I haven't been here in ages but forgot what a gem this place is and that I didn't need to trek towards Columbia Heights to get some Korean finds. Was able to pick up some things I couldn't find at other Asian grocery stores and even picked up metal chopsticks which I've been loving. Very old school Asian grocery store vibes but the staff was friendly and reminded me of the good old days of corner stores. Plenty of street parking in the area. Simple, quiet, Asian grocery store with a seemingly focus on Korean and Japanese foods. I love all the options for kimchi. Fresh vegetables are available and frozen meat options. Great place to grab a variety of dumplings/potstickers/gyozas. The grandpa at the register was pleasant and took great care when packaging the different items I purchased. Small in a retail footprint but large in selections. I'm sure anyone could find what they need in a conveniently laid out store plan. I was surprised at the various brands available for certain items, whereas the big better known place in So Mpls does not carry. Check the drink cooler for a wide selection of bubble tea and other beverages, oh and no Mountain Dew btw. There is parking in the back and along the side street. Kim's is my favorite of the few places to get Korean products in the Twin Cities. The shop is fairly small with only about four aisles but they have a pretty good variety when it comes to Asian sauces, noodles and frozen food- they are definitely able to put a lot of products out in such a small place. There are some produce but there isn't much options and sometimes I found them being not the best quality. What I love most about Kim's is the Korean noodles sections, drinks sections and ice cream sections. It's one of the few places in the cities that sells binngrae samanco, the Korean ice cream sandwich in a space of a fish filled with vanilla ice cream and sweet red bean- SO GOOD! Overall items I've purchased here were good but there was a couple times where items here were overdue or very close to being overdue, so I recommend checking the expiration due before buying. Usually when I come here it's a old Korean couple, who I'm guessing are the owners, they are generally always nice and willing to answer questions. As for parking, there is a very small parking lot in the back but since it's on a corner, I never had issues finding street parking. Make sure to bring cash if you're only planning to buy a few items will be, as the minimum card transaction is $10. What I do miss about Kim's that I dont think they do anymore is the deli food they used to have at the front ONLY on weekends, it was usually japchae (Korean glass noodles) and kimbap (Korean sushi) to go. Hopefully they will bring that back post-covid! They do close pretty early too, so be sure to check out their hours before going! read more

I absolutely love that there is a solid Korean/Asian grocery right off my bus line. Kim's is small but mighty. There's a lot packed into that petite store! Everything I've needed for Korean recipes I've been able to find here. I also love the containers of banchan in the refrigerated section by the counter. I always get packets of dried radish and dried squid. Mmmmm...and I love how they wrap them separately so they don't spill or make a mess. Such a nice touch. Also love that they have cuts of pork and beef that are mainly used in Asian cooking. It's impossibly for me to find thinly sliced pork belly at any non-Asian grocer so it's great to have Kim's so conveniently located. The owners are lovely and very helpful. I've spent over a half hour just wandering the small space, looking at all the options. They've never bothered me and are happy to answer questions. Highly recommend stopping in even if you aren't super familiar with Korean food. Everyone needs a jar of kimchi in their fridge. read more

