I found Cross Island Farms on the internet and we decided to check it out. The farm was not what I expected but it turned out to be a pleasant experience. When we drove up to the front of the house (yes, house) we were greeted by two friendly dogs. As we are all dog lovers, we made friends with them right away. We went inside and saw a table full of fresh fruit and vegetables and more in a refrigerated case. Someone (one of the owners?) came to help us. She helped us choose what we needed and told us about the selection of meats. We then also bought a thick sirloin steak that we ate that night. It was yummy. She also told us about the fruit picking. We went back the following morning to do that and got some more freshly picked fruit. Wow, those strawberries were very tasty. Can't get them in Westchester County. (We live in Peekskil, NY and Denver. No one is from San Francisco. Where did that come from?) As for the animals, I think you have to take the full tour to see them all. But we did see a few pigs and goats. I wanted to pet them all as they seemed friendly but they were behind a fence. Oh well. Overall, a very satisfying experience. Just don't expect anything fancy.

It is a fairly small farm run by two people in the thousand islands region of NY.

As an avid lane swimmer, this pool just doesn't cut it. I will admit that I'm used to 10 or 12…read morelanes versus 6. For one, there's way too few lanes and too many people "scheduled" to use them. One minute you're swimming along the next minute there's two other people in your lane! You don't need three people in a lane if there are other lanes that only have one person in it. I watched as this happened to several lanes where the people had to stop swimming to figure out what was going on because the people that joined their lane weren't really swimming in a circle. They were kind of trolling along. And that's not what lane swimming is for. It's ridiculous. You can't Get in a decent swim if you're having to stop and wait for people to move along. Finally, why do I have to "check in" at the desk if I have registered, only to have to then go scan my card to enter. I was told I had to do this. but then there were patrons who said that I didn't have to do it. Also, the availability times are extremely limited. They need more times in the afternoon between 2 and 5 PM.

A big selling feature is that there are separate change rooms for the gym and the pool. This means that if you're going to work out you're not walking in puddles while trying to change, also, I've never seen a child in the change-room for the gym so it feels more comfortable for me. Also, the real reason that we got City of Ottawa memberships is because we aren't forced into a contract like with a regular gym. Instead you pay month to month, if you are going to be there. This is nice because I prefer to work out outside during the summer and won't be wasting money on a membership for those months.

Under their umbrella, there's a ton of fitness centres and wellness programs (like the Nepean Tennis Club!) under their "lifefit" heading. I had my first experience here in a summer camp when I was young, and then at a volleyball camp as a teen. As an adult, I appreciate all the clubs and sport leagues available. They also do training courses like CPR and First Aid, and have specialty classes like Fine Art which is cool. Their facility is a big one, and there's a ton to learn and see, so take your time and soak it all in. I'm a big advocate of checking out their website to see what might be of interest to your fine self. You can get an individual or family membership, and there's a lot of options, so if you get confused, maybe go in for a chat. The FieldHouse Bar and Grill is also a part of the centre and serves up breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks and drinks. There's also a sports shop that sells fitness gear like clothing, tennis rackets and they offer restringing which is helpful. They also have banquet and special event services as well as a massage and physiotherapy clinic! If you're looking to get active or make some new friends, this is an awesome place to check out. The lobby is nice and welcoming and the signage is very helpful to get the guests to where they need to be in the building. The food the catering staff creates is top quality and their event staff must be on point as I've never attended an event where anything went wrong from the venue's perspective. They recently added a temporary extension off the front. I'm not sure what this building houses. It includes an enclosed walkway from the main building to the new temporary building. That walkway is a bit awkwardly placed and makes cab drop-offs and pick-ups somewhat difficult. It's not possible to see the full driveway and getting passed the temporary walkway is a bit of a squeeze in order to get to the cab drop-off/pick-up. But with all new things come a few bumps, so I'm sure they'll figure this out quickly.

