We selected Ben and Champion Remodel for our kitchen remodel after interviewing several contractors. We felt comfortable with their qualifications, professionalism, and expertise and felt their pricing was fair. This couldn't have gone better. The scope of the project in our 60+ year old house expanded to include tile flooring throughout the house and recoating ceilings in the main public areas and bathrooms. Their previous experience working with our kitchen designers certainly was a factor, but what we really appreciated the most was the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and open communication throughout the process. We used Champion Remodeling for a modest update of our master bathroom, totaling about $8k for labor and an additional $5k for supplies. While the bathroom ultimately looks pretty good (with a couple exceptions noted below), the tiling especially, it is extremely unlikely that we'd recommend this business to others, for a number of reasons. First, the project was originally expected to take a week. Instead, nearly four weeks later the new tub was finally installed. That's not all Ben's fault, but I'd place most of the blame on his shoulders. I really should've expected it when he showed up over an hour late to look over our bathroom and give us an estimate, without a heads up or even an apology. Over the 20 business days the project took, we had people working maybe 7 of those days, so the expectation of a week's worth of work was right on the nose, just spread out over a month. A significant chunk of time was waiting for a replacement for a damaged tub. "Happens all the time," Ben said. If that's the case, why not inspect all the parts on day one to be sure everything is in order, instead of on day 14? Had we known on day one we'd have had a replacement in short order. I'm certain part of what we're paying a contractor for is their experience with these matters - we're surely not capable of identifying a damaged tub seal or missing rough-in valve. Second, and another important reason the project went over schedule, was that Ben was often late, usually by hours or sometimes even days. My wife and I have to take some time off of our busy schedules to be available, but that's expected to some degree. The problem was that the delays were almost like clockwork - almost any time a work day was scheduled, you could almost guarantee there'd be a delay. We got the feeling that our project wasn't important - but the checks of course were! So important that Ben never told us when they were expected, so when he asked for a check I had to ask him to wait to cash it because I hadn't transferred the funds yet. He didn't wait, and it wound up costing me a significant bounced check fee. Third, there was a lot of demo material left behind in our garage. Ben eventually picked some of it up when the tub was finally installed, but he left a lot of it behind - a large tub box, and a bunch of concrete and tiling we just ended up having to cram in the trash. Normally not a huge deal, but we had a neighborhood waste pickup scheduled, and when we asked Ben if we should just put it all out for disposal the first week of the project, he assured us he'd take care of it. Now we're trying to cram a 6'x3' hard cardboard box into our recycling, bit by bit. Every week for the next month I'm going to be irritated by that, when we could have been rid of it a long time ago. Next, with some of the work being done, we could've stood with a little less cursing. If our two year old had been present, there's not a chance they would have been welcomed back the next day. We were also caught off-guard by the cost of the glass, I think intentionally. Before the project started, we asked if the price would be in the $1000 range, and Ben said he thought it would be. He "had a guy who'd give us his rates" he kept telling us. We followed up several times to get an idea of costs, but Ben could never give us a straight answer and we didn't find out until the last minute when the glass installer gave us a firm cost of $1600. Not a huge deal, but why the secrecy and why not give us a straight answer from the start? Unless he wanted to keep us from shopping around. Lastly, we were expecting things to be sealed with a grout color-matched caulk. When I mentioned to Ben that we hadn't picked it up, he told us not to worry, he had all sorts of colored caulk available. He had plenty of white caulk, and now we've got a tub with a thick layer of it embedded on a sand-colored tile. Looks less than professional, especially against a fairly well-done tile job. All in all, a pretty frustrating experience and not what we were expecting out of a $8k remodel. Won't ever recommend them to anyone. Probably should change their name to "Mediocre Remodeling." read more

We had Ben remove some walls, redo our kitchen, and retile most of our house about a year ago. We had some electrical, plumbing, carpentry, tile work, etc. I think Ben and his crew did excellent work. But I would give 4.5 stars if I could. Cons: At times thing seemed a bit disorganized or not well communicated. Some of this confusion made the project take longer than I expected. However, I know Ben juggles multiple jobs at once. At times it didn't feel like we were the priority, and we probably weren't. Pros: Ben listens to his clients and makes sure you are happy with the result. The work itself was done very well. He brought in very skilled, excellent workers. Everyone that came into my house was professional and kind. He knows who to go to for the best product at the best cost. The end result was definitely worth it. I would definitely hire him again. A year later, I am still in love with my kitchen and the work Ben did still stands strong. read more