Wonderful experience here at Kim's! First thing that is really amazing is obviously the selection, I could wander that store forever and not get bored, so much much! The service is as you would expect, people helping you if you need it, and so on. There is also a Korean restaurant inside too! The food looks good but I didn't try it. Also, amazing selection of dishes, I will definitely be back to buy some of them. This is my go-to Korean grocery in town. It's the most convenient for me to get to after work but I'd come out of my way here anyway since they have my fav kimchi (orange label). The Twin Cities actually have quite a few Asian groceries but not many solely Korean ones and the ones we do have are more in the suburbs & they make their own kimchi which is so-so. While this is no H Mart (where there are kimchi buffets for goodness sakes!!!), you can at least get all your basic Korean supplies at Kim's, plus they even have frozen karlbi meat that is cut the right way for at-home grilling! My usual haul includes kimchi, mandu, rice, Korean pear & melon, noodles, fish cake, mung bean sprouts, rice cakes, & pickled radish side dishes. I usually spend between $50-80 each time but it's worth it. Overall suggestions: Salty snack pick: Get that large bag that has a really ugly pic of a shimp on it! It's salty & is soooo addictive. Dessert pick: So many options! Get the mochi ice cream or Korean melon popsicle or icecream shaped like a fish that doesn't actually taste like fish (just cute). Also I think I lived one summer off of choco-pies. Those ind. wrapped cakes are a good bet too. Produce: Make sure to examine the veggies & fruits closely beforehand because sometimes it sits for a while. I'm a regular customer at Kim's because other Asian stores have a very limited Korean section & you won't find some of the Korean produce at other Asian stores. The best Korean grocery store in Minnesota! 1.) Reasonable prices 2.) Super nice owners 3.) Good selection! I'm a bit picky when it comes to Kimchi. We've tried Kimchi at Cub Foods and other Asian groceries with mixed results, but the Kimchi and Kim's has always been consistently good. They also have a good selection of Korean drinks and desserts too. Here are my recommendations for first timers: 1.) DRINKS: My favorite drinks of all time are Sac Sac (Orange) and Bong Bong (Grape). The orange one is a lighter orange juice (not sour) with the individual orange juice sacs mixed in with it. The grape one is a lighter white grape juice with pieces of peeled grapes inside. You've got to try it! 2.) ICE CREAM: 1.) Towards the back of the store in the freezer section, there is a honeydew flavored popsicle called Melona I would recommend. Also, there is a fish shaped ice dessert with three different varieties of ice cream (red bean + vanilla ice cream, green tea ice cream, and chocolate ice cream). I was making a Korean dish and they didn't have a bunch of items. I actually stopped by other Asian grocery stores earlier that day that had the items but I figured a Korean grocery store would have the highest quality ingredients for a common Korean dish. I was sadly mistaken. Also there short ribs for making Kalbi was ridiculously overpriced for a extremely small amount. The ribs almost looked freezer burned and not marbled at all. I was so disappointed in that place. To my great surprise, Sam's Club has the most marbled (Flanken cut) short rib I have ever seen in any store ever!! read more

just moved from Texas where we have access to Hmart and Hana World. I drove for 45 minutes to come to this store because of the reviews. I walked in and shopped for about 45 minutes. I loaded up almost 2 full carts, and then i had to use the restroom. No public restroom. I had to leave and drive around for 20 minutes before I found a place to use the restroom. Then i came back and shopped for another 20 before i checked out. Needless to say, i will never go back. If you cant have the common courtesy to let a human being use the restroom, when they are spending $300, you need to be shutdown. read more

My mom used to drive us up to Kim's from Burnsville about once or twice a year. She'd pick up dried seaweed and 50 poundsof rice and a big ol' bag of MSG and my brother and I always got boxes of Botan Rice Candy. This was back in the day when Botan actually had little toys in there and not some lame stickers or tattoos. Meeeeeemorieeeees.... Like Conor said, If you don't speak Korean and you have questions then you may have trouble. Be adventurous and dive right in -- it's worth it. Be sure to check out the stuff in the back room. I picked up a decent sized dolsot (it's a kind of stoneware pot) for $10 and I've seen other ridiculous deals, like bamboo steamers and woks for a few bucks. This is primarily a Korean market which also carries a selection of Japanese and Chinese brands. Kim's is where I buy most of my Asian cooking staples. There is a wide selection of noodles, sauces and spices sold is large quantities making them very affordable. The fresh vegetable case is small, but always well stocked with fresh produce and their refrigerated section has the best commercially made kimchi I have every tasted. The frozen section has all sorts of appetizers and fish, but keep in mind most frozen items are designed to be steamed and not microwaved or cooked in the oven. Oh, do not miss the snack and candy aisle especially if you are a fan of Pocky or other such items as most are available at a discount if purchased by the case. The staff are all nice and well intentioned, but there are the occasional communication issues. If you are entirely new to Korean cuisine you may have difficulty navigating the store and the staff may not be able to help you, but if you are adventuresome enough to buy something without knowing exactly what it is then you have a lot of food to discover here. I've been on a Korean binge lately and trying a bunch of new recipes. Enter Kim's Oriental Market: this is a great place for all the things you need for korean food you have trouble finding at shuang her or united. Almost everything is reasonably priced and their kimchi is cheaper here than a lot of other stores (especially if you plan to buy the 1/2 gallon like I did)! They also have smaller portions of the pickled radish to make kimbap, sell individual portions of fish cake, dukbokki, and even soondubu for soft tofu. I thought it was great store for korean food and ingredients because they have it all and I don't need to make an extra trip elsewhere for little ingredients.They also have yummy snacks that you can buy to eat like kimbap and I saw dukbokki (when I went on the weekend) that they had just freshly made. I did notice however that their fresh veggies and ingredients I could find at other stores, were a little more expensive here. They also don't have meat or a large selection of fresh veggies, which is understandable for a small store. Overall, very friendly korean women who run the store and has a plethora of korean ingredients for my korean food fix. read more

