DELICIOUS! First off, pani puri... the water was so good, make it yourself! And at the buffet meaning I could recreate the scene where I stuff 20+ ... Indo-chinese dishes too! The food - all very flavorful (buffet), plenty of food, and since it was a pretty packed restaurant, the food stayed warm and fresh. Everything is vegetarian, but a meat eater like me had no complaints! Paneer Makhani was definitely my favorite! Chocolate fountain with strawberries next to plethora of desserts was a lovely touch! Without a doubt the best Indian buffet in the area! The food is extremely delicious, flavorful, and aesthetic-- a combination that is truly hard to find. Food: * there were 6+ appetizers on the buffet including: soup, noodles, samosas, and vegetable manchurian. The samosas tasted a bit boring, but everything else tasted pretty good. Dosas were also available to order as part of the lunch buffet. * for entrées, there were several curries on the buffet line, but my favorite was definitely the Paneer Makhni! It had an amazing zesty taste that tasted perfect with the naan. The best naan here is definitely the garlic naan, especially when it's fresh out the kitchen! * for desert, the gulaab jamuns were delicious. They had the ideal amount of softness and tasted even better when paired with the ice cream. There were a couple other Indian sweets you could try, but after the buffet I was too full to try them! :) * there was also a chocolate fountain you could dip strawberries in which was pretty cool! Their staff also takes you for granted, specially the guy who handles the customer reception area is very rude. Was visiting New Jersey and my friend brought me here as he came to this restaurant pretty often. The place is spacious and clean with nice decors. They were packed, but we were able to get a seat not too long. There's a lot of variety of food which I felt taste quite good, strong but not too strong. We did like their naan and the curry sauce. I enjoyed the Indian dessert counter the most since the desserts are harder to find. The staffs were friendly and quick to refill water and change our dishes. I will say though, there is always some random dish there that doesn't belong on the menu (like a Mexican or pasta dish). Buffet food is fresh and always being replenished quickly. Let's start with naan, they served doughy pieces of triangle unlike naans that are meant to be fluffy, light and butter brushed pieces of heaven. Why do I get sour dosas in most Indian restaurants? Why!? Choole was flavorless and watery. Pink Panner was underwhelming, if only could eat with our eyes that would have hit the spot. The samosas and veg fingers were ordinary. The brown ball(don't remember the name)gravy wasn't anything that I will remember beyond this review. At this point I was done and ready to leave but gave the sweets a try, as the place boasts of a huge variety of sweets.The question is, will you go for a buffet for only sweets which btw were nothing great. The best Indian food I have ever had. The staff was very polite, the food was hot and delicious, the the aroma of the restaurant was amazing. I was only visiting NJ, but you bet I'll be back here of I'm ever in the area again! The Tika Paneer was rich and delicious, and the Kashmiri Rice, which I doubted at first (fruit, veg, and nuts?) was to die for. The Naan is excellent, and the raita is wonderful too. There were many options in the starters and the gravy tasted really good. 4/29 : I recommended my friend to try the lunch. We all had the same expression "Naaaaa.." the taste is very blend. The weekday buffet has a different menu each day. First time I went here was a Friday and the food was fantastic. There's not one thing I could complain about. Fast forward 2 weeks, I went with a colleague on Monday and neither of us were a fan that afternoon. Monday buffet: Daal wasnt fully cooked, bland and had no taste, the Paneer curry was too liquidy, wish the gravies was more thick (Is that the strategy here?), dosa is really okay. Their garlic naan is amazing!!! Ask them to make it crispy and its so much better. I could eat them plain and still enjoy it. The mango lassi is good as well. Their chaats look very tempting but who's gonna make it for me lol I'm not the best at putting it together. Definitely recommended for lunch buffets. I'm a big carnivore but was oddly curious to try some vegetarian food. Seeing that the selections in my area are fairly limited, I started searching and Chand Palace popped up as a place to try; plus I'm a big fan of Indian food = no brainer! Be warned previous reviews are correct in that the place can get busy, as I was quoted a 30-45 minute wait, but fortunately the wait wound up only being about 20 minutes. The restaurant is decorated elegantly with nice dark woods, contrasting paint scheme, nice recessed lighting, and very modern altogether. Before going on to the food, note that I'm not an Indian food expert, so many of the food names I google searched them afterwards. There were several patties which were Pakoras, Samosas, and Tikkis and all were fried nicely (I've eaten Samosas and Pakoras that were way too oily). There was a yummy rich yogurt rice, an awesome fried rice, and tasty basmati rice. The Paneers was exceptional, as both the Palak