We were a group of eight tent campers and required a site that could accommodate two large tents…read moreand had electricity. I also needed a place that could accommodate my pickup truck along with a 30 foot trailer which was hauling our boat. Upon arrival at Riverside Acres I've met John, one of the owners.  He got me signed in pretty quickly and then guided/led us directly to where our site was because it was dark. We were able to park my truck and boat right on the same site as where we were camping.  The site #49 was huge and had water and electric. The next morning we met, Pam the other owner. She was out making her rounds, cleaning the restrooms and making sure all the campers had everything they needed.  We had a very pleasant conversation and we learned that these two (John & Pam) recently purchased this Campground just a few short years ago. They are making upgrades to the property as time and budget allows.    1. They have an area for seasonal RV's and campers which is pretty well established. Many of these sites the seasonal renters have built on patio, porches, decks, screen rooms Etc.  It's a cozy little environment and the seasonal folks that I met were very kind to us transient Tent campers.  2.  The general area for RV's and tents is off to the right of the seasonal area.  Here you will find a few sites against a wall of trees toward the back of the campground that offers some seclusion/shade. Looking back towards the front of campgrounds and now to the left is the rest of the area.  These open sites run along the high ground which overlooks a HUGE open field that is well maintained. Site #49 on this side is the only site with a large pine tree.  3. Cottages!  This property also offers cottages on the front of the property along the main road.  Now, these cottages are fairly dated but the owners have done some nice things to give them an updated feel, while maintaining the originality/nostalgia value here.  For example, the cottages have antique looking Kitchenette type stoves that are probably worth some money to those who are into the classic pieces.   I know I told you we were tent camping, but we ended up staying in a cottage after a nasty storm rolled through at 2 AM and very quickly displaced us.  About the epic storm... out of nowhere in the middle of the night, the thunder and fierce lightning came in, bring with it, hail and a torrential downpour. Our tents were no match for the excessively high wind gusts which leveled our tents and allowed for a foot of water to cover the bottom of the floor within just a few short minutes. We scrambled to get ourselves and children out of the colapsed tent and into our nearby vehicle for shelter. I went back out into the storm to salvage our children's Electronics and some other necessities out of the collapsed tent. It was then I Heard a Voice calling for us to seek shelter in the main Campground building. As I looked over my shoulder in the down pouring rain and complete darkness it was then I was able to see in the crackling flashes of lightning, Pam!!!!!   Pam had ventured out in the nasty storm to make sure her guest were okay and knew where to seek shelter.  So, us and the other fellow tent campers that evening took up refuge in the game room. Pam was fantastic!  She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed to at least be comfortable and safe for the night.  The next day it was time to clean up our site and see what we could salvage.  After the toll this storm took on our tents, canopy and everything else, we decided it best to pack it up and head out, cutting our vacation short.  Pam wouldn't hear of it.  She gave us a tour of the only open cottage she had without a renter and said we could stay there for the next two days!!!   So, that's what we did! Picked up, packed up and moved camp over the the cottage.  We were warm, dry and cozy with our own private shower!!!! It was perfect for our current situation! Then, the next day I locked my keys in my running truck.  John allowed me to go into his shop, cut some wood strips on his miter saw for wedges and loaned me an already straightened out coat hanger.  I was able to open my truck in about 2 minutes with the help of his make shift tools!  These two host/owners were awesome.  They became our friends and by the end of our stay, it didn't feel right leaving without a firm handshake and a hug!!!  We will be back to support this campground and what all it has to offer: Pros: * Fantastic people who own it * Pool for the kids * Playground for the kids * Large sites * Water and electric * Hot Showers * Right next to town (Clayton) * Public boat launch close by * Great base to go and explore the 1000 Islands * Friendly fellow campers/seasonal campers * Lots of space to keep my trailer/boat onsite. * Very reasonably priced * Clean - Owners active everyday * We had a great time

As an avid lane swimmer, this pool just doesn't cut it. I will admit that I'm used to 10 or 12…read morelanes versus 6. For one, there's way too few lanes and too many people "scheduled" to use them. One minute you're swimming along the next minute there's two other people in your lane! You don't need three people in a lane if there are other lanes that only have one person in it. I watched as this happened to several lanes where the people had to stop swimming to figure out what was going on because the people that joined their lane weren't really swimming in a circle. They were kind of trolling along. And that's not what lane swimming is for. It's ridiculous. You can't Get in a decent swim if you're having to stop and wait for people to move along. Finally, why do I have to "check in" at the desk if I have registered, only to have to then go scan my card to enter. I was told I had to do this. but then there were patrons who said that I didn't have to do it. Also, the availability times are extremely limited. They need more times in the afternoon between 2 and 5 PM.

