After spending 22 years in Rock Hill, SC, I rarely found a pie that could stand up to true NY/NJ standards. Now that I'm retired and living in Bryan, TX, I've been on the hunt for anything close to authentic New York-style pizza. By pure luck, we stumbled into Champion Pizza at 2008 Texas Ave S, College Station, TX 77840 -- and what a find. Only afterward did we learn that the owner and founder runs several pizza shops in New York and brought that same craft down here to Texas. Suddenly it all made sense. Shoutout to Champion Pizza for taking care of us hangry patrons after Napa Flats literally shut the door in our faces for their Super Bowl event. We tried the pineapple+ham, the meatlovers w/ jalapeño (I don't remember the name), the margherita, and the classic pepperoni. The square slices were SO much better than the regular ones, and the difference is in the crust. The square crust was crispy, while the regular crust was terribly soggy. We ate inside. The staff are friendly and the service is quick and efficient. Even on their busy days, I am in and out within 20 minutes. Unfortunately, they didn't crush it, but it is a decent pizza and an excellent value for the quantity and quality. We got a frickin ginormous 18" pizza, literally blanketed with nickel pepperoni for $23. That's a deal, my friends. My group found the sauce too sweet and too much pepperoni (yes there is such a thing) but the crust is nice. I also like that they have oregano and garlic to sprinkle along with the typical parm and red peppers. No liquor license yet, so no beer, limited soft drinks, no ice tea :( Hopefully the owners will tackle that situation soon. Yo, New Yorkers! This is Texas! If I had the money I would come here every day. The pizza is really good! They serve Brooklyn style pizzas which are a little different from anywhere else around here like Dominos. The crust is thin and tasty. The pizzas themselves are offered in a huge variety of options which you can peruse near the checkout desk. The slices are $5 and quite large. Very welcoming employees. They have a large selection of pizza by the slice (thin crust), and you can order entire pizzas as well. We took a women's advice and ordered the Margherita. The crust is tasty, cooled to perfection, and the entire pie was great. Pretty basic interior, no soda fountain. All drinks are in the cooler. Currently 3/15/24 they have an Aggie special Tuesday- Thursday from 5 to 10pm for $10. you get two (big) specialty slices and a canned drink. I'll be back. read more

As you walk in you know they have been intentional about how clean and organize this place is and how welcoming the staff was to guests. We tried the large margherita pizza . The crust was crispy and the size was perfect. Although the cheese was a bit bland--easy fix with red peppers and black peppers--we paired it with a blasting cold, regular Dr. Pepper, and we were at ease. Holy schnikies this plans was fantaboulous!!! The nyc style pizza was probably the best I've ever had! The crust was thin and had a wafer thin crisp to it with glorious doughy goodness on top. The sauce is to die for. I tried the pepperoni, margarita, and bacon focaccia. The classic pepperoni was the best! The only let down was they don't have a drink service. The cheese sauce on it was great! The Margherita Pizza was the best Margherita Pizza I've ever had, with no bland dry spots but instead loads of flavor and basil. The Buffalo Chicken was my least favorite. Rather than fresh chicken, it seems to be chicken nugget meat chopped up and thrown on. Overall 4.3/5 rated pizza. The crunch on the crusts was terrific. I called and ordered a pepperoni pizza and they said 10-15 minutes which I was late and it still wasn't ready- then a pepperoni was burned haha so let's just say it took a while but I always extend lots of grace for new businesses so just try to do the same!! If you like tough, chewy pizza, this is the place for you. The flavor is not bad, and to be fair, perhaps the texture would be improved were the pizza delivered hot and fresh. We ordered the square meat lover as delivery to the hotel, and it was about 15 minutes late, and this was likely of no fault on the part of Champion. It is hard to imagine that this delay would be responsible for such a significant change in the crust's consistency, however. The plain cheese was better, owing to a thinner crust. It may be that this pizza is meant for dine in only, but great Neapolitan style holds up better as take out, and I doubt it can all be hung on the delivery temperature.
