This was one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had. The new location is in an old house, with a small dining room seating 12 people. After being greeted and seated by Rose, we received an aperitif wine. Then the first course, Gougere filled with duck liver mousse - fantastic! Then Mini cassoulet, filled with fabulous flavor. Followed by Consommé with chicken quenelle - wonderful! Next was 69 Yolk Tagliatelle with rabbit ragu - unbelievably tender and flavorful. Then Duck breast with butter braised broccoli and celeriac puree. It was delicious, but we were starting to feel very full by then! Dessert was almond cake with homemade ice cream - somehow we squeezed it in! The wine pairings were great! They put a lot of effort into finding really good wines with interesting backstories. George described each course as they served it, and Rose was the perfect hostess. The courses are spread out nicely, so plan to spend 2-3 hours in the very cozy setting. Fantastic Dining!! Coq au Vin is an amazing experience. And I do mean experience. As restaurants go is unlike any l have been to in PDX. I liken it the small European restaurants that are like eating in someone's home. It is small an intimate which truly enhances both the food and experience. The food is outstanding. One of the best meals I have had in the Pacific NW. Each course was flavorful and each dish stood out with different flavors and textures. The presentation was beautiful, yet simple. Our dinner was meat centric (duck (which love), pork, and chicken). The menu rotates both seasonally and based on what is available. You will find it online when you book your reservation. Owners/Chef Rose and George take great care of their guests, from the plate they use and the food that is presented. I will note that the pasta was THE best I have had. In addition, the wine pairings were incredible and spot on for enhancing each dish. This dining experience is a must. Be prepared to spend 2-3 hours engaging with Rose and the stories that are part of their evolution in both farming and cooking. Sit back, relax, eat, drink and enjoy!!! We will return. read more

This dining experience was sensational. The small dining room with space between tables provided a quiet atmosphere, conducive to good conversation. The service by Rose was excellent---she explained each dish, answered questions with ease, was always available but never in the way. The food was exceptional---unique, tasty and right-sized. Rose's husband does the cooking and made a few stops at our table. The wines were matched to the food, and all were good. Simply phenomenal. Every dish was close your eyes and forget about the rest of the world delicious. If you're looking for a fast, cheap, oversized meal, this isn't your place. But the prices are appropriate for the quality of the ingredients and artistry of the cooking. Family owned and operated farm to table restaurant features a Country French Menu. The husband and wife team raise the animals and grow the greens featured and concise well planned offering that can be enjoyed both price fix or a la carte. Home made pasta is made to order and featured in six core second course offerings. Service is attentive but plan on a leisurely meal as the total staff is five or less depending on the night. We had a broad sampling of European sized plates that included Cassoulet and Coq Au Vin. The jewel is the butcher shop that enables you to purchase cured meats, cheeses as well as whole cuts of standard meats. Return visit was a repeat. Went with the Chefs Menu and wine pairing. Not a disappointment. Again be prepared for a leisurely European dining timeline. read more

Fantastic experience and wonderful food. Top 5 of all the restaurants we've enjoyed since moving to Portland a few years ago. We had the 5 course meal with the wine pairing. The pork pate with pickle was kind of a fun very upscale version of a hamburger. Asparagus tart was light and fluffy. The salad had a great texture with lots of fresh spring touches. The 69 yolk pappardelle with bolognese was delicious and the coq au vin to finish was complex with a great wine pairing from the same region as the sauce. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the service was almost like being at a friends' house but with really nice, unique wines and delicious food. I can't believe this place only has 4 stars. Someone is wrong. I can't find enough adjectives but you should go and you won't forget it! read more

Would you like to be invited to dinner at the home of a Michelin-star chef? You'll be served on his kitchen table, his kids will be underfoot (in the best way), the ingredients will come from his farm and garden? All the food and wine will be served by the charming spouse? Then this is the place for you. Do you want your French cuisine served by starched-shirt waiters on silver trays in a hushed atmosphere? Then this is not for you. We had a lovely evening of a five-course meal (with a bonus course and an amuse-bouche) with wine pairings, and loved every minute. The bonus course, a fat pasta dumpling of fresh wild salmon, was outstanding, as was the main course, a duck breast with fresh corn. This is not factory dining. The restaurant seats 12-14 people at 5-6 tables, and serves as the family's home. Expect to meet their young children (delightful!). Nothing (except the food and wine and joy) is fancy. Many (most?) of the ingredients here are sourced from their own farm, or from other local places. This is the cuisine of the PNW terroir with a French inflection. I do not usually review restaurants and waited a day after leaving to make sure I still wanted to do it. Simply the worst restaurant experience I've had in PDX in 15 years. The food was fine. Not amazing, Not bad. But way over priced for very small portions. More importantly, it took over 2 hrs to get our entrees I don't mind a slow pace, but it was absurd. There was only one waiter for all of the tables so I'm sure this was part of the slow service. I appreciate what they are trying to do with a farm to table vibe with fresh ingredients and it shows in the food. Unfortunately, I don't think the owners have much experience running a restaurant in a city. read more

