Very interesting experience overall, wouldn't recommend. First good point: we had a reservation but were thirty minutes early and they were able to seat us immediately. Two meals were incredible, two meals were awful. Incredible: fish of the day and pork cheeks. Awful: tenderloin Trindade (cold, undercooked, chewy, much waste), meat croquette (like deep fried baby food, little taste, tomato rice tastes good but was watery). Ambiance: it was noisy! They struggled to take cash and we felt like we were in a shell game with all the back and forth. Eventually we accepted being short changed by a couple of euro just to get out. read more

Cervejaria Trindade for dinner because nothing says holy like garlic shrimp in a 13th-century monastery. Yep, this used to be a convent before it was converted into the most divine brewery in Lisbon (blame the 1755 earthquake for the career change). The tile work is essentially a Renaissance Instagram filter. We ordered octopus and bean salad because we're fancy like that, and garlic shrimp because obviously. Both were delicious. The services wasn't the best, but in fairness our waiter spoke very little English (unusual) and was very busy. He definitely was not neglectful. We came here while listening to Rick Steve's walking tour and even though he acknowledged that Cervejaria Trindade was a touristy spot and over-priced, we were very satisfied with our experience. First of all, it is a really big space with some interesting tiles and a cool history (it used to be a monastery, then became a brewery/Lisbon's first beer hall). We got some beers which were pretty standard, and the cockles appetizer, which was AMAZING. This was my first time eating cockles but my friend and I loved it! We actually tried some cockles at a different restaurant later that day for dinner, but those just didn't hit right.. Cervejaria Trindade's were definitely more fresh and overall made better. It did take a while to get served even though we were sitting right at the bar, but our bartender/server was really nice. It also didn't look like everyone there was a tourist, so there must be enough of a draw (maybe the fresh seafood?) for local people to also come. I know if I lived in Lisbon, I would go back again and again. read more

The staff was very friendly and polite, even they seemed to be in training they did a good job. Minor improvements for getting everyone drinks at the same time could be done Food: Fish soup (5 stars) is a must! Likely the best soup I ever had, very rich in flavour and how much sea food there is. There were around 6 large shrimp in there. Trinidad platter(4.5 stars): half a star only to say how great the fish soup was. Comes with a whole crab, the crab dip is amazing. Goose Barnacles was something I never tried before, great taste. Be aware they squirt a lot. The whole room is an a German beer hall, lots of light and has a lot of space. I would still recommend making reservations. read more

A larger than life Cervejaria that is like a church for seafood lovers. Cervejaria Ramiro was closed for vacation so we were recommended to try Trinidade and I am glad we did. This place is massive and well lit, it feels like entering a grand hall for a special meal. Our waiter was efficient but warm and seemed to enjoy that we were tourists. The seafood was delicious and the portions were massive. We had the seafood platter which featured the customary "dressed crab", shrimp and prawns of various sizes, goose barnacles, and 2 oysters. Everything was fresh and we could have been satiated off of this order alone. The crab meat itself was exceptional and it was fun to hammer it apart. We also ordered a scarlet prawn which was magnificent I would come back just for that. The veal croquette was skippable and the tenderloin pica pau a Trinidade was not my favorite (it was cubed steak in a very salty sauce). In short order seafood skip meat. Overall I am surprised by the lukewarm reviews on yelp thus far and would definitely have this place on my radar if you are looking for a Cervejaria experience that highlights seafood. Sure there are likely cheaper alternatives but it was a pretty cool experience! read more

I felt obligated to visit the oldest beer hall in Lisboa. Who wouldn't want to check out a convent-turned-beer factory? That's such an interesting piece of history. After a hot day of walking, I stopped here for a cold beer and really enjoyed the Bohemia Original. It was light, refreshing, and with a little hint of fruit flavor. If I could hold more alcohol, I would want to try some of their other brews. I did not order any food so cannot comment on the food. read more

