The pillows were down, but the kind that flattened and stay flat. The water in the shower is just gross. It left you feeling slimy. Never clean. My hair was a giant knot, no matter how much conditioner I used. Unfortunate. There is no microwave in the room. However , there is one by the coffee bar in the lobby. They also had a mini fridge with juices and flavored water. They did not offer water or ice anywhere. This was a huge inconvenience. We drink a lot of water and ice would have been nice. We did end up buying a case of water. As cute as the Blacksmith inn is, I would not go back. If you're not getting a good nights sleep it really affects your vacation. Not visiting in years, I recently had…read morea chance to go back to Door County with my husband, sister, and parents- AND it was like I remembered it with the added bonuses of now being an adult who can do more shopping (allowance becomes salary) and drinking (cider becomes cider). These are good things. Yes, it is a nice spot for young families, but you can also have a quality time with a group of adults. If you have never been or never heard of Door County (or DCW for us in the know), it is about five hours from Chicago (four if you speed, but you won't want to). Five hours is a completely manageable drive, when the weather is nice; when it isn't, you basically pray on a loop that you won't hit a deer. The anxiety just makes the drive more fun! In pleasant weather, you pass distracting places with huge signs that simply say "C-H-E-E-S-E" and "F-I-R-E-W-O-R-K-S" on them. Driving from Chicago, you basically follow the coast line of Lake Michigan until you can't drive anymore; DCW is the thumb on the hand of Wisconsin. For my Michigan natives, use your other hand to understand Wisconsin's hand geography. Where we have stayed at friend's cabins and some other hotels, we stayed at Blacksmith Inn on the Shore this time. Blacksmith Inn is beautiful and has many room options (including ones in the Harbor House next door). For this stay, we rented out the Orchard House across the street. The four-bedroom fully-functional house felt more like an airbnb rental than connected to the Inn, which was absolutely perfect. So much well-preserved vintage, comfortable beds, and an excess of bathrooms made this a great place for our group. There are many other stay options in Door County; with all of the inns, B+Bs, lodges, and actual airbnb rentals, you basically need to breakdown what are going to be the most important amenities for your stay and book accordingly, but this place was perfect for us.

We typically stay in Fish Creek, but since we booked our trip only a week in advance, there were no available accommodations there. We decided on Bailey's Harbor instead, which is just a 20-minute drive from Fish Creek, offering stunning views of the lake, surrounding nature, and charming villages along the way. I paid $200 for one night in a Trailside One Bedroom Suite, which featured an apartment-style layout with a queen bed, a pull-out sofa in the living room, a full kitchen, parking, and a lovely view of the wooded trail area. The room was spacious and clean, providing a cozy, cabin-like atmosphere that was more than enough for two people. The property itself is absolutely beautiful, with walking trails, stunning views of Lake Michigan, and a peaceful, secluded ambiance. It also offers a dock, beach area, hot tub, and pool, all surrounded by majestic pines. We were able to easily walk to the water, the breakfast hall, and other areas of the property. During our stay, we also noticed a small wedding taking place, adding to the charming atmosphere. The only thing preventing me from giving a 5-star review is the quality of the breakfast. It was typical of a basic hotel breakfast--scrambled eggs made from powdered eggs, cereal, coffee, juice, and so on. As someone who loves breakfast, it would have been a nice touch to have freshly made scrambled eggs and hashbrowns, which would have really elevated the experience for me. Overall, I'm excited to return in the summer to take advantage of the outdoor pool, hot tub, beach area, dock, and outdoor seating. I'm also looking forward to trying the restaurant on the property next time.

