Our server, who I suspect is also the owner, was so friendly and kind! He gave great recommendations and was just fun to talk to. The drinks and food did not disappoint. Highly recommend getting the bon bons as a starter, followed with the pork, and then end with the chocolate dessert. The steak plate and wine selection were also perfect. Came here for my anniversary dinner, could not have been more satisfied. The food was impeccably plated and flavorful, while not making me feel heavy afterwards. The wine pairings were great too. I really liked the French bistro style restaurant of the place, small, quaint, intimate. I do agree with some of the other reviews that the place is a bit smoky and could use a better hood. We were right by the kitchen, so could have been the issue. We did the tasting menu and it was very reasonably priced for a tasting menu, but then it came out and you had to share every dish including soup which I thought was a little odd. Some items were shareable while some items I felt were strange to share for example a salad. My opinion would be to make smaller portions vs sharing. I was with my husband, so not a big deal, we just thought if it were a first date we would not recommend the tasting menu. Great wines and I would definitely go back for a nibble and wine. Service was good mainly because we were the first people in. I saw them turning many people away. If you come be prepared it is more an experience and grazing vs a quick bite. read more

We have been satisfied customers since 2018 and have dined in and COVID take away more than a dozen times. Jon and his crew has never disappointed. Yes there have been highs and lows with the lows never derailing. This small classic French Bistro accommodates 22 per seating on a packed night. Reservations are a must. Tonight there three parties who were repeat customers think they can show up on a Friday at 7pm and expect there are open seats. We were fortunate to benefit from a new menu that consistently plays on classic French bistro faire based on fresh and seasonal ingredient's. Love to find the comforts of a classic baguette, pate, fresh greens and flavorful entree offerings. The wine list changes weekly and I would recommend allowing John to pair your wines with your order. We settled on Baguette, Fresh Greens, Scallops, salmon and friendly banter with staff. My top recommendation for Portland! Every time my family comes to town they ask to book reservations as soon as they book their flights. The owner John puts so much care into his restaurant and provides a welcoming environment. Chef always puts out the best food and I'm always in awe of what he creates as a 1 man team in such a small space. Very interesting international wines on the menu and fun cocktails. In true European style, this dining experience usually lasts a couple of hours. So be prepared to sit and enjoy your food and your company. The cheese bon bons are a must have!! Had a very intimate New Year's Eve dinner here and would recommend this restaurant over and over again. I felt like I had stepped into a small restaurant in France. The seating is small and intimate and the chef cooking can be seen by the diners. (I love le pigeon and have had many dinners there but this was much more intimate of an ambience) We had a bottle of wine recommended by the owner (who also was serving on a holiday night), we started with oysters on the half shell, a beet salad, cheese bon bons (a delicious pastry filled with cheese), and for the main course we had prime rib and mussels. We finished with a chocolate mousse. The meal was absolutely magical. So happy we spent our last dinner of 2021 here. Also the owner is so kind and personable and made our night truly memorable. Why is this place so perfect? Before i walked in I looked at the front and was like this place is tiny! But it was tiny and cute and intimate! I love everything about this place from the food to the service! We had reservations and had the whole part of the bar to ourself! The owner i believe was so about his menu and knew every little thing about it and i loved it! I literally got excited about the dishes we ordered as he spoke! All the food was soooooo gooooood! Even tho we didn't order the crepes we could see him making them in front of us! He was also very generous and let us try his favorite wine! This has been the most exquisite meal we've had in quite some time!! Unique warm and beautiful interior and extremely delicious menu items on top of it all. The service is absolutely exceptional. A full house with one server and the chef and we felt well tended to. It's Wife N's birthday this week (and our 29th "dating" anniversary), and we decided to make it a special Friday night and head out to a place we hadn't yet tried, C'est Si Bon in inner NE Portland. Arriving for our 8:00 reservation, the place appeared pretty packed. The general look of the place meets what I would call a "hole in the wall"--seating for perhaps 30-40 total if packed in like sardines, this may not be a place for extreme introverts or those who have anti-social tendencies. Spacing is "intimate" and cozy. That all said, we were seated at our table near the door and presented with the menus. The menu reads like a fine list of French-inspired dishes and wine pairings and everything on it looked amazing. We really truly wanted to order every item on the menu, it all looked that good. But alas, while the spirit was willing, the wallet was weak, and we forced ourselves to narrow our selections to what would be considered a reasonable amount of food for two. Owner John came by and personally took our orders and explained each dish to us as we ordered it. We told him we intended to share everything, and he immediately worked out a course where each dish (prior to the mains) was timed and brought separately so we could enjoy them in succession. Starting off, we had the fois gras. We're both total suckers for a good fois gras, and this one most definitely did not disappoint. Served alongside a heavenly balsamic strawberry and anise compote with just a few micro-greens for color and a few toast points, this was total lick-the-plate goodness. That strawberry went so perfectly with the fois gras! On to our second app, the Crispy Savoyard Cheese Bonbons. Absolutely everything you'd want in a lovely, gooey pouch of cheese wrapped in filo dough and baked perfectly and crisp on the outside, served with a lightly dressed arugula salad. Sitting on a subtle and decorative drizzle of honey, this dish was absolutely mouthwatering. On to the mains. Wife N ordered the Duck Leg Confit with Polenta, Spinach, Fig and a Port Wine reduction. Normally I'm a protein-guy, but the Gnocchi de Ricotta with Prosciutto, Chanterrelle, Asparagus and Pea caught my fancy, so that's what I went with. The duck arrived flawlessly cooked. Very tough to get a perfectly crisp skin while also having a perfect cook in the meat. Chef nailed it. Our only complaint on the entire evening (really, a nitpick at this point) is we both felt the polenta went well with the duck, but on its own really needed some seasoning as it was pretty bland. But again, total nitpick here. My gnocchi was a fantastically composed and beautiful plate. Green and herbaceous, it was adorned with mild prosciutto and lovely chanterelles, asparagus cooked perfectly, and these lovely, delicate strips of pickled onion (shallot?). One bite I had even had a burst of lemon zest in it that was almost a religious experience in itself--I tried to find more zest on the plate but failed--wish there had been more on there. Both mains were near-flawless. I've never been much of a dessert guy, so I opted to just take a bite of the Meyer Lemon Creme Crepe with Raspberry Coulis that Wife N ordered. Just as expected at this point, it was beautifully done, bursting forth with the immense flavors of lemon and raspberry. Just the perfect bright and sweet finish to the evening. The owner himself was supervising the house along with our hostess/server, and the open kitchen had--wait for it--ONE chef in there putting together every single dish. I'm a (self-proclaimed) excellent home cook. But in no way ever could I successfully produce meals for 40 people with the rhythm and perfection that this one expert managed. I watched through our meal as new people walked in the door and the owner seemed to know everyone. It's clear this is a place people come back to time and time again. Everything about this place was excellent. Pricing, honestly, was a bit low for the quality of the food we ate. Would we return? Oh, yeah, in a heartbeat. First, the ambiance is really lovely - small, cozy, quaint. We happened to have our reservation on an evening when there was only one person running the show - I think it was the owner, so service was very slow, however polite. We tasted some nice wines, about $15 a glass, and were given at least one glass each that was not billed. The problem is the food was bad. One dish raised up to mediocre, but otherwise dry, poorly cooked, boring food. Even the fois gras was poorly cooked a little fried crisp in its puff cup. Worst confit Ive ever had in my life- a dry duck quarter that seemed like it was frozen and reheated in an air fryer. How does duck confit end up dry? Recommend as a place to have some wine. Otherwise avoid until they get a chef. read more

