Chan Oriental Market is a mom & pop market that sells your Asian staples like rice, noodles, sauces, spices, etc. Besides dried goods, Chan also sells produce you won't typically find in any market like various mints and Asian basil leaves that you'll get for less than $2. Located in Bloomington, this market offers much more than that. They have speciality homemade savory snacks like Bahn Bao which is bun with pork meat inside. Other ready-made snacks available are fried egg rolls that you can buy by the count. They also fry fresh Youtiao which are Chinese Doughnut sticks that you can buy by the bundle. These donuts are not your typical donut you'll find in any shops. These soft, savory donuts are usually eaten with noodle soups or congee. However, these are not available daily so if you need them, better call ahead or check the stores early. They also have Jian Dui which are Chinese Fried Sesame Dessert Balls. These classic Chinese desserts are made with glutinous rice flour and the filling is made of lentils. But what I really drive to Chan Oriental Market for is the ready-made Bánh mì sandwiches. For $6 each, these sandwiches are worth the price in my book. The bread is freshly baked and is soft inside but still has that distinct crunch on the outside. There is plenty of pork sausage sliced meat included in this sandwich and you can definitely taste and see the pâté on the roll. The pickled carrots and daikon provide a nice sweet tang. The cilantro, cucumber and jalapeño slices add freshness. But like all the other ready-made snacks, be sure to come early because they go out fast. They also have freshly made desserts and spring rolls ready for customers. In my two weeks visiting Richfield, I must have gone to this market at least 5x times just to peruse the aisles and buy snacks. If you're thirsty, you can also let the counter know if you want Vietnamese iced coffee or fresh squeezed sugar cane drink. Now more than ever, small businesses like this need our support. Because like restaurants, markets still have to battle with rising inflation, demand for better pay, and higher transportation costs to keep supplying us with produce and dried goods. read more

Usually these Asian markets are a family owned business. They charge an additional fee for charges under $10 with a credit card. Bring cash if you know it'll be a small purchase. They carry typical items most Asian house holds need from condiments, canned foods, drinks, snacks, ramen, and kitchen items. The prices are reasonable and store is pretty clean. It's always hard to navigate through an unfamiliar store especially Asian markets, because they don't put items in a clear manner. Just ask the staff and they'll help you find what you're looking for. read more

Asian Markets have a special place in my heart. Having authentic, delicious Asian food is a part of what makes my life worth living. Chan's is stocked with items that you didn't even know that you needed with being the size of United Noodles. It is smaller but is stocked with fresh produce, meat and all kinds of shelf items. To make it even better, the staff is so so nice. I really enjoy this place and for me, it is easier to get to than some of the other Asian Markets. It was really easy to find in a renovated strip mall and has a huge parking lot. The prices were also very affordable; I don't feel like anything is over priced. Chan Oriental Market is located in the Great Bear Plaza/strip mall area on Lyndale. If you are looking for Asian groceries, this is a nice little place because, they are friendly, clean, and it doesn't stink. The only quiff I have with them is they don't have EVERYTHING I need. I always know that I have to make another stop at another Asian grocery store because they don't have certain things. I like to come here because it's not as crowded in there and they are a clean facility to shop in. One of the most important things for me is service, and I think that's whey we do go back there. And then make the extra trip some place else for other things we need. The strip mall just got a face lift, so you should see the sign for their store. Mom and I needed to find some goodies to bring over to Grandma's house so we found this place in Yelp. Located in the Great Bear Center. It's a small oriental market with all of your essential dried goods and frozen foods. Almost non-existent on fresh produce with the exception of some oranges, bananas and onions. Somehow gas prices are always cheaper south of the river and Vietnamese grocery items cheaper north of the river - - specifically chans oriental market. I go there for all my coffee needs, and a friendly face. read more

PRICE GOUGING ON RICE DURING CORONAVIRUS IS ILLEGAL!!! Reasonable price increases for inflation and emergencies may be understandable.... but price gouging 25-40%+ more than before isn't allowed. Overcharged twice here... and normally like this store. read more

This is a medium authentic Vietnamese / Chinese grocery store. It is located in the Bloomington area, and although not as large as the markets in St. Paul / Minneapolis, it has all of the essentials you need with fair prices. On Saturdays and Sundays they sell some ready to eat foods such as banh cuon (steamed rice rolls) which are pretty good. Additionally, they have nice service. read more

A very lovely local small Asian Market that has pretty much the essentials and MORE. Usually I would trek all the way to Saint Paul to get my asian groceries, but now I won't have too! A plus about Chan's market for me is it's literally 5 minutes away from me! The shop is tidy, organized AND there's no smells! The staff is super helpful! Pricing on the products are similar or a tad cheaper than the St. Paul markets! If it's a little pricier than St. Paul I don't mind because I'd save gas $ and time driving there; so thanks to Chan I won't be needing to make the trek! I believe there may be a credit card minimum...I'd recommend calling before hand and checking. Other than that, great parking (its in a strip mall) and reasonable hours (closes at 7 pm). I like that it has Asian cooking essentials such as chou fun, pandan leaves, banana leaves, spices, bean sprouts, all sorts of sauces that are very limited in ordinary grocery. They start selling bubble tea too which is delicious, my favorite is taro milk tea. I come here probably every two weeks to replenish supplies. read more
