    Guest house suite. So nice!
    Debbie G.

I just love this place! My friend and I did a girls weekend in Door County. It is off the beaten path which is just fine by me. We stayed in a suite in the house. Such cute vintage decor, very clean and it is so nice to have your breakfast delivered to your door. The owners are nice guys and suggested a great restaurant for dinner, Donny's Glidden Lodge Restaurant just up the road. I really want to go back in the summer time because the pool, sauna and walking paths look great. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, go here.

Great things about Chanticleer: Privacy, pool/sauna, beautiful grounds & landscaping, no kids, rooms are balanced with older rustic and the newer modern decor, love the breakfast delivered to the room! There isn't much to say negatively. It's pricey, but worth the privacy. And the TV's are hilariously small in the rooms, but I guess who really comes here and watches tv is the excuse for that! :) We hope to return sometime when it's fall season and get that fireplace cookin.

I want to start off that I would highly recommend staying here. If you are into the bed and breakfast type places or if you are into your privacy, this place is still a must. Even though there were a few hiccups along the way, I still give them a 5 out of 5 stars. My boyfriend actually surprised me with a mini getaway in Door County for our anniversary and I am so glad he chose Chanticleer Guest House. We ended up staying in a cabin across the road from the main building. We were under the impression that the cabin was on site with views of the active sheep farm, but we were wrong. This actually made our stay more secluded, and private. At check-in we were greeted by one of the owners who was working hard outside to make the grounds beautiful. He told us to wait inside and would send the housekeeper to check us in. While we waited (a few min tops) we were able to enjoy warm cookies that were freshly baked. This is where a few hiccups happened. Since our getaway was a surprise for our anniversary he had added a few "add on's" to our package. The housekeeper read off our reservations and mentioned the price (which I didn't think he wanted me to know), she didn't mention anything about the add on's when my boyfriend inquired about them. She claimed they had no knowledge of it in their handwritten book. At this point I could see he was disappointed and I decided to step out so they could have a chat in private so I wouldn't hear the details of the surprise. As they left, they brought up the miscommunication to the owner who said he would double check the original booking. We should have called ahead to double check to avoid such experience. Long story short, the surprise add on's were figured out and made possible. Back to the amazing bed and breakfast. The cabin was absolutely incredible. You could tell every detail was well thought out, from the colors, decor, style, to our private view/deck. Breakfast was super delicious every morning and I looked forward to opening up the picnic basket of goodies. The only thing I wish was different was since our cabin was not on site we had to pick up our breakfast from the main building. It's not a huge deal but it still kind of sucked we had to make a short drive to get the food. All in all I still think they deserve 5 out of 5 stars and I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a relaxing stay in Door County. We can't wait to return!

I'm a city boy from Chicago so I am always on the go and I have to say that this weekend get away with 5 of my other friends was perfect. We stood in a suite and a cabin, which both were clean, and offered everything you would need to have a great time indoors and outside. AC worked well and inside decor made it feel cozy. The pool area was a nice bonus and the amount of space you have from others on the property is more than enough. Close the town and yet far enough to feel like an actual camping get away. Highly recommend. The owners were very charming just like the surroundings of their home.

Amazing, amazing place to stay! We honeymooned here 20 years ago and came back for our anniversary! It was just as magical as it was back then:). Spotlessly clean, peaceful and a perfect place to snuggle up:). The sheep outside and the very roomy stable suite were perfect. Plus the breakfast basket delivered each morning is delicious! Definitely recommend you run to the Chanticleer!

We stayed in the cabins and loved every moment of being there. The staff is the most friendly I have ever experienced at an Inn. The cabin was beautifully maintained and had a rustic charm throughout. It felt like home to us. The fireplaces were wonderful and we used the grill for dinner. We loved having our own kitchen. The property is immaculately maintained and every attention to detail is covered. There are hiking trails on the property and other trails nearby. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and I'm glad we could enjoy them in our cabin - another detail they thought of by providing it in a basket for you to take bake to your room. I know for a fact that I will be staying with them again.

My husband & I stayed at the Chanticleer cabins for our honeymoon. We loved every aspect of our stay. The friendly staff, the ease of making reservations, the cozy Evergreen cabin, the fact we saw wildlife every time we went outdoors, the jacuzzi & fireplace, the delicious breakfast, the warm cookies at the welcome desk, & the list goes on & on. We made a pact to visit Chanticleer on every anniversary. Couldn't think of a more perfect place to stay.

