I was in the same strip mall needed to pick something up from my doctor and decided to give Chans Tea House a try. I placed a to go order in the resturaunt. The staff were friendly and took order and that was about it. I got a chicken chow main with baby corn. I found there prices to be a bit higher than most of the other Chinese restaurants in the area. i also wanted white rice and an extra bag of noodles which they charged me an addition $4 after the 18 i spent. I got the food home and it was barely ok nothing special at all. I would defiantly not go here again as there are way to many other places that are 100 times better. My husband and I decided to grab lunch here after dropping our pups for a grooming next door. We were greeted promptly and led to sit down in a comfy booth. We immediately ordered drinks and I was happy to try the honeydew milk tea with mixed jelly fruit. It was deliciously different from boba with tapioca pearls. We both ordered from the lunch combo section: I ordered the sweet & sour chicken and my husband ordered the pepper steak. We found both to be seasoned well. Visited in afternoon so not busy at the time. My daughter wanted boba but since the other daughter and I were hungry, we decided to sit down and order food. Daughter liked the fried dumplings and the scallion pancake. Hot and sour soup was fine - more on the peppery side and not too spicy or sour. Beef and scallop dish was okay. Beautiful decor and tasty food! Chan's Tea House is a lovely gem hidden in the West View Shopping Center. The tea served with your meal and Chinese zodiac placemat gave me a lot of nostalgia for Chinese restaurants I went to growing up. Their food is so good and came out very quickly! I love chicken with broccoli and thought there's was tasty. Try the general tso's as well! All of the staff we interacted with were kind and helpful. It was an OK experience. I got veggies with tofu in a brown sauce to go. It was a typical Chinese style flavor with no outstanding features.

Oh this place was great. It was my nana's favorite and it made drinking plain black tea a treat. It was never too busy and the prices were good. It's been awhile since I've been there. I've had friends say it's not terribly authentic but oh well. I still think it's a staple of Pittsburgh. And they were always good to us as kids. read more

We can't get enough of Chan's boba. Every flavor is delicious ( especially Thai milk, mango and strawberry) and is filled to the brim. Most places are 75% ice. Not Chan's. They do not skimp and we love it. Online ordering is so easy. It's efficient and we always get exactly what we order. The food is very good. Our favorite is General Tso and the lo mein. read more

For a strip mall Chinese restaurant, this goes well beyond what you would expect. This place could definitely stand alone in a building that is for sure. When you walk inside you are transported. Like I said you would not expect this from a strip mall. Inside there is a great design, feels like you are in an authentic Chinese building. We were greeted swiftly and lead to a booth. Handed menus and we were on our way to figure out what we wanted to eat. Shortly after we started looking over the menu we were brought water and hot tea. The tea is delicious and you can add what you like to sweeten it or go at it unsweetened. Our service was outstanding the whole time we were here. Every time our server came to the table there was a smile on her face, she was quite pleasant. We went with Avocado Cheese Wontons as our appetizer. Serving size here felt small, but we had to remember that it was an appetizer, not a full meal. These wontons were amazing. You got the cream cheese taste with just a hint of avocado, as well as the green tint. Pair that with some duck sauce and they were a hit. For my appetizer I went with Sweet and Sour Chicken. I have not had this in a while and was craving it. I was happy to have waited so long to have it again because this place did it justice. The chicken came from breast meat. The pieces were longer than you would think, but they were delicious. The coating was great, held the sauce and stayed crispy. Speaking of the sauce, loved it. Nice and sweet with pieces of pineapple, red bell pepper, and onion in it as well. I usually have leftovers when it comes to Chinese food, but not this time. I ate every single bite of this meal. Cold day ------ hot soup. I was in between appointments and stopped in for lunch. As i walked in, a display caught my eye Seafood soup. The waitress was very open with the eggroll origins. The shrimp rolls were the only type MADE onsite. I was a little disappointed that the mustard was served in a picnic condiment container and didn't make me sweat or clear my sinuses. They concentrate on dishes/sauces they have perfected unlike some Chinese places that list two pages of Chef's Specials (aka expensive usually) and another four pages of staples like General Tso's chix. We noticed a lot of folks eating the "pu pu platter" including sterno for roasting what looked like pork ribs. Light white sauce on scallops/shrimp is delicate. Great service. Nice atmosphere. I found the place by accident, and stopped in to get the standard fried rice. I have been back four times since, have gotten the shrimp fried rice every time, and some other generic chinese food item. I really really like the place. It is not your average store front Chinese place that has a few chairs and ratty tables, the screaming child in a crib behind the counter, and greasy horrible food that makes you wonder why you keep trying to get food at Chinese places in plazas. You know the place. They all have that same two sided color menu on a shiny sheet of paper, all the same items, and it all greasy and terrible. This place is an actual sit down restaurant. It is NOT dark and / or dingy like the other review states, must be talking about some other Chan's Tea House... Anyways, it is also not the kind of Chinese food you will find in say, San Francisco or L.A. or New York. It is very typically mid-western Chinese. It looks like something from the 1950's or 60's. Very retro looking. And the food is excellent. To me. Now, I have eaten Chinese food that I assume folks are writing about when they say "real" Chinese food. Since I have been in China. This is not it. You cannot get steamed jellyfish and pigs ears here. What you do get, is very well prepared food, that tastes like what you got when you were a kid, and went to your favorite Chinese restaurant with your family. It is always busy for dinner, a good sign, and the food comes out quickly, and very hot. And, for me the most important thing, the hot mustard is house hot mustard that will lift off the top of your head. I love the stuff. Exquisitely hot! And, the food is not greasy by American Chinese food standards. And, I love the fried rice. It is well seasoned, has plenty of meat, and has bean sprouts in it. Eat here, you won't be disappointed, as long as you don't want something like ox-knuckle soup or pig intestines in broth. Then again, who knows? My family and I drove from Hampton Township to West View for dinner on Sunday night. We had a wonderful experience and the food was great! My grandmother used to take us here when we were kids and everything is as good as I remember. My father really wanted a dish that he used to get back in the 80s/90s that is no longer on the menu. While he ordered something different, we did ask about it after we were finished eating. Our server chuckled a bit and said that we must have been coming to the restaurant for a while. They they could definitely still make it for us next time, we just have to ask. I've truly never had a bad meal at Chan's. I know it's "American" Chinese, but I vastly prefer this restaurant over all of my local take out places. read more

