My eye exam resulted in needing new glasses. Per the technician I order new corrective lenses for my current frames. The lenses arrive, the technician put the lenses in the old frames. I can See ! A couple days pass and the right lense fell out. I got it back in. It fell out the next day on the asphalt. I got it back in so I could drive. I took it back to the office. They said my frames were bent and there's nothing they can do to fix it. They put the lens back in. The lens continued to fall out over a couple weeks. They were irritated and a bit frustrated when I came in but put the lens back in. I ordered new frames with new lenses so the lenses would fit right. 2-3 weeks or more I got the new glasses. After trying to get USED to them I still could not see as good as with the lenses that kept falling out. I had headaches and felt off a little dizzy. I went back to the office It turns out the new lenses had the center mark off (pupil mark) by 2-4mm. No wonder I couldn't see. Now back to wearing the lenses that fall out, I wait. I return to the office for them to put the lenses back in and with rudeness tell me "it's just going to keep falling out". I said,"I know this but I can't see without glasses, what can I do?" Again I wait, it's been 2 1/2 months since I ordered new glasses. I'm hoping for 2-3 weeks to be able to see and more rude resistant behavior to put the right lens back in when it falls out ! read more

They rip you off. My insurance states I get an annual routine eye exam and refraction testing for $0 out-of-pocket cost. However, GV Eyecare, an in-network provider, required me to pay $55 for the refraction portion of the exam on the day of my appointment, even though my insurance company told GV Eyecare beforehand that I don't have to pay for the refraction. The insurance company said they would reimburse me the $55, so I kept the appointment. I submitted an online reimbursement request to my insurance company two days after my appointment. However, they denied it because GV Eyecare had already billed my insurance company for the $55 refraction service I paid for on the date of my appointment. What? In addition, GV Eyecare coded their bill to my insurance company as a 'medical' visit rather than the routine eye exam which is what I scheduled. This allowed GV Eyecare to receive and keep a $20 co-pay that they will likely deduct from the $55 they owe me, assuming I receive any money from GV Eyecare because the insurance company paid GW Eyecare on 2/20/25, but I have not received any money from GV Eyecare as of 3/5/25. GV Eyecare wouldn't budge when I contacted them. Unprofessional. Go elsewhere. read more

The endless wait for new glasses. glasses ordered on June 12. was told 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to receive them. this afternoon is 3 weeks and all they can tell me is they are at the lab being processed and the lab cannot say when i will receive them. $1,000 for new glasses and they cannot deliver in a reasonable time, let alone the time they estimate. and to top it off, she wanted me to pay the balance today, when i don't know when i'll ever get the glasses. if they are so in need of payment, they should focus more on service. and if the problem lies with the lab -- get a better lab for goodness sakes. and if that's not enough, the feedback button on their website doesn't work --- maybe they don't really want feedback. read more

I made an appointment in January and the earliest they could get me in for a basic eye exam was on May 13. I received three notification text reminders confirming my appointment and I replied "yes" each time. On the morning on May 13, I was leaving my house at 10 am to arrive in Grass Valley by noon for my appointment. It would take this long due to construction on Hwy 20, when my husband told me he was notified the store was closed due to covid-19. He informed me he specifically asked the person that notified him if they called me since I was the one that made both appointments and he was told by caller I was indeed notified! Well, I never received a phone call nor message on my phone. I called the store and left a message as to why no one bothered to call me to notify the store was closed, when I received another text notification confirming my appointment the previous day? Today a belligerent man called me and said I was accusing him of not calling me and was literally screaming at me telling me to find another place to go! He was a rude idiot and I seriously would not bother wasting your time with such an unprofessional business. read more

Staff was rude and after spending over $400, they refused to give me even a cheap cloth glass case. She wrapped my glasses in paper and stuck them in the paper bag with my receipt. They made a mistake on my billing and I have left 2 messages but no one has called back. There were many other problems also. I was trying stay local but will never go here again. read more

I am not from the area and needed some repairs on a new pair of glasses I just ordered. A darn screw fell out and didn't have one of those small screw drivers. I popped in to get an adjustment and the women at the front desk and assistant were so very helpful. They took my glasses in the back and about 10 minutes later came out and told me they adjusted them the best they could. That I needed to see my original provider b/c the screw is a proprietary screw. Although they could not fix the issue they did a great patch and did not charge me anything! Great service! I cannot give this place a high enough review. Last week, I took my 95 year old Mother-in-law here for an eye exam and to purchase new glasses. It was very challenging for her to get the tests done properly , and the staff was extremely patient and helpful. Dr. Tanya Markas-Meyer was very thorough and patient with her. Even My mother-in-law commented that she was very impressed and that she had never had such a good exam. I highly recommend this place. It is fantastic. read more

I was not due for an eye exam but needed to get a new pair of glasses so decided to order some online. I contacted GVEC to get my prescription and after many back and forths, finally got the information, or so I thought. I had advised GVEC that I needed the information for progressives and they had sent information for readers so when I got my new glasses they were un-useable. It took more emails to finally get all my prescription data and now I get to pay an additional $100 to have new lenses made. GVEC may not want their clients to shop elsewhere but it's none of their business. I will never use their services again. read more

