Came here on a weekend and hiked from 1-5pm. The 4 hours passed by so quickly when walking through scenic forestry and waterfalls. I thought that the cave itself was the least impressive part of the hike. Once you get past the populated regions of the hike, it is beautiful to connect with nature in a more secluded area. I was worried about walking into wildlife, as I am not an experienced hiker. But the trails are so well maintained that it is ideal for all levels. The main trail has man-made steps and bridges. I found myself hiking past all that into the rock formations. Wildlife was people friendly- just rabbits, butterflies, birds. I saw lots of cabins in the area for cheap weekend getaways. This is surely one of my most memorable hiking adventures. I will surely come back to continue delving into this hobby. read more

Call me naive - I did not realize what a tourist destination Old Man's Cave is for so many different families! Families of all shapes and sizes and colors flocked to Old Man's Cave this Labor Day weekend to spend quality time together outside. And by quality time I mean shouting loudly at one another and dragging the kids through the gorge. In fact, I would suggest avoiding Old Man's Cave during any major holiday weekend - too many children to properly enjoy the peace and quite that Old Man's Cave can hold. And talk about peace and quiet! Once you're out of the main viewing area after the many stair climb down into the gorge, you're left to yourself as you choose to either hike to Ash Cave or Cedar Falls. The terrain never gets too dangerous and the trails are clearly marked - but it can be quite a hike if you're not used to it! If you're interested in seeing the waterfalls that the area has to offer, I would suggest going after a week or two of rain. The waterfalls were not in bloom and we were left looking at the face of the cliff full of rocks, and while they are interesting they are not stunning on their own. There are no bathrooms or water fountains along the trail so plan accordingly. Also dress in light layers - as it can be very chilly down in the gorge - but if you hit a patch of sunlight you will warm up fast! read more

They charged my family and me extra money after the stay alleging that half a vacuum cleaner full and some crumbs in the couch took them an extra hour to clean. This is ludicrous and seems almost impossible to be factually correct. They allow pets, but if any of their hair has to be vacuumed they will charge you (despite charging an extra pet fee already). We took time ourselves to vacuum, pick up, strip the beds, etc. Find a company with better business principles that treat people fairly. Don't waste your money. read more

Our cabin was cleaner than any hotel I've ever been in!!! The appliances were all new. We were in the woods but not far from town. Using the cabin kitchen to make meals was wonderful! We chose a pet friendly cabin, which allowed us to bring our furry family member. Maintenance checked the hot tub daily, and they drain and clean it between customers. The Alpine cabin was the perfect place for our family to stay when we weren't fishing, hiking or visiting antique malls. Highly recommend!!! read more

It's been years since my last visit to this place. The last time I was here, I think I was around 13 years old. And guess what? It hasn't changed a bit. Thank God. I loved this adventurous hike as a child and I still loved it as an adult. The scenery was beautiful, the wildlife graceful... But the falls were less than spectacular. Though I did come at a dry part of the season, so I can't be too shocked that Cedar Falls was more like Cedar Drips. It's an 8 mile hike round trip from Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls and back. But it's worth it. It really was an amazingly energizing hike. The only complaint I would have is there were quite a few families there but it was Labor Day weekend. Maybe next time I'll go during the week when everyone's at work. Great Job Old Man, your cave gets 5 stars! read more

uite a disappointment. Booked a 2 night stay in an A-frame based on pictures and reviews from people who apparently have pretty low standards. We left after the first night and were not given any refund for not wanting to endure another near sleepless night. The biggest and first problem was the failure of the staff to include the the strawberries and rose petals my girlfriend wanted (and paid for). The manager thought it was funny that his incompetent staff put them in the wrong chalet. My girlfriend was not amused. The price of the botched romance package was refunded but my girlfriend's good mood was not recoverable. Other issues: The beds were not comfortable at all. Hard and squeaky. Apparently due to low grade HVAC equipment, you were ordered to keep the place over 70 degrees. I do not like that high of temperature and was barely able to sleep. This place does not care about your comfort. The A-frame had many live and dead bugs. ( I would expect that in summer but not in January) I killed a large wasp, a few stink bugs, and a couple mosquitos. As I killed the wasp, the air movement sent many dead houseflies falling to the floor. There were several cobwebs by the indoor lights. Cleaning seemed to stop once over 4 feet from the floor. The A-frame advertised a wood burning fireplace. One might expect a few complimentary logs to burn, but no, you have to buy firewood separately from the office. The Wi-Fi speed tested at 0.8 megabit. I didn't know internet that slow still existed. This would not be any issue except for the fact that I had no phone coverage. Once these people have your money they will not give any of it back no matter how bad your experience is. Even if it was free, I would never come back here. read more

