While visiting my folks, my dad had an appointment at Chan Family Optometry. I called to see if they could squeeze me in while I was in town. Jay was very helpful in accommodating me. Wendy brought me back for a very thorough round of pre-testing. Her positive attitude and sense of humor helped me to relax, which was helpful since I always get anxious at doctor appointments. I recently learned a fun fact that being stressed out actually makes your vision worse so feeling comfortable matters! This optometry office is unique because you get the feel of a peaceful town but they've got all the same sophisticated equipment as the reputable optometrists I've seen in LA. Their technology is the leading edge. I'd never even heard of IPL that's FDA-approved to treat dry eye until I came here. It was refreshing to get outside of LA where doctors with an extensive background tend to feel unapproachable with their prestigious marketing and crazy fees even though they're providing the same services. I feel like Dr. Tiffany Chan is the exact opposite. She is a highly knowledgeable specialist yet personable and a good listener. She never made me feel as if I was asking too many questions. Instead, she made me feel heard and respected my concerns. I had done my own research on dry eye syndrome since my LA optometrist had never taken it seriously (can you believe that???) Dr. Chan examined my tear breakup time and her explanations were very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I've seen a lot of clinicians and specialists in my lifetime and many of them left me with the sense that it's their own best interest that they have in mind. It's clear to me that Dr. Chan is a doctor of good integrity and she cares about her patients. When I followed up with her she sounded so glad to hear of my progress. I take a holistic approach to my health and I appreciate how supportive and caring she's been about my eye care and wellbeing. Undeniably, the quality of our vision is central to how we feel in our lives. I value and appreciate having such a highly accomplished individual and truly sweet human being as my eye doctor. Being able to see a professional with heart is such a rare find these days. Given the value, it's worth the trip if you're in the mood for a getaway surrounded by trees and you happen to be due for an eye exam. read more