I have used Champion Remodel twice. The first time we hired Ben, we totally remodeled our old master bathroom with amazing results. We were so pleased that we decided not to move! Then we re-hired Champion Remodel one year later to do a complete remodel. Two hallway bathrooms and a large galley style kitchen with new large format porcelain tile throughout the entire house. The whole project was completed on time, however...a little bit over budget because my wife chose high end plumbing fixtures and appliances. Ben and his crew were professional, easy to work with and diligently completed the project on time so we could move back in. We would highly recommend Champion Remodel to all of our friends. read more

You get what you pay for. We used Champion to remodel our master bathroom. Ben is a great salesperson but lacks attention to detail and good note taking. We mentioned several times what we wanted in the shower regarding a shelf only to come home and have something completely different than discussed. Ben tried to sell his way out of it by saying that the wiring was in the way. Ultimately he did not want to loose his best tile guy for another day and spend money to frame in the shelf. We settled just to make up for time lost due to days his staff was tied up at other jobs or not working. At the end Ben was rushing to finish and tried to use old baseboards instead of buying new ones. I had to hire professional painters to fix his subpar wall texture work in order to have the walls look appropriate. If you are looking for a contractor who can help you flip a house and want a fast/simple upgrade this is a good option. Otherwise you might want to continue your search for a different contractor. read more

We hired Champion Remodeling to remodel a 3500 square foot home in Scottsdale. Prior to hiring Champion Remodeling, we interviewed 3 other home remodeling companies. My husband and I felt that Ben was the most knowledgable out of the companies we reviewed. He explained everything concise and clearly from start to finish- this was a huge plus for us because we have had bad experiences with contractors in the past. For the most part, our entire home was remodeled...starting with the flooring, kitchen and 3 bathrooms (including plumbing and electrical upgrades). Ben steered us in the right direction as far as purchasing all of the personal items, such as flooring/kitchen cabinetry/counter tops/appliances/electrical and plumbing fixtures. He original told us that if we used his company's buying power, we would get substantial discounts, which we certainly did and were very satisfied with the savings!! Overall, we are very satisfied with the end results. Originally Ben told us that the project would take 10-12 weeks to complete, and this project was completed in 12 weeks...right on time for us to move in! Also, a big shout out to his team, which were very professional and clean. We will certainly use them again in the near future when we decide to flip this home, and go onto a bigger project. read more

Overall, these guys did not do a good job. We had bathroom remodeling done and other odd jobs around the house. From the beginning Ben was always in a hurry. He also assured us he would always be on hand to supervise that the work was being done properly, he wasn't. They rushed everything they could and cut corners as often as they could get away with it. And when called on it Ben would seem irritated, as if bothered that you expected to have the job you were paying for done properly. They also damaged several items without ever mentioning it. If anything goes wrong you have to be there to catch them because they will never say a word. I would go so far as to call Ben dishonest in this respect. Some jobs they did turned out more or less looking good, others were terrible and made clear they did not know what they were doing, yet they did it anyway. They were inordinately messy, even for contractors, and left messes and debris everywhere without bothering to clean up. In the beginning they showed up when scheduled, then they started taking days off without ever contacting us. We had to chase them down to find out if they would be working or not and when they would be back. I would not let these guys back into my house to do anything, even if they offered to work for free. And I would never recommend them to anyone else. read more

Champion Remodeling (Ben, Ben and Tony) did an amazing job on our two guest bathroom showers. The showers were previously the builder grade cultured marble and were in excellent shape but we wanted to upgrade to tile. Champion Remodeling had very competitive pricing, they guaranteed their work for 5 years and were very timely with everything from the initial quote to completion. I had a very tight schedule and needed both showers completed in 10 days and Ben and his crew not only completed the job on time, the completed it with exceptional results. The attention to detail with our tile clearly shows. They took every precaution possible to protect our tile and carpet and explained each step of the process. They showed up in time (8:30) every single morning and stayed on task throughout the day. I will definitely use Champion Remodeling again and have already spoke to be about installing French doors for our pantry. read more