This review is primarily for the smallest cottage, the Firefly, built in 1948 by the owner's father and grandfather which my husband and I have stayed twice (2011, 2012). For those of you who haven't visited Door County, it is the "thumb" that juts out from the mitten-shaped state of Wisconsin. A peninsula, it's chock-full of nostalgia and quintessential locales that are down right Norman Rockwell. The Firefly cottages are situated just outside the largest city in Door County, Sturgeon Bay, WI. The property is on a very private lot with beach-side cottages in a quaint spot just north of one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the peninsula. It faces the lake side of Lake Michigan so the water is colder than the bay side and referred to as "the quiet side" of the peninsula. While it is perfect for a quiet getaway, it is not directly within walking or biking distance of shops or restaurants, unless you're an avid cyclist. We have stayed at this property 2 years in a row now, both times around the 4th of July. As I mentioned, this property includes three different rental options, so you will have other renters with you on the property however it still remains very private. The newest and most modern construction rental option and also the largest is called the hideaway (https://sites.google.com/site/fireflycottages3/the-hideaway-cottage). It sits the furthest back from the shore behind the firefly cottage and has more modern amenities. I have not stayed in this particular unit. It sits behind the firefly so may have more obstructed views of the lake but is bigger, more modern, and has a cool fire pit in the yard. The larger of the cabins, the Viking (https://sites.google.com/site/fireflycottages3/the-viking), is a quintessential summer family getaway. There is a big, open great room that includes living room, dining room, kitchen. It's very well maintained by its loving owner. The house also includes a bedroom and a lofted sleeping area with two double-beds. There is also a full bath with tub so it's great for families at all stages and of all sizes. I would recommend trying to rent the Viking if you have more than 2 adults or more than 3 people. The smallest of the cottages, the Firefly is just perfect for a small family, romantic getaway for a couple, or individual reflection retreat. We have had the most lovely time both times we have stayed here. There is literally no (AT&T) cell phone service so be prepared to be totally unplugged. Took me a day or two to get used to this and I totally recommend doing it. Hey, you only get away once or twice a year. The emails can wait. And if you really need access, you can go into "town." The Firefly cottage is basically a one-room cottage with a little porch on the front (see my pics!). There is a little kitchen that we found to have everything we needed. There is a queen size bed in the main room, and a small, non-working fireplace makes the place feel even more quaint. The front porch has a couch that pulls out into a bed. We brought along an extra camping mattress and put it on top of the pullout mattress the year the boys came along with us and they seemed to sleep very comfortable - and they are big teenage boys! The beach: sandy and beautiful. We spent many days just sunbathing or playing bocce ball along the beach. It is stunning! The only downside we found is that every few years the ale wife (minnow) die off. This results in a beach littered with dead fish (yuck). We still had a great time and just had to do a little tidying of the beach. There's no way to tell when this death of thousands of fish will occur so there's no point in trying to worry about it when you make your plans. The locals don't give it much of a thought. If you are a dog lover, this is a perfect spot for you. Irene allows pets and our dog had a stellar time chasing seagulls and snapdragons the entire weekend. Love. The Firefly is more suited for an individual or romantic retreat for a couple than for a family of 4 but could work for a small family if the children are small. The shower is small so swim and enjoy!!! (drafted July 2012)

So much outdoor space with places to sit and hangout. The tiki bar out front has a water view and they had a DJ one of the nights we were there! So fun to be able to walk a few steps outside and have an enjoyable outdoor experience. We didn't eat at the restaurant here because we had other plans but also a huge convenience. The pool wasn't functioning while we were there- this didn't impact our experience but something to note. We had an issue in one of our rooms with the air conditioning. It was not working. When we called Milan, the staff member who was super helpful our whole stay, came right away to apologize and try to fix it. Ultimately, the air was broken and unable to be fixed right away. We were refunded money and Milan made sure we were set with what we needed to be comfortable enough. We were fine with this. Even after the refund, Milan called us later that night to say that a room had opened up (they were fully booked this whole weekend so moving rooms was not an option initially) to tell us that there was a last minute cancellation. We found this extremely kind that he continued to try to make this inconvenience right even after the refund. Even though we had this inconvenience, the effort put in to fix it leads me to still rate it 5 stars. Milan was a huge part of making our stay enjoyable. He was extremely kind and provided great customer service. All in all, we would come back. The location is great.
