This is a municipal library located in downtown Chandler. It has 2 stories and is very well stocked. If you get a library card, you have the opportunity to get cultural passes throughout the city. If you go to the second floor, they have conference rooms and places for kids to learn and also play. I didn't even know there are 4 public libraries in Chandler and this branch located in downtown is the largest branch in the system at about 64,000 square feet! I figured it was about time I checked it out and I was very impressed. The first floor has adult collections, study rooms, meeting rooms, and quiet work areas. They even have a cafe to purchase drinks and snacks. The second floor is dedicated to children and families. They have a ton of children's books, computers, play spaces, and story time rooms. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was told by getting a library card, I can check out passes that provide free admission to museums, gardens, and cultural attractions around Arizona. How cool! Will check out the cultural passes another time but did get the library card. They also offer a lot of free classes and programs for adults, teens and children such as book discussion groups, arts and crafts workshops, and story times. Adj: Clearly Comprehensive and Incredibly Impressive Chandler Public Library is a very impressive library. We really like books, so when we travel, we visit libraries, haha... We instill our kids with the love of reading, so they like going to new libraries too. Besides the books, obviously, we like to check out the architecture and the designs of different libraries. Some of them are really incredible works of art designed by famous architects. We visited this library on a SUNDAY. That's right, they're opened on Sundays. This is unheard of in many parts of the country. This was such an impressive library with massive stacks of books on the ground floor, and in the upper level there were lots of tables and chairs throughout for comfortable reading seating, and colorful art throughout that's cheery and uplifting for adults and kids alike. The second floor is also where they have an especially kid-friendly children's section, with tons of kids-sized chairs and tables and lounging sofas as well as kids-only computers. When we visited, there was a kids speech event happening in several conference rooms where kids presented their speeches and we got to listen in as an impromptu audience, what a treat! The meeting rooms throughout the library are available for non-profit community events and open to the public. Overall, the Chandler downtown library is an incredibly impressive educational resource and a gem for the community and we're glad to have had the opportunity to visit and plan to be back when we visit friends in town again in the future. read more

We were around Chandler and wanted to get some work done, so we stopped by at this library. The staff were super sweet. We were exploring the library and I guess we looked kinda lost haha. Immediately one of the librarians asked us if we needed any assistance and we let her know that we were looking for a study spot. She recommended us one or their study rooms. She helped us sign up for a library card very quickly, helped us reserve the study room, and showed us to the study rooms. The room was spacious. She even offered us if we needed a keyboard and mouse to use. I was very satisfied with all of my interactions with the staff. After getting some work done, we went downstairs and checked out a cultural pass. The staff helping us was very kind. Overall, I was very pleased with my experience and will definitely be coming back to this library. The parking lot was also very spacious. Also, huge plus - the snoopy library card is so so cute!! read more

This is a great library for all ages!! Came here for the baby lapsit class. Very interactive and fun class for young babies!! They have tons of different programs for all ages! The kids section is on the second floor which makes it nice because they have their own space. There is a kids play area towards the back. The librarians are super nice and helpful. Lots of parking spaces, with shaded spots too. Outdoor lawn area for a nice day out. This library is in a great location because you can walk nearby and there are tons of restaurants to choose from! read more

I was in the area early so I stopped by this library. This was my first time visiting and parking was plentiful with shaded spots. I walked around a bit and noticed some study rooms, seating by the windows and tables, and a section for children upstairs. There's also a cafe which is a nice touch, and they were having a book sale when I was there. I spent some time at one of the tables which had an outlet and USB ports, which I needed to charge my phone. It was fairly quiet considering how many people were there. I didn't need any help but there was staff at multiple service points if I had questions. I'd consider getting a library card if I lived closer! read more

Like clockwork I go to the library every 3 weeks with the kids to drop off books and get another set for both of them. The entire upstairs is basically dedicated to kids. Which is nice because the kids area is half library and half play center so it is good to separate the kids playing from the quieter main library section. My kids quite love coming and playing. Some days I pick all the books and they just play. Other days they help with the book selection. They quite love the self-checkout book scanner too. There are a lot of auxillary rooms that I don't see utilized but they look like they could be pretty cool. I'm sure those are classes which I have not done. read more

