezing cell with no underwear, no bra, no toothpaste or soap. I was only let out about 15-30min a day in a "day room" that has no windows so you don't see the sky or know what's going on outside. My longest day without coming out of the cell was 36 hours! 36 hours with nothing but me, God, and my conscience. This entire experience lit a fire in my soul. The system is broken and we need to fix it. 1. Why does CRDF think it's okay to place people in solitary confinement? What they call "quarantine" is inhumane. 2. The water pipes have an issue where the water was coming out brown. I as an inmate, see that they deliver boxes of water bottles to the deputies for the inmates. Well, the deputies put them all in the back and we inmates had to continue to shower, wash our hands, and cook (you gotta make food!) with that brown water 3. Deputies have relationships with the inmates! We had a trustee in our day room sleeping with a deputy just to be a trustee and get whatever she wanted and treat everyone else poorly. Several inmates wrote grievances but nothing was done. 4. While I was an inmate, I saw other inmates get removed because they had snuck in weed, coke, or dope, etc. which brings us all back to if there were no corrupt cops, there would be no drugs. Clearly they have officers who facilitate the brining in of drugs. 5. I did not receive basic hygiene supplies during a pandemic, and we were forced to mop and clean our cells with black mop water. (I think CRDF wanted the inmates to get Covid) otherwise, they would have cared enough to provide essentials like SOAP! read more

I tried to get information about my sibling. The first time I tried to get through, I was on hold for one hour. The second time I tried to get through, I was on hold for two hours. The third time, half an hour. The person who answered was very kind and supportive. I drove 2 1/2 hours for a visit, and the individuals were kind enough, through visitors entrance, but I didnʻt get to see my sibling. After waiting for 20 minutes a kind man there to visit his fiancee told me to go back down to reception to ask why she hadnʻt been brought. They called, and they said she wasnʻt stable enough for visitors. Housing someone with PTSD in jail, for a psychotic break, to me seems criminal. She has been in here a month under the name Jane Doe, and if she hasnʻt stabilized in a month, there has to be really bad things going on. Iʻve seen it again, and again, and again. Vulnerable people preyed on in situations like this. We need our policy makers, each and every one, before they get elected, to go in as "secret checkers" and spend a few nights in these places before there will be change. read more

They get 1 star because visiting is easy. But negative 4 for the following reasons. A single mother of 3, to embarrassed to tell her family she was stealing to support her children. Unfortunately well hidden until it was to late she was given a public defender who did little. As i watched in fear at the sentencing as drug dealers, assault and battery, and even auto theft being handed probation/ time served and light county sentencing. Up comes the 100lb mother of 3... facing a financial crime in one of the most expensive cities in the country. As the prosecution reads out 4 charges of 459.5 and 1 of 487a I quickly consulted attorney google... Petty theft and one grand.... all cases from Target Totaling 3800. The Prosecutor acting as if this was the crime of the century asking for 1 year for every petty theft and 3 years for the grand... I quickly reached for my abacuses to see how we feel the cost of jail time converts to money....oh $1.50 a day Well the public defender had her agree to 18mo as a split and under AB109 ( oh wait doesn't the county get stipend for AB109... of course that's a great idea) I will admit this was her 2nd time Anyways Our 1st conversation she's telling me the attorney said I won't stay long... then I had to inform her AB109 isn't the same early kick. Well here we are 70 days in. Did anyone think about the kids ? Why a mother would be doing something such as this. The mental anguish of the person as guards tell her "I know you want to opt for a pat down VS the X-ray babe" (Makes me question if they do Sv readings on inmates) The water pipes breaking and inmates made to strip down to minimal due to cooling issues only to get remarks like "Don't be shy I see more at the beach" The judge with the AB109 even considering leaving someone in a county jail for nearly a year! The prosecutor actually thinking 3800 is worth years in jail ? ( maybe she would try to live for a year on minimum wage and assistance and see what options she comes up with) Really LA I'm so proud of who we are (that's sarcasm) I'm actually ashamed of my own city; a financial crime doing this long with no thought of alternative sentencing of a single mother.... shame !! read more

