Dr. Hagele is excellent. He removed my cataracts (both eyes) and inserted stents to reduce my eye pressure caused by glaucoma. He kept me informed and relaxed through the process. I originally called Layne Christensen OD and spoke to Carlie who felt I should be examined sooner than their office can manage, so she recommended SVME. Wow. I asked about the terrible Yelp reviews for SVME and she explained that since they have a lot of doctors there are a lot of scheduling issues, but the doctors themselves are great. I spoke with 2-3 different front desk staff at SVME, they were polite and followed through on getting me a walk-in spot. They took me back within a couple minutes of my appointment time, the young guy who did the first couple tests forgot to dialate my eyes which made me wait 15 minutes more after the Dr saw me, but was otherwise great and very friendly. Dr Zealear was super cool and though they squeezed me in the same day did not seem rushed, in fact he seemed really thorough in the examination, explanation of results, implications, and recommendations etc. Overall WAY better than the Yelp rating suggests. read more

I don't usually leave poor reviews. Now the less here I am. First off I want to say the Dr's. are amazing. Especially Dr. Haegle and Dr. Woodburn. I have been coming to this office, off and on for 30 years. Last few years, I have been back for routine eye exams and then cataract surgery. Where the main downfall of the office lies is the billing person. I have been told she is one person and is not always there. I have had to contact billing repeatedly with no return calls regarding billing issues. Billing rarely makes sense. Even when I made a full payment on remaining balance it was divided up and then left me with a balance. Main complaint is that she does not respond. And I don't understand with such a nice Professional office, that they do not have someone who is more efficient at doing their job. Or hire help in that department to support her. Makes me wonder if it is a family member who works in billing, why else would you keep a staff member who has a poor job performance. Recently billed for a visit that was the same as all my previous follow ups exams, after cataract surgery. For an amount that insurance won't cover. All the others were paid 100% on follow ups after cataract exams. Can't get it resolved because person doesn't call back. You can go in person and she is not available. You can leave an in person request for billing at front desk but with poor results. And front desk seems to be aware of it. She just keeps sending a bill, with no response and maybe she just figures you will eventually tire of it and pay. Which works. You get tired of dealing with her. I have always had great experience with the Dr's and front desk and optical. Never had to wait they are quick to get me in. But they really need to resolve the billing Dept issues. The complaints go back 5+ years. I worked in the dental field for 45 yrs. I understand how billing works. And not all offices have the same system. Problem here is lack of effort to contact the patients. Whether it be neglect or not enough people to do their job. Either way I cancelled my last follow up appointment because I don't trust that I am being billed correctly. Since I can't talk to the person in charge. read more

Was referred to this business for possible cataract surgery by my optometrist (I'm 67, female). Long story short, consulting surgeon at Sierra Medical offered a procedure to help with reading vision for $1,000 on top of out-of-pocket insurance deductible. Procedure was never fully explained to me (apparently power for one eye is for short distance, one eye for long distance) and end result was horrible. 3-week follow-up with surgeon, my complaints were pretty much dismissed and I was told to call back in 4-6 weeks. For the next 7 weeks, I had constant headaches and a profound imbalance in my vision. After researching the subject, surgeon should have first done a "test run" with contact lenses to simulate the actual eye reaction to monovision before surgery. As of today, I now have to put a contact lens in one eye to balance out my vision and end the headaches. What a waste of money. read more

I am absolutely amazed how much my vision has improved: I now see details I haven't seen in years; such a tremendous difference in my daily life. As a bibliophile, having great vision without the need for glasses, is a dream come true. Living in the forest, my trees are in sharper focus then I can recall. Everything Just Looks Better! Dr. Hagele's clarity when explaining the procedure for cataract surgery was of great help. He is a skilled surgeon, very precise, and the outcome of this is more than I could have hoped for. He also is very kind and caring. I never doubted his decisions. He had my trust. I am eternally grateful. The surgical team was exceptional...in synchrony. No wasted time. So good at their jobs. I haven't had any problems with the eye exams. My problem has been with the optical dept. I was told to wait at least six weeks for my glasses. I have waited five months. I have called four times and had to leave a message asking if my glasses are ready. I get no response and no one ever answeres the phone. I have gone way too long without glasses and do not suggest you buy your glasses from them. This is in no way acceptable. read more

I went for my son, the first time we went we waited 50 plus mins, I booked a second appt because he needed to be seen about 6 months after, knowing I had to work after, I booked it at 915, I arrived at 910, they took us back at 925 and by 950 we were walking out because we had not been seen yet. We waited 40 plus mins today. Staff is very nice, office is very nice. It's not worth my 30 min drive from auburn, to wait 40 plus mins with a 1.5 year old, only to have to drive to Roseville for work after sitting for 40 or more minutes. read more

