We were a group of eight tent campers and required a site that could accommodate two large tents and had electricity. I also needed a place that could accommodate my pickup truck along with a 30 foot trailer which was hauling our boat. Upon arrival at Riverside Acres I've met John, one of the owners.  He got me signed in pretty quickly and then guided/led us directly to where our site was because it was dark. We were able to park my truck and boat right on the same site as where we were camping.  The site #49 was huge and had water and electric. The next morning we met, Pam the other owner. She was out making her rounds, cleaning the restrooms and making sure all the campers had everything they needed.  We had a very pleasant conversation and we learned that these two (John & Pam) recently purchased this Campground just a few short years ago. They are making upgrades to the property as time and budget allows.    1. They have an area for seasonal RV's and campers which is pretty well established. Many of these sites the seasonal renters have built on patio, porches, decks, screen rooms Etc.  It's a cozy little environment and the seasonal folks that I met were very kind to us transient Tent campers.  2.  The general area for RV's and tents is off to the right of the seasonal area.  Here you will find a few sites against a wall of trees toward the back of the campground that offers some seclusion/shade. Looking back towards the front of campgrounds and now to the left is the rest of the area.  These open sites run along the high ground which overlooks a HUGE open field that is well maintained. Site #49 on this side is the only site with a large pine tree.  3. Cottages!  This property also offers cottages on the front of the property along the main road.  Now, these cottages are fairly dated but the owners have done some nice things to give them an updated feel, while maintaining the originality/nostalgia value here.  For example, the cottages have antique looking Kitchenette type stoves that are probably worth some money to those who are into the classic pieces.   I know I told you we were tent camping, but we ended up staying in a cottage after a nasty storm rolled through at 2 AM and very quickly displaced us.  About the epic storm... out of nowhere in the middle of the night, the thunder and fierce lightning came in, bring with it, hail and a torrential downpour. Our tents were no match for the excessively high wind gusts which leveled our tents and allowed for a foot of water to cover the bottom of the floor within just a few short minutes. We scrambled to get ourselves and children out of the colapsed tent and into our nearby vehicle for shelter. I went back out into the storm to salvage our children's Electronics and some other necessities out of the collapsed tent. It was then I Heard a Voice calling for us to seek shelter in the main Campground building. As I looked over my shoulder in the down pouring rain and complete darkness it was then I was able to see in the crackling flashes of lightning, Pam!!!!!   Pam had ventured out in the nasty storm to make sure her guest were okay and knew where to seek shelter.  So, us and the other fellow tent campers that evening took up refuge in the game room. Pam was fantastic!  She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed to at least be comfortable and safe for the night.  The next day it was time to clean up our site and see what we could salvage.  After the toll this storm took on our tents, canopy and everything else, we decided it best to pack it up and head out, cutting our vacation short.  Pam wouldn't hear of it.  She gave us a tour of the only open cottage she had without a renter and said we could stay there for the next two days!!!   So, that's what we did! Picked up, packed up and moved camp over the the cottage.  We were warm, dry and cozy with our own private shower!!!! It was perfect for our current situation! Then, the next day I locked my keys in my running truck.  John allowed me to go into his shop, cut some wood strips on his miter saw for wedges and loaned me an already straightened out coat hanger.  I was able to open my truck in about 2 minutes with the help of his make shift tools!  These two host/owners were awesome.  They became our friends and by the end of our stay, it didn't feel right leaving without a firm handshake and a hug!!!  We will be back to support this campground and what all it has to offer: Pros: * Fantastic people who own it * Pool for the kids * Playground for the kids * Large sites * Water and electric * Hot Showers * Right next to town (Clayton) * Public boat launch close by * Great base to go and explore the 1000 Islands * Friendly fellow campers/seasonal campers * Lots of space to keep my trailer/boat onsite. * Very reasonably priced * Clean - Owners active everyday * We had a great time read more