Paneer and Paneer Tikka Masala were just awesome. I could have eaten heaps of Basmati rice or piles of the tasty supplied naans (garlic and plain) in conjunction with the Paneers curry sauces. The dessert area was nicely apportioned with at least 9-10 different types of Indian delicacies ranging from Gulab Jamun (my favorite!), Jalebi, Ras Malai, and some others (that I do not know the names of). Smack in the center of the dessert table was a chocolate fountain which I found odd for an Indian restaurant, but I love chocolate so no problem here. I can't finish off my dessert praise without mentioning the pistachio ice cream. This was some of the best pistachio ice cream I've ever eaten. It was so rich (almost gelato creamy) with tasty fresh pistachio nuts embedded into the green goodness. I had to get two helpings! The service was excellent with the waiter re-filling my water glass often, asking if more naan or dosa was needed, and removing used plates. There were two floor managers who also helped refill water and inquired if I was enjoying the food. They seemed genuinely caring of my opinion. Vegetarian or not this food is awesome. I'll be honest. The food here is above average....but, the atmosphere absolutely sucks. For one, there are a lot of children running around screaming at the top of their voices. While this is a prevalent theme in quite a few Indian restaurants in NJ, there are some (eg: Spice Melange in Metuchen) where I've not seen this kind of a free for all. Plus, there is a sink right near the buffet table. So, while you're helping yourself to the food, you get the pleasure of seeing people gargle right next to you. I think that's done by design so that people limit themselves to at most one trip to the buffet line. What makes it worse is that the service is terrible. There seems to be only one person running the show. This lone server is probably a Zen master, because while he seems to be running around ragged, he's resisted the temptation to drop kick any of the children who bang into his leg as they're busy trying to run and hide from their siblings/parents (or maybe it's from that 80 year old who's taken our her dentures and is busy gargling in that sink for all to watch). If you're looking for a natural form of birth control, I'd recommend going to this restaurant...the sheer cacophony associated with children running around will shrivel your ovaries or testicles for a whole month. read more

Chand Palace is certainly a popular place among the Indian community in New Jersey. They have tables that seat 10 people or that seat 2 people. Very family friendly and pretty good service. It was filled on a Friday night, where the vegetarian buffet is available for about $18 (makes it easier on you - no menu's!). We were seated immediately and headed straight for the buffet. I've never been to a vegetarian Indian buffet, so I'm usually used to my masala's and tandoori's, but you know what, why not try everything? There's a good variety - you have a little salad bar, your typical chutney's, naan, and lots of delicious fried foods. Excuse me that I cannot recall the names (thankfully they are all properly labelled and each have a description of what is inside and if there is garlic or onion used). Noodles, rice, flavorful (almost too much - it's very spicy!) sauces. There's also ice cream (lemony vanilla!) and other sweets. Overall good experience. This place would get a four, but $17 seems a bit pricey for a vegetarian buffet. That being said, the food was great -- hot (temp and spice) and flavorful. They had a wide variety of appetizers (including samosas) as well as delicious curries. There was even a chocolate fountain amid the various desserts! Also of note, the buffet prices vary considerably during the week: Weekday lunch: $10 Weekday dinner: $14 Weekend lunch: $13 Weekend dinner: $17 So, perhaps they will get a four once I check out the lunch buffet. Apart from home cooked Indian, this is the best vegetarian Indian food I have ever had. Very good quality and it has flavour. The lunch buffet is about 11$ per person and includes a very good spread. I kept going back for the Palak Makai. They also had a very good dish with paneer, forget the curry type however. There was Sambar and a minestrone soup (not sure why this was available at an Indian buffet). Make sure to leave some room for desert as there is an ice cream, jalebi, flavoured kheers, etc. Arrived early but when we left there was a good crowd. Water service was very good and we were constantly filled. Will be back here again. My only complaints are that tip is factored into your bill with an automatic 15% and they fill in the tip amount as 0$ on your receipt, not sure if this is legal? 1/2 star off for that and another 1/2 star off for no meat dishes. The best vegetarian Indian food i have had anywhere, although i have only been to a handful of Indian restaurants. I am a huge fan of the curry and these guys make some of the best. The price per person is mid range, not cheap but not expensive. Tip is included in the bill, service is consistently good. I never understood people complaining about the automatic gratuity, just think of it as what it costs to eat here, and that you don't need to tip at all after, so it doesn't matter. Don't eat here if its too expensive, there are many crappy cheap places, you get what you pay for and this place is worth what i paid. read more

