I figured it was about time I checked it out and I was very impressed. The first floor has adult collections, study rooms, meeting rooms, and quiet work areas. They even have a cafe to purchase drinks and snacks. The second floor is dedicated to children and families. They have a ton of children's books, computers, play spaces, and story time rooms. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was told by getting a library card, I can check out passes that provide free admission to museums, gardens, and cultural attractions around Arizona. How cool! Will check out the cultural passes another time but did get the library card. They also offer a lot of free classes and programs for adults, teens and children such as book discussion groups, arts and crafts workshops, and story times. There's something for everyone here.

Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. There were multiple loud phone conversations, including repeated profanity and threatening language, which made it difficult to concentrate. The fifth floor also had no air conditioning during my visit, making the space uncomfortably hot and not conducive to working for any length of time. I genuinely enjoy public libraries, so I'm hoping I just happened to visit on an off day. Based on this experience, however, I left with a negative impression.

Been an avid reader all of my life and I love this library branch…read more Taking part in their Summer Reading program for the first time this year. My wife did it last year and got me interested. It encourages readers of all ages to log the minutes they read over the summer and in turn you can earn prizes and even a free book for participating and reaching certain goals. It has been a lot of fun. We love our branch located in between Baseline and Guadalupe roads on Dobson. The workers there are so nice and friendly. Always greeted with a smile and very helpful in finding books or answering questions from the public (aka us readers). One of my favorite parts of the library is the Restoried section where you can pick up pre-read books at a discounted price. Better than a yard sale. Definitely stop into the branch and check out some books - literally.

They have a coffee shop, classrooms, PC areas, puzzle tables, fax copy print area, etc. Very nice staff member got my friends set up with library cards and their first set of free tickets to a museum using the Culture Pass. They are a cooling center. They have elevators and wide aisles that are wheelchair friendly. I didn't realize I can get a Tempe Library Card even though I'm not a Tempe resident. I will be getting my card soon so I can use their seed Library.... if they have one. I'm excited to go back and explore a little bit. The Mesa branch also has a print out of the monthly events calender but this one is on line only. My friends are almost 80 and prefer a print version. I go to the Mesa Dobson Branch Library and I wish they would upgrade that one as the smell of wet carpet hits you from the first moment you walk in.

Cons: Furniture and equipment are worn out, it's not that quiet (people talking, eating, playing music), seating and computers are too close together (I don't want to be sitting that close to anyone at the library), people using the study rooms talk so loudly that you can hear their entire conversation in the next room over. Semi-private does NOT mean soundproof! It also smells bad at times, and every time I visit, I catch some guy staring at me as if he's never seen a woman before, which puts me on guard despite security presence. Unfortunately for me, the cons outweigh the pros. And whatever happened to the days when libraries were meant to be quiet? People treat libraries like hang-out spots now and library staff don't even bother to quiet them or uphold a level of respect for people trying to read and study anymore.

There's also a room where you can have access to a variety of supplies, whether it be different tools for an art project, a 3d printer, and much more. The second hand bookstore is also here. I'm not sure what the basement floor is used for on the daily but I've been to one of their book sales down there. Second floor has the computers for adults, more books, and a seed library.

But the kids are being taught to play or read quietly so it isn't a day care, it's a great learning environment. We have been to the library a lot this summer, I find new ideas all the time. My review is based on the courtesy of staff, their knowledge of services offered, the convenience of the huddle rooms -availability and reserving, and the items they occasionally have available for purchase. I've come here for printing recently instead of going to the UPS store. Saves me more money. You can submit things to be printed via email or you can print things yourself either from desktop or directly at a set up printer. There is a fee, which is minimal, and there are some limitations to what you can print. I've used the Culture Pass deal and saved the price of two tickets for two adults (online price, age 18-64, $26 each) to visit the Heard Museum. Very cool, and it was our first to the Heard Museum, so added bonus. More recently the gentleman I spoke to provided me a quick lesson on how/where/when to pick up future Culture Pass so I could participate again when I find passes available. Some of the Culture Pass locations you could visit: Desert Botanical Garden The Heard Museum Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art Reid Park Zoo Gilbert Historical Museum Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Arcosanti Sedona Heritage Museum Lowell Observatory Superstition Mountain Museum and several more. Desktops are available for a reserved period of time, and wifi can be accessed without a specific set limit if you bring your own laptop. On one occasion we picked up a selection of music cds for $1 each. Better price than many second hand stores. And I did see they have books available for purchase.