We spent 3 days and 4 nights in The Ravine cabin during a solid week of rain and storms. The cabin had windows from floor to ceiling, so even when we were indoors it still felt like we were surrounded by nature. The hot tab is on a covered verandah overlooking a thick and gorgeous forest and ravine. The serenity and beauty we experienced soaking up the hot tub while breathing in the fresh forest air while watching and hearing the rain fall was out of this world. It was one of most relaxing, soothing, and peaceful experiences of my life. read more

Absolute garbage. THEY canceled on me with a few days notice due to Covid. Instead of a full refund, they issued me a gift card. The problem with that is that I had already paid my finances brother $100 to house/dog sit for that weekend. The next problem is that I've since taken a job where I work out of state and can be deployed at any moment. Im attempting to use the gift card for my birthday weekend, but may have to cancel if I'm sent out of state for work. Which of course they (Chalets) will penalize me for. Funny how THEY CAN CANCEL ON ME with no repercussions. The best part is that they have now raised their prices, so my "gift card" leaves me approx $170 shy of what they are now charging. Let's not forget, they cost me $100 for someone to house/dog sit when THEY CANCELED ON ME. As a repeat customer who has spent thousands with them, this will be my last stay. We rented a A-Frame #4 at the Chalets in Hocking Hills, Ohio. We arrived after hours to a chalet that was infested with flies. In 2 days I killed 40+ flies. The bathroom floor was filthy. There was no furniture in the bedrooms, no nightstands or places to put luggage. Maintenance ignored our calls. Management was absent 2 of the 3 days of our stay and did nothing but refer us to the Owner, and when the Owner finally responded to me (AFTER we had returned home), our conversation was one of the craziest, creepiest calls I've ever had with a business owner. Owner blamed ME for not handling the situation properly. Owner said he felt I was just the type of person who liked to complain. Horrible customer experience, especially for the price we paid ($750 for 3 nights). We also had weird experiences like when a guy just suddenly appeared on the back porch unannounced the first morning to service the hot tub. Management could have cared less. Do your research and stay somewhere else. read more

Very nice location in Hocking Hills area. Old Man's Cave Chalets is in a great location near all commerce, but still far enough away for peace and quiet. My wife and I stayed in the A frame cottages and enjoyed every minute. Grouse Nest Restaurant is a must try. The customer service was O.K. nothing special. The price is a little high; you can find other cabins in the area at a lower price. read more

We stayed in two different cabins. The Lake View & Big Sky Lodge. Both were modern, comfortable and so clean! We had wifi and some of the most beautiful views! We stayed in an A-Frame cabin for 2 nights and could not have been more pleased. The cabin was clean, comfortable, modern and in a great location which was close to several hiking trails. We were so glad that we could bring our dog along! The hot tub worked as expected too. Old Man's Cave is the largest and most famous of the local parks in the Hocking Hills Region. The park's paths connect to both Ash Cave and Cedar Falls for those experienced hikers. These trails should not be tried by just anyone unless you have a vehicle at the other location as the walk is quite far. Old Man's Cave is best viewed in the early spring or the start of fall. In the early spring the new plants coming to life create a large verity of flowers that do not last the entire summer. This is also the time to find some interesting mushrooms growing as this area is perfect for their growth. The fall, well we all know why in the early fall, the tree leaves start to change color which create a beautiful view. The surroundings are all filled with bright, vivid colors that seem to captivate the mind. There is also the rare change to take part in a winter walk which the park offers a couple times during the winter. The winter walk is not recommended for anyone with any kind of condition such as a bad knee, back, or poor balance. The trail is very slippery and some of the steps will remain covered in ice. If however you are in great shape, the winter hike allows you to see the wild, untamed wonderland. There are very few people who take the winter hike, so you have the park to yourself which adds to the wonder. Both times I have completed the winter walk the group had less than 15 people. The cave is a great place to visit alone or with family. There are many sites at the cave that you and your family will enjoy and have memories of forever. The fall and the winter hikes are the most recommended. I would not bring children under the age of 10 on the winter hike. Please note that old mans cave is made for families, so most of the park is made to be user friendly. There are steps and man made bridges all over the place. If you are looking for a better hiking area then check the paths between the two parks or visit the Metro Park on State Route 33 toward Lancaster. The Metro Park has a couple of paths that offer a decent challange to those who want to hike and not just stroll. read more