So. I was put in there on false allegations, which in 5 days my case was dismissed. However, I had to spend those days in a temp cell as big as a bathroom. It was dirty, and you had to drink out of a faucet with brown water while employees drank water bottles. They give you no soap, no toothbrush or toothpaste, and no medicine for the first day or two you're there. I'm extremely asthmatic. I take a nebulizer every day. I came in with two inhalers, but they wouldnt letnme have them! I had a severe asthma attack the first day and was told my deputy ms. Olea that I was being dramatic because I was crying and banging on the door for help. I told her I needed an inhaler, that's it. She said she couldn't do anything the dr wasn't there. Lol, that's it? There were nurses, and finally, i was sent there after throwing a fit for hours. The nurse had to sneak me teo puffs of an inhaker hebsaid hebwasnt suppose too. I guess he felt bad for me because he could besr my wheezing, and any dr or nurse knows if you're wheezing that bad, it's an emergency!!!! Two puffs barely did anything, though. You could hear me wheezing audibly. Obviously, I wasn't lying. People were screaming, banging on doors, going crazy! It was like the psych wards back on the day that got closed down! Can't believe this is happening in America. Luckily, I'm mentally strong, but some people just went crazy.they had diabetics in there with no insulin for days! We were let out 20 min a day only. One day, she didn't let us out at all. The deputies would sit there and laugh and make jokes about us going crazy. Thrybwere heartless. I will be contacting the news. The only deputy there that was nice was Mr. Robles. He actually listened, and when he was there, everything was as peaceful as it could be for that situation. My roomie and I adored him. We felt safe . Every time we called for him, he would come and always treat us with respect. I won't stop until my asthma attack video hits the news, Ms. Olea gets fired, and this place gets shut down. I'm lucky I survived. read more

Let me start off by saying that whoever Monica and Peter are who gave this place 4 and 5 stars...you know they work for the sheriffs department!!!!! I suffered from everything that all the other reviews mentioned and then some. I just saw a few videos and listened to the different deputies describe it as a place where they try to help inmates with various types of programs that they offer. Bullshit!!! I visited an inmate here a couple times and wanted to share some tips. Visiting: You can go in person and wait or schedule a visit online. Visits are scheduled a week out and spots fill up fast. My GPS couldn't find the entrance so look at it on a map. It's really easy to pass it. You have to pay for parking. They say show up 30 minutes before your appointment - both times I was closer to 15 minutes and they still let me go but it wasn't worth the stress. It took about 30 minutes longer than the GPS said every visit. Plan to get there early. I was told don't bring anything except ID and key inside. Bring a credit card too so you can pay for parking at the kiosk on the way out (otherwise you have to walk to your car and back). You have to go through a metal detector. Then, there's two different hallways and three floors to see visitors. Everything looks the same other than being color coded. When you check in they'll give you a paper that says where to go. I saw someone miss half their visit because they went to the wrong floor. One visit I scheduled the last time slot of the day and we got close to 45 minutes instead of the 30 minutes they scheduled. I'm sure that depends on the deputy. Letters/books: The jail website has really strict instructions about what can be said or included in letters and how to send books. Books have to come from Amazon, B&N, etc. It took anywhere from 4-7 days for my friend to get my letters and even longer to get the ones from her. She sent one letter certified (which should go out faster) and that took longer than her other letters! I had one letter get rejected - she never got it. She sent me two letters that were rejected. She told me later that it depended on the deputy how often they would get mail. Some were better about it than others. Phone calls: When you get a call it takes FOREVER to get through the prompts. The first couple times I tried to put in my credit card number and my friend had to hang up before the call ever got through (usually they were put on lockdown). Then I just loaded up my account. It's a total scam - they take almost 30% fee. Even after that it took a couple minutes for calls to go through. There were times my friend could call multiple times a day. read more

