Finally had a chance to dine in at The Empanada Times on a wednesday evening and so far so good. The place is nicely decorated, looked comfy and inviting. The menu selection was not extensive so it wasnt too difficult to decide what to get. From the name of the store, i guessed their specialities are their empanadas and so we gave that a try. Phillycheese steak was first on my list but they were sold out that day so we opted instead to try 4 other flavors. The chipotle chicken had a nice balance of cheese and chicken which was flavored to a savory cheesy goodness. The beef and potato was also good and had that "as expected" taste, and i dont mean that in a bad way. The potatoes made it quite filling. We also tried the cheese one which reminded me of a grilled cheese sandwich. And the dessert empanada, cheese and guava, also reminded me of peach mango pie lol. overall they were good empanadas with a nicely made dough. Soft but with a little bit of crunch. Not shocked with some grease as that is typically how empanadas are made so not sure why other guests are quite surprised about it. As long as its not sweating with grease im fine with that. I also had the pleasure of talking to the owner that day (didnt get her name) and enjoyed listening to a brief story of how they started as a food truck in Jersey city and how they finally are starting another chapter of their business here in Lincoln Park. Would love to come by again some time and hopefully get a better "receive" from the desk. Hoping that next time, whoever is working at the counter will at least acknowledge the presence of their customers and if they need to go back in the kitchen or finish up with something else to at least excuse themselves and tell the customers "i'll be with you shortly" or something in that sense rather than just disappearing and letting us wait unsure whether we can still be accommodated or not. I guess this was also one issue of the review from another customer. Communication and customer-service is key afterall. As it was our first time there that day, first impressions make a big impact. Fortunately that will not deter us from giving the store another shot and visiting anytime soon. Empanadas were definitely tasty and worth a revisit.

Was awesome. I've been to a few empanada places and they were so small & greasy. Not here. Hot fresh made. Can't wait to order again. Thanks again.... I ordered thru Uber eats & was expecting greasy wet bags. Fooled me. I couldn't take photo of food. Didn't last long enough to take photo.

Great little food place. Food was delicious and fresh. Several types of empanada fillings for everyone's liking. The dough was crispy and tasty. The Cuban Sandwich was spot on (Cuban here).. Prices were reasonable. Loved the decore . The place is small, seating is family style which is ok because once you sit and start eating you really dont pay attention to anyone else. Planning on making this place a habit.

I ordered the BYO with yellow rice, tostones, pernil and red beans on the side.i paid almost $13 for this with no drink.

I ordered the bulid your own with yellow rice, tostones, pernil and red beans on the side.i paid almost $13 for this with no drink and I come to find the food isn't fresh it's heated up. Parts of my rice were ice cold while others were warm. Same when it comes to the pernil. Super disappointed. :(

It's a very casual, cafeteria-style spot with a semi-open kitchen, but don't let the simplicity fool you -- the food is incredible and the staff here is friendly and patient. The highlight of the experience is the small buffet that features a variety of freshly-made Latin cuisine -- including pulled pork, chicken and beef stews, and other traditional Latin entrees and sides. You can build your own plate by selecting one or more entrees and sides - which are priced accordingly. As a 'gringo' who wasn't entirely sure what everything was, I really appreciated them taking the extra time to explain all the different options and give me their honest recommendations. The counterstaff is bilingual and were pretty patient with my elementary school level Spanish vocabulary and grammar. I ended up going with the pulled pork platter with two sides ($7) and it was terrific -- the perfectly seasoned and tender pork, black beans and rice, and macaroni salad were delicious and very filling. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the portions are very generous for the price. If you're looking for authentic, home-style Latino food in a laid-back setting, this is the spot! PRO TIP #1: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home to enjoy with your meal. Sazon Latino is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. PRO TIP #2: Sazon Latino offers free off-street parking in a small lot behind the restaurant and there's plenty of free on-street parking on Main Street.

The only thing I don't understand is why they miked the guitar in a smallish restaurant so Smartwatches kept flashed "louder than 90dB" warnings. It really wasn't necessary. But you go to a restaurant for the food. And my food was a 2 with the wind behind it. I had the Chicken Extremena, which is chicken filets with onions, red peppers, potatoes and Spanish sausage. Yes, all those ingredients were in the dish. It was too salty although it did have a bit of a kick. All in all, the ingredients didn't blend well, it sort of seemed like they were thrown together and doused in a generic . A friend had the Veal Corunesa, which is veal and mushrooms sauteed in brandy sauce. She stated that a fine piece of veal was cut into little pieces, overcooked and swimming in brandy sauce. Now, the people who ordered the pan fried filet of fish and the pork chops had good meals. But the chef should be able to do something other than panfry and broil. Last point, I had a chocolate brownie with walnuts and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I am know for my proclivity to eat anything chocolate. I took a bite of a dry brownie and ate the vanilla ice cream. I heard the tiramisu was good. But I didn't have the tiramisa. Service was prompt, surroundings pleasant. So here's the deal. The quality of the food was too erratic to be three stars. The entertainment was very pleasant, so averaging a 4 + 2 equals 3. I have no desire to go back and try again. There are so many good Spanish restaurants in Essex County even outside of the Ironbound that going here for a dinner just seems to be a waste.

We started with the cucumber, pistachio, and yogurt, with harissa and sesame seeds. Like a very creative and refreshing Mediterranean pickle. Delish. We also got the Mediterranean salad. It was much more interesting than your typical Greek salad. Excellent feta, good cucumbers and tomato, and nice little pita chip slivers. They also start you with very good bread with olive oil and some olives. For our entrées we got Chilean Seabass, Branzino fillet, and Mariscada, which is a big shellfish stew. While it's not indicated on the menu, all entrées come with saffron rice, sautéed vegetables... And their homemade potato chips. The person who got the Mariscada was so happy. It had every kind of fresh shellfish and really was enough for two people. I really enjoyed the Branzino fillet, which came with a lemon caper sauce. It was huge and very delicious, I had to give some pieces away. The Chilean Seabass is the most expensive, at $55. For me, I felt that I have had better Seabass and I preferred my $36 branzino. But the person who ordered it was thrilled and thought it was amazing, and gets it every time here. I loved the saffron rice, and the homemade potato chips. I didn't eat the sautéed vegetables (there was just too much food everywhere!). But the person who tried them thought they were extremely delicious. Overall, this is a great place for sharing, with tons of food. And the cucumber, harissa yogurt, pistachio and sesame seed appetizer showed that they are innovating and not just doing your parent's Don Pepe. Oliver was also a super server as was everyone else on the team. And we enjoyed the patio... though I must say that being over Route 46 traffic is not the most atmospheric, and I wish the patio was on the other side! But who can complain with all this yummy food? Looking forward to coming back here next time I'm in New Jersey.
