At the beginning of February 2017, I started seriously searching for a new service vehicle for my business and since my business is still in the building stages, I didn't want to spend more than $12,000. So after extensive searching I came across the deal of a lifetime. Certified Affordable Cars in St Catherines had advertised a 2006 GMC Savanna 2500 extended cargo van, which was perfect for my business needs, and they were asking less than $10,000 for what looked like a near mint condition used van with 130,000 kms on it.
I purchased this van on Feb 28, 2017, paid cash, and asked that it be all ready for me to pick up on Friday March 3, 2017. After several calls back and forth between them and me on Friday March 3, 2017, I finally went the more than an hour drive to the lot and picked up my new van. I noticed a minor item right away that they had promised to fix and the neglected to do so, but I did mention this again to them. Fast forward to March 15, 2017, 2 weeks after buying this van, I am out providing a service call for one of my clients using this same van and the rear drivers side cargo door falls of the hinges. I immediately have my mechanic look at it and he says the bottom hinge was sheered off, and he asked me how does this pass a safety inspection, it was obviously like that for some time. So I call Certified Affordable and I ask them, which they at first didn't offer me any solution as it was '' oh, I will have to ask the technicians why and I will call you right back" . I have the record on my phone saying I called them at 1;42 on March 15, 2017. They did not call me back until the next day after I had called them, and they asked for me to drive the hour down to them so they can see for themselves. I did not want to drive there, as I still had more business calls to perform, and was hoping they could trust me and my mechanic as all I was asking them to do was cover the cost of the part to fix the issue and my mechanic would do the job ( after all a certain amount of trust was gone since they missed this during the safety inspection). They have been giving me the run around with excuses like we need the owners permission to order you the part. Today is March 17, and finally this morning, again after a few phone calls and the threat of contacting the MTO and filing a complaint, did I get an answer. We have ordered the part it will be here Tuesday, you can come pick it up. I agreed to come get the part, even though they could have shipped it to my mechanic, I hope both parts, the missing part I mentioned at first and this new part are there when I get there. The complaint is still going through to the MTO, because how else am I to be confident the rest of the van is safe if doors are falling off, 2 weeks after the safety inspection from this dealer. They really need a big lesson in how to treat customer well, and an investigation by the MTO should work in favor of their customers in the future. As for me they have caused a lot of extra undue stress to an already stressed business owner within the GTA. read more
