I had a fuel mixture problem in my '91 Chevrolet C1500, and I was an hour and a half away from my home base, experiencing major issues keeping my vehicle running. Fearing that I wouldn't be able to drive home, or that I would need to somehow arrange for towing, I called a number of shops in Rockwell City in the waning hours of the day when most mechanics are cramming to finish the last bit of their projects. Joe's Tire and Auto were the only ones to respond and, despite having a large list of projects already, Mitchel heard me out and offered to at least siphon the bad gasoline and help me with getting the truck's combustion cycles back up to snuff. I managed to make it there and he did just that. We joked around, had some fun conversations in the process, and he gave me a lot of advice on what other issues might be plaguing the vehicle, and how I could go about fixing them. He made sure that the fix for my truck was effective before allowing me to pay him. He was knowledgeable and helpful throughout, and I cannot recommend this business enough! Being new in town and not…read moreseeing many reviews on shops around Storm Lake I decided to bring my car in to have a heater issue looked at on my 87 accord. Heater core valve was stuck and simply needed to be unstuck. The staff was very short and not very welcoming but that's the usual it seems with these mom and pa shops around here. After calling a few times during the week, only to be told that it wasn't ready and "we'll call you back", I finally got a call to come pick up my car. As winter was approaching I was excited that this vehicle was going to blow warm air. Boy was I wrong. The tech gave me a rundown of the work that had been done and went on to show me that indeed the heater was working, but only about 30% of it and he said as the car warms up more the heater should get warmer. Never did it get warmer. It only got worse. The car blew semi warm air for a minute at the shop and from the same night and on it feels like the AC is on at all times. Summary at the end…read more Went to Ron's to drop my truck off for an alignment and to take the strut spacers off. Ron's told my husband they would have to charge for an inspection (don't remember getting a price), the alignment was going to be about $100, and we didn't get a price on taking the strut spacers off. We get a call later in the day saying the alignment is done and it's as aligned as it's going to get and it's going to be $170 for the alignment and that they didn't take the spacers off because it was going to be $1000 to remove the spacers. To better assist customers, they should have called us before doing the alignment if they knew or even had a hunch they wouldn't be taking the spacers off. We were told they were going to charge us 170$ plus $140 for inspection. On top of that, we have to get a new alignment after getting our spacers off since you're supposed to take spacers off first. In hindsight, we should have read yelp reviews instead of Google reviews because there were reviews of people with similar experiences. So we took my truck to Trickles and they quoted us about 600 for the strut spacers and the new alignment. We went back to Ron's and told them our situation hoping they would be understanding and they said they'll only charge us for the inspection so they charged us $147. We were also informed at the checkout process that they weren't familiar with spacers/lift kits on ford trucks, which is fine, but I just wish we would have known that before dropping our keys off with them. I'm just very disappointed in the lack of communication because we didn't need the work they did if they weren't going to take the strut spacers off. I wish we were told before they proceeded with the repairs. Summary: They should have called us after the inspection and told us the combined cost of the strut spacer removal AND the alignment. Instead they did just the alignment even though we'll have to get another one after strut spacers are removed. I give it three stars because I appreciate not having to pay for the alignment but I did not have a good time, definitely didn't want to pay $147 just to have to take my truck somewhere else. The alignment and inspection is reasonably priced if you're not getting it for no reason.