Been a patient of this phenomenal family's business for nearly 3 decades. Since Dr. Moon retired, I've seen a few different doctors over the last few years who didn't quite measure up. My eyes are ridiculously sensitive & Dr. Moon has cared for them for my entire history of astigmatism! I still travel here (1.5hrs) because of the trust built among this practice. Recently, I had an exam with Dr. Khieu... allow me to sing praises to Dr. Khieu's amazing patience, calming manner, & communicative process throughout the exam. Closest care to Dr. Moon I've received since! This was my first time working with Optician Shelly as well & she was just delightful! Energetic with joy, patience, and excited to help me find the right frame. She ordered the frames I truly wanted & even sent me a link to the model so I could share the look at home. I really didn't want to write a public review, but it's almost as if they're asking for it, so here we go. First, I had a vision test and new glasses done in July 2021 at another facility, just bc I didn't know about this place, we're pretty new to the area. Then, in November 2021, I suddenly lost a lot of vision in just a few weeks, along with seeing white spots, headaches and dizziness. My physician referred me to Dr Ayazifar bc the case was more serious than just having a vision exam. So I explained everything to the person who took my call and scheduled an appointment with Dr Ayazifar. When I got to my appointment, I had the surprise of being booked with Dr Chan. Now I have no beef with Dr Chan, she's a lovely lady, but this was not whom I took an appointment with - she's not an ophthalmologist. When I asked later why they did that they said that Dr Ayazifar is a surgeon and very important and not to be disturbed unless really needed, and that my case didn't warrant an appointment with her ... oh really!? Then I had glasses (regular and sunglasses) done right there and then, bc my vision had changed so much. They have several frames to choose from, but they all look the same, so I was disappointed on that front. Then the lady who took my order for the new glasses made a point of saying that they would ONLY call me when both pairs of glasses would be in, and I also made a point that yes, ONLY contact me when both pairs are ready. One week later I get a message that my glasses are ready, so I'm excited bc I was expecting 2 weeks. They also make a point of not needing an appointment for pick ups, but I had to wait a good 40 minutes, only to find out that only the sunglasses were in. The week after, my regular glasses arrived and I went back and waited another 30 minutes for that pick up. Then I got back home and tried to work on my computer ... I'm a graphic designer and have 2 big upright monitors, well guess what, I have to bend my head backward to see anything. I never had that problem with ANY other glasses before and after asking around, I was told that they didn't take the measurements correctly - I have progressive. I also now know of 3 people who had the same issue and that their facility, NOT Chan Optometry, redid their lenses without a single fuss and it fixed the problem. So I called to ask how to fix the problem with my glasses ... and they said to come back in ... so I did ... and a guy who I had not seen before told me that it's MY problem and that the glasses are made for me to look at my monitor at a lower angle, and practically that I should forget about my big monitors and just work from a laptop from now on. Sorry about my crude language here, but he literally was pi@$$!ng on me and telling me it was raining. The lady who did my glasses was there with her back turned on me and never had the courage to look at me. They knew from the start that they were not going to help and send me away, yet they made me lose my time and had me come in for absolutely nothing. As if paying close to a $1,000 for glasses there was not enough, I went back to the previous place I went in July to spend another $325 for new lenses to fit my previous frame so I can work properly. Bottom line, so many things went wrong, they don't take accountability for their mistakes and they're misleading .I still don't know what's going on with my vision, bc after only 2 wks with the new glasses, I see blurry again, but I do know that I won't be going back there. The one star ratings provided by others blow me away! I have been getting my annual eye exams and prescriptions here for more years than I can remember. At first, I shopped elsewhere for less expensive lenses and frames. This never was reflected in their consistently positive attitude toward me as a patient! The less expensive glasses weren't worth it. So, for the past 3 pairs, I've purchased them here. I've never had such good looking, light weight, durable and well fitting frames in my life! Yes, these cost about $100 more, BUT last twice as long. You do the math. My attitude is that of a patient going in for a medical appointment, not as a customer shopping at a Walmart or online! Possibly, they are reflecting my attitude in their always positive attitude toward me. Yes, as with most medical offices, the wait usually is no more than 10 minutes... about what I expect. Oh, and I wear a COVID mask, as their signage announces well before entering the inner lobby! Finally, 5 or 6 years ago they were one of the first, if not the first, to offer a retinal scan option. Yes, it costs a little more than the traditional dilation. However, they now have a history of incredibly detailed digital images which they can and do post for discussing any changes over time with me. read more

I visited Chan Family Optometry about a month ago for a routine eye exam and to get an updated prescription for both glasses and contacts. ​Dr. Khieu was fantastic, as was everyone I encountered during my visit. The office itself is also very nice and well-equipped. I was happy that we were able to accomplish everything we needed to do without needing to have my pupils dilated :) They are definitely my new go-to for eye care. read more