We were celebrating a birthday and ordered from the Prefix menu, did the wine pairings...Our reservation was for 7pm and it took us nearly 3 hours to get through all of our meal because of poor service. I admit to being impatient at times but I think this was an unreasonable amount and I'm glad we didn't have any other plans after. By hour 2 I was considering just squaring up the tab where we were and going home. They seemed short- staffed (I saw a total of 3 people working) but I also don't think the place could have accommodated more staff because it was so tiny. What's worse is when the food did come out I found it all to be incredibly bland. read more

I was going between this place and another of my food itinerary, and I am still not sure if I made the right choice. The place itself is very tiny, but also cute. We ordered a cheese bonbon, fish and steak dish. The cheese bonbon was pretty good and the star of the three items. My steak was cooked correctly, but was lacking in flavor. The same with my friends dish. Salt could have gone a long way. For dessert we chose the mousse but it too was a little underwhelming in richness. After while being such a small space, it started to fill up with smoke from the kitchen to the point my eyes started burning. Overall the service was decent, but I got a vibe that regulars might be treated a bit differently. Not great, far from bad. I think it will be a one stop for me based on cost vs. portion and the space. read more

A colleague and I went to this restaurant. He had heard that it was great, so we decided to check it out. We order two appetizers, the cheese bon bon and the cauliflower. The bon bons were okay but they were served with a small salad with the most delicious dressing. The cauliflower was cooked perfectly. For my entree, I had the pork dish paired with the house pinot noir. I am not usually a huge fan of pork, but it was delicious. The restaurant was a little difficult to find, In addition, the restaurant was small and the menu was limited. That's why I ordered the pork. I normally would not but there was only like 5 main entrees offered. I was happy I made the choice. Finally the dessert was a raspberry crumble. This was out of this world. This little place just popped onto the Portland crêpe scene, and it is a very nice addition! I suppose they've been around in the farmer's market circle for awhile, but this is their first brick and mortar. Really nice people in a great French setup! The place is pretty small, with about 4 tables, a counter by the window, and some bar seats, but it felt cozy and not cramped. For the quality that you get, everything is so well priced. Even their wine by the glass is very affordable. The owner helped me pair my turkey crêpe with the Cahores red, and not only did it go perfectly well with my crêpe, but it came out to be only $5.50. A great pairing like that is always a win in my book. Sometimes when I ask for help with wine pairings, I get a good pairing that also happens to be one of the more expensive glasses. I really appreciate that thoughtfulness and consideration from the owner! I got the turkey crêpe, with sliced turkey, a cranberry and apple relish, and cheddar cheese. It brought me back to the joys of a good Thanksgiving meal. The sweet complemented the savory, and the crêpe itself was evenly cooked and airy. My friend got the pork confit crêpe with slow roasted pork, apple butter, caramelized onions and sage. The pork was very tender and it balanced well with the buckwheat crêpe. We ended our lovely meal with the hazelnut chocolate and banana crêpe. You could tell the "nutella" was homemade because it was still a bit gritty - I loved it. Not an overly sweet dessert so you don't feel bad indulging a little. I'll surely return to this little treat of a restaurant. House wine was very nice, hubby ordered the duck confit and I had the salmon with pesto on a bed of orzo. Both dishes were delicious and nice portion sizes. Glass of Porto and dessert crepe, yum. $100 wine, meals, dessert, coffee (suggest skipping coffee and having a nice port instead). Expect to take your sweet time here.