Every once in a while it's nice to check out your local library and find a book or two to enjoy on a hot day. I was thrilled to see that there are free lunch programs for kids during the summer. They also provide water and a place to cook off from our heat. As a resident of Chandler, I happily support both! read more

I had an appointment at the post office next door and was missing one piece of document. I came to this library to print that document and go back to my appointment as quickly as possible. Parking was plentiful and even had lots of shaded spots. I was greeted by the staff immediately upon entering. I let them know I needed to print something and one of them gave me detailed instructions on how to proceed. The library is huge and offers a cafe, a teen room, and more. I went to one of the available computers and realized I didn't have the right library card to log in. I went to the helpdesk and was assisted and provided a temporary login right away. I was able to successfully print and pay for my documents shortly after. I was very impressed by this library and the team here. Super friendly and helpful. I would have loved to spend more time at that library if I wasn't in a rush. I might even go back and get a library card from here! read more

Probably one of the nicest libraries I've been to between Arizona and California. The way they designed this library was extremely intentional. In terms of seating, storefront as well as art being displayed. My son and I really enjoy the kids book/play area upstairs on the second floor. There's plenty to do for toddlers who haven't even started reading on their own yet. If I lived here full-time, I would definitely grab a library card membership here. read more

The children's area is amazing. Brought my twin toddlers here and they had a blast. The other parents are super sweet and my kids loved making new friends. Also on Tuesdays and Thursdays they have free events for toddler... except in august which is when the library staff has to regroup and make lesson and activity plans. read more

This public library was difficult for me to find a little bit by foot. I parked near Arizona Avenue and had to walk north east from there. The building wasn't easily visible from the area in which I parked and there was not much signage to follow. When I got inside, there was a help desk at the end of the walk area. The person there was busy and it took awhile for me to be able to talk to him. I had to renew my library card. I asked him if he had a seed library and he didn't know what I was talking about. I mentioned that the other library had seeds to swap some days as I saw it on their website. He just looked at me like I was crazy. The library was clean and quiet. That is usually the basis of a library. I am surprised that this library didn't offer more like some of the other libraries do especially since it is the downtown branch which usually means it is the main branch. However, the Sunset library is possibly the main branch because it is more often used in a high traffic area closer to the Chandler mall. read more

This library is in an easy to get to location, very clean and nicely maintained, has good covered parking and the staff is friendly and helpful. Love their librarians :) As far as the selection of books, while I understand that a library can't carry every book, the marketing and business sections seems a bit thin to me and could use some def bulking up. Not sure who controls this but it would be nice if the library could stock less books in astrology and cooking and allocate more to the business and entrepreneurship section. After all small business is what fuels our economy. read more

This is an A-plus library. Once I discovered it and hit my daughter up for her library card I started coming in here 2-4 times a week, checking out audio books and DVD's mostly. I can't tell you how many books I read and movies I saw thanks to them but it was a lot in the nine months I was in Chandler. I even checked out CD's and burned them at home so I could listen to them while I tooled around town. The librarians saw me so much they started calling me by name--my daughters name that is. I told her, if you ever go in there they won't believe you are you because they associate that name with me. if I'd known I was going to be there for so long I would have gone ahead and gotten my own card using a piece of mail with my name and Chandler address--if they didn't care about the Calif drivers license that is. I guess I never took that chance. Another plus is the wonderful little gift shop and snack cafe on the lower floor where they had not only smoothies and coffee but fudge they make on the premises, fresh chilled fruits, and the best chicken salad on croissant sandwiches you've ever tasted--also made from their own recipe on the spot. There were also turkey and ham sandwiches but I only got the chicken salad it was so good. Even if I wasn't hungry I would buy one and refrigerate it at home to eat for dinner or lunch the next day. So I developed my "rounds" in Chandler--go to the PO to mail my eBay packages, the library to turn in movies and books and get new, the rubber stamp store and delis nearby--my own little piece of heaven. read more

