Finally had a chance to dine in at The Empanada Times on a wednesday evening and so far so good. The place is nicely decorated, looked comfy and inviting. The menu selection was not extensive so it wasnt too difficult to decide what to get. From the name of the store, i guessed their specialities are their empanadas and so we gave that a try. Phillycheese steak was first on my list but they were sold out that day so we opted instead to try 4 other flavors. The chipotle chicken had a nice balance of cheese and chicken which was flavored to a savory cheesy goodness. The beef and potato was also good and had that "as expected" taste, and i dont mean that in a bad way. The potatoes made it quite filling. We also tried the cheese one which reminded me of a grilled cheese sandwich. And the dessert empanada, cheese and guava, also reminded me of peach mango pie lol. overall they were good empanadas with a nicely made dough. Soft but with a little bit of crunch. Not shocked with some grease as that is typically how empanadas are made so not sure why other guests are quite surprised about it. As long as its not sweating with grease im fine with that. I also had the pleasure of talking to the owner that day (didnt get her name) and enjoyed listening to a brief story of how they started as a food truck in Jersey city and how they finally are starting another chapter of their business here in Lincoln Park. Would love to come by again some time and hopefully get a better "receive" from the desk. Hoping that next time, whoever is working at the counter will at least acknowledge the presence of their customers and if they need to go back in the kitchen or finish up with something else to at least excuse themselves and tell the customers "i'll be with you shortly" or something in that sense rather than just disappearing and letting us wait unsure whether we can still be accommodated or not. I guess this was also one issue of the review from another customer. Communication and customer-service is key afterall. As it was our first time there that day, first impressions make a big impact. Fortunately that will not deter us from giving the store another shot and visiting anytime soon. Empanadas were definitely tasty and worth a revisit.

Was awesome. I've been to a few empanada places and they were so small & greasy. Not here. Hot fresh made. Can't wait to order again. Thanks again.... I ordered thru Uber eats & was expecting greasy wet bags. Fooled me. I couldn't take photo of food. Didn't last long enough to take photo.

Great little food place. Food was delicious and fresh. Several types of empanada fillings for everyone's liking. The dough was crispy and tasty. The Cuban Sandwich was spot on (Cuban here).. Prices were reasonable. Loved the decore . The place is small, seating is family style which is ok because once you sit and start eating you really dont pay attention to anyone else. Planning on making this place a habit.

I ordered the BYO with yellow rice, tostones, pernil and red beans on the side.i paid almost $13 for this with no drink.

I ordered the bulid your own with yellow rice, tostones, pernil and red beans on the side.i paid almost $13 for this with no drink and I come to find the food isn't fresh it's heated up. Parts of my rice were ice cold while others were warm. Same when it comes to the pernil. Super disappointed. :(

I know some people judge a place based on the traffic inside. Something was lacking, though, when we walked in. It felt empty to say the least. They had a limited selection on an early Sunday, which was surprising. I really wanted to try the pizza and the Philly cheesesteak but they were out. We sampled the Cuban, Buffalo chicken, Chicken bacon ranch, and plain beef paired with a spicy mayo sauce. The empanadas were tasty, but nothing amazing. We enjoyed the Cuban the most. My other gripe is that there are no sides, fries, plantains, rice. Nothing. They took their name too literally. If they add sides in the future, I'll be more willing to visit again.

If you think they look this good on the outside, wait until you see the inner fillings! Angus Beef: This original version of this folded hot pastry is packed with plenty of angus beef along with sautéed peppers & onions. Bacon Cheeseburger: This may have a similar appearance to the previous empanada, but do not be deceived. Imagine having a juicy succulent bacon cheeseburger in a crunchy shell in lieu of a hamburger roll. Cuban: Here's a perfect variation of the classic Cuban sandwich. The pork was smoked for several hours and it also includes ham and mozzarella cheese. Sweet Thai Chicken: It's time to try some Thai. The sweet thai chili sauce mixed in this Asian style empanada has the perfect blend of heat and spice. Street parking; only a few seats to eat inside. Basically a To Go place. These empanadas were awesome!! Big & stuffed with a very nice crispy, fried shell. Which brings me to my favorite: the Guava & Mozzarella Cheese empanada... Best one I've ever had. For upcoming St. Patricks Day (for a limited time) they have -- The Reuben- filled with Smoked Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese & Sauerkraut. EMPAN-TASTIC!