Great doctors but they have awful time management. Unfortunately all six of my clients come here for exams routinely so I'm here quite often. You will not see the doctors until at least an hour after your appointment time, so expect to be here for 1.5 to 2 hours from start to finish. Highly recommend going elsewhere. I scheduled this appointment almost 2 months ago. I explained that I would be traveling from truckee (2+ hours with construction). This was a huge appointment for me. A consultation for a surgical procedure. When I arrived I was told that they tried to contact me to reschedule the appointment. The doctor was not in. I just went back and looked through my calls. I didn't have a missed call, but I did have a message. I was out of town in and out of service. I had come home from our vacation early to make it to this appointment. I had both my kids with me. The front desk girl just kept putting it on me like, "we called you." Shoot. If this is how you're running ship over there I surely don't want you touching my eyes. If Dr. Lang feels it's cool to call off on patients, maybe it's time for a new career? Retirement? I have been to this facility quite a few times and I have mixed reviews. In recent visits, it was excellent at the front desk as they got my records to me. One of the biggest problems which is ongoing nearly every place I go and esp. with doctors offices is the lack of good communication. In the past, it has been spotty esp. from a doctor I saw there who gave me a prescription but did not tell me I had to put drops in my eye twice a day. In fact, this has been a constant problem between this office and pharmacies. But it obviously is the fault of the doctors as I have discovered. I needed to be seen ASAP after dealing with eye pain for a month that had significantly worsened over the weekend. I called first thing Monday morning and they sensed my discomfort and got me in at 9:00am. I arrived and was greeted right away by friendly staff. They then told me to have a seat and they would call me back soon. Before I could even sit, they called my name and took me to the exam room. After the initial questions, the Dr. was in within moments and the exam was completed in a friendly and efficient manner. The eye drops the Dr. put in my eye gave instant relief and my prescription was ordered accurately. They scheduled a follow up and really were so efficient, friendly, and caring. When I finally asked what the wait was about, they told me that it would be another hour before the doctor showed up. I've been waiting three months for this appointment, but I had to cancel it because I had to return to work. They made me another appointment next month. We'll see. read more

Maybe I'm a one-off but, I had a 3:15 pm appointment and by 3:50 pm I was still waiting in the waiting room. No one stopped to ask me if I'd been helped or to tell me how much longer I would have to wait. Sadly, there were many people in my predicament -- waiting. My appointment was with Dr. Zealear. My wife had the same experience (long wait) in the past and simply told the desk she would make an appointment with Dr. Hagele as he doesn't make his patients wait. Over the years I'd received competent doctor care, but the front desk staff bring that way down with their snippy spoiled attitudes of privilege. YUK! I'd realized that's been keeping me away! It'd been many years since I'd been in, and my glasses really needed to be adjusted. They would no longer stay on my head! Apprehensively I stopped by to see if the optical shop could help, as I was afraid I may do more harm than good trying to fix my frames myself. I felt very lucky to have caught the shop at a good, relatively quiet, time and to have received the assistance I did from a young lady who went beyond the call of duty to make my glasses useable again! I wish I knew her name (no visible name tag). I had a lot going on that day and unfortunately didn't think to ask her what her name is. She brought my rating up 2 stars! After 30 years - am changing to a new practice. One too many times of waiting 40 minutes before into exam room. Just left to sit there with no contact at all . I understand Covid but this is the only place that consistently leaves you in the waiting room for 40+ minutes. This place has the worst front desk staff I have EVER experienced. They don't think to tell you ahead that if you are late for your appointment you will not be seen. I ended up going to Eye to Eye and seeing Dr. Borsky. Unfortunately I was referred back to Sierra View. The doctor was so nice. However once the glasses arrived I stopped by the office for a question about them. There was 1 person being assisted and nobody else waiting. It took 1 HOUR to get my question asked and answered. The question...do these lenses match the prescription? I got frustrated waiting and went to the reception desk where 4 ladies were working. The girl with the dreads was completely unhelpful even though she knew I had been waiting she made Zero effort to find out what the delay was. She just shrugged and told me they must be busy. With 4 staff at the desk, one person could have helped me. I decided to just stand silently at the front desk until I was dealt with. FINALLY one of the ladies called to Paige to find out what the delay was. Paige came out instantly and went over what was wrong with glasses. Paige was super nice. It's pretty lucky there is not much competition for these services in Grass Valley because this place probably couldn't make it anywhere else! read more

