Todd, the owner, is super cool and all he is there for is to help you with all your comic book needs you might ever have. I asked him about a comic I've had for years and he knew everything about it and was able to answer my questions WHILE he looked it up and didn't have to WAIT to look it up. Look at my pictures and see all the stuff he has. They have a nice selection of current & past comics, some nice slabs and a couple $1 & discount bins. My wife picked up (4) Funko Pops (BTS) for our Daughter. Plenty of great stuff to look through and a little something for most fans. We really enjoyed our conversation & visit, and will definitely be back when visiting the area. They have a huge selection of comic books and collectibles. Honestly, just let a fan loose in there and come back and pick them up after an hour so they have time to browse. When we arrived, I realized I remembered this spot from when I was a kid, I just hadn't been back since I was younger. This spot is absolutely STUFFED with books, comic books, VHS tapes and more. You could spend quite a long time wandering around looking at all of the books they have to offer. It can be slightly overwhelming especially if you are looking for something specific as there wasn't really any clear guidance on where to find certain sections. We still had a lot of fun though wandering around and seeing what we could find. If you are looking for the prices, they are written in pencil on the inside of the books. You can find a mixture of mostly used books along with some new books. They have a cute shop cat that you can sometimes spot wandering around, or asleep at the front. The woman who was working the register the day we visited was friendly! They also had a cart out-front with a number of books that were free to grab. There is plenty of parking out-front.

Once I was got to the store, I had to explore. I think that if one were to regularly visit Books, he/she would find some rare editions and other gems. Also, they had what looked like reproductions of banned book announcements posted around the store: all were of classic novels that we can't imagine not having access to as students. (See photos: Charlotte's Web, Huck Finn, Fahrenheit 451...) They were quite entertaining, in a disturbing way. They had the effect of making me feel so grateful that past efforts of censorship in the US had failed. In 2024, this is still a real threat. Tiny stores like this one are real treasures. Let's keep them in business.

I will always find the issue or trade that I'm looking for specifically at Ash Ave. Everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful. I came in one time seeking the Absolute Batman Annual weeks after it was already sold only to find out there was one issue left that they were selling for a higher price point. I believe the owner was the one who offered it to me as soon as I vocalized how badly I wanted it and he kindly gave me a discount! When I was an avid collector, I used to come weekly here because they have some of the best selection of comics in the Valley. And they're pretty personable too. I appreciate business owners who care for their customers and always have a helping hand.

Calvin and Emmet were working, and they could not have been more welcoming. They invited me to sit at one of the tables so I could watch the game while sorting thru a bunch of boxes. I thanked them for not sweating people who are just trying to find some gold. One of the young men went and got me a cold water and we talked ball for a while as I continued to search. All in all it just feels like the old school shops when you could go in and look for what you like, instead of being pushed out of the way for people buying thousand dollar cards. One other thing I'd like to point out, is they will take a look at anything you feel like parting ways with. Saw a couple different people come in, and the staff gave them fair and honest pricing and advice, instead of belittling them or offering them well under comps. This place is also located in a cool part of downtown phoenix, so you can park for free near the park, walk to the shop, then check into some of the local eateries and bars!

I was surprised upon entering because this building originally housed an art coop. We checked it out anyway. Rip Valley sells sports trading cards, memorabilia, graphic t shirts, sportswear and sneakers. There was a nice lounge area. Street metered parking which operates until 10pm. The meters accept credit cards. Police patrolled. Paid lot parking as well.
