This is a wonderful bed and breakfast to stay with during your visit to Door County. They have rooms in what they call the "main barn", an actual barn converted to lovely rooms with a communal sitting area downstairs. They also have a number of separate cabins for rental. They have cute sheep in a pasture in back and a big pond nearby that is full of frogs who sing at night. They have fresh baked cookies down in the sitting area and bring you a nice breakfast to your room every morning. There's a swimming pool too Did I say how much I loved staying here? Tranquility, serenity, and country luxury is what you get staying at Chanticleer. I honestly don't think that they've missed any small detail in providing their guests with an amazing stay. I'm told that the lovely couple are new owners of the Guest House for about a year now. Based on our experience with our stay, I get the impression that they truly do stride in providing an amazing getaway for their guests. I love that it's so quiet out here and away from all the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas, yet close enough to jump in the car and travel up the peninsula. The breakfast delivered in the morning right to your door in a cute basket all the way to the warm cookies that greet you on your return home in the afternoon, speaks volumes to their attention to detail. We got to see some of the other rooms that were not occupied, and every single one was decorated with an upscale farmhouse motif. I just love this place! My friend and I did a girls weekend in Door County. It is off the beaten path which is just fine by me. We stayed in a suite in the house. Such cute vintage decor, very clean and it is so nice to have your breakfast delivered to your door. The owners are nice guys and suggested a great restaurant for dinner, Donny's Glidden Lodge Restaurant just up the road. Great things about Chanticleer: Privacy, pool/sauna, beautiful grounds & landscaping, no kids, rooms are balanced with older rustic and the newer modern decor, love the breakfast delivered to the room! There isn't much to say negatively. It's pricey, but worth the privacy. And the TV's are hilariously small in the rooms, but I guess who really comes here and watches tv is the excuse for that! :) We hope to return sometime when it's fall season and get that fireplace cookin. read more

I want to start off that I would highly recommend staying here. If you are into the bed and breakfast type places or if you are into your privacy, this place is still a must. Even though there were a few hiccups along the way, I still give them a 5 out of 5 stars. My boyfriend actually surprised me with a mini getaway in Door County for our anniversary and I am so glad he chose Chanticleer Guest House. We ended up staying in a cabin across the road from the main building. We were under the impression that the cabin was on site with views of the active sheep farm, but we were wrong. This actually made our stay more secluded, and private. At check-in we were greeted by one of the owners who was working hard outside to make the grounds beautiful. He told us to wait inside and would send the housekeeper to check us in. While we waited (a few min tops) we were able to enjoy warm cookies that were freshly baked. This is where a few hiccups happened. Since our getaway was a surprise for our anniversary he had added a few "add on's" to our package. The housekeeper read off our reservations and mentioned the price (which I didn't think he wanted me to know), she didn't mention anything about the add on's when my boyfriend inquired about them. She claimed they had no knowledge of it in their handwritten book. At this point I could see he was disappointed and I decided to step out so they could have a chat in private so I wouldn't hear the details of the surprise. As they left, they brought up the miscommunication to the owner who said he would double check the original booking. We should have called ahead to double check to avoid such experience. Long story short, the surprise add on's were figured out and made possible. Back to the amazing bed and breakfast. The cabin was absolutely incredible. You could tell every detail was well thought out, from the colors, decor, style, to our private view/deck. Breakfast was super delicious every morning and I looked forward to opening up the picnic basket of goodies. The only thing I wish was different was since our cabin was not on site we had to pick up our breakfast from the main building. It's not a huge deal but it still kind of sucked we had to make a short drive to get the food. All in all I still think they deserve 5 out of 5 stars and I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a relaxing stay in Door County. We can't wait to return! read more

It just doesn't get any better. I hate to give 5 stars and ruin the best kept secret getaway in door county, but Darren and Jeff work hard to make this the beer, most quiet, welcoming and perfect B&B on the planet. They are up and working at 0600 and finish around 2130. Heated pool, sauna, acres and Acres's of land, trails, waking up to roosters (ergo Chanticleer), sheep and evenings of pure silence. Beats the bustle of all the tourist traps further north on the peninsula. The only drawback is it's a 30 min drive to fish creek and more to sister bay, etc. the plus is, you're far enough south to easily get to the bailey's harbor side of the Door, then circle back from the top. Each room has its own charm and pluses/minuses. Seriously, you literally won't find better in Door. Simply perfect. Thanks for all you do to make our stay perfect every time, guys! read more