We finally have a proper French restaurant. I hope they're able to scale what is a totally bare bones staff right now. At one point a baby was in the kitchen. I may actually bring my kids here it felt so homey and family founded. I'm not sure what it would look like with thirty covers. The pastas were amazing as were all the wine pairing we got recommended. Highly recommend checking out their oxidative wine section if you're up for an adventure. Service was personal and earnest. They brought out soft boiled eggs still in the shell so you could pick which one went on your Lyonnaise. Will return! read more

Five of us ate here and we all agreed, never again. Although the food tasted fine, the prices are not in balance with the portions. We prefer small portions, but when for example, a small bowl of tomato soup costs $18.00, something is out of whack. They have an espresso machine, but we were told it is not for customers. The desserts consisted of gelato or sorbet, nothing else. The service was poor and the space has a warehouse feel. read more

I didn't get a chance to eat here, but had our Valentine's Day reservations completely ruined 10 days before. They sent an email saying they changed the menu to a fixed tasting menu and changed the time of our reservation. With tip and paired wine, would have come to exactly $500 for 2. Not what they advertised when we carefully made our reservation weeks ago. Try making a decent Valentine's reservation a little over a week to the big day. Pretty crappy customer service. They could have planned and advertised this a month ago vs sending an email saying everything has changed and they hope all would understand. read more

I was excited about going to this restaurant. I thought the food was very good but small portions at prices of between 40 and 50 for an entree. I believe they even charged for bread and butter which seemed outrageous on top of the prices. The service was not good as they were short staffed, but seems intentional as they don't want pay for more staff. They kept telling everyone thanks for being patient we are understaffed. I was charged 75 dollars for three glasses of wine which tasted like cheap house wine. A simple salad for almost 20, and the salad was so small it seemed like a joke. I left enjoying the food but feeling like I was completely ripped off. Buyer beware! This is not NYC this is Portland. Also, I got tired of hearing their baby crying and shopping their baby around for help, and support. I thought this wasn't cute, and, inappropriate for the baby. If you've eaten in France, you know your meal is not rushed. You also expect your meal to be carefully prepared with the best ingredients. That's what Coq au Vin achieves. Every course was delicious. They greeted you with an aperitif. The service was warm and friendly. The cassoulet was perfect. The wine selection was well paired. if you want to be transported to a magical non-American dining experience in a city or town much cooler than here. then this is your place. the food is outstanding, the atmosphere is charming in a rustic industrial way-twinkle lights, the concrete floor slopes downhill a bit-but it's wonderful. it's warmer and quieter than you'd think. given the space, and the "the entire family of owners are involved in and out of the kitchen. The salads, pates, pastas and cassoulets were delicious. everything is fresh and carefully prepared. I cant wait to go back! read more

If you miss Bistro Agnes (RIP), then Coq au Vin is like meeting the Bistro's French mother from the countryside. A little more rustic, more village square than Champs Elysées, but oh so good. We plan on returning at least once a season - they are ALL about what just got harvested - but their current menu was perfect for a rainy November Portland night. The veloute, the Coq au Vin pasta, the pork cutlet, and the cassoulet, all were plated simply, but prepared so well. And everyone there was sweet, and happy to have us there! We skipped dessert, but brought home several pates from the Magic Meat Truck outside (the story of how they ended up in their location is one worth hearing). Thank you to everyone there! This is the second time we had dinner here. The prices are on the higher end but the quality of the food is so much higher than other restaurants in the area. I also love that the tips are included and they don't ask for more. It definitely has the most European feel of any restaurant I've been to in Portland. I don't know where to start because there are so many noteworthy things to mention about this restaurant. The space is very warm and inviting with a good mix of rustic French countryside and eclectic Portland vibes. The guitars on the wall and the cool blues playing overhead were a perfect compliment to the overall atmosphere. The husband and wife team managed to be attentive to guests while also enjoying some sweet moments with their kids who were entertaining themselves nearby. The pace always felt relaxed and it was fun getting to learn about their farm and their family while dining on some absolutely delicious food. We had their fixed menu with a variety of meat and vegetable dishes all with absolutely perfect wine pairings. The bonus was the meat truck located just inside the restaurant where we ordered some salami diablo to take with us for later. This was one of the nicest overall dining experiences I've had in a long time. read more