DISCLAIMER *** This is not my usual upbeat story *** Fridgid mornings, the line forms at four A.M. No matter how early you wake, the line will always extend beyond the building to the brink of the parking lot. If it would approach the parking lot, but not quite reach it, your lucky. That meant that the wait would only be about four hours. At least, halfway through the wait time, I'd reach the counter, once registered, you could sit down and relax. If there were seats available. But standing against the wall is always an option as well, if you could find a spot on the wall to lean against. I would usually crouch down on the floor a while, avoiding the screaming children who resembled Japanese Kamikazes, rather than the innocence of play. I could count on the Sheriff to scream without the use of the microphone, "Mothers! Take care of your babies or you will lose your visit!" That always reestablished the mother instinct. I don't get cold easily, but it's deadly cold underground, which seems to stimulate the desire to perform lively functions, like using the restroom. But I remember someone used the restroom once, they were called forward for the visit, and lost their place. I had never seen a moment of composed despair, the desire to kick and scream and allow the animal inside to escape, but composure disciplined the desire, knowing full well that the privilege to visit can be revoked in its entirety. I saw her sit and wait another hour to visit her inmate. My own tears welled for her. My name is called, and I walk forward to check in. My mind is racing, because after about five hours, I wonder if today they will give us the usual 15 minutes, or give a little extra time when the sheriffs are feeling generous. I had been there countless times to visit, but I still get anxious wondering how I can talk about everything that needs to be said, in the brief amount of time I have. "No, do not take your Identification yet until I have checked you in, and why haven't you removed your belt yet!" One sheriff admonished. "I'm sorry," was all I could say. "You would think he would know the routine, given he's been here so many times, maybe he doesn't want the visit," barked another Sheriff. "I'm sorry," is all I could say, feeling anger grow heavy between my throat and my heart. I'm past the usual hazing, and walk down the hall towards the elevators. The windows reveal that the entrance to the jailhouse is entirely underground, while still showing a slope of dirt leading to the gray sky through various windows on one side. The cold penetrates on all sides of me. It comes in through the windows, and collects in the concrete, which only seems to create more cold. The floor, the ceiling, the walls, all polished concrete. It's gray inside and gray outside, cold. An ancient catacomb, complete with an unforgiving entrance. I reach the elevator, and press the second floor to visit my inmate. Posted warnings remind me that I cannot ask for assistance unless ten minutes have elapsed, and I have not seen my inmate. The long room starts to fill with inmates, in small cubicles resembling telephone booths. We are on the other side, separated by glass and cinder blocks. You can feel a layer of cold on the concrete, as if it was a thick blanket, laid on top. I'm anxious, as family after family sees their loved one. At fifteen minutes, I leave the room and return to an alcove with a speaker and a camera focused on a single black button. "What!" Roars from the small speaker. "I'm sorry, it's been about fifteen minutes, and my inmate hasn't appeared," I stutter. "Give me the inmate info, and I'll see," the voice yells. After a few minutes of wait, "your inmate is en route, do not leave the visiting area or you will lose your visit," angry, as if I should have known. The families being to leave, one by one. I'm anxious even more, and I'm startled when a voice roars from unseen speakers in the visiting room, "visiting is now over, everyone must leave now, inmates back to your cells!" I ask out loud, "does that include me?" Another deafening "no!" Again, as if I should have known. The room empties, and I wait until I begin to think they have forgotten me. I stare a single black spider that has come out through the cinderblocks. How the inmates would plead with the spider to trade places, and crawl out the same hole the spider just came in through. My inmate appears. "Hi mom..." The kind sheriffs apparently were generous, I was given about half an hour, and an exclusive floor with no other visitors, I was thankful, even though it was their mistake. I leave the visiting room and wait for the elevator. The doors open, and I hesitate. I place a foot into the stall, but pull it back, turn and press the black button next to the small speaker. "What now!?" Angrier than before. In a five year old voice that I had no idea I still possessed, "thank you," Cold silence. read more