First Visit: The first time I came here I was gaping at the wide selection of what I thought was a rinky dink hole in the wall. It's so homely and cozy to me! Nice selection for it's size. And has everything I was looking for. Sesame Oil is expensive everywhere you go but I was happy to buy in bulk here and support the local businesses in my hood. Second Visit: I've been looking for Chili paste and all of theirs were EXPIRED. I was so disappointed. (AND If you like Musubi, the korean spam is a NO-NO as well, do NOT buy unless you like discolored, holes in your already mystery meat) - This gets them to 3 stars. But I came in to buy my gyoza wraps and egg roll wraps and wish I didnt buy my wonton wraps and rice paper wraps at Rainbow because here was a dollar cheaper! : The lady was so kind (earning them that fourth star), I did not know about the $10 minimum on credit and i had no cash on me so she said, "just this once I'll allow it" Such a sweetheart. This is a historic market with a nice mom-and-pop feel. It has a great selection of Korean and Japanese groceries. I was able to find everything I needed for makizushi, and the burdock root was fresher than what I found at Dragon Star. But beware to the budget-conscious: sometimes there is a considerable mark-up. I bought some curry powder for $4.50, only to find out later that the same powder was at Dragon Star for $1. In terms of shopping experience, I'd go to Kim's over Dragon Star any day. I was craving for some Korean food so I decided to make some since I was sadly disappointed by Mirrors of Korea. Kim's is a tiny little grocery store that has everything you'd need for a Korean dinner from gochu jang (red pepper paste) to kimchi. Most Korean restaurants don't have fresh black bean noodles so I had to settle for the Chapghetti (instant noodles). Kim's even has frozen masgo eggs, eel, ahi and nori for anyone who is brave enough to made their own sushi at home. I scoured many of the other grocery stores for ponzu sauce for japanese style oyster shooters. Luckily they had it so I could end my search. They even had hon dashi (powdered soup base) for my dynamite mussels. read more

It's jam-packed but very orderly and tidy...they have no end of Korean and Japanese foods...Although I tend to spend a lot of my time looking at things in mystification and enjoy the store just for the entertainment of new foods, they also reliably have items in my comfort zone like KimChi (Though I wish they sold the local Yon's Kimchi brand) and decent veggies. The candy and snacks section is a blast too... My only complaint is you do have to look at sell-by dates here. Frankly, even a cursory look at the interwebs will tell you the are only pseudo-relevant dates anyways, and even if things are still on the shelf they are usually still tasty and good. Staff is very friendly and will gladly explain an item (sometimes though it still gets lost in translation!) or help you find things. I've had some good laughs with them trying ro figure out Korean or Japanese recipes, they are fun and seem to really enjoy non-Koreans visiting. read more

This is a well stocked, clean, organized Korean market -- much bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside. They have an excellent selection of kimchi, gochujang, and Korean miso in the back and a huge selection of mandu in the second half of the store. The staff was very friendly.... although I think they were trying to save me from myself by recommending a smaller jar of kimchi. They did lay off after I insisted the XL jar was good for us... now I just wish I picked up two! read more
