I have the very good fortune (as the result of extensive research) to have "found" European Autohaus. Kent, the owner, is extremely honest and fair when it comes to any repair recommendations & required preventative maintenance, with regards to my Mini Cooper. My areas of expertise do not pertain to automobiles. I need to be able to rely on knowledgeable people ~ whom I trust; which I can comfortably do so, at EAh. The feeling I get when I leave the shop is utter satisfaction; knowing that the 'job' has been well done and that my safety is taken care of. these people are not interested in costumer satisfaction and/or quality work. They couldn't figure how to do the job they were hired to do and also told me they would do. this was supposed to take an hour and 8 hours later they finally tell me that it won't be done until next week because they aren't open Fridays?? horrible experience. would not recommend. read more

I'm not sure about the negative experience but mine was the complete opposite. My BMW was leaking, no gushing radiator fluid on my way back to NJ from crossing the Canadian border and there with no dealerships around for over 200 miles. Desperate, I searched for a garage that repairs European cars and this one showed up. I called and the owner said to have it tow it and he will take a look. It was a cracked radiator reservoir. He said since it was already 4pm, he cannot get the parts in time but will be repaired tomorrow. He even offered me a ride to a motel closeby. Next day right around 1pm, he said that the car is repaired. I was expecting a crazy price but he charged me a jobber's part plus an hour labor! I was very happy with the work and it's been over a year now and I have not experienced any leaks since. These guys are friendly and professional. read more

Don't believe the negative reviews!! These guys are great from start to finish. I just moved to the area after having my car serviced in Albany for a few years and didn't think I would have to find someone to service my car a month after moving up here from Saratoga. I have a 2014 BMW 535D and knew after reading bimmerpost that a busted clockspring was likely the issue for the driver restraint system malfunction error. Called and stopped in to assess and we chatted that the symptoms lined up to exactly that. Part was ordered, dropped off the car and it's like brand new. If you do your homework, there are no surprises and they happily educated me on how exactly the clockspring functions, so I learned a few things in the process. The team at European Autohaus is always friendly and helpful with my auto issues and questions. They do their best to accommodate my schedule and get my vehicles in for regular service (e.g., oil changes, swapping to winter or summer tires, etc.) and when something unexpected comes up. I think the 1-star reviewers are just looking to complain. As a business owner who struggles with Yelp whiners, I feel the owner's pain. This place is great! The staff are knowledgable, professional and friendly. The prices are fair and they even have a chart comparing their labor rates to other, similar shops in the wider area. I would have my car worked on there much more often if it weren't an hour drive! Love this place. read more

Surely there have to be better, more honest, more customer-friendly auto repairs shops in the area. On Monday morning, I called to get an estimate to replace a window regulator in my car. The employee found the price of the part. Then, the employee explicitly said it would take two hours of work. He quoted me a price of $270. I accepted that quote, then he ordered the part. Originally, he was going to have me come in on Tuesday. But he asked me where I lived. Because I was staying 45 minutes away, he decided to have me come in on Wednesday, so that I wouldn't have to drive an hour-and-a-half if UPS was slow on Tuesday. Fast forward to Wednesday. I spend the 45 minutes driving to the shop. I walk in, explain who I was. I dealt with the same employee I spoke with on the phone. He says that he made a mistake: Even though he explicitly said it would take two hours to do the job (his words today, not mine), and even though he knew that labor was $100 and change an hour, he "accidentally" misquoted the price by $100. So instead of the $270 quote I received on Monday, I was now looking at $370. Here's the kicker: He tells me that he realized his mistake as soon as we got off the call. He further says he THOUGHT about calling me right away to correct his mistake, but just figured he'd tell me once I got in. Now, remember how he didn't want me to have to drive up to Plattsburgh on Tuesday when there was a chance the part wouldn't be in. Of course, if the part wasn't in, he wouldn't make any money off me. But when there was a pricing error that ran in his favor, he was perfectly fine having me drive one-and-a-half hours. There's a pretty strong implication here: He thought he had me trapped with a quack quote. He didn't. I walked away. You should too. Go somewhere else. read more

Worst place to take your car and way over priced. I was charged $240 worth of labor to check a battery when they originally said 1hr.A BATTERY CHECK. Ended up having a family member bring the an alternator from the city that cost $175. We changed it ourselves unfortunately in this intense cold weather. Also the headlight they said I needed, I didn't. The bulb was $14. They wanted to charge $1700. Save yourself the trip and money. GO ELSEWHERE read more

I would not recommend this place at all. The guy gave me an outrageous list of problems, a huge estimate and then offered me next to nothing to buy my car because it's in great shape and he wanted it..He tells me I have a "serious oil leak in the engine". I have changed the oil once and put two quarts in within 6 months. Makes u wonder how "serious" it is Slimeball car salesmen.... Fixed the electrical with a friend in like 2 hours... He told me you can't buy parts for the car at the parts store...yes you can... Can't put anything other than oem parts in... Yes you can. read more

I'm posting my review solely on a conversation I had with a man, while no work was actually done. I called to get pricing on an O2 sensor replacement on my VW. The man I spoke with asked me why I think it's the O2 sensor and I explained my situation. I had a CEL and when plugged in, gave a code. I had done months of research myself and spoke with a few VW "experts" out of state and was told chances are it's exactly what I thought. I went ahead and purchased one, not realizing the garage we had was too small to do such work. At that point, I was willing to pay someone to do it for me because I had been uninspected for too long and needed my car back. He also mentioned he didn't install customer parts, which obviously I want asking - I had just mentioned I had one we tried to replace already. I may be a girl but I know better than that... The man I spoke with said " I can bet you anything it's not the O2, that's it's the catalytic converter" in which I refused because it would cost more than the cars worth. I stated I did not want a new cat, that I would only want the O2 and if it didnt fix it, I was going to sell the car. I mentioned that he he says "well, there ya go. I saved you some money" with some kind of attitude. Well after that conversation and realizing this guy was just a jerk, I found another (larger) garage to install it in myself. Lo and behold, 4 days later my car has no CEL and was able to pass inspection with flying colors this afternoon! So yes, you did save me money sir. Money I know not to ever give to you if I ever needed a part replaced. read more

The European Autohaus is one of the only places in town that can work on my European car. I'm not sure if that's the reason that they take advantage of me or not, but I'm basically trapped sometimes, depending on what's wrong with my car. I always make an appointment to bring my car in, but I never get it back on that day. Every time I take it in, it's always, "well, we were a little backed up today." "Well, why did you tell me to bring in my car today?" It always takes 2 or 3 days to get my car back. Another problem, and I've heard this from others so I guess I'm not alone, is that no matter what I'm in for, I can't get out of there for under $500-700. They always manage to find "something else", and it usually runs around $500-700, if I'm lucky. It's partly my fault because I don't know enough about my car to dispute it. I was spoiled because my grandfather was a mechanic, and I never had to deal with this stuff before. I'm looking for another place that can work on my car. I probably won't be returning to European Autohaus, unless I have absolutely no other choice. (~sigh~) read more