You get what you pay for... Think of the worst hotel...ehrmm motel, not being able leave it, having to share living space with a psycho or tweaker who hates being there just as much. The place doesn't get cleaned very often (staph) and constantly reeks of vomit, the bed is a god aweful piece of crap rectangular foam (made of recycled sponges from walmart??) on top of a steel slab, they leave a blaring flourescent light on all day long (I think I got 3 to 4 hours of sleep max nightly for the first week), the room is made of very thick solid brick walls which were so god damn small and narrow with not much wiggle room at all...you get to stare at these white brick walls all day long, if you actually do get a room with a window it's so narrow like a sliver..hard to tell the time of day everyday, there's vomit all over the sink/fountain which is the only place you can drink your water from!, after you clean up the sink with the one towel they give you it still reeks of vomit everywhere, you gotta pee or do your number 2's out in the open in front of your roommate and a guard that passes by anytime she wants. I know a few of them are eager to do body cavity searches from getting to spend close contact with them during the 12-hour processing to check-in to this "motel". Besides huge loud steel doors slamming shut several times an hour, your neighbors aren't exactly the best (one was fighting with her roommate with such rage screaming at the top of her lungs that she can't breathe she needs help shes going to die....while guards barely flinched and ignored her for a few hours, another woman screaming "f*** this shit" all day long for hours on end... where does she get this energy? I don't know! Maybe all the easy access to drugs from being friends with the seasoned-inmates. Need I say more?!? Oh and don't forget the usual, you are treated like the worst shit/worm on the planet by all the staff and guards who make sure to control your every move: where you look, what cell you go to, where and when you walk, if they want to answer any requests or not. There are many more reasons (too many to list here) which made me think that if there were a hell on earth...this was truly it. The conditions were not made for humans to bear...or barely survive. For hours, a day, two days, weeks!? There are a few perks however: I lost that last 10 pounds I've been previously working on (lol). Room service...their version. they drop food or whatever that is on the floor three times a day. Inmates operating on a generally coolness code of conduct, you're cool and we're cool, we're in this together! LOL Entertaining psychopaths screaming the funniest shit I've heard EVER (some don't care about what others think. I mean this is jail, right? Sky's the limit lol, Broad exposure to different people, quite a lot of fascinating conversations. Inmates getting scared when they find out what you are in for haha. Having a greater appreciation of the sun upon release...definitely do not want to go back!! read more

Ive been here to visit an inmate three or four times. Its a colorful place, much better than twin towers visiting, where they actually are rather rude and arbitrary. The down side is that , being more organized, they are also less human and humane. I watched them send Hispanic people outside to the portapotty to use the toilet while I, an older white woman, walked right into the indoor bathroom. When you arrive, ( as early as 8 a.m on monday, tuesday, saturday or sunday, ) you park and walk into the building to get a number. They only give so many numbers... and those numbers get in first. Its not that you wont get in without a number but you may have to wait til the next wave, an hour or more. Which is not sooo long. So go in and get a number, go back in line. Be sure to bring your inmates booking number. If not, the nice sherriff at the desk will give it to you. Be sure to say please, may I, that will go a long way. They have a form you must fill out with your name, your persons booking number and their name, you must have ID, with a valid picture. helps to have a pen of your own. You dont have to be a relative, but you cannot have a felony against you to visit. that's what they say, but looks like there are some felons in the visiting area, certainly ex cons, to me. so who knows. Once you get into the basement there are vending machines, and the wait isnt usually more than an hour. Then there seem to be two directions, to the left women in custody with issues which seperate them from the general population , and to the right , the general population. You get twenty or thirty minutes to visit. The phones dont always work, the deputy 'inside' must activate them. You will need to get a locker if you brought anything with you you must store it in the ten inch lockers they provide, and this is Important - Bring a Quarter, they dont provide change. Although you can get change upstairs at the cashier where people put money on inmates 'books' but that may be a wait, and you'll miss your place in line. There is a kind of wonderful community, not that they are friendly, but they are all the relatives and friends of people who are in trouble, and they've all come to spend some time with them. Some of them have brought children. I grew up visiting my sister ... it's not so bad. Children endure. i have, on the other hand, been on hold for thirty minutes as I write this, trying to get some information. They rarely anwer their phones. the web site won't bring up the inmate when i type in the name, as usual. one thing, in general, the attitudes of the people in charge are the typical arrogant attitudes of people when they have too much power and not enough accountabliity. There is a disrespect, disregard that would get them fired if they actually were public employees, (o yeah they are...!) I mean private, and, if they didnt have a gun. They have absolute power to not let you in -and if you complain - worse - it ends up with the inmates handlers.... .and since there is already no accountability up there, everyone is very careful with the deputies. They are all in their twenties or early thirties. Who would take that job if it wasn't ..an improvement... to their lives.? i mean its kind of an awful job. That's important to remember. There are one or two exceptions, women who are responsive, even helpful. But everyone knows they can decide arbitrarily to help or hinder. If it is like that for the visitor, imagine what it's like inside. read more

