I had just crossed the border from Canada into the US. After hearing horror stories about gas prices there, i had waited to fill up at the first American station I found. Nothing extraordinary going on here. I wasn't hungry, but knew that for the next several hours I would be driving through rugged terrain, so I decided to grab a bite for the road. The fried chicken that lined the food case was the most convenient choice. I was a little concerned that it might have been sitting out all day, but it was late on New Years Eve and I didn't think I had many other options. A variety of typical flavors were available: bbq, teriyaki, regular, garlic herb, etc. I only ordered two pieces of teriyaki. BIG mistake. I should have ordered the whole bird. It was sooooo good. Homemade, still fresh tasting, and juicy. I savored the second piece and even briefly considered turning around and driving back for more. But I was too far away. The nicest part of the encounter was the man behind the counter. After he gave me my food in a container, I asked if I needed a label or something with the price on it. No, we work on the honor system here, he replied. The middle of nowhere is such a lovely place.

Well if you do business with Key R-D Trailers ( and docks and lifts) you will be taking a trip back to the 60's as they are men of their word and I only wish I could find more business to do with them. I considered​, reluctantly​, the Dock Doctor and they said it would take weeks and wanted $13,500 + delivery + installation for the same thing I purchased from Key for $8991 incl. freight! The brand is Hewitt which is the king in Minnesota Land of 10,000 lakes and our birthplace​. Hewitt has an excellent reputation and most would say it is as good as what Dock Doctor carries if not better. So I decided on Key from Plattsburg who were friendly knowledgeable and I didn't have to deal with an attitude like you get from those that overcharge​ and underdeliver! Eight (8) days after I ordered it Howard and his wife were assembling it on my beach in 90-degree​​ weather from 1 pm​ to 9:30 on a Saturday. They survived the sun, the heat, the dark, ​and mosquitos and never complained and with both in their 60's I can tell you that there are few 20 something​ that could keep up with them especially without complaining! Let me assure you that these guys are the real deal and I would​ not​ hesitate​ in buying anything from them and in fact next spring I will be ordering additional extensions for my dock!