I am so thankful to have been a longstanding patient at this practice. Tiffany has always made me feel so cared for and takes the extra time to answer my questions and educate me about eye health. I began seeing Dr. Moon for eye examinations and glasses over 20 years ago, and then she retired - and they will never fill those shoes again... after Dr. Moon retired I had 2 minor issues with insufferable attitudes by the employees - but now they've done something that has me looking for a new optometrist... often, a business will get so big and successful the employees will act like they don't want or need your business - and sadly after Dr. Moon retired the attitude of the employees went downhill fast... minor issue #1) I brought in some glasses I had bought from them perhaps 10 years earlier because the screw had fallen out of one of the hinges, and I just wanted them to replace the screw... the glasses were still perfectly fine and usable except for the missing screw... you would think I had come in there waving a gun... while making me wait for 15 minutes to put a screw in the hinge, the entire crew up front were all talking about how I wanted THEM to actually REPAIR glasses (a simple screw in the hinge) I had bought YEARS earlier from them - giving me up and down looks like I was some kind of crazy person... it was like they had never even HEARD of anyone ever doing this before - and I was the world's biggest cheap-skate for not simply buying another $200 pair of glasses from them to replace the glasses with a missing screw... HUGE attitude adjustment needed... minor issue #2) this was a billing issue: I was having tests done that were paid by my medical/health insurance, and I pay through the roof for a policy where I pay no co-pays or deductibles - I pay nothing except for my insurance premium every month... so I started to get these statements from Chan Optometry saying I owed them for some tests and the bill was months overdue... I called them and explained my insurance was supposed to cover those and they apologized and said they had mis-billed it... a couple months later the same thing again - they sent me the same statements saying I owed them for tests and now the bill was WAY overdue... I called them back and explained my insurance PAYS EVERYTHING and I don't owe them a penny... they said they would have to check into this - acting like I was trying to pull a fast one on them... they finally called me back a week later and said they had mis-billed it, but again - no apology whatsoever for their mistake and very condescendingly made it sound like it was all my fault... HUGE attitude adjustment needed... now for the straw that broke the camel's back: I have tests done every 3 or 4 or 6 months and I had made an appointment for Tuesday Feb 14 at my last appt months earlier... so on Friday Feb 10 I get a call from them wanting to confirm my appt on MONDAY Feb 13... well I thought my appt was for Tuesday, not Monday, but my calendar is in my phone and it's somewhat inconvenient to go into the calendar when I'm talking to someone on the phone - so I just assumed I was mistaken and my appt was for Monday, not Tuesday... so I tell them I'll be there and we hang up... and I now check my calendar in my phone and I discover my appt IS for Tuesday as I had thought... so I call them back and I say my appt is for Tuesday not Monday - and THIS IS WHERE IT GETS WEIRD... she tells me with their standard condescending attitude that I have TWO appts - one on Monday (that I had NOT made previously) and one on Tuesday (that I HAD made)... so I ask what the appt on Monday is for and she says that is for my tests... I said I thought I made the appt on Tuesday for the tests - and she says no, that appt is for Tiffany to tell you the results of the tests... wait a minute I say - you mean I have to come in the next day to be told the results? yes, she says, that's our NEW POLICY - we only do tests now on Monday and then you come in on a following day for the results... and then she says even more condescendingly: just like when you go to a lab for tests for your doctor - and then you go see them later for them to tell you the results... and all this said with a very condescending tone and attitude as if I should already know this... I said actually it's not like going to the lab for tests for your doctor, it's like going to your dentist for x-rays one day and going in the next day to be told the results... but the curious thing is, on the first call on Friday to 'confirm' my NEW APPT on Monday for the tests, they made it sound like I had made that appt months earlier, instead of explaining they had a 'new policy' to save money by only testing on Mondays and making patients come in another day for the results - and they were actually not confirming my appt, BUT MAKING A NEW APPT FOR THE TESTS without explaining their 'new policy' of saving money by making patients come in twice so they only have to pay the person doing the tests for one day (on Monday)... absolutely repugnant customer service... so now you have to take TWO days off work for something that should only take ONE day... absolutely insane policy... read more