My wife, son, daughter-in-law and I were on Wellesley Island on vacation for a week. We wanted to…read moreget fresh veggies and fruit before going to the supermarket to stock up for the week. I found Cross Island Farms on the internet and we decided to check it out. The farm was not what I expected but it turned out to be a pleasant experience. When we drove up to the front of the house (yes, house) we were greeted by two friendly dogs. As we are all dog lovers, we made friends with them right away. We went inside and saw a table full of fresh fruit and vegetables and more in a refrigerated case. Someone (one of the owners?) came to help us. She helped us choose what we needed and told us about the selection of meats. We then also bought a thick sirloin steak that we ate that night. It was yummy. She also told us about the fruit picking. We went back the following morning to do that and got some more freshly picked fruit. Wow, those strawberries were very tasty. Can't get them in Westchester County. (We live in Peekskil, NY and Denver. No one is from San Francisco. Where did that come from?) As for the animals, I think you have to take the full tour to see them all. But we did see a few pigs and goats. I wanted to pet them all as they seemed friendly but they were behind a fence. Oh well. Overall, a very satisfying experience. Just don't expect anything fancy.

They sell goat, beef, pork, [organic/free-range] eggs, fruits, vegetables and herbs. They have educational (and enjoyable) farm tours, primitive campsites (private&no energy/water hook-ups, walk in etc.,) and volunteer opportunities. It is a fairly small farm run by two people in the thousand islands region of NY.

I do wonder how often it gets a scrub thought as sometimes I am there and it looks grubby. I also think it is a rip off that they charge the adults when you have to go in with your child. Although they do offer day camp during the summer for older kids but these kids don't really seem to be supervised as they are running around all over whacking each other play weapons. All in all I will take my son back as he does enjoy it.

Exorbitant price tag to visit this part of the river. Granted the money supposedly goes into…read moreconservation and maintenance but at nearly $100/day I find this unreasonable. The facility is nice, the path down to the river is great and the staff were mostly friendly, but the special regulations and a fisherman's inability to take certain species off property when just off property NYS regulations allow otherwise seems pretty ridiculous considering the price. I will say the fishing holes are marked well and the brochure map they provide is nice. The river itself is great! I know they deepened certain holes to encourage fish to linger on property longer, but this comes at a price as well. I encountered so many other fisherman, the water itself felt pressured and fish responded to the tourism. You can still have an amazing day here and everyone should visit at least once. What they have here is really special. My only real gripe is the price, which makes it unreasonable for me to return, when a quarter mile upstream is free public water.

Wow! I thought I had reviewed the Leo Boisvin Community Centre, but apparently not! It's time to…read morechange that... So, we in Prescott are really lucky to have this community centre for special events. It used to be a hockey rink, but it outlived its usefulness and would cost more to upgrade and would never be up to par to compare with modern hockey rinks. The town is thankfully building a new one in the west end of town south of the 401 (more on that when they finally open it). Meanwhile, rather than tear down this rink, they have converted it to a community centre, and they host special events there, like a Christmas craft show, roller skating events, and different shows. There was recently a small local business show hosted there, where companies showcased their wares (such as a coffee company, trailer company, real estate businesses, a tiny homes outfit, and so on). We are really lucky to have this venue! I'm so glad the town is putting it to good use. It is a good size for these events, without being a huge complex. We will definitely be back.

Walker house is a seniors' centre and activities club in Prescott Ontario. It is very well run,…read moreinexpensive to join, with monthly community events, such as High Tea, and Christmas in July turkey dinner with stuffing and desert, etc. - these cost a little extra - but it's well worth it! They offer monthly luncheons, knitting and crochet / craft group get togethers, and the occasional field trip. There's a euchre club and a woodworking club. I believe there are others. They get together weekly. Great!
