We wanted so much to love this place since there are really few decent Chinese food places in the area but alas, we did not. The food was absolutely awful. Our egg rolls were dripping with grease. The chicken fingers were heavily battered and seriously undercooked...yuck! The boneless spare ribs were burnt and the teriyaki was over cooked. The prices were consistent with other places in the area. I will never eat here again. I do not know how Chang Long received so many stellar reviews for such lackluster food. read more

I recently moved to New Hampshire from Somerville, MA, where the Chinese food is exceptional. I was concerned about the quality of Chinese food in the area. But I was pleasantly surprised when I found Chang Long. The food is consistently very good. The ownership and management really cares about their customers. Chang Long has wonderful food and nice employees. The dishes are standard Americanized Chinese cuisine but made to order with fresh ingredients. The prices are fair and you can get soup with a combination plate. I had the beef with garlic sauce and wonton soup. It was all great. I have been looking and trying multiple Chinese restaurants in Haverhill (which is an absolute nightmare of a town for good food to start with) along with Plaistow. Thank God for Yelp I would have never known this place existed. While I was waiting for my food another customer came in the employees addressed him by name it all seemed very neighborly something rare now a days and even rarer in a Asian restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a gem of a place. Since moving away from the city and being spoiled with so many culinary dishes, I was hoping to find decent take out in my new neighborhood. This place exceeded my expectations. The vegetables used in their dishes are fresh and crispy, the meat, tender and full of flavor. It's now our go-to Chinese take out place. A heads up, when ordering Pad Thai, it is normally hot spicy, which I like but am not use to, neither are my kids. If you order it and do not like the spice, ask that they make it mild. read more

This food is GREAT! I took the Shrimp Pad Thai to friends in Newburyport, and they absolutely LOVED it. They are planning to make the trek to Plaistow, just to get some more. I love Chang Long. Everything is good there, but my favorites are Mongolian Beef, Basil Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Chow Fun, Chicken Mei Fun, and Hot & Sour Soup. They do the noodles just right so that when you get home and open them they have great texture and are still nice and hot. read more

Food is good, but nothing special; i.e. I would keep trying other places first, but would eat there if friends were going. Have not had anything bad there. I have not tried it but have heard that they have fantastic crab rangoon. Staff is great. Friendly, patient and willing to make accommodations such as to make a spicy dish mild. I'm not within their delivery range (just outside of it) but it is worth going out to get their food. The food is always awesome and the staff are friendly. The orange chicken is great and I like their fried rice and lo mein as well. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the honey chicken. I was expecting a honey glaze but their was so much honey I could have used it to cover a loaf of toast. It was far too much honey and I just couldn't eat it. This is my go-to chinese spot for delivery. The food is always fresh and consistently good. I like to think I am a chinese food coniesseur (sp) but more of an aficionado is more like it. It's not as good as boston area chinese places but up here its as good as it gets. Beef and broccoli is my favorite on the menu followed by beef chow fun. read more

I have been here twice within a week to try my staple dishes that I normally order in Chinese restaurants "General Tso Chicken, steamed dumplings, house lo mein cooked with Szechuan sauce, egg rolls, and a new favorite Szechuan wonton." The Gen Tso was the most tender & moist chunks of chicken I have had in this dish. The sauce was sweeter than I am used to "needed a few Thai peppers" but still good. The dumplings were larger than most places serve and the pork mixture tasted great. The ginger sauce had the right amount of ginger and was not over salty as some that I have had. The Szechuan house lo mein had good texture to the noodles, the shrimp, chicken, pork and beef was very tender and flavorful which made this dish go over the top. The egg rolls were cooked just right, inside tender but not overcooked "not mushy." The Szechuan wonton was a complete surprise. I decided at the last minute to order them and I was expecting a crispy wonton like the fried wontons. I am glad I did, they were fantastic. They had a good amount of filling and cooked in a szechuan sauce w/chopped green onions and not deep fried. I did also order some chicken teriaki which was also surprisingly good. A lot of places deep fry their teriaki but Chang Longs cook theirs in a salamander (broiler) which makes them tender and moist, if not left in too long "mine were not." Overall, Chang Longs is the best Chinese restaurant or take out in the area. I could safely say that I would have to go to Kowloon Restaurant or to China Town, Boston to get food as good. They are more than willing to go the extra mile and cook your dish any way you like it. The service was as great as their food. Highly recommend! read more

As a former exterminator I'm very reluctant to eat Chinese food. The kitchen in this place is SPOTLESS! Not only is all the stainless steel polished, But the floors under the equipment are immaculate. Even the cutting boards look like new. The staff is friendly & always get my order right. The food is always cooked to order right in front of you. My former favorite place caught fire & closed. That's when I found them. Even though the old place is now open, I won't return. read more

We did take out for the first time tonight because of the reviews. Ordered a pupu for two, steamed pork dumplings, house lo mein and pork fried rice. The pupu platter was terrible - no flavor and seemed like it was just frozen food thrown in a fryolator - egg rolls were heavy on the roll and not very much inside. Steak teriyaki was tiny and hard to eat. Chicken teriyaki was good at beginning, but bit into lots of fat and got grossed out. Chicken wings actually made me want to stop eating all together - And I LOVE Chinese chicken wings and these weren't even proportioned on the bone - like 1" of bone hanging off the end. We actually joked that it maybe was pigeon? They also had no flavor, along with the boneless pork....thank god for the generic duck sauce. As for the lo mein, it was satisfactory and the fried rice also was good....not special though. Will never go back. Want good Chinese? Head to Star in Salem. #neveragain read more

We are regulars here and love the food, location and staff. On our last visit we left without our full order. I recieved a call from them before I got home to tell me they were sending out a driver to bring the rest to us, and they doubled the size of the appetizer for leaving it out. They really practice "service"! That was the only time any order of ours wasn't 100% and I've been going there since they opened. Def the best place around! read more

My husband and I ordered Lobster Sauce take out. What we got was a bucket of snot with no pork, strings of tofu and three peas. We called back to let them fix the problem and the woman who answered the phone refused to fix the order. Worst Chinese Restaurant in the entire area. Never never go here. I have been going to Chang Long since they have opened. The food is the best north of Boston and always is on the mark. The prices are great and they always are friendly and go out of their way to make the dish the way you request. The curry chicken is the best I have had and always make it extra spicy for me.
