Purchased a house late last year with a negative sewer scope as part of the home inspection and no disclosures on sewer or plumbing dysfunction from the sellers. We experienced water in the laundry room 3 times within the first few months of living there before realizing the sewer was backing up through the floor drain. Called Young Plumbing to diagnosis it. They determined the main sewer line was clogged and needed to be routed. They cleared the blockage but could not find the reason as to why it occurred. I naturally had some questions, given no cause was found, no issues were disclosed, and a negative sewer scope was performed only a few months ago. I was also curious as to what ways I could manage this to ensure it would not happen again. I was met with shrugs, confusion, "hard to say"s, and "not sure"s from the Young plumbers. Well a few short months later there is more water in the laundry room as ever. I attempted to allow Young plumbing to rectify any missteps, to which I was simply greeted with "our warranty is 30 days so any further service would be new and fully charged." I went through a new plumbing company, who successfully routed the line and was able to find the tree route occlusion causing these backups. They not only found the reason for my issue, but also offered solutions and answered all my questions, including helping me to prepare for potential litigation with the home inspection who deemed my sewer clear and the sellers who did not disclose a surely know issue. Had I continued with Young Plumbing, who knows how much more money I'd be out and how much more damage my new home may have been subjected to. To show how much I would not recommend their services, the Young plumbers could not correctly tell me the sewer line ran to my front yard, instead telling me it went out the back... Writing this review to save someone else's time and money. Learn from my mistake. Find someone else. read more

they have a short , condescending person who answers the phone and refuses to tell you any pricing up front. even for a simple camera and inspection of the surface of the yard ...even if you know exactly where your access pipe is. the size. how far in feet the clog is, what is above and below it and have photos. why at all since I want a new sewer main anyways. geez. she just got bitchy, which, good for them. I have a good paying project and wanted it to be a Gary company and they lost a customer. When your mom is 90, it's hard to find someone to trust to work on the stuff in her old house, which is always breaking. But she had used Young before and had a coupon (of course) so we called them again to fix a sink that wouldn't drain. I got an appointment easily, and on the day they came, the office called to let me know 1) the technician could come early. I said "no bueno" because I wasn't there yet, and she needs me to open the door & garage. They easily accommodated and came at the regularly scheduled time. Called before he arrived then, too, which was great. Called both me and mom, even better! The technicians was Joe, and he put us at ease with his chatter and fixed the problem well. The estimate was high, but because of her senior discount and the coupon, it was a doable price. I would have no qualms calling them again. Great office/technical staff. A+ read more

Was lied to about a "root problem" with our plumbing. Told us to buy root killer, it didn't fix our problem after they did their work. Called Young Plumbing and got laughed at by a worker who said, "Well you're calling a plumbing company about a root problem". Had to get Summers Plumbing to help, there was no root problem. They just lied to us, and Summers proved it. read more

An $800 Disaster: Gas Leak and No Hot Water After Young Plumbing Service I contacted Young Plumbing due to a persistent knocking sound in my walls when hot water was used. They sent someone over to evaluate the issue, and their suggestion was to replace my hot water heater's expansion tank for $500. The next day, they came over and performed the service, but after replacing the expansion tank, the knocking sound persisted. The plumbers then left, saying there was probably something else wrong. Later that evening, we discovered there was no hot water and a very strong smell of gas coming from the water heater. We called them again, and they came over, fixed the gas leak, and charged an additional $300. In total, I spent $800, endured a night without hot water, dealt with a gas leak, and my initial problem remains unresolved. I cannot recommend Young Plumbing based on my experience. read more

I called young plumbing out repair a leaking faucet. This was a classic case of bait and switch. They told me to repair the tub faucet for $475 or I could replace the faucet for $1600. Well, it doesn't take a rocket science to figure out what we're gonna do. We decided to just repair the faucet. And of course they took it apart, came up with some reason that they could not repair it and refuse to give me back my 475. And just charge me for the service call. We were forced to pay $1600. The worst customer service, an extremely high prices I can think of I. Agree, they were prompting coming out. They we're professional and polite, but this was all Because they get every intention of putting us in a position where we had to pay that $1600.... They justified the extremely high price because they had to run two pex lines...we will not be usi g this comlany again... read more

