When I arrived on the second floor, the wait time was excessive. Even more concerning was the dismissive attitude and lack of professionalism from the front desk staff. At one point, I needed assistance, but the front desk employee was engaged in what appeared to be a personal phone call. Instead of acknowledging me professionally, she simply held up her finger, signaling for me to wait while she continued her personal conversation. I found this to be extremely disrespectful and inappropriate during work hours, especially while patients were waiting to be helped. I was then directed to the third floor, where I witnessed a young man and woman behind the reception desk discussing a previous patient. They were also talking about a woman who was currently in the waiting room, commenting on how angry she was and laughing about the situation. This behavior was highly inappropriate, unprofessional, and disrespectful. I intend to report this incident to their manager or supervisor. I also overheard the young man answer the telephone by saying, "So what is it that you want?" That was an extremely rude and unprofessional way to speak to someone seeking assistance. Another serious concern was the changing area. I was directed to a changing room that had a very strong, unpleasant odor. It gave the impression that it had not been properly cleaned or sanitized after the previous patient. Changing and examination rooms should be cleaned and sanitized between every patient to maintain a safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment. As a woman, I was also very uncomfortable being expected to change in a room that was open and located near a waiting area where men were present. There appeared to be little to no separation to protect a patient's privacy while changing. I do not understand why there is not a private, enclosed changing area, especially in a medical facility where patient dignity and privacy should be a priority. No patient should feel exposed or uncomfortable while preparing for a medical procedure. The two employees appeared to be more interested in socializing and laughing than providing quality patient care and customer service. I am also concerned that discussing patients where others in the waiting area could overhear may constitute a violation of patient privacy. While I cannot determine whether protected health information was disclosed, staff should not be discussing patients in public areas where conversations can be overheard. Overall, this was one of the most unprofessional healthcare experiences I have had. Between the excessive wait time, the disrespectful attitudes, staff taking personal phone calls instead of assisting patients, inappropriate conversations about patients, the lack of cleanliness, and the inadequate privacy for patients changing clothes, it appeared there was an overall lack of care, concern, and respect for patients. I hope management takes this complaint seriously, investigates the conduct of the staff involved, addresses the cleanliness and privacy concerns, and provides additional training to ensure all patients are treated with professionalism, dignity, confidentiality, and respect.

My only gripe is that their online check-in sometimes freezes and my patient info can't be saved, so actual paperwork has to be done. If you're looking for a stuffy, black suit, well-sanitized (not in a sense of cleanliness, but ... emotional?) ambiance - this may not be the place for you. The line to enter was essentially down the block but I didn't let this discourage me from getting tested since I really wanted to know what my status was seeing that I was exuding symptoms (12/19). I actually had my lawn chair with me the first time around to prevent from standing on line for a long period of time. Each time the wait time was about two hours before actually getting inside to get tested. Once inside, the process of checking in is pretty seamless. When it's your first time there, you must fill out a one-sided form which is standard. After being an established patient, it's simply a matter of stating your name and date of birth. You stand in line for a little longer before actually getting swabbed. You're asked to wait outside for about 20 minutes to obtain a physical copy of your results. From my experiences here the staff is pretty kind and patient despite the anxious people who are on liine for a long period of time. Be aware of people who try to skip in order to "ask a question"! All in all, be kind and give the staff a break, they're doing the best that they can to assure that everyone's accommodated for. I won't be back here anytime soon since I'm a Healthcare worker and my job provides PCR testing (Saliva) where the results are populated the very next day.

However, it is my last visit that I'd like to highlight. I'm a little over 7 months and am a first time mom. As anyone who is pregnant or ever has been can attest, there's a lot of weirdness that is happening with your body and health. A lot of things are considered common and/or normal. So it's hard to know when one should worry or when something is normal. Prior to my visit, I was throwing up multiple times a day. I couldn't keep any food down at all. I'd be woken up from my sleep just to vomit. If I wasn't full out vomiting, I was gagging and choking on acid and bile. I thought it was bad heartburn and acid reflux. At my OB I complained about what was happening to me. They gave me a list of things to try and take. None of it stopped the multiple times of daily vomiting, heartburn, and then the respiratory issues that came as a result. Nothing I tried worked. I tried to drink water, electrolytes, eat bland. No matter what I did I'd throw everything up multiple times in the day. Needless to say, I was so weak, felt awful, and exhausted. My OB wanted me to rule out COVID. I headed to Kamin to get tested for COVID, and see if there was anything else I could do. When I arrived I was greeted by two young women, Katarina and Nechama. They were both lovely, so helpful, and very comforting. I felt like I was going crazy due to how sick I've been, and they were amazing with normalizing what was happening with me. Katarina tested me for COVID, RSV and the Flu. And updated the PA, Alicia. Alicia came in, listened to what I had experienced, and examined me. She confidently diagnosed me with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness. And explained in depth what HG is. She started me on fluids due to my dehydration, and gave me anti-nausea/vomiting pill. I'm telling you the relief was immediately felt! I literally could feel my strength coming back and the need to vomit decreasing. When my treatment was done, Alicia and Katarina noted my demeanor change. And I confirmed how good I felt. Alicia gave me a prescription for the anti-nausea/vomiting meds and told me to come back anytime I felt dehydrated. I was so excited to go back home as I was sure I'd finally get an uninterrupted night's sleep. I have to point out that there is a maternal health crisis among Black birthing people. So it meant the world to me, as a Black woman to not just be taken seriously in regards to my health, but also being treated with so much care and attention. I am so grateful for the team at Kamin who saw me that night!