Vegetarian's wet dream! I work right by Chand Palace, so my boyfriend and I dropped in for a quick lunch which actually turned in to a slow one, which of course, I did not mind! When we walked in , we asked to see the menu. My boyfriend, surprised at me for not immediately considering the buffet. This was because I normally have maybe two to three things I can eat safely when going to our normal spots. But then it just hit me: its *all* vegetarian! And it's so so delicious. Everything was on these big hot plate machines which kept the food nice and deeply warm, perfect for the 10 degree weather outside. Many appetizers from soup to chaat options. And then all the amazing veg dishes. My favorite was their saag which I ate copious amounts of. They had a vegetable stir-fry dish which was peculiar but chock full of fresh veggies which just makes me melt inside. They gave us a basket of naan each (both plain and garlic) and a dosa/crepe each which was fantastic and one of the best ever! I ate so much but then realized they had a separate little table for desserts. They definitely get mad props for trying because most Indian buffets will have maybe one dessert or rice pudding - they had a banana custard/pudding, some peanut caramel chewie things, delicious ice cream, and so on. A great, light ending! Service was amazing. Everyone was coming up to us, talking, constantly refilling water and generally just being friendly. The decor was fresh, clean. There was a cute little fireplace by us, which was very comforting. Overall, amazing buffet. I am ecstatic that I found it. If you are vegetarian, as I am, you are in for an insanely real treat. WOW. I ventured to Chand Palace on a Saturday morning for their brunch buffet. I think it was around $15/person. I was so impressed and happy with the experience and left with the all too well-known "I'm so full, it hurts" feeling. I promptly went home and took a nice nap, thanks to the food coma that Chand Palace put me in. The restaurant is clean, beautifully decorated, and the service was on point. Both things that I would gladly pay an extra few dollars for at a buffet. For example, we never had empty water glasses. The naan and garlic naan that come with the buffet was some of the best I've ever had. Dosas are served as an appetizer to the table as well. The buffet itself is presented beautifully and all of the food was delicious. The Paneer Tikka Masala was out of this world, and honestly, everything I tried was delicious. They had white rice and a delicious chili rice. The chickpea salad was so tasty. It's a vegetarian buffet but everything is rich and flavorful, you really don't miss the meat at all. Dessert table can't be forgotten, I liked the mango pudding-esque dessert and of course, the syrupy sweet cake-like balls (I have no idea what they're called but I know that I can easily consumer 2-3). I really really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be back. I want to check out the lunch buffet for $10 during the week as well. Chand Palace, I'm dreaming of your buffet now. Best thing about this restaurant is that it is Vegetarian only. It then becomes a great choice for many non-veg-is-a-boo-boo Indians to go there. Pros 1. Veg only restaurant. 2. Ample parking 3. Greatly social. Tables are placed so close and there is little walking space .. your elbows / legs etc get a very good chance of rubbing other guests 4. Highly custom-made American accent by the staff at the counter. You can learn how "not" to speak in such an accent which looks ridiculously funny and cheesy 5. Food is good. Not awesomely good but ok. Cons (IMO) 1. Food is way over-priced. People who come here seems like they have money to waste or they are plain stupid 2. Horrible sitting area. Shittiest sitting area award goes to Dimple's Bombay Talk at Oak tree Rd, Iselin. This comes a close second. 3. Better choices available within 2 miles radius, Deewan Banquet and Masala Kitchen 4. Expect low average hospitality if you are desi. Non-Indian Americans will get a warm welcome. You can see waiters speaking to them softly. But this is a common norm at most Indian restaurants. 5. Expect a complete snub if you are a party of 2 people and going for a buffet. You wont be paid heed to. Period!! 6. Always avoid take-away of left over food. You are most certain to get a stern look from waiters and expect 30 minute wait. I respect the views of other people who like this restaurant to a great deal. I am of Indian origin and my wife is Russian. Before we came across this Chand Palace in Piscataway, we had eaten in many Indian restaurants across NY and NJ. Never came close to feeling satisfied the way one is with good, home cooked food. Plus, most of them didn't pass muster with my wife's Euro sensibilities for cleanliness. Then three years ago, we stumbled on this place because we saw it while visiting a neighboring shop. Boy, is this place completely different from your average Indian restaurant! For starters, it is clean. And the staff are actually pleasant and attentive, not sullen or indifferent. The variety of food preps on offer is mind-boggling, and changes daily. The