We stumbled across this restaurant on our first night in Lisbon after walking from the Baixa to Chiado area of the city. It was a great first meal! I would recommend making a reservation if you can because we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for two and the restaurant was pretty full inside. The food was delicious and the servers were friendly enough to us as American tourists. The restaurant itself is beautiful as it used to be a monastery. Local friends brought us to this place. What a treat and a wonderful experience. Ambience is somewhat classy. Great big room and also a very inviting patio. Building used to be a monastery but it's been modernized. Service was cordial. Greeter very attentive. Our table was ready even 20 minutes before our reservation. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, service was fast and without cutting off our lively chat. On to the food. Bacalao croquettes were very tasty. The main dish was top sirloin with fried egg and patatas frites. Excellent dish. Beef was cooked at term ('medio mal' is medium rare) and with a delicious sauce w dijon. Most reviews cover their seafood but we went with our friends recommendation and had beef. Boquerones were also very tasty. We had vino verde for the first time here and it paired well. Great place to go to just for the history, an old monastery. This can be a very busy place, so either get a reservation or be prepared to wait. The beer there is awesome. I felt the house cerveja was very much a Belgian taste, which I prefer. Very good. We had the fish of the day. Very good. We also had the beef cheeks which was served in a pot with potatoes and tiny diced sweet potatoes in a wonderful broth that I wanted to bathe in. Absolutely wonderful. I couldn't get an enough it. Our only negative thing to say is we frequently had to go chase down someone to help us for another drink or any kind of service or check. Really cool historic spot near the Rossio station. The restaurant/beer hall is located in an old monastery so it retained some of the stained glass, tiles and high curved ceilings. The service was fast and friendly as well. I ordered once of their beers which was excellent. The menu has a mix of the traditional Portuguese dishes like fish stew, cod, clams, octopus, pork, etc and then also tons of seafood by the pound. I wish they had a bit more prepared seafood dishes. I ended up having the seafood stew cause I was not that hungry. I was not really sure what to expect but it was a bit bland and did not have that much fish or vegetables. It's a popular restaurant that fills up quickly. Luckily, since we had an early dinner, and the Portuguese like to dine late, we had no problem snagging a table. The restaurant itself is stunning. High ceilings and beautiful artwork give you a sense of the ambiance. Even the waiters are dressed like members of the cloth. Since the restaurant is also a brewery, I obviously tried one of their beers. They make four or so beers in-house. For my main dish, I had the house special steak which is served with a fried egg in a house-made sauce made of beer and other ingredients. My steak was served with fries. While the restaurant itself is spectacular, I wasn't impressed with the food. The steak was of poor quality and the fries were below average. As a lover of fries, it's not easy to mess them up for me. The food was a letdown but I did appreciate the history of this restaurant. read more

This restaurant occupies a space that was formerly a convent. The original building was built in 1294 and subsequently destroyed by fire and earthquake. In 1836, the first beer factory in Portugal was built here, and today the outdoor patio area is where the cloister used to be. While the location has a bit of colorful history, and the dining room quite spectacular with all the tiles, beer is no longer brewed here and they just offer run-of-the-mill Sagres. While beer fans may be disappointed, average diners should not be. They have a nice menu, an extensive section for seafood which can be pricy, but other dishes, whimsically named after a monastery theme, is pretty reasonable at 15-25 Euros each. As with most Portuguese restaurant, when you sit down they bring you some bread and cheese. If you touch them you pay for it. If you don't, they'll whisk it away after a while (to serve at the next table?... the idea makes me a bit uneasy... but I'm pretty sure the food wasn't just thrown out.) Best part about this restaurant: It's open daily 10am - 1:30am. Great for Americans like me who don't expect restaurants to be closed on Sundays! read more

Nice restaurant that is built in a space formerly occupied by a convent. The location is actually pretty nice and the rooms are interesting and ancient. In spite of name, this is not a brewery, and beer selection is limited. Food is quite good and tasty to compensate. There's a wide selection of fish dishes, plus some meats. The starter of octopus was excellent, and also the rice with seafood was good (even if it was in a broth, which I wasn't expecting). Sweets are nice. My husband and I dined here last night and I can't say that I'd recommend it. When we were leaving the restaurant I mentioned that I thought the restaurant was an experience place, not a food place... Until I projectile vommitted at a National Palace and spent today hopping from bathroom to bathroom with a pack of baby wipes due to how sick I was. My husband stuck it out longer and only now started having his seat glued to he porcelain throne. These, plus the nausea and fever we experienced are clear signed of food poisoning that we think likely came from the food served to us. Something seemed off the whole meal, but since we had ordered it, we tried to eat it. It's not like us to send more than half our plates back uneaten. If you must come here, I implore you to stick to drinks only! read more

I thought this was a brewery (wrong--they don't make their own beer, nor do they have most of the varieties listed on the menu) and I thought it would have a historic vibe thanks to the monastery it once was (also wrong--the servers walk around in robes like you're at Disney World, though). So touristy, and if the food had been good, maybe we would have given it a bit of a pass, but the food was awful--and half of us didn't even get what we ordered. of all the places in Lisbon, this should be LAST on your list; only if an apocalyptic disaster came and wiped out the rest of the city should you eat here, and even then, I might suggest starting instead. read more

The Cervejaria Trindade is amazing... The Cerveja is authentic from age old monastic traditions... the Pica-Pau is the best I tasted in Portugal (it is beef and normally I would prefer pork). The servers and workers speak only Portuguesas and are kind of withdrawn like monks (maybe they are?) and this causes the place to be only moderately appreciated... I saw literally dozens of small groups wander in and wander out unsure if it was open for business... they could use a warm greeter and the place would be packed!! No doubt in the summer this can be a bit of a tourist trap, but on a quiet February lunchtime, it was mostly local business people. The dining room is a spectacular vaulted and tiled room, a conversion from a Franciscan priory. We had the Holy Week menu, which was delicious and generous. Codfish a la St Bras was a superb concoction of cod, scrambled eggs, and roosti. The torta azeitao Convento da Arrabida was a nutty cake with the best lemon sorbet I have ever tasted. Bill for two, 30 euros. Service was fine. There is also a bar, and an outside area for summer. Resist the 'offerings' they bring they are charged extra if you have them. read more