We just moved here and I wanted to sign up for a card right away. It's a beautiful, clean, giant building with good WiFi and friendly people around every corner. There were probably 3-4 people in sight I could ask any question to and they were ready to answer. Beautiful shelving, easy to use and understand, and a great checkout process with updated technology. This library is high on my list. I was able to find books through their website program and check them out without a problem. Went and returned some this morning after finishing them. Amazing! read more

I love the Chandler Library!!! It's amazing to have such a modern and valuable resource in our community. The chandler library is completely free for residents. It has an app which you can get audio and ebooks from, reserve books for hold and renew books. I can't believe how nice it is, I joined only a few months ago and fell in love! Very clean and well maintained with amazingly helpful staff! You're greeted right when you walk in and layout makes sense for a quick trip. I love the self check out area and rental times are long enough for items. I've attended the story time group with my one year old niece and it's definitely worth the trip! They keep the kids section upstairs so it's ok if you're a little noisy- you won't make anyone mad. There's separate computer areas for whatever you need and plenty of space out front to read a book or pack a picnic. read more

I should utilize the fact that I have a library within reasonable driving distance from me. Anyway, it has been a couple of years since I last frequented this place. Although it hasn't changed drastically, there is a cafe that sells delicious smoothies! I was pleasantly surprised. After spending minutes of sifting through books in the used books section, and in the inner part of the library, I definitely was craving something delicious to drink - and I was reasonably satisfied. The library also offers a decent-sized used books selection. I was tempted by the numerous National Geographics they had, and they were selling for a quarter an issue! I was heaven. They have a nice collection of non-fiction, fiction, and so forth. 4 stars for Chandler PUBLIC Library! Yipee! read more

I totally signed myself up for a library card and got my library lending on. I love this library and the fact that you can waltz across the way and read your finding in the nice gazebo or on one of the stone walls outside underneath a tree. This is all located in one center with the senior center and post office block all within a couple of feet. There is a gift shop and cafe when you come in the entrance and an area to eat and use your laptop. They are always having classes here for something or another so check out the website and see if anything interests you. read more

First time at this library and I really liked it. I was using the library to write a paper for a class and study for finals, so I was not really using any of their resources, just a place to sit, wifi, and a plug :-) That being said, this library has A LOT of space for people like me! At other libraries I have had trouble getting a spot with a plug, but not here. I would say there are more kids around, which makes it a little less quiet, but if you bring headphones problem solved. The space definitely makes up for that. The exterior of the library is really cool, with lots of outdoor space to hang out. The interior was not that exciting which is the only thing I didn't like about the library. Although, that might be good if you get distracted easily, like I sometimes do! I usually go to the Tempe Public Library which in comparison I would say the ambiance at Tempe is better, but there is more space for studying/reading/working here. read more

I come home with plastic bags filled with $2 and $3 dollar books from the used books sale section of the downtown library. 2-3 DOLLARS for hardcover books! I use their digital library alot and getting started had some technical difficulties that their staff was willing to go above and beyond to help me fix. Sorry, Chandler Library. You just don't live up to your counterparts in Mesa. Your building is beautiful, your librarians are super friendly, and the fact that you have a cafe with smoothies is very creative. But what brings me back to a library is, quite simply, the books. And you don't have enough of what I want. So many of your books are very old... and when I went to see your "new releases" bookshelves, well, there just wasn't anything there that piqued my interest. I wanted two new books - ones that aren't hard to find. Ones that are on the shelves at Barnes & Noble, etc. When I searched the card catalog, you didn't have them. Anywhere. They weren't even checked out - you just didn't have them. I went to the Mesa library's catalog, found both of them, and requested them. Within a week, both books were waiting for me on a shelf, with my name on them, at the Dobson Ranch Library. Sorry, CPL. I just probably won't be back. read more

By far the best library of the chandler libraries. Ironwood is nice and cool, but it is not tailored to professionals with their own notebooks - there are very few plugs and they are few and far between - no quiet study rooms - very cramped - and the security just swims around you. Sunset is very warm inside and small and zero tolerance for even low conversation. This downtown library has a massive professional study area with hundreds of plug-ins everywhere very cool lots of open area very friendly hosts no security hovering everywhere a nice snack bar - comfortable sitting areas - many study areas just packed with value everywhere you look amazing - can't think of one downside none read more