This is our second stay here. My husband and I loved the first stay and planned to come twice a year. We went and stayed in an A Frame chalet, a Pet Friendly cabin so we could bring our 11 year old greyhound, as we have in years past. I saved money and vacation time for six months to take this trip, kennelled our other dog, and made dinner reservations nearby. I was really excited. Checkin is around 5. We didn't get in the hot tub until dark the first night. It felt a little slimy but it was dark and last time it was super clean. Next morning we woke up and awaited the morning visit from the maintenance man, as we knew from our last trip they come in the morning and we didn't want to be in the hot tub when he came. Watched him go next door, skipped our chalet. We decided to get in the hot tub (really our main reason for selecting this place over others) and WOW. Opened the lid and there was yellow crud and slime...I had a hot tub, and this is what it looked like if we went away for 2 weeks and didn't clean it. Totally cloudy water, and a coat of yellow slime. Makes me sick to think about. We called and they told us the customer service woman was out until Tuesday of that week. They sent a maintenance guy up and he said it would not be until 10:30pm before we could use the hot tub again. Unacceptable when that's half of why we came there. So we asked for a refund for the second night. They refused, and offered instead that we move all our stuff to an "upgrade" cabin 10 miles away. The cabin slept 10 people and it was obviously not the romantic, well-lit chalet I booked because we had had so many memories spent there. Bigger is NOT better, though staff seemed baffled why just the two of us wouldn't want to move all our stuff in the middle of the day, miss our dinner reservations, and stay in a huge house when we booked a 2 person chalet. Anyhow, we were polite to them even though we were very disappointed and wanted a refund and to go home at this point. Plus, I was disgusted. Their maintenance crew did not clean the hot tub before we arrived, apparently, and he didn't clean it the next morning either. Gross. We requested customer service call us. I don't have more vacation time for a while, but I would have been happy with a credit for another stay. No calls. My husband left 3 messages. No return call from their customer service. Finally we get her on the phone, and we have NEVER been treated so rude ever. She ACCUSED us of "putting our dog in the hot tub." A 90lb 11 year old Greyhound, terrified of water! I could not drag him into that hot tub if I tried for hours, and I am a professional...why would I ever do that to my dog? Besides, I have pictures of the hot tub -- it is not dirty from a dog, because it is coated in yellow SLIME which had been there for some time. If a dog did it, it was the dog that stayed there some time ago...not our dog. What is more likely? That their maintenance guy skipped the place twice, then made up an excuse about our dog to avoid trouble? Or her story? I think it's obvious. In any case, she was rude and accusatory and insulting. We would have come back here year after year, and recommended this place for our respective work retreats, but for some reason, they have the WRONG person working in customer service. She hung up on my husband after yelling at him and stating "I HAVE to get out of this conversation." And when I called back she behaved like a child and would not come to the phone. It is inexcusable to ignore messages for almost 2 weeks, and then hang up on a customer. I cannot recommend this place -- I am an honest person, have never complained about lodging in my whole life. Their maintenance people are dishonest -- they did not stop at our cabin (then awkwardly blamed it on our dog growling (???) on the porch when he was actually sitting next to me inside, also watching them skip our chalet from the window) to clean the hot tub -- not before we arrived, nor the next day. I will never check in anywhere at dusk again. The customer service woman also said we should have inspected the hot tub the first night. It is outside, and it was dark...I didn't realize it was my responsibility, after paying $400, to make sure there was no algae in it. And their "upgrade" was depressing and not an upgrade at all. Kinda like ordering a medium sweater and getting an XL and being told "it's bigger!" It isn't what I paid for. I would appreciate if the owner who comments on here, Mr Duval, would contact us. We asked for your # but your employee hung up on us. I cannot believe I wasted my money and time for vacation that I had been saving up on this experience. These people should be embarassed. Obviously being "right" even with their very far-fetched service, is more important to them than our business for the next 20 years. Good luck, in this economy. read more

We just returned from 4 days of camping at Old Man's Cave Campground in the Hocking Hills State Park. We had a wonderful time. You need to scout it out before you come so you can get a sight in a loop with more privacy. The sights in the main section are very close together. They look like their packed in like sardines. We were in a lovely loop on site 144. We had a large site and great neighbors. Some of the sites have larger concrete pads than others do. The water was within 100 feet as was a dumpster. The restroom and showers were very clean. The water tasted fine. We ate at Dutchman's Restaurant in Logan and it was wonderful. There is a lovely Family Restaurant at the Hocking hIlls Lodge as well. Wonderful place with plenty to do. a clean pool, a fishing lake, lots of hiking, a Zipline and tubing nearby. I highly recommend it. A litle girl had written in chalk that "this is the bestest place." I agree wholeheartedy. read more

We stayed at the laurel wood chalet it's really secluded and there is only one other place you can see in the distant but there was no one that can bother you it was nice and clean there is a gas fire place and a hot tub fully functioning kitchen with all the utensils for grilling and cooking and there is a wine bottle opener plates cups and pizza cutter there was a lot included oh and a full functioning fridge there are no out door sir lights so at night it's pitch dark but it's really cool cuz you can see the stars. There are steep stairs that go up to the second bed but I don't advise doing it while your drunk lol overall it was awesome but there is a weird smell when you first walk in and the short head sucks. Oh and you need to bring more showering soap I would definitely come back again it's two miles down the road from old mans cave and about 15 min from town where they have really good food if you don't plan on cooking. read more