The property was beautiful and it was huge. There were options to stay in cabins, houses, and a lodge. There were also hiking trails and it sat on Lake Michigan so you could Kayak or swim in the pool over looking the lake. There were also basketball courts and tennis courts. You could basically spend your whole time on the property and have your vacation there. We stayed in Cabins. This one is the Spruce and it's where Leslie and I roomed. The cabin had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, and fireplace. And we had a gorgeous view of Lake Michigan right out front. Everything was so quiet on the campus. It was super relaxing and I got two nights of fantastic sleep! I also have to add they have hot water and there was great water pressure. Not everyone talks about bathrooms and showers, but for me a hot shower is like a cup of coffee. I don't like coffee and I need the shower to wake me up. They had super soft towels too. This is another small thing that is huge. I can't stand small scratchy towels. These were big and fluffy They also had a buffet breakfast and a restaurant. The breakfasts were amazing! They had different buffets each morning too. I had such a great stay!

The condos are nicely decorated and very clean. There is basic kitchen cookware and utensils. They always have Door County coffee, which is really good. I like the big jetted bathtub in the bathroom. There is also a shower. This resort is off the beaten path but that is what I love about it. Every room has a view of the lake. The beach and resort grounds are very nice. I like to enjoy the open windows and patio doors to hear the waves. There is a small indoor pool and hot tub. Both are nice. And clean. The restaurant right next door is amazing. Super cool inside with great drinks and food. Make reservations! I think the prices are inline with other resorts in DoCo. Super friendly staff. I know I'll be back next Fall!

The owner is super nice and helpful and goes above and beyond to help her guests enjoy the area. She has a sitting room with books and pamphlets on things to do in the area as well as restaurant menus on nearby places to eat. The room was nice and clean with our own whirlpool and fireplace with a shared balcony. She brought breakfast to our room around 830: a pastry, egg bake, and parfait with OJ that were tasty and we were able to eat in bed. Checkout isn't until 11 which is nice if you want to sleep in and not rush getting ready. There is also an associated lakeshore with chairs and a fire pit which we enjoyed. We would return here if we came back. It was a romantic place to stay.

The "breakfast" each morning was delivered to your room at 8am. The biggest thing for me was that it was brought uncovered so unless you got it within 2 minutes of arrival, it was cold. It has great potential if the place was updated and the innkeepers tried harder.

We both have health issues; they were all handled easily and flexibly. We stayed in a restored 1902 Dutch farmhouse, filled with antiques, but renovated to current comfort standards. Few Dutch farmhouses can boast a playable grand piano and a wood-burning fireplace in the parlor! The nearby barn is now a gallery and art studio. Both are surrounded by ten acres of grass, gardens, and paths. Monarch butterflies munch milkweed in a garden. Paige saw a hummingbird feed at a flower near her head while she relaxed in the pergola. A gazebo gives refuge from the sun. The Inn is midway between Door County's "coasts," away from the bustle of the tourist towns, but a short drive from them. It's far enough from town lights to be a dark sky location, where we could lie on the grass one night to watch airplanes, satellites, and meteors. What a treat! Our hosts Ed and Frank are multi-talented, funny, helpful, flexible, and full of wonderful stories from their travels and Ed's painting trips and classes. With extensive culinary backgrounds and as long-time residents, their restaurant suggestions are exceptional. Frank designs and maintains the landscaping and provides extraordinary breakfasts. The artistically arranged fresh fruit cups are a delight. Frank works in ink, pencil, and ceramics. His antiques background shows in collections of cut glass and teddy bears -- a few such among many. Ed paints in watercolor, gives classes, teaches workshops in the U.S., Mexico and Europe, and has showings in the gallery. He's a visiting faculty member at the Kansas City Art Institute and has had work in many national shows. We each bought some of Ed's and Frank's work. The Inn serves adults only; no pets are allowed. There are three rooms, one with a private bath; the other two rooms share a bath. The shower is exhilarating; the beds are very comfortable. Rates in 2019 are $135 and $149 a night. The Inn is an oasis of calm amid Door County's somewhat hectic pace. After hearing Ed's and Frank's stories about visitors returning year after year, some from the Inn's beginnings, we were surprised to see only one two-year-old Yelp review. We now think it's a well-kept secret. If you found this jewel, you might not want to share it. We enthusiastically recommend the Inn at Windmill Farm. We