My Family had a problem last year with Chan Family Optometry, when the very expensive frames we purchased for my Son, had a loose Temple where it attached to the frame. We noticed this after a week, the first time my Son put them on. (Our Son's eyesight changed relatively late, 12 years old, so he has been putting up resistance to wearing them, at all). When I brought the Glasses in I was told that we would have to purchase new Frames. (The implication being that we had somehow broken them). I asked for our Money back, and they changed their tune and replaced the frames. Now ,the recent encounter with Chan Family Optometry: I have been wearing glasses since I was 1 year old, and for several decades since. When I have a Frame that I would like to have lenses placed in I sometimes get the answer of " Well ,we can't guarantee that the Frames won't Break". I have never had any Frames that I supplied break, so I always take the chance. My Son and his Mom came in to Chan with my explicit instructions that if Chan says they might break we will take the chance, and if they say they won't send them in for any reason we will take them someplace else. When the Frames were brought in my Family was told that, (according to my Son), "these Frames are too flimsy so we will not send them in for you". So Mom ordered a set of $200 frames. I went in when I found out and asked Chan's agent why we couldn't use our Frames; she replied, "I don't know I wasn't here", and she pointed to another Agent and said it was her. Then she said "it's our prerogative to not send Frames in, if we don't want too". I turned to the other Agent who had disappeared so I couldn't get a confirmation from her as to the "too flimsy" comment to my son. I immediately went 1 block away to another Optometrist. and was told-"These are in great shape, of course we can put lenses in these". All three members of our Family wear glasses, and Chan Family Optometry Just lost three customers. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Jerry Chan for many years. He is an excellent doctor. He discovered a tumor in my eye on a regular, yearly exam. I had no symptoms and the surgery team commented how amazing it was, that Dr. Chan had found this so early. I highly recommend this doctor!. read more

I bought a pair of glasses which cost $375. They were great in helping me find and order the glasses I wanted (which is why my 2 star rating is not a 1 star). I received the glasses after 2 weeks and came in for adjustments. It took 5 attempts to get the glasses to sit level with my eyes. To do this their solution was to bend one of the (normally straight) stems making them look unacceptably bad. I had to come back for a subsequent adjustment. They bent the stem back to the correct, straight configuration. An additional tweak made them sit almost correctly. ...almost... I asked for one additional minor adjustment and they refused. You would think for the price I paid that you would receive quality service. Nope... read more

Arrived a little late on Friday (some blame here) and the staff was flustered by the amount of business.This was immediately apparent upon entering the business.I had asked for a repair of my old glasses and did not care if they charged me for the repair or not.They acted like they were doing me a big big favor from the start by stating that ....."well we can help, but you are not a current customer." I asked if I could try on some Oakley frames and first they put me off then, when I kept pressing them, they said well they are in a locked box so I could not try the Oakley frames on.So definitely no future business from me!Treat your potential customers like current customers, but if you already have too much business keep treating potential customers this poorly because you can. read more

I have switched optometrist because I was not thrilled with this optometrist office. On more that 1 occasion I have waited well past my appointment time and i believe that this is b/c the Optometrist I saw was so chatty. As someone who takes off of work for appoints like these, time does matter. All of the testing in the office is done by staff and not by optometrist themselves, which eventually has a feeling like you are being handed off. This office also requires you to come in for a 2nd appointment for contact lenses, which the new optometrist I am seeing does not - saving time and $$. I was also surprised the the current prescription my new optometrist has given me is a lower power in both eyes. I was skeptical about this at first but I have to say that I am seeing better than I was and my headaches have reduced. read more

Dr. Kirschbaum is one of the coolest people on the planet. Having an appointment with her is like being in a really fun science class, but the teacher is also the coolest kid in school! I have contemplated making up eye problems just to hang out with her. Whoa! Too creepy? Ehem, let's get back on track. I think everybody should go here. It's one of my favorite places on this planet. Seriously. The staff is really professional and friendly, they've got a large selection of frames, it's fantastic. There are toys for your little ones, drinking fountains for your thirsty ones, even magazines for your literate ones. No reason to think about going anywhere else. Heaven. read more

