I have a strong preference for donut hut but they are closed on Monday so we came here instead. The kids each got a frosted donut and they were great. I got maple long john which is usually my fav but was a little let down I felt like the frosting was a little thin and bland. My husband got a mystery say old donut box. It had a couple chocolate cake donuts and a couple glazed in it. It was fun for him. Good little bakery! Their donuts are pretty solid. I got the chorizo and pepper quiche and it was great! Was one of those things that is very comforting for your stomach if that makes sense haha. They also made a king cake and we're giving out some free slices which was a really fun surprise! I wasn't expecting too much just cuz it was free but it was really enjoyable!! What a cute place! It's my 1st time being there since we live on the west side. But this is a great bakery and donut place! The cakes on display are extravagant and gorgeous. We got a classics glazed, chocolate covered, and apple turnover, and their pink frosted sprinkled fluff filled donut too! The donuts are the classic fried donuts! Not cake. So it's soft, fluffy, and is just the right amount of sweetness. The fluff filled donut was even more surprising because with the amount of frosting, sprinkles, AND fluff it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet! I recently visited Cha Cha's Hiland Bakery for the purpose of buying cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. I have had their champagne cakes in the past (before becoming Cha Cha's) and they were always delicious. Sadly, our most recent visit fell short of expectations and I won't be back. We visited the bakery on a Wednesday afternoon around 2pm. Upon entering, we were not greeted by staff at all. There was also visible signs of remodeling, including an open paint can just sitting in the middle of the floor without a sign or warning. A man was working behind the counter, and I asked him about having any premade cakes. Although he had not greeted us yet, he replied "no". I asked if the cupcakes in the case were all that was left and he replied "yes". It was clearly a huge hassle to him to wait on us. Not helpful, not even so much as a smile. I really felt like an inconvenience for visiting this bakery. We selected 9 cupcakes consisting of some champagne and some "bomb pop". The cupcakes were extremely dry. You could not tell by looking at the case, but they were not fresh. The frosting was wayy too sugary and not good. In hind sight, it was almost a week after the Fourth of July, and the cupcakes were red, white and blue. I should have assumed they were made for the fourth and were old and not good, but I didn't expect that from this bakery. I reached out on Facebook to let the establishment know of the disappointment with the quality of the cupcakes and the service. Initially they seemed helpful, asking if I knew who waited on me. I responded that I did not know his name, but provided information about the time of my visit, etc. This was the last communication I received from them. No apology or anything. No response after that. It has been almost a month since I sent the message, so there has been ample time. I won't be back, not only because the cupcakes were not good, but most importantly because of the way I was treated by the employees, including the manager responding to my messages. I can understand an off-day, but the lack of customer service by both the employee and then management has told me all I need to know about this business. read more

I wish it was in a different location. I don't know what kind of sorcery they used to get that layer of sugary goodness in there but I am grateful they have dabbled in the dark arts. And the coffee?! I am a literal fiend for the cocoa bean & this baby is one of the best iced lattes I have ever had. Right off Euclid and 6th, a short a drive off the interstate for some delicious baked goods. From Dutch letters to quiche and desserts, they offer something for everyone! Small seating space so we took our donuts to go, but saw people sitting and enjoying the newspaper with their coffee and donuts. Street parking allowed easy access. Staff was friendly. To those frustrated by the line, pro tip: Send your spouse to pickup your donuts/breakfast treats and skip the line yourself. Hiland Bakery is an absolute gem in Hiland Park/Oak Park. Combine what my stepdad swears to be the best pecan roll in the Metro with a latte from the Slow Down next door and you have yourself a perfect little breakfast. Their cinnamon rolls are perhaps equally delightful and remind me of the lunch lady cinnamon rolls from when I was a kid (in a good way). I ordered a cake for my July bridal shower here (Lemon Lavender). The cake was amazing, looked gorgeous (I'm sad I didn't get a picture of it), and was the talk of the event. I've ordered my wedding cake from here as well and am looking forward to seeing it in September. The staff is delightful and a pleasure to work with; Fallon is outstanding! First thoughts were; functional cafe with donuts and tasty baked goods. But lacks a personality of its own. Then I took a look at reviews and photos and realized the bakery has been in the process of remodeling. A full remodel which included the building exteriors. At the time of my visit there were brick workers doing something at the front of the building. The sounds were piercing loud. I'm sure once everything settles down. Cafe staff will get a chance to add more decor to up their cozy appeal. Donuts are on par with DD's, except they taste freshly prepared & wholesome unlike the chain which no longer bakes by location. And, they offer both Boston creme or Bavarian. Although, somebody was cheap with custard filling. Come'on! (I hate when there is only one option. Most Bavarian creams are far too rich IMO.) I bought based on reviews. Ordered the bear claw apple fritter, some petit fours (these looked wonderful and tasted as good.) a brownie and a few tasty, yeast donuts. Not too sweet, just right and most importantly went well with coffee. On a late morning leaving town we wanted some sweet treats and these hit the spot. Didn't research much prior to visiting. Went in this morning for a Dutch letter and was very disappointed and annoyed at the THC infused beverage posters and the sign the THC petition next to the check out. You're going to lose a ton of customers. Focus on baking amazing foods and not promoting Marijuana. Jennifer-Wow what an unprofessional, disappointing response. I've been a customer for 19 years because it's truly the best bakery anywhere in the state. I bring my kids in on the weekend and they love the donuts and adorable charm of the bakery. 80% of my coworkers come on a regular basis and as of last year, the football moms out near Waukee have started coming in for larger orders for team events. I was so impressed by the delicious fluffy taste and their excellent pastry, that I'm actually making a movie about it (Hilander). Prices are cheap and everything was delicious - especially the apple turnover. One of the best I've ever had. The cream filling powder donut was really good - although their cream filling is extremely sweet - so you'd better like sugar. Wait, are we in America or something? Oh yeah. Not sure why they call it the Heartland. Maybe the Heart-attack-land, or the Heart-disease-land? The cream cornet is also really good. But I'm a little bit biased by the one at Hamada-Ya in Edgewater New Jersey. Also there are really friendly people running this little neighbourhood bakery - so make sure you give it a try and skip the big chains. Sort of like rappers should probably skip the big chains.