My husband and I stayed in the Pine Creek cabin the weekend before Christmas. No, there is no wifi. No, there is no cell service. But that was the whole point! It was so wonderful to not have that "Oh my God, I gotta check my cell!" feeling every two minutes! The control that little gadget can have over you can be so overwhelming. This is where you go when you get away from all of it! The website said to bring a pre-paid calling card so we did. We were able to contact our children with no problems. The hot tub was amazing and worked perfectly. I thought maybe we could stick in the bed of our truck the day we left, but my hubby said they would probably notice it was missing. Such a fun sponge. ;) I already miss the fireplace and loved that the couch faced the fireplace with the TV directly above it. Couch was comfy. Beds were so-so, but we are spoiled by our Sleep Number bed so anything else is always "meh" to us. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. The whole cabin was immaculate. The only con I would have to say was that I wish there were pull down blinds under the curtains. I initially couldn't get past that creepy feeling that someone was on the porch watching us. I did, however, get over that by the second day. One other tip, they have a Dish, and apparently only have a basic package (which seems reasonable to me. More channels may make for a higher rental rate. I was more than okay with it). Bring lots of DVDs (movies, TV series, etc) unless you enjoy having about twenty different channels to watch infomercials or the Game Show Network. I lost track of how many episodes of Family Feud and Deal or No Deal we watched. But I had such a wonderful time!!!! I CANNOT wait to drag my hubby away from work and his laptop again! OMCC and Pine Creek Cabin set the bar so high I don't want to go anywhere else! Positively perfect! read more

I rented one of their cabins, it was an excellent experience. The only issue was not having cell reception around the area, till you get back on the highway. Also, they have a mini kitchen in their cabins and each cabin has a private Jacuzzi which was neat. They do not really have any food around there, so its better to pack ahead and also better to go full tank on gas, since you cant really find anything close by for food or gas, unless you drive around 8-10 miles of country road, but other than that, it was beautiful place to spend a weekend. read more

I've been in nice hotels that weren't this clean. Also, the grounds and landscaping are very well maintained. Hot tub was also very clean, nice and easy to operate. Last weekend a group of us visited hocking hills, based on my recommendation. I was the only one who had been there previously, and praised the beauty and serenity of Hocking Hills. Our first stop was Old Mans Cave. Everyone was in awe when they walked in, but this quickly came to an end. I apparently stepped off a path (literally two steps off in sand) to take a picture so i wasn't in anyone's way on the steps. I was then tapped on the shoulder by a Park Ranger. He pulled one of my friends, me and three strangers over to the side. He informed us we would be cited for being off trail. As we had this conversations i witnessed many others go "off trail" in much worse areas...again i was two steps off the trail. We were all given $135 fines, and told that they needed to show Columbus they were doing something about people going off trail (they actually said this). Again as we had this conversation they stepped away to yell at a group of people, but they were not ticketed. We were being made an example of in front of the entire park, so these rangers could prove to Columbus they were doing their jobs. They claim the trails are clearly marked, but when visiting you will see this is not the case. There is one sign in the parking lot that we did not see that states "stay on trails, do not throw things etc". It states nothing about being cited without warning.These rangers could have been citing others who were climbing rocks, children not being supervised and others who were actually off path instead of trying to prove to Columbus they do actually work. I strongly urge anyone considering going to Hocking Hills, to take their money to the beautiful state of West Virginia, Michigan or any other state where you will not be targeted by rangers trying to prove themselves. I have gone to Hocking Hills more than twenty times and i will never go back. It was clear to me that this was strictly a way to make money. I did a search and they have given 50 citations and 300 warnings in the last month, if that isn't proof i don't know what is. read more

I have heard so many good things and so this kills me to write this but, I put together this small getaway for my fiance as she is about to graduate from nursing school. The whole thing was a surprise. However upon arrival to the cabin I was a bit dissapointed in the cleanliness of the timber ridge cabin. The floors had crumbs everywhere, the kitchen was dirty, and there was syrup all over the table and tv remote. I also purchased the two-person in cabin massage package and unfortunetly being members of a massage company up here in cleveland, the massages were sub par. I also purchased the silk rose pedels and chocolate covered strawberries. Unforunetly the strawberries were about 1 day away from being spoiled and the rose pedals were a cheap plastic 10inch heart on the bed? It was very misleading when reading the package add on details on the Chalet's packet. Overall the area was very nice and quiet and the hot tub worked but I do have to send this email due to being very disappointed in much of everything else for the price i payed and the work i put into this surprise for her. I paid $140 a night for two nights plus the $170 for massages and 40 or 50 for the chocolate covered strawberries. Im not too sure I will be staying at the Chalets again.