Best library in Chandler! The building is really nice and beautiful, and there's usually a place to sit down. There is also a wide range of books, from everything you would need for school to the best fiction books. The programs they offer are also very good and helpful, you can learn English, computer science, arts and crafts.... I don't give it 4 stars because I have found several books in not very good conditions and DVDs that simply don't work. read more

I love the library. This one is nice; it can get quite crowded but the atmosphere is still nice. One time I was there and there was a lady bathing in the bathroom. I felt so bad - I asked her if she needed anything and she said no. I like the books here so much that I forget to return them even though they send email reminders and call. read more

My family loves this library so much. Great selection of books, comfortable chairs, quiet areas , computer lab, helpful librarian staff. It really is a place we frequent a couple times a week joyfully. Top notch library. My only concern is that twice now I've returned books and they were not entered in the system. I was in shock to find hefty fees for my family and I. I've pointed this out to an employee recently and the situation was remedied, however, once again I've noticed the same thing has happened again! Hopefully we can straighten this out. The main branch of the Chandler Public Library System is pretty big. What makes this so awesome is that it's not full of a bunch of filler garbage but a lot of cool and new stuff. There are non-cool/older items, but there are some things I've found that seem too recent to be in a library or a little hipper than I'd imagine would be in a public library. The only thing I would change is the way they determine what DVD's go in the "children's section" upstairs. I didn't even know they had DVD's up there and when I went I found a ton of movies that I wanted to see and would never have guessed would be in a section for kids. read more

I would really give this 4.5 stars instead of the 4. I really LOVE this library and have been coming here since well before they had this gorgeous building they now have and have had for quite a few years now. The only reasons why I would give this slightly less than 5 stars are: 1. The outside drive-through bin is really AWFUL!!! Whether you are in a car or SUV, it's really difficult to put stuff through the slot. I have complained about this to the Chandler Library and they have taken my feedback. I even volunteered to redesign this box for them for free, as I'm an engineer and it's not a big issue. Many times I have to get out of my car to put books in the slot and I just hate that. The one before was much better in terms of it being for the user, but I know that one had issues with ruining books and media due to when there are bad weather conditions. Why don't they install something like what the Maricopa County at Perry Branch has for a return box. That is customer friendly and the books and media do not get wet and are protected from the weather elements? 2. I hate waiting for DVDs to have to be checked in by someone, as there is a 5 limit on DVDs and sometimes this may take them 10-15 minutes to do this, so running in and out takes a little more time than I would like. It would be nice if they had a system where a person can check their own books and media as does the Maricopa Country Libraries. This would save a lot of time and be much better. 3. For where the adult section for DVDs, they could do something similar to what they have for the children's section - instead of displaying the face of the DVD case, they can display the spine instead to save room. I like this better. --------------------------------------------- With that said, regarding the negatives, this is about my favorite library for so many reasons. They have a zillion books and media and I love the system that if it doesn't exist at that branch, you can place a request on it and have it transferred for free to the branch you desire to pick up. This is WONDERFUL!!! This is a beautiful library and I love the outside as well as the inside. It is clean and a safe place for adults and children to go. They have something for everyone - the job resource area, a cafe, children's, teens, research, adults sections and plenty of stuff to check out. The library staff is wonderful. I love all the programs they have for the kids and where they can earn burgers, sporting tickets or little gadgets. It's great. The place is space yet cozy. A friendly place to be. I also love that there is free WiFi and they also have the program where you can get free tickets to visit some of the local attractions like the zoo or desert botanical gardens for free. We've done some of them but not all of them. That way, you can experience these places either for free or at least partially free for your group. Kids and families need places to go to that are cool in the very hot summer months. The library is a great resource for so much. And they also offer eBooks you can borrow online for free. Often I have checked out books and decided I wanted to buy the book, so the library gives me an opportunity to do this, to experience the book or media for free. I like also that you can renew online and that you can check something out for up to 3 times. The online renewals and putting things on hold is awesome. And I love that notices get sent to me 2 days before my stuff is due (or my children's) and then I flag those emails and then get the stuff back to the library on time.