I have had Young Plumbing in many occasions with excellent repair done every time. We had a water heater replaced on New Year's Day and that was the beginning of our relationship. Service and product replacement are excellent. Kitchen backup completely repaired due to an installation problem at construction. I trust them, rates and prices are fair. We recently noticed a ceiling stain in my husband's office. Since my bathroom is directly above, we assumed it might be a toilet leak. Young Plumbing sent two technicians, Justin and Tanner, who arrived within a few hours of our call. They were polite and courteous. They flushed the toilet several times, ran the tub, and listened through the ceiling to check for dripping sounds. I appreciated their effort and didn't mind paying the $95 service fee, especially since I hadn't personally checked if the leak was active. However, after they left, I read the paperwork I had signed. It stated that I told them there was a caulking issue in the master bath--this is not accurate. We had a previous caulking issue on the third floor when we moved in, and I had only mentioned that I hoped it might be a similar issue in this bathroom. The paperwork also included a proposed ceiling cut (6" x 6") with a $350 charge, supposedly required by their office. This was only briefly mentioned as the technician was leaving, after I asked if they found anything. I would not have agreed to that had it been clearly discussed beforehand. While I appreciated the technicians' professionalism and quick response, the communication and documentation could have been clearer. We still need to investigate the leak and will likely look elsewhere for further help. read more

Absolutely terrible. I had a leak from my fireplace shut off valve and a small leak in a fitting from the oven. They came out and I showed them the two problems. They go outside and come back quoting me $790. I ask what they are going to do to fix it. They explained that they had to replace the entire whip from the oven even though it wasn't the whip that was bad but the fitting itself. They then told me that cost $390 to replace the whip and it was $400 to cut open the small section of the drywall. Not even to fix it. Just to look inside and "survey it". I tell them I can cut the hole myself. I cut open the hole in less than 2 minutes and when they looked in they determined that they had to redo all the pipes leading to the fireplace. Even though the only leak was from the valve. I pay $200 to have them just cap it and they go on their way. DO NOT GO WITH THEM. They will try to up charge you and tell you that they need to do extra. You can go with better companies. I have a background in construction and these guys ignored everything I was talking about and tried to talk to me like I didn't have an idea what was going on. Also when nipsco came to turn the gas on it still leaked from the work they did. The nipsco guy ended up tightening everything correctly since they didn't even tighten it all the way. read more

Had them come out for a toilet and sink replacement. No materials needed. 855$ quote for 2.5 hrs of work. That's insane. I asked to speak to upper management or John the owner but no response so decided to leave a review. I guess it's hard to call a customer back and justify 425$ an hr for labor. Called pierce plumbing and was given a quote for $460 for the whole job. Young used to be a honest company but seems they are in the highway robbery game now. Please price shop around before using young. Response to owner : I called to get an explanation and breakdown of pricing. Still no explanation of how you get to that price. The review was posted before the phone call from the lady asking if we would still like the job completed. Check time stamp. AS for the family reference all I stated was that we have used your company many times with a reasonable pricing. Pierce was only 2.5 hours for the job. I was just a phone call away and still am . Find another plumber! Young could not/would not replace the valve in our shower faucet unless we spent $1200 to just tear out the tile. This bit of info cost me $150. When my husband came home the next day he fixed it in five minutes without the fancy plumber's tools. They are a joke and are looking for ways to make more money. Avoid at all costs!!! Not only are they shisters they are insulting. After reading my initial review they implied that the repair my husband did is not properly done and offered to come back to do it. Young Plumbing came out to quote a dishwasher installation. They quoted $600 for an installation. This was just for the installation! No materials were needed. Then, when I refused the stupid price, they charged $85.00 for the visit/quote. I called another plumbing company, and they installed it for $250.00 with no quote fee. The worse service I've ever had. Had a gas leak they came out to quote while my wife was here. Gave a quote for 1,860. When I asked them what work was completed they told me the tighten all the pipes and put pipe doe on them. I stated that's not worth 1,860 so I asked them to leave my home. They left and attempted to steal my gas meter off my home. read more