My friends started to throw a few things and I quickly joined in. You would not believe how hard it is to smash a keyboard. Lots of plates and glass to break. You get a few baseball-bat , Crowbars, sledgehammer. I personally had so much fun smashing a radio. It's a different activity that's for sure. You want to put on a pair of shoes that is appropriate. I would also recommend that you wear a hat or tuque. Because glass will get everywhere. They provide you with a cover all, gloves and a protective face shield. It's a very quick activity. We were a group of eight tent campers and required a site that could accommodate two large tents…read moreand had electricity. I also needed a place that could accommodate my pickup truck along with a 30 foot trailer which was hauling our boat. Upon arrival at Riverside Acres I've met John, one of the owners.  He got me signed in pretty quickly and then guided/led us directly to where our site was because it was dark. We were able to park my truck and boat right on the same site as where we were camping.  The site #49 was huge and had water and electric. The next morning we met, Pam the other owner. She was out making her rounds, cleaning the restrooms and making sure all the campers had everything they needed.  We had a very pleasant conversation and we learned that these two (John & Pam) recently purchased this Campground just a few short years ago. They are making upgrades to the property as time and budget allows.    1. They have an area for seasonal RV's and campers which is pretty well established. Many of these sites the seasonal renters have built on patio, porches, decks, screen rooms Etc.  It's a cozy little environment and the seasonal folks that I met were very kind to us transient Tent campers.  2.  The general area for RV's and tents is off to the right of the seasonal area.  Here you will find a few sites against a wall of trees toward the back of the campground that offers some seclusion/shade. Looking back towards the front of campgrounds and now to the left is the rest of the area.  These open sites run along the high ground which overlooks a HUGE open field that is well maintained. Site #49 on this side is the only site with a large pine tree.  3. Cottages!  This property also offers cottages on the front of the property along the main road.  Now, these cottages are fairly dated but the owners have done some nice things to give them an updated feel, while maintaining the originality/nostalgia value here.  For example, the cottages have antique looking Kitchenette type stoves that are probably worth some money to those who are into the classic pieces.   I know I told you we were tent camping, but we ended up staying in a cottage after a nasty storm rolled through at 2 AM and very quickly displaced us.  About the epic storm... out of nowhere in the middle of the night, the thunder and fierce lightning came in, bring with it, hail and a torrential downpour. Our tents were no match for the excessively high wind gusts which leveled our tents and allowed for a foot of water to cover the bottom of the floor within just a few short minutes. We scrambled to get ourselves and children out of the colapsed tent and into our nearby vehicle for shelter. I went back out into the storm to salvage our children's Electronics and some other necessities out of the collapsed tent. It was then I Heard a Voice calling for us to seek shelter in the main Campground building. As I looked over my shoulder in the down pouring rain and complete darkness it was then I was able to see in the crackling flashes of lightning, Pam!!!!!   Pam had ventured out in the nasty storm to make sure her guest were okay and knew where to seek shelter.  So, us and the other fellow tent campers that evening took up refuge in the game room. Pam was fantastic!  She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed to at least be comfortable and safe for the night.  The next day it was time to clean up our site and see what we could salvage.  After the toll this storm took on our tents, canopy and everything else, we decided it best to pack it up and head out, cutting our vacation short.  Pam wouldn't hear of it.  She gave us a tour of the only open cottage she had without a renter and said we could stay there for the next two days!!!   So, that's what we did! Picked up, packed up and moved camp over the the cottage.  We were warm, dry and cozy with our own private shower!!!! It was perfect for our current situation! Then, the next day I locked my keys in my running truck.  John allowed me to go into his shop, cut some wood strips on his miter saw for wedges and loaned me an already straightened out coat hanger.  I was able to open my truck in about 2 minutes with the help of his make shift tools!  These two host/owners were awesome.  They became our friends and by the end of our stay, it didn't feel right leaving without a firm handshake and a hug!!!  We will be back to support this campground and what all it has to offer: Pros: * Fantastic people who own it * Pool for the kids * Playground for the kids * Large sites * Water and electric * Hot Showers * Right next to town (Clayton) * Public boat launch close by * Great base to go and explore the 1000 Islands * Friendly fellow campers/seasonal campers * Lots of space to keep my trailer/boat onsite. * Very reasonably priced * Clean - Owners active everyday * We had a great time

Sectioned off nicely. Cardio machines are on the left side of the room. In the middle are the weight machines. On the right side are the squat racks, benches, and dumb bells. 2. The fitness room has soft flooring. Great if you want to skip in bare feet or hit some pads with a friend. 3. Has an area to do Olympics lifts. It's small but away from other machines. Cons: 1. The weights are pretty dirty. 2. No swimming pool. I usually went there in the morning. The racks and weights were free for the most part. I waited a couple of times for the machines. Lots of older people work out in the morning.