I'm a city boy from Chicago so I am always on the go and I have to say that this weekend get away with 5 of my other friends was perfect. We stood in a suite and a cabin, which both were clean, and offered everything you would need to have a great time indoors and outside. AC worked well and inside decor made it feel cozy. The pool area was a nice bonus and the amount of space you have from others on the property is more than enough. Close the town and yet far enough to feel like an actual camping get away. Highly recommend. The owners were very charming just like the surroundings of their home. read more

We stayed in the cabins and loved every moment of being there. The staff is the most friendly I have ever experienced at an Inn. The cabin was beautifully maintained and had a rustic charm throughout. It felt like home to us. The fireplaces were wonderful and we used the grill for dinner. We loved having our own kitchen. The property is immaculately maintained and every attention to detail is covered. There are hiking trails on the property and other trails nearby. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and I'm glad we could enjoy them in our cabin - another detail they thought of by providing it in a basket for you to take bake to your room. Ah, the Chanticleer. My boyfriend and I stayed here (in the Granary Suite in the Guest Barn, if you're curious) on our very first visit to Door County, and if I were to return to Door County, I would certainly stay here again. Pluses: The Chanticleer bills itself as a romantic-getaway sort of B&B, and they are absolutely right about that. The private balcony and the giant whirlpool tub are absolutely glorious. The room itself was also quite nice, extremely clean and comfortable, although the bed was pretty hard (but you could be into that). I appreciated the inclusion of a mini-fridge, as we were able to save leftovers and chill our white wine. The grounds are also gorgeous, and the sheep farm was a major point of excitement for me. The innkeepers were out of town for the weekend, but their understudies were very accommodating when we needed them. Minuses: The only real minus I can think of is the breakfast. The food was okay -- be warned, it's a continental-style breakfast -- but the coffee was pretty bad. It was so weak it looked like tea! I know I'm not the only coffee addict out there -- good coffee has got to be a requirement at a bed and breakfast. But honestly, although that's a big deal to me, it's the only thing keeping me from giving the Chanticleer five stars. I'd be back again in a heartbeat (and hopefully by then they will have rectified the coffee situation). read more