We have camped all over New York State and have never had a bad experience until we tried Riverside Acres. One of the owners, Pam, asked that we call her when 5 minutes out. We did and wait until 10 minutes for her as she stopped to yell at other campers while on her golf cart. After tersely telling us her rules - including a 5 mph speed limit, which we felt was reasonable- she led us to our campsite. As I was driving 5 mph- we lost Pam who was indeed breaking this rule on her golf cart. The Campgrounds amenities were less than stellar. There was a dusty, dimly light game room that appeared to have not been touched in decades. The bathrooms floors were dirty. The coin operated 4 minute showers was something that I will never forget. The pool was very nice but we were told that we could only use it if there were two adults in there at all times. Our "campsite" was in the middle of an open field with other campers. There was no septic hook ups which we knew about in advance. I had to leave with our son for a few days. My wife and daughter stayed behind. That night, lights flickered in our camper and our AC went off and circuits were popping. My wife called for help and Pam's husband, John, showed. Up. He rudely accused of having a poorly wired camper- our 5th wheel was a new 2025- only on our second trip. He also rudely told her that she shouldn't have requested a 30 amp. She emphatically denied as she knows our 40 foot camper runs on a 50 amp. This was requested multiple times with as we had previously made our reservation over the phone. Pam admitted that it was her mistake and she also admitted to moving our site. John pointed out that no other campsite would help people in "the middle of the night".... It was only 9:15 PM at the end of June! We have been at Swan Bay as well as several KOA s in New York State, and had wonderful pleasant people help us well after his "middle of the night" time. John continued to insist as he yelled inches from my wife's face (witnessed by my daughter and reported by my wife) that our RV was wired wrong and he boasted that he had a degree in electrical engineering from Penn State. He stated that he knew what he was talking and that my wife needed to listen to him. My wife and I have several degrees but we both know that no degrees are needed to be kind to people. He kindly hooked a battery charger to our (labeled) Deep Cycle battery. My wife called me and said that nothing seemed to be working and I asked if the charger was on regular or derp cycle. It was regular so my wife switched it over to the correct setting. Unable to have any power, my wife and daughter, fleed early and paid for a Vrbo in the area. We had made arrangements to keep our RV there and John was nice enough to help us move it. The price for the unoccupied camper stay increased from the quoted $50 to $100 which I found out about when I arrived. It seemed reasonable at that time. Pam said that for our troubles that she would reimburse us the $100 with a check since we were taking it back home to the Finger Lakes area to have our RV dealer look it over. When I arrived for pick up - Pam indeed handed me a check - only made out for $50.00. No money was offered for the day that we had to leave. After a thorough check from our RV dealer- it was found that our camper was fine. We have enjoyed using our RV to its fullest capacities at other campgrounds the rest of this summer. Checked in at the Riverside acres campground for two nights and three days. We came up to see the Pirates weekend in Alexandria Bay New York. We couldn't of been any happier with the campground. The owners are absolutely the best. We've been camping for eight years and have put 54,000 miles on our motorhome and this camp site was the best in terms of hospitality. The owner took time to take her grandchildren around the campground on her golf cart several times. Her children fed them at the pool as they knew no boundaries. They met friends at the pool and everybody felt like family. The best part about it was the price for a night for water and electricity was at one of the lowest cost yet highest quality. It is a family campground and excessive partying and drunkenness not permitted. Game room is stocked and everything cost just a quarter. The bathrooms were the only downfall in that they charged for showers but only a quarter. We typically stay at KOAs. They had volleyball soccer balls across sticks bad mitten the sandbox with dinosaurs buried in it that you could dig up and many trailers are full time so that people know each other very well. I would recommend this to anybody that wants to stay in this area. read more

One of my favorite places to be. This is our third year in a row coming here. The only campground we have wanted to come back to every year the sites are spacious and well maintained. Bathrooms are very clean.The owners always welcome us and check in on us throughout our stay. They have a great game room. read more

The name of this campground is deceiving... it is not on the water. The "regulars" are cliquey and made my family feel unwelcome and out of place. We were there in season yet the advertised pool had not been opened yet. read more

Well this is our first time here at this camp site and I must say, I've been enjoying every minute of it!! Its a nice welcoming fun environment! Everyone here has been very friendly an the owners are absolutely AMAZING &' VERY CARING!!! Last night due to the heavy rain and thunder, our tent collapsed and it got completely soaked to the point where we can no longer sleep in it. We had to rush and get our 1 year old daughter out and try to scatter what we could! I called pam an her husband, explained our situation he then met me at the office in the rain an opened up a cottage for us!!! They made sure we were okay and had somewhere warm, safe and comfortable to lay our heads!!! Some people wouldnt even care to do that much or let alone even answer their phones. I am very happy and satisfied with riverside acres campgrounds!! I will definitely be back with my family, we really appreciate everything you've done to ensure that we were okay!! We have had our 5th wheel here for a few years now and love it. I know a lady wrote a nasty review because she didn't like being told to "slow down" when she was drive to fast in a 5 MPH speed zone . There are children here riding bikes and playing and the owners are really diligent about making sure the speed limit is followed. Even though I have no children here I think that is a great thing. I would rather they be that way then wait until a child is killed, because some lady doesn't want to follow the speed limit. She also didn't like the owner riding around on her golf cart. I for one like that she does that as I leave my RV here and she is my security to insure that no one is messing with my RV. This lady and he brat teenage kid just didn't want anyone watching what they were doing because they were up to no good most of the time. Everyone was always telling them to slow down. They did not like where their spot was and didn't like that they had to pay to empty their tanks. Welcome to the real world, you have to pay every place you camp, so get use to it. Pam and John have done a lot of upgrades to the park in the short time they have owned it and it had made a world of difference to us that stay here. If you follow the rules and do things the way you should, this is a great place for your family to stay. read more

We were passing through the area on a last minute road trip with not a lot of planning put into the trip. We were so lucky to have met Pam. She was very informative and gave great recommendations for the area. We stayed in one of the cottages which according to Pam is on the way to being updated, but was very clean and comfortable.