food is cooked fresh for lunch and for dinner. It doesn't sit there marinating and over- cooking on the flame. It is actually fresh. And very nicely spiced and prepared. The owner Sunil Sethi is almost always around. He goes from table to table and makes sure everything is fine. He is a fantastic cook himself. And the service is top grade. We now go every single week. And have practically stopped going to any other restaurant. I have friends who make the (expensive and) long trip across the Verazzano Bridge from Brooklyn and Long Island to come eat here! And from Philly. We ourselves live 40 miles to the north in NJ and come here (even though the Chand Palace in Parsippany is only 18 miles from us). That CP restaurant (in Parsippany) is good, but it's not nearly as good as the one in Piscataway. This Chand Palace (in Piscataway)? I would rate it a solid 9.5 to 10. No exaggeration. I have been visiting Chand Palace for many years now and always come back. I give them kudos for keeping the place strictly lacto-vegetarain. The food has always been, and remains excellent. Also has a wide variety of dishes, spanning both North and South India. One thing I have noticed is that they emphasize the buffet quite often, which is good and bad. It is good if you get lucky and the entrees are ones you like, but bad because you then miss trying the many unique a la carte items. The price differential makes the buffet an easy choice. As far as kids and gargling goes, it seems possible that it might have actually happened, but I have never seen anything close to it, ever. It has always been a pleasant atmosphere when I have dined there. The decor is average and could use a refresh, while I have found the waiters to mostly be attentive and friendly. Chand Palace has a superior buffet. Everything was excellent and the dessert section was unbelievable. Besides the usual Indian desserts, there was watermelon, strawberries and a CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN, and unlimited Mango Lahsi. We came on a Sunday - without a reservation - and the manager was very courteous and told us the wait would be about 45 minutes. A table became available in about the estimated time and we had a wonderful meal. Make sure you make a reservation for the Sunday buffet. The price here is very reasonable - and the quality and variety of the food is exceptional. The service was also excellent. A waitress made sure we had enough water and stopped by several times to see if we needed more Naan or anything else. Chand Palace is definitely a high quality operation. I highly recommend Chand Palace's delicious vegetarian buffet. The menu items are excellent and vary from day-to-day, so the buffet is always fresh and interesting. Each time we go, our server starts out by giving my husband a complete tour of the buffet line, to let him know which selections are vegan and which are not. Here is a suggested plan for the buffet experience at Chand Palace: First, pick up some chaat, biel puri, samosas and other appetizers, and head back to your seat. Then go back for the soup. A warm mini dosa (1 per person) will be delivered to the table -- I love these dosas! Then, a basket of naan or roti will arrive. But be careful not to fill up too soon, because you still have to go back to the buffet for the main course. Back at the buffet, head straight for the paneer dishes -- paneer tikka masala, saag paneer, etc. (OK, this is my choice; vegans can ignore the paneer advice. There are many pure vegetarian dishes to choose from.). Pile on some rice, and, just for tasting, add a spoonful of every other item to your plate. Repeat. Finally, when you think you cannot eat another bite, don't forget the dessert table. They usually have a sweet, fruity custard, carrot halwa, gulab jamun, and the chocolate fountain (which I think is only for Friday and Saturday night buffets -- check before you go). This is a great buffet. If you ordered off the menu, an appetizer, soup, a main course, bread and one dessert would cost nearly $30. With the buffet, you can try out a variety of main dishes, have five appetizers, four desserts, stuff your face with naan, and pay a very reasonable price for an incredible amount of food. In walking in, I knew immediately I found a good spot. EVERYONE in there was Indian. To all my non-ethnic folks out there: If you walk into a restaurant and only see patrons from their respective country at the establishment (e.g. all Vietnamese people at a Pho Place) you know it's legit. Anyways, Paneer Tikka Masala was probably the best thing I've ever had at an Indian restaurant. Seriously, delicious! Tikka Masala is nearly always good, but the subtle flavors in this particular concoction make it stand out above others I've had. Went really well with the garlic naan. Malai Kofta was a winner too. Great texture and flavor. With dishes like this, who needs meat? Although...if they were to make that Tikka Masala with chicken, I don't think I'd ever leave this place. -1 star because of the lack of selection and not so great service. The food though, top notch. I've got two more nights here, and I'd like to go to White Castle while I'm out here, but if I didn't have Kumar-esque ambitions, I'd hit up Chand Palace once more before I fly out. read more