Hello, I am writing to tell you how dissatisfied and upset I am with your office. I came in to get a check up because of a freckle next to my optic nerve. I was told from OD that it would be covered by medical insurance and that I needed to come back in 6 months. I returned after 6 months and at check in the office staff said they needed nothing from me. I signed no forms was not given a quote. They said they did not need anything from me. I sat down to wait and I hear the staff whispering. I thought it was very unprofessional to have them whispering about me. I was brought back to a room which was dirty and they asked me to wait while they cleaned the room. I finished my appointment with Rodriguez and went to check out. To my surprise they want me to pay $150. I was very surprised because I was never told that my insurance would not pay for the test or exam. I became upset and they offered for me to speak to the office manager. The office manager refused to come out and speak with me. They told me it was my responsibility to make sure my insurance paid for it. They had my insurance in there system so they already knew that they could not bill and HMO. Well I as far as I know if they do not notify me that my insurance down not pay that it's not my responsibility. I felt like I was tricked and that they scammed me. I am sorry to say I paid because I was so upset and never want to return for services. I never questioned the insurance because I expected that your staff would have notified me that you do not except HMO before I had the services. read more

Never got to the great doctors due to poor reception experience! Reception during scheduling over the phone demanded I provide not only vision insurance info but also medical insurance info and said she could not schedule me without it. Given I provided her accurate VSP info to look me up and she didn't try to reconfirm any of the info she had taken down incorrectly she shared she could not schedule me. I told her I'll get the ins piece cleaned up, but I'm happy to pay directly in the meantime. She then admitted she could schedule me but only after she created a bad experience. During the chat over the phone she also maintained she needed my "medical ins" info which I've never had to provide to any optometrist in 15 yrs of needing glasses. She said it was "for the file" if anything medically occurred during the exam. In this era of hacking and identity fraud, I try to provide retailers/providers with insufficient security systems (remember target?) as little info as possible. Through this process, she was demonstrating a debate like approach with me, the customer, and clearly was paying more attention to the info she required, even if she really needed it or not, than my experience with her & her office. At that point I got off the phone with her, called VSP and what a difference in customer service and attitude! Within 90 seconds the rep had me confirmed, reviewed my benefits and began calling Moon & Chan to confirm I was covered - all while I was still on the phone. We ended up on the phone with what appeared to be an office manager who after the VSP rep & I explained my experience, apologized and said she had a few new folks in training. I replied I understood - no problem - as I had just trained someone earlier that day. So all is good, right - well, not so fast... Upon arriving two days later for my appt., I encountered the same receptionist I had spoken to over the phone. Same drill - I need your vision insurance info (which the office manager already took over the phone and confirmed it was in her computer). I stated that VSP was "cardless" so then she moved to the next item asking again for my "medical insurance" and again stated it was again "for the file in case any medical procedures were done during my exam" upon my asking. At this point I again shared my original response that we would cross that bridge when we got to it if needed. At that point she demonstrated a strong attitude and while still interacting with me at the counter, stopped looking at me or communicating with me. I tuned around and took a seat to begin filling out my medical history/background which I was totally fine providing only to realize this was a horrible experience. I walked back to the counter gave her the clipboard back and gathered my license and left. What seemed like it could have been a great relationship was ruined by a snotty receptionist more focused on checking off a checklist of boxes in front of her than my experience with her office. Lesson to Moon & Chan - don't sacrifice customer experience for your own data requirements, especially for data you don't even need! Time to keep training.!!! read more

Dr. Moon is the kindest Dr. I've ever met! I had some debris stuck in my eye and made an appt to get it out. She got me in right away and when I arrived she remembered me from when I was 2years old (I'm 30 now and haven't been to her office since I was 2). She remembered my parents and everything. She instantly made me feel at ease and above all got the debris out of my eye efficiently and painlessly. I highly recommend this office. The staff is helpful and the office is really clean. Doctors Chan and Moon are the best! I have a very complicated prescription, and since Dr. Chan has been refracting my glasses they have been perfect. I have been a client of his for over 12 years . They have the best selection in frames and frequently get in new styles so I want a new pair each year even if my prescription has not changed. I rely on the excellent Opticians who help me pick the best frames for my face, coloring, and personality. I wear different frames according to what I am wearing or my mood, and always get compliments on my glasses. I also pop in and get them adjusted whenever I feel the need, and they take care of me quickly with no charge. I recommend Dr. Chan & Moon to everyone I know. read more
