Communication is lacking. No notice provided when issues arise, instead this agency contacts you in the aftermath leaving you with no time to address the issue or find solutions. You're simply left in a lurch. This is problematic considering the sensitive nature of services provided. Staff lacks understanding and simply lines up excuses. Disappointing. read more

AND, the CISS respite providers have always been more than just respite; they've respected and mentored my son, helped him enjoy his life, and helped him become a secure and social young man during that respite time (and beyond). This agency is the BEST agency I have ever had! This Agency hire qualified caregivers and they give them the proper training that they need for our children to be safe and well taken care of. I can't recommend this agency enough. They are personal and caring. The administration office has frequently checked in to see how our family is doing during the pandemic. The caregivers are experienced and loving. They do all they can to find a perfect fit for the client if you don't already have a caregiver. Additionally, they provide good communication which I didn't have with the other respite service. You can also tell they treat their employees well, which reflects on the care you receive. read more

Where do I start?! This agency has been a life saver for our family. We started with a different agency that was fine for about a month until I noticed the respite workers not really doing much. One guy even sat on the couch the entire time working on his computer! I finally found someone through Care.com and they were hired by this 'other' agency but I had to supplement their pay because $10 hr is just crazy, especially if they're good! When I found Channel Islands and read their reviews, found out they pay much more, I gave them a whirl. Wow! The difference is night and day. Channel Islands Social Services is unlike any company I have come across. They are an all around great organization who truly helps their clients and treats their staff with respect and kindness. Even during this pandemic, they have handled this time with such grace and caution. They are generously giving supplies to families. Also, caregivers are asked to practice social distancing (even when not working) to ensure safety to the clients, staff, and their families. We have been with Channel Islands for 6 years and we are very satisfied with the respite providers they assigned to us. They try their very best to accomodate my the days and schedules of my kids and its awesome that they can deliver. I did encounter some respite providers that I felt uncomfortable with and the company was receptive to my concerns. Our first provider we had her for 2 years and the second one close to 3 they both moved out of state and we thought we might not be lucky the third time around but lo and behold we did! This is THE best respite agency - period. As part of our services through Tri-County Regional Center, we were referred to CISS and could not be happier. I interviewed other respite agencies before making our choice. The respite workers are trained on a regular basis, and the staff at CISS took quality time to make sure that there was a good match between our son and the respite worker of their choosing, based on our needs and schedule. Once a respite worker was chosen, we had the opportunity to meet her to make sure that we felt comfortable with the worker chosen. These are the "good guys" and I refer them to my mom friends all the time. As a mom to a child with special needs, I have had to deal with two other respite agencies in the past and CISS is far more professional and caring. They matched us with a fantastic respite caregiver 4 years ago and although she is no longer providing our respite, she is now a dear family friend. CISS also encourages families to recruit our own respite workers and I appreciate this option. They go above and beyond by hosting free family events as well. They are the best!!! read more