The food is high quality and filling. I always say they give just enough to fill you all the way up and still have a little left to take home and it's true pretty much every time I go there. I've seen different employees come and go for the front of house staff over the years and every employee I've ever talked to has always been amazing. We got take out from Chan's last night. We haven't gotten food from there in at least 6 months because the last time we did they gave us the wrong portion size. This time we were given the correct portion size but the wrong food. We ordered General Tso chicken & instead were given orange chicken. The food that we were given was ok, we also ordered a side of pork fried rice. To top all off though when we were almost finished with our dinner we found a hair in it. It was a shorter hair & my wife & I both have longer hair so it wasn't one of ours. I know text restaurant has changed hands recently but this shouldn't be an excuse. I stopped in here today with my partner for lunch. We reside in Brighton Heights and were not aware of this restaurant, until friends told is that they love it. First thing we noticed was how exceptionally clean it was. We also were amazed at how friendly the staff was. Food was very tasty: We ordered steamed potstickers for an appetizer. They tasted really good, my partner loved the sauce that came with them. I had Kung Pao Chicken: I was thrilled that it came with grilled white meat chicken. I cleaned my plate, so it must have been good. My partner had peppered steak and he said that it was really good. I stopped by here today for lunch with my father. For as many years as I have lived close to Chan's, I had never actually been there. That all changed due to a recent mailing that I received from them showing their lunch specials to be reasonably priced. Upon entering the restaurant I was actually quite impressed by the cleanliness of the place, the decor and open floor plan. They have what looks like an awning running around the inside and some giant Chinese vases. After we were seated the waitress came over almost immediately with some waters and also a pot of hot tea. For lunch I decided to go with the Hunan Beef, extra spicy with fried rice and a bowl of hot and sour soup. The soup came out first and had a nice tartness to it as well as some vegetables and what looked like some ground beef. Almost immediately after we had finished our soup, the meals came out. There were nice portions of both the fried rice and the hunan beef. All of the vegetables from the hunan beef had a nice crispness to them and the beef tasted good as well. The real star though was the sauce which had a nice flavor and also a bit of spiciness although not too spicy. By the end of the meal I was full and very satisfied although not too full and it had only taken us about 25 minutes. I am sure if we had wanted to that we could have eaten at a more leisurely pace but since it was lunch time we were happy to have that pace. The bottom line for me is that I would head back to Chan's again. I enjoyed both the decor of the restaurant as well as the food and thought that the food was better than most of the other Chinese restaurants around. read more

My WonTon soup was as good as always, but my Saturday special was tepid...seemed re-warmed. My wife's sweet 'n sour chicken was "different". She could tell it was a different cook. Used to be amazing! Their egg rolls could not be beat and the family used to go here almost every Sunday. New management came in and destroyed the place. It became just like any other chinese restaurant and the quality of the food took a nose dive. All the old waitresses were gone and we had our order taken by a busboy who had no idea what he was doing. The place was fine before but it seems a bunch of idiots came in and ruined it. This is the second closest Chinese food resturant to my house. With that being said I am crushed to report that it stinks here. The decor is out dated and dark, not very welcolming for lunch. The attitude of the wait staff and owners is poor, they lack any interest in running a resturant that serves good food. The food is served luke warm. The hot and sour soup is stringy and cold . The food is flavorless. There are serveral senior communities around this shopping center , so possbily they're making extra bland food to suit the taste of the elderly patrons.
