Perfectly cooked noodles and chicken, flavorful, simply delicious, Decor and ambience are beautiful. Friendly attentive service. Lots of off street parking. I had a delightful discussion with the chef, Nouk. Since I prepare Thai food myself, we had a lively discussion about making laab and papaya salad. So let's start with the good.. Was greeted by the owner who sat us all down on Thursday evening for dinner. I was looking forward to the experience but there were some hiccups. We all gos our drinks and placed our orders in and my daughter and mother in law got their food. Papaya salad and chicken skin. The chicken skin was amazing especially with the sauce. Really enjoyed the sticky rice which looks hard but isn't. I ordered the Pad Kra Pao with pork but Pho came in and I told them we didn't ordered that. Then an order of crab Rangoons came which we didn't order and we list let it sit on our table and about 10 min went by and we decided to eat it since I was getting hungry. I sat there for about an hour waiting for my food then the owner came out to show me what she wrote down and we crossed everything off that came then she said it would be coming out. Another 20 min pass and they deliver my food which was wrong again lol... I laughed it off because I know they're trying but I didn't send it back since I was getting hangry. All the food was great, they just need to get a better system from taking orders and getting those orders to the chef and brining the items to the correct table. To top it off, she gave us our recipe and that was all wrong as well. Like I said the food is amazing just getting what you ordered was the hard part. Sanouk and his family are extraordinary. They're welcoming and make you feel like you are part of the family. They sent us a few free things such as Shrimp chips and a mysterious "Woonsocket" dessert. Sanouk is an example a pure kindness. We liked the food but could offer some suggestions. The chicken skins were over salted. The pad prik king was made with fried chicken that was rubbery. If it was with regular chicken, it would have been a huge improvement. The beef in the red curry was a bit tough. I'm sure other dishes are great. The other patrons seemed quite satisfied. There is no ambiance, the place is a bit disorganized. Super impressed with this place! Place was somewhat difficult to spot as the name is on the window and was partially covered by the cars parked in front of it. From the moment we walked, we felt at home. Mama Lao greeted us with a smile and offered a menu. There was no separate drink menu but she mentioned what was available. No alcoholic beverages available but the Thai tea was amazing - sweetened with palm sugar so it gave it a distinctive flavor. Appetizer - crab rangoon were good but the fresh rolls were delicious. My dish was the pineapple fried rice is one of the best I've tried - loved the fresh pineapple. And it was an enormous serving! Partner tried the pad Thai and basil fried rice and was very pleased with them. Service was outstanding and even got some free cookies and Asian candy. Mama Lao was super nice and treated us as if we had been dining at her home. Chef came out and chatted as well. It was nice to hear their story. From the moment we walked in, it felt so welcoming and smelled absolutely delicious. Mama Lao and another staff member (I didn't catch his name) were incredibly gentle and kind. Since it was our first time having Thai food, they let us take our time with the menu and didn't hover like many places do. My boyfriend ordered the sweet and sour chicken, and I got the beef pho. Mama Lao even brought us a cup of ice for our canned sodas, which was so thoughtful. When the food came out, the portions were amazing -- so much food for such a great price! Everything was delicious, exquisite, and honestly made us feel like I was in Thailand. The gentleman checked on us to make sure everything tasted good, and toward the end Mama Lao came over, joked with us, and chatted. She even surprised us with a little Thai dessert, which was absolutely delicious. She asked our names, gave us Thai nicknames, and said to come back and say our nicknames so she could remember us! I truly felt like I was in someone's home rather than a restaurant -- that's how warm and welcoming it was. The price was about $20/person and everyone loved the freshness and quality of the dishes. Ewe started with fresh Summer Rolls with peanut sauce, Spring Rolls, Lao Sausage, dumplings, Chicken Wings, and Crab Rangoon. my wife and I go on occasion and are never disappointed. We had drunken noodles with Duck mine hot my wife's mild. (and she is Chinese ). Food was great. They are more like a cafeteria now where you order at the register and the call you when your food is ready. Not a problem but not really a sit down with waiter experience if that was your thing. The Coconut soups was fresh and the galangal stood out with the lime as authentic as I have ever had. Sanouk's is hands down the best spot for noodle and rice dishes in the area. The owner is friendly, helpful, and kind and the staff really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. OK - the food! Entrees: Try the Pad See Eew noodles with chicken (my favorite) - they're a little smoky and super savory (ask for a side of chili oil and drizzle it over the noodles). I also love the Lemongrass chicken. Appetizers: The chicken wings are super crispy and you can't go wrong with the spring rolls. Overall, the quality of food is exceptional but the quantity is, too! Typically, one of the entrees (especially the massive Pad Thai) is enough for at least two meals. I haven't dined in the restaurant but get takeout at least once a week. This place is a hot mess service wise. We returned on a Friday evening and got right in. Again,, the dishes come out staggered and several minutes after each other. We did get our wings this time. My hot tea did not come out until half way through our main. Server said it was because "the kitchen was backed up". LOL. ALso had the papaya salad which came well after our mains and it had to much fish sauce for my liking. The dining room was again chilly. We love this restaurant so much that we celebrated our 30th anniversary here! Mama Lao, the owner, did a traditional Thai anniversary ceremony for us. She explained the meaning behind each element of the ceremony. She also played traditional anniversary and wedding songs, translating for us as they went along, and even joined in the dancing. She has such a big heart! The food, as always, was amazingly delicious. We tried some new dishes this time, and everything was terrific. Even the sweet and sour chicken, a standard dish in many restaurants, was next-level. The chicken was so crispy and the sauce so flavorful that it's my new gold standard against which all other sweet and sour chicken will be judged. Huge portions also. As the evening was winding down, Mama Lao presented us with a delicious dessert on the house and sent us home with even more food. We won't forget our fantastic evening! read more