They claim to work on mobile homes but do so very reluctantly if that. I called and Tom and Jay came out on 5/22 in the morning, I had a leak that needed repairs on an outside water line. I was quoted $345, and I wanted the water line from the heater to the water source replaced, garden spigot needed a shut off valve and needed to be reinstalled correctly and the tub faucet was worn out and needed to be replaced, I was told $785, which was fine. I have lived in the home for over 8 years and it has been very hard to find someone to work on a mobile home and I was excited to have someone willing to do the work. The faucet was supposedly a special order, even though it retails for $30 on Amazon and is plastic and there is not much special about it, but the workers returned on 5/25 installed the faucet in about 30 min, propped up the garden spigot line with a piece of my scrap 2X4 and added a board to secure the spigot in place and called it a day. When I asked if they will be replacing the water line, I was told that they inspected it and it was fine the way it is. The pipe is wrapped in insulation and no one bothered to go underneath the mobile home so I'm not sure what kind of inspection that was. Tom mentioned several times how greedy his boss is and that he doesn't say no to any work, but $1130 for crimping one pipe, $30 plastic faucet, one shut off valve valued at $5 max, and 5 inches of scrap wood used to secure the spigot. Just do like everyone else and say you don't work on mobile homes. Hope all of your trucks catch every red light. AND while installing the shut off valve on the garden spigot they removed the heat tape thermometer off the pipe rendering it useless... and all of their invoices state that the work is guaranteed unless the pipes freeze. The female who finally called said she didn't know and didn't care. If they do not care, find another plumber. read more

I have a new hot water heater. Before they suggested one, they troubleshot the power supply to find a tripped circuit breaker and suggested I find an electrician first if it tripped again. It did and the electricians found an exposed wire just inside the wall that was shorting out. Since Young gave me the first visit off the price of a new unit and held the unit's price against inflation for awhile, I bought from Young. I also liked that they cleaned the dust behind the old unit for me since I was recovering from a broken arm and had just gotten over COVID. read more

Call someone else. I used them for a clogged drain pipe. They came out and messed around for a bit. Then told me they would have to go under the house to fix it and that would cost me over 700.00. Fine. As long as it was fixed. Well he went under the house and kind of fixed it. The bathtub drained for about a month much slower than normal and then clogged up again. I used a plunger to keep it going for awhile and then decided that my grandfather was right. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself. So, under the house I went armed with my trusty Sawzall. I cut out a suspicious looking angle of pipe that had no business being there. Sure enough it was loaded with years of sediment from the hard water we have here. My question is... how me a novice, spotted the problem in about 10 minutes and how the "professional company" missed it and left it there to back up again in less than 30 days? I'm guessing they didn't want to spend alot of time on the job or were looking for a repeat customer. As a side note I asked them when they were here about another plumbing issue with my kitchen and he said it would be well over a thousand dollars. I did it myself with a used piece of PVC I had in the garage in about an hour. I'm not saying they are dishonest, just not very good or maybe a bit lazy and way overpriced. read more

Justin and Kyle came out the same day, assessed the situation and gave us a reasonable price for a new ejector pump. I had used this company several times. They always recommend the most costly fix. Refused to rod the drain from my utility sink Said it would be clogged again by Christmas. Called the owner to explain what I wanted. Three Christmases later still clog free. Another time, they suggested I replace my water heater before it failed, Within a year, the new unit stopped working. Their "guarantee" replaced unit, but cost me $500 in labor. (My daughter was at home and authorized) . They do not do bad work, but trust is essential, and they do not have mine. read more

Water heater starts throwing a code and there is NO hot water. Call around and Young Plumbing comes out. We are told before they get here that it is $85 for them to diagnose it. They walk in, look at the water heater and say it is $285 an hour to diagnose it + labor and parts. We tell them we were told $85 and that will be waived if we have them fix it. They tell us you already know what the code is. To find out how to fix it is $285 an hour. Then they were waiting for us to pay $85 when they have done NOTHING. Just needed them to come out and change bolts in tank that were leaking. They told me that it wasn't leaking and I must have tightened it up when I was messing with it. Then quoted me $380 for a tank rebuild. Ok wait a minute , you try to oversell me after you said there is no leak?! I knew there was a leak he did too ! Had them come out to change a toilet out..they tried to tell me I needed all my drain pipes changed out. No, I called you to change out the toilet and I've never had a problem with the drain pipes. They changed out the toilet, it worked for a while and all of a sudden, it starts clogging. I don't have any other problem except for the fact the toilet keeps clogging. I would not recommend them. With all these new water saving toilets out, I'm considering going back to a 3 gallon tank for better flushing power. read more

They charge $85 just to look at the issue They charged me $380 for a job that they could not fix but told me since they tried they needed to get paid. After calling another plumber he said they should of known that they could not fix the issue because it was a sewage issue. I am out $380 and I have a horrible mess in my basement. Had my toilet stop flushing the day after Thanksgiving. Went on their website and left a message. Within an house I received a call back and within 2 hours I had Eric and Jay arrive with a new toilet. They had it installed and up and running within 45 minutes. Was charged over $200 JUST to tell me where a leak was coming from and was given a $2,000 estimate to fix a very simple problem. I had a different company fix my issue for $400.