What can i say, sometimes people dont like being punched in the face and you find yourself staying here vs your buddys couch after a night of beers. First off the Douche bag had it coming. Secondly its not that rough in there. I mean, its not a state facilty. Sure its a little frosty, ya, they do have a couple of guys that can take a punch, but for the most part I didnt mind my short stay. I dont have any reservations to revisit but if im gonna get locked up it sure beats the mexican jail i was in once. Last week I was arrested for restraining my out of control teen from running away. Last year I served as a juror on a case that lasted nearly two weeks. One of the questions the judge asked us all, " Do you believe that our men and women in uniforms are the same as everyone else?" I replied, "They put their pants on one leg at a time as we do all. I am no longer that ignorant fool. The bulk of the female deputies suffer from Napoleonic syndrome and I would bet my life that if tested for methamphetamine, at least 30% would test positive on their night crew. These young, twenty something women, with major insecurity issues, release their stress on inmates. The deputies are inhumane, you do not treat people in such a manner, you just don't. The deputy that transported me was "training" a new deputy roughly 15 years her senior. She put on a show of power, I left saying, "I hope you do not become jaded like this one, she is the reason female officers have such a negative stereotype. The deputy, was racing on the 110 and playing with her android phone. I was truly concerned about her getting us in an accident, so I asked, "Isn't it illegal to be on the phone while driving?" She responded, "Shut The F**k up!" I asked, "Excuse me?" It just got worse from there. I did not commit a crime, period! My wise, manipulative teen, had me arrested, since I'm unable to return to my home and she is running around with no supervision. What is wrong with this country?!!! read more

Inmates r treated like dirt. They r verbally and physically assaulted by the guards. Male guards watch the women shower. If another inmate attacks u the guards just laugh and do nothing about it. The women guards r the worst. They r dikes. Don't expect working toilets or toilet paper. Sometimes you don't even get a cell with working faucet for water. showers r always filthy and u can catch a disease from the nurses lack of hygiene. food is slop. pigs wouldn't even eat it. Mental health services r a joke. medical care is almost absent. Doctors do not fu on pts who come back from hospital. people have died in here due to lack of medical care given by the "Medical staff". Even if u r found innocent in crt u r still treated liked dirt before they even release u. strip searches. and cavity searches after returning from crt. totally illegal. 2 hr releases r 6 hrs read more

I can't in good conscience give this place a bad review since I did 1 day out of a 30 day sentence. It's relatively clean, officers are not nice but they aren't really mean unless you keep pestering them about stuff. They have body scanners now so you don't have to do the dreaded "squat and cough", but you still have to strip naked. Inmates are mostly cool, most of them are in for small stuff and hoping for an early kick too. However, be prepared to spend 20+ hours a day in a tiny room with a terrible window that overlooks a parking lot. They don't give reading materials either so either be amazing at sleeping or hope you get a bunkie who wants to chit chat. Being locked in a room is awful even if it is clean. The food is edible but not good. The biggest tip I can give from what I experienced is to just try to relax the best you can. read more

Seeing negative reviews on this made me want to right a truthful one, I was jailed in the county jail for month, I didn't like the week of process, but never suffered any abuse, I actually like some sheriffs are really nice only few are mean, but they don't put their hands on you. It was my first time being in jail and I was scared but everyone was nice, the inmate were nice, encouraging and friendly. Safety and sexual harassment is top priority over there. I have witnessed though a lot of disrespect for sheriffs, some inmates are rude and don't listen this is fact. I believe that bad attitude don't get anyone anywhere. I never witnessed any abuse to any inmates or even inmates themselves complain that they have been abused but the only jail inmates were complaining about of being abused was the one in Orange County I think but not county jail in Lynwood. I want to thank all inmates in county jail for advice and being good people and all in the working dom and all sheriffs in the working dom especially miss Q, miss Robertson, miss Lee. Miss cantor was rude lol. trustees: Courtney, Besos God bless you! Working Dom was the best, they do have programs for inmates to get out early they are really good to take advantage of, I saw many inmates get out early than expected. I have realized that some people in life no matter what you do they never appreciate anything. county jail in 2018 is really good and they do their best, if you in jail basically your in jail don't expect anyone to be babysitting you, just be nice and work on your way out and make a better life after that. read more