The front desk employees are snippy and dismissive. The clientele is mostly the elderly and I have seen that they are not treated very well on many occasions. I am able to navigate the receptionist area's general rudeness but it is unacceptable. I also find fault with the Ophthalmology Department where every single woman working there talks so loudly and quickly that the experience is pretty distasteful. Please stay away from this business unless you have hours to waste waiting and waiting and waiting. For my annual exam I was there for just over 2 1/2 hours! I was one on one with the Dr. for maybe half an hour. All the rest waiting for him, waiting in the next little room then waiting after drops were in for another half an hour. I had to go back for contact fitting 2 weeks later and couldn't bear the thought of waiting again like that. Well, guess what? This time was 1 /12 hours. Waiting waiting waiting. I asked a staff how much longer at one point and she said 10 to 15 minutes..... half an hour went by and FINALLY the Dr. let me on to the little room and asked 4 times if I was wearing my contacts. I said yes.... at this point I was freaking out. I said my time was valuable too. Turns out he thought I was there for an exam and not the follow up. I can go on about the front desk staff too. Wow, if I had read these reviews, I would never have gone to this place! But, I guess that complaints are easier to write and satisfied customers, like me, don't take the time. Dr. Hagele, literally, saved my eyesight! I thought I was having migraines (even though I'd never had them before) so I kept going to my family doctor. They gave me pain pills but, thankfully, referred me to Dr. Hagele! I was given a next day appointment, taken right in and found that I had glaucoma, with eye pressure of 50! Because the pressure was so high and had been going on for so long, he referred me to a specialist in Sacramento and THAT office put me off...another story...Dr Hagele gave me his personal cell number and continued to reach out to the other doc, until I got in. He also personally called Quest Lab for emergency blood tests and advocated for me when they refused me as a walk in patient. He went so far beyond what I consider to be excellent care! I have followed up with Sierra View and I have never had any wait time (neither have other patients seen while I was there) and this was even through COVID! I cant recommend Dr Hagele high enough. You do yourself a disservice if you let these negative comments about wait time and billing keep you from calling the best eye specialty clinic in our area! read more

Giving three stars because there were a couple of bright spots within my experience here, but some significant negatives as well. First off, the care received from Dr. Woodburn & the medical staff was exceptional. Also, Cindy in Optical was helpful, friendly and patient. She spent a lot of time with my 12 yo daughter to make sure she got exactly what she wanted. Another positive .. Optical department has TONS of frames to choose from. Not so positive... some front office staff members are just straight up rude and unprofessional. Not sure what else to say about it. Front desk check-in person was condescending and visibly annoyed that I asked her a question instead of just signing in like she demanded. No eye contact, a loud displeased sigh, and a "I'll be with you in a minute ma'am". I was embarassed for her. Some Optical staff were no better. Another sign in sheet .. I was the only name on the list but was made to wait while two staff members chatted and another ripped those track-printer holes off of the side of her forms. Lots of people standing around but none seemed willing to help a customer with a quick pick-up. They seem annoyed that they have to interact with people. Such an odd vibe. read more

I have been a patient of this office for a few years and have recently had a set of extremely frustrating interactions with their billing department. They initially billed me incorrectly for my visit, a bill that I paid with a check (although their form only has prompts for credit card numbers, which I refuse to send through the mail). I then received another bill for the remaining balance, which I also paid with a check through the mail. Unfortunately they never cashed that check, so I later received a letter alerting me that they would be sending my account to collections. They claimed that they had sent me multiple notices, when I had actually only received the two original bills (which I paid). I also noticed that they wrote the letter on December 3rd, but failed to mail it to me for two weeks. I immediately called and payed the bill over the phone with my credit card. Now, almost two weeks later, they still haven't actually charge my credit card! I have been calling the billing department daily to ensure that everything went through ok, but they have not returned a single phone call. I am worried that they will somehow (erroneously) decide to send me to collections now despite my repeated attempts to pay the bill. I am SO frustrated and am not at all surprised to see a multitude of negative reviews here. I will be finding a new eye doctor to visit. Hopefully one with a well-managed billing department. read more

First off, I think this is more of a "somewhere between four and five", but I think rounding up is more fair to a business that works hard. First off, Dr Woodburn has been great - friendly, professional, competent, and listens to concerns (and acts on them when appropriate). His support staff are great too, and fun to talk to during pre-exam. My only real concern (and where I'd knock those parts of a point) are that he, at least recently, has run quite a bit late. Front desk staff, however, were helpful enough to recommend a timeslot to me that would minimize waiting, and they were correct - at my last appointment, I showed up and was seen within minutes. So, it could be that I've just caught them on bad days, or that the timing matters. I also think the optical department for getting glasses has been great - they know their materials and product, and are usually quite helpful. I've had a couple instances where I needed repairs for glasses I got there, and they helped - and quickly. Regarding other mentions of front desk staff, I've never seen them be rude, but I have seen them be somewhat formal when people are airing frustrations with them. That's to be expected, in my opinion though. Overall, I think this is a good, solid medical office - they've been good to me, and usually are very helpful regarding any concerns I have. Make sure to ask your questions and you'll be fine here. I'd recommend them to other people I know looking for eye care. read more