5 stars for Tanya Markis-Meyer, O.D. I've been to a couple of other places, one is South Sacramento and one in Auburn, and never felt like the folks doing the exam addressed the fact that I'm having a hard time seeing the things that I used to be able to see. Tanya Markis-Meyer took the time to evaluate my concerns and tell me my options. She even gave me some wonderful advise regarding preventing future eye damage, something I am prone to as a type 1 diabetic. I would, however, give the front office 2 stars. Having never bought prescription glasses, I blindly signed on the dotted line when the bill came in at $460 (total cost was $918, with ins. covering the balance). I should of known better when the woman selling me the glasses kept calling me "Hon" despite being several years my junior. After speaking with my husband (who has been wearing glasses for over ten years) and getting an earful about the price, I called the office back to see about changing my order for a less expensive option. The first gal I talked to suggested that I was weak for taking into account my husband's opinion, since she is "a strong personality" who makes her own decisions. Strike one, but she took a message and said that they would get back to me. After several hours of them not returning my call, I called back and got the gal who called me "Jacky",which is just a pet peeve of mine. Strike two, but I finally got in touch with the salesperson. We were discussing options when I let her know that my husband strongly suggested that I shop around for a better price. Well, rather than explain the merits of their product, she explained that I had already signed off on the order, so I was basically stuck with the really expensive pair. The next day, I took my order to Costco where I was quoted $159. Do I think Costco's glasses are as good as GV Eye Care? Of course not. Do I think that GV Eye Care sells a product that is five times better than Costco? That also doesn't seem likely. Also, I find it hard to believe that the lens place had already processed and started my order within the two hours after I had left the shop until I made the first phone call to put a hold on the order. That was the explanation I received when I went into the shop in person to let them know the exact moment that they lost me as a customer for glasses was when they more or less gave me the "you're s.o.l." treatment. In the end, I was refunded, but not without some hassle and not without their office manager squarely putting the blame on me . "Well, I overheard the conversation that the salesperson had with you and you obviously took it the wrong way", was her way of placating me. But even with the less than stellar office staff, I still recommend Tanya Markis-Meyer. She is outstanding, and it says a lot that I plan to return to her despite the attitude of her staff. read more

After following up via phone call, I was informed mornings are less busy and they recommended I stop by earlier in the working day. I went in shortly after they opened and I was immediately greeted by very friendly and extremely helpful staff who bent over backward to make things right with my glasses and ultimately me happy. The practice informed me they would absorb the cost of a 3rd or even 4th attempt at getting my glasses right and reiterated over and over they would do whatever it took to get things right. GRASS VALLEY EYECARE is the Absolutely worst experience with a business I have ever had. From the staff to the owner the attitudes were condescending and improper. After taking several weeks to finally fill my glasses order, and having to send my glasses to me out of town, the prescription was wrong. I was then told to see a local optometrist to have them fitted which might take care of the problem. It of course did not. Then when i called GVEC back I was told I would need to wait 2 mos. until I got back to townand see the Optometrist to get a new prescription, when I simply asked for a $700 plus refund so I could go elsewhere and get new glasses. Additionally I was told by owner she would pay for 'readers' that I eventually needed to get "if I went to the dollar store", because 2 mos later when I returned to town, I now had to wait 2 weeks to just get in to see the optometrist to fix the prescription to get them then resent to the labs and needed something I could read with! Initially I was lied to, disrespected, and shocked at the complete lack of professionalism. When I went on to a local fb site called "Nevada County Vents" where I complained about the horrendous service the owner/optometrist came on to the site and personally slammed me and discussed the details of my case publicly. Luckily I did copy the entire conversation, as her friend who admins. the site finally took it down after someone mentioned HIPA!! But too late as I have it copied and am now filing a complaint with HIPA.. Stay far far away from this bunch of completely unprofessional and dishonest people! read more

Customer for 12 years. Purchased $600 pair of glasses that were well crafted, Nobody bothered to tell me I shouldn't do back yard BBQ or the coating would melt and totally ruin the glasses. One month out of warranty and they would not back the product - zero. Not the style of business normally recommended. For that single reason there are other options. read more

Not naming the business, but it's in the Brunswick area...Years ago this was an acceptable place; not anymore! I have been very patient with them and tried to excuse a mistake in billing as just a glitch in their credit card system. To be fair, the exam and Dr. were fine, I had no complaints with her. My frustration began with ordering the glasses the prices were not shown and so picking an affordable frame was a little frustrating. For a simple frame with plastic lenses, no add on (no glare, anti scratch, or uva protection) was over $200. When we decided to pay for them out of necessity we paid $117 down and to pay the rest when we picked them up. I was more than disappointed with my choice and a few min later we chose to cancel the order. So process of getting a refund began and all seemed normal, however we waited a week for our money to be returned to our account, which it was never returned. We had to go back in and explain that we didn't receive our money after some resistance and another week or so, we finally got our refund. All good but no glasses. No big deal just annoying. Then weeks later (yesterday) a message was left on our phone that they repaid us twice and to call them. We went in today to show them via bank records that we had not been repaid Twice as they claimed. And to request a copy of my prescription. The staff became irate when my husband started explaining the problem to another customer who was having a similar "glitch" issue. The Staff then threatened to contact our bank to get the money in dispute. We had to go to our bank and alert them to the issue and were advised to cancel our card! This is disturbing that a business would threaten to take money from an account of a customer! read more