Walked in and was greeted by the sweetest lady who helped me choose what to order and asked where I was from. Great food and ambience! Nouk is the star of the show, his passion for authentic cuisine and making his guests feel welcome is almost overwhelming but it's also refreshing. The small staff is proud of their Lao heritage and it shows. We had the Crab Rangoons and Lao Sausage for appetizers. (Rangoons we're on the house) and they were both outstanding. The Crab Rangoons were a little lighter than the average Rangoon but they were superbly seasoned, a touch more savory than the average. Lao sausage was a revelation in a casing. A light herby, citrusy pork sausage served with sticky rice. I've never had a meat dish that was so light and refreshing. So good. For main course we had the Pad Sea Ew (Pork) and the Pad Thai (Chicken) with fried eggs on both. Coming from Orange County, CA, a very saturated market for Thai, Japanese, and other Asian based culture cuisine, I have had better food, but these dishes were the best I've had in the area. Recently saw this restaurant open and with Thai food being my absolute favorite I had to go!! We got the Thai iced tea, pad Thai, drunken noodles, spring rolls, and dumplings!! This restaurant has THE BEST Thai Iced Tea you will ever get in the area, I am a connoisseur of Thai iced tea, I have to try it anywhere I see it (cause it's sooo good) but this place puts something extra in it that really kicks it up a notch and now holds my #1 spot for best Thai Iced Tea! The spring rolls and the dumplings were delicious and sooo filling!! The sauces that come with them are perfectly made as well giving the appetizers a yummy touch. The pad Thai was cooked perfectly!! Not too sweet, not too sour!! The portion was HUGE I took a lot home, looked like I barely ate any but man was I stuffed by the time we got our check. My husband got the drunken noodles, he said "oh my god these are the best drunken noodles I've ever had". I wish I could have tried them but I am a baby when it comes to spicy food. They looked amazing though, and also a huge portion!! We loved everything! Right now they are still getting the restaurant up and running so I don't think the whole set up was done yet, but it was already really cute and comfy in there, so I can only imagine once the restaurant is completely done how much cuter and comfier it'll be. Many restaurants have outstanding food but rarely have I been to many that have such an outstanding sense of hospitality and generosity. Sanouk's is a relatively new restaurant still in their soft opening phase that is a wonderful addition to the Merrimack Valley Asian food scene, run by a very kind and attentive mother and son duo. The interior is modern and warm with an assortment of guitars on one wall and hand drawn artwork by the owner on the other. Food came out quickly and was some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. Spring rolls were a great crunchy and light appetizer, filled with fresh vegetables and and served with a dipping sauce with peanuts in it. The Pad Thai I got for an entrée was massive, an incredibly fair portion for the price - I ate out of my leftovers twice - and it follows a very traditional recipe. It was plated very beautifully and uniquely. Overall, this is definitely a restaurant no one should be sleeping on and anybody would be lucky to have in their community. After the new year I was told there will be live music, as well. Please stop in and support this hidden gem if you haven't already! read more

First things first. This restaurant just opened like a week before I went. So of course there will be some growing pains and tweaks that need to be made. That being said I'm going to review the food and not focus on how long it took to get it. The food is 5 stars. Very delicious and fresh. We had the spring rolls, crab Rangoon , and I ordered the Pad Thai. Everything that came to our table was hot and tasted like they used fresh ingredients. Now for the service, everyone is very friendly! However, it feels like there needs to be a system of organization for who does what in the front of house. Many different people came to check if we ordered at different intervals. But if it was put into the computer they wouldn't need to check. It was a little chaotic, our entrees came before our appetizer, and the appetizer at first was wrong. We are patient people so we just sat and hung out but if I had a lunch break or short on time, now is not the time to go there- wait a few weeks while they settle in. Lots of positive reviews but not from me. The whole experience was quite bizarre. The owner couldn't wait to greet us at the door, which was very nice. The ordering process was very confusing but we got through it. My friend and I ordered our meals. Her meal came out, but mine was nowhere in sight. Then I realized it was delivered to a customer who was sitting behind me who came in after us. I went to the owner and told her that someone else got my food so I sat there and watched my friend eat my her food and had to wait for mine. Here's the most important part of my review......the food was tasteless. There was barely any chicken in the pad Thai. So I'm wondering if all of their friends and relatives wrote those reviews because I was not impressed. I reside in Plaistow and drive to other phở locations in Methuen & Lowell and I have to say this well excels those places.
