We were looking for Chacabar, but when we got where it was located it was called Cinco. After conferring with the waiters, it turned out it was where Chacabar used to be so we decided to stay and try it. Overall, it was a good experience. Service was friendly and helpful. We ordered guacamole and chips along with a spicy margarita. The plate of guacamole was huge and very good. That could easily have fed me, but we had also wanted to try the pizza and had ordered the margarita with burrata. The pizza was definitely of the flatbread variety which we love. It was crisp and there was plenty of burrata to spread between all of the slices. The flavor was really good. We both really enjoyed it. We were stuffed after eating both of those items so couldn't try any dessert. The only downside was the margarita. I like mine tart, but this one didn't taste like there was any sweetener at all. It appeared to be just lime juice and tequila which was just not the way I like them. This review is based off their breakfast/brunch experience. Located in Aldea Zama, our group was hungry for a quick brunch and this spot came highly recommended from friends, Digital Nomad's who have been living in Tulum for the past couple of months. We came in around 11am and they were able to sit out group of 8 immediately. We started off with a couple orders of guacamole. Really solid guac here, the only thing that threw me off was the pomegranate seeds. Definitely would've preferred them not in there, not the kinda texture I'm used to when eating guac. I also had a taste of the tuna poke. The poke itself was really good, fish tasted fresh. What threw it off was the rice, which was uncooked making it not edible. It was brunch so I decided to go with the chilaquiles. I thought was ok, but my friends really enjoyed it. The portion size was pretty big and overall the price for a meal here wasn't as outrageous as the prices on the main strip in Tulum. Being that they are an mainly Italian spot that also serves Mexican food, I think ordering here for dinner would be the play here. For breakfast/brunch, it missed the mark for me. How'd we end up here? During a vacation spent in Tulum, my wife and I had an urge for cocktails and some fine dining. A short walk to Aldea Zama was where we found our coffee fix in the mornings so we gave it a shot for an evening out. That's where we found Chacabar. Right away we were greeted, welcomed and seated. Along with our menu, we were provided two cans, two variety of insect repellant. Thats what's up. Mosquitos are active soon as the sun goes down in Tulum so shout out Chacabar management. Let the evening begin with a few cocktails, very well made. What we ordered: Chimmichurri Octopus 4/5 stars Salmon and Risotto 4/5 stars Guacamole 5/5 stars The guacamole was so good. It might be the thing to do. Have cocktails and order guacamole at the least. The food here is good. You are definitely going to enjoy it. Only reason it's not a 5 star for these dishes is only because I've had other octopus and salmon which I personally found to be five star ratings. Example, Mountain Standard in Vail Colorado. I don't think this place is much of a destination yet as it appeared as the area of Tulum we were in was still being developed with much new construction in the surrounding neighborhood. Chacabar is my favorite to visit when in Tulum. Located in Aldea Zama the pizza at Chacabar is always our go to after spending the day at the beach. Drinks are always on point and the pizza is yummy. Great for cocktails and enjoying some good pizza which is the best in Tulum. When the pizza first came out I thought for sure it was going to be doughy & the furthest thing from pizza i'm used to in the states. Boy was I WRONG! I'm not even going to lie, I still think about their pizza every once and a while. They had a lunch special where you really could not go wrong. Was very impressed with this place. We really wanted to try the new Cinco, but were severely disappointed. Even though we understand that things can be slower in Mexico, 90 minutes for a baked whole fish is rediculous. And the fish had so much garlic that it was barely edible, the grilled veggies were grease laden and the football game, yes, we understood that it was the Mexican championships, was so loud that we had to yell at each other to be heard. I'm not a salad guy ... more of meat and potatoes but the salads here are awesome! Don't get me wrong, the "meat & potatoes" are great and I think unbeatable. Try the chicken enchilada stack for a authentic Mexican treat. The drinks are reasonably priced but the strength is what will bring you back with friends ... they are heavy pourers and you get much more than you pay for. Staff is attentive and if you don't get to trying the pizza on the first go around then you need to return. This place was great for breakfast and lunch. The food was tasty, not over priced and the service was excellent. If you are craving guacamole, they give you a massive amount here. More than any human should ever consume and the exact amount that I ended up eating. YES! They have some pretty good wings also, though they are on the tiny side. Cruising around Aldea Zama googling and yelping for places to eat in the city my boyfriend and I began seeing signs for the Chacabar so decided to try it out. The breakfast menu isn't massive however had a few appealing options and I'm sure there's something for everyone. We ordered pancakes which came with bacon garnished with bananas and a strawberry in addition to a omelet. Everything was delicious however the pancakes....OMG fluffy, buttery, the perfect size and almost melted in your mouth with each bite. We definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast.