We were looking for a weekend getaway for Labor Day and found it at Chanticleer. The accommodations are immaculate and the quality of the place is amazing. We found the most significant thing about the place being the quiet at night - you cannot hear anything but complete silence. Being from the city, this was striking. Ours was the Grand Suite and it was Grand. It was very comfortable and everything was well kept and prepared. Breakfast was served in a picnic basket in the morning at an appointed time and we found it more than adequate and satisfying. We came for a weekend getaway and really got it. My husband and I came here for our one year anniversary and our "baby moon" and it was the best decision we could have made! We stayed in the Meadows room which is the loft of the building and it was so cute. The decor is very vintage and warm and inviting and felt like home. We were welcomed by our host, Darrin, who showed us to our room and told us how we could receive our complimentary breakfast delivered to our room (so awesome) in the morning, as well as how to get ahold of him if we had any questions. The property it sits on is equally as stunning as the guest house. We could sit on our porch and admire the scenery or watch the yard full of sheep roam around and play. Their dog, Jack, was a welcome surprise and greeted us every time we came back to our room. It is so nice that the guest house is not right in town because it was nice and quiet, and we didn't feel like we were running into people every time we left out room. We stayed in mid May and there was only one other room occupied while we were there. We would most certainly recommend this place to everyone we see and cannot WAIT to come back! Wow! That's all I could say when Darren walked us through the house at check in. Pool, sauna, a big whirlpool in the room, homemade breakfast brought to your room, the list goes on. This place is amazing. The absolutely spotless house (seriously, I didn't even see one spider web the entire time) is smack in the center of beautiful door county country side and the wonderfully friendly couple that own the chanticleer clearly meticulously upkeep the land and walking paths. I can't say enough about the attention of detail the two of them have. They even have a Tesla charger! The chanticleer was absolutely wonderful and really made our trip as great as it was. This dish is almost as juicy as the canned Dole peach and pear halves in heavy syrup Chanticleer served us Sunday morning. I could NOT make this up.... So pop some microwave popcorn, settle back and enjoy... Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. " 'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door; Only this, and nothing more." After retiring for the evening Friday night, who should come a rapping, tap tap tapping at our chamber door but the owner ... coitus interruptus! Offering us a midnight skinny dip in their private 'Jacuzzi'... nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.... Oh my... some peoples kids... talk about a full service B & B... sorta like the release at the end of a massage..... No charge for that service... And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me---filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating, " 'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door, Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door. This it is, and nothing more." Well, after spending all day Saturday erasing THAT momentary lapse in reason outta our blind mind's eye we retire for the evening into our marital bed when yet again, who should come a rapping, tap tap tapping at our chamber door but these trixie owners AGAIN only now it's "TURN IT DOWN!" , it seems our amorous adventure was at a ten and they needed us at a two... apparently we were too vivid and vivacious for the bonfire crowd... and trust me with this one thing, in the ice cream parlor of love, that night we ordered a small scoop of vanilla in a wafer cone, not rocky road or tutti fruiti but vanilla, not even creamy French vanilla custard ice cream... but wait... there is more... the owners offer us alternate accommodations in their... get this... their dungeon, complete with a leather sling... as if... I still often wonder if the Chanticleer dungeon is decorated with dusty country floral wallpaper, rayon lace doilies, #6 ceramic pickle jars, porcelain figurine knick knacks and mismatched distressed pine end tables... "Other friends have flown before; On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before." Then the bird said, "Nevermore." Last nights' fourgy became Saturday nights noise nuisance ... it was obvious these owners often proposition their guests with any number of morally compromising situations with some regularity, so take the moral superiority and righteous indignation down an octave O.K.? Desolate, yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted-- On this home by horror haunted--tell me truly, I implore: Is there--is there balm in Gilead?--tell me--tell me I implore!" Had a lovely Valentine's weekend in the Meadows Suite with my husband! Would definitely recommend the Chanticleer and hope to return one day. Pros: Huge, romantic suite at the top of the barn. Beautiful exposed wood beams original to the structure including a hay hook. Large sized jacuzzi tub. Fireplace. Raised four poster bed with steps. Private balcony. Large bathroom with tiled walk-in shower. Plenty of comfy seating throughout the room including a couch, 3 plush chairs, and a bench seat in the window overlooking the sheep. Lots of antique furniture throughout. Breakfast was delicious, on time, and hot! The Cinnamon Pumpkin bread was a treat as was the Apple Cinnamon Stuffed French Toast with Toasted Pecans. Our breakfasts also included yogurt with fruit one day and blended strawberries topped with whipped cream as well as coffee and OJ. They had freshly made, warm cookies in the lobby each afternoon as well as a basket of apples and bananas for those looking for a slightly healthier snack. Coffee was also available in the common room downstairs starting at 6am. Cons: The bed was too hard for our preference and we didn't sleep very well. However, to some folks this might be a plus. Would've loved if the room was stocked with a couple wine glasses although I'm sure they're available by request. Available toiletries were glycerin soap and shampoo. A few more toiletries would be welcome, including bath salts or bubbles. As you can see, the cons are very minor and are more or less suggestions for the Chanticleer. read more

We have visited Door County many times over the years. We've always stayed at the same place on the water in Bailey's Harbor, This time we decided to explore other options and stayed at the Chanticleer Guesthouse in Sturgeon Bay. A beautifully restored farmhouse and barn with several brand-new cabins across the road. When we arrived, we found fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to greet us. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We stayed in three separate rooms during our visit and each was better than the last. Or last two night we stayed in the wonderful Oak cabin. Such first-class amenities and wonderful country charm. Our hosts, Darren & Bryon were very accommodating. They have been in business now since 1993 and are very welcoming and gracious hosts. We really fell in love with spacious and charming Oak cabin - this cabin is more like a dream home then a rental property. We plan to make this our new home away from home. I could not ask for a better place to stay and so happy we came here. On top of this it is only a five minute drive to downtown Sturgeon Bay shops, theaters and restaurants. And each day Bryon delivers a wonderful fresh basket with good coffee, juice, breads and a warm dish to your room - very good! This place deserves a six star rating! read more

We did not stay at this Inn. We made reservations to stay for our anniversary, but were unable to follow thru on our reservations due to other events in our life. We made the reservation on a Saturday. We tried to cancel on a Monday but were told the fine print upon making the reservations would cause us to forfeit half of the room rate. What a scam this place is. I tried reversing the charge with my credit card but they had us dead to rights with there fine print on the web site. So we ended up paying half the room rate, they are not cheap, for nothing. We will never stay at a place that uses unreasonable tactics to scam customers. I will never recommend this place to anyone. WARNING go elsewhere. read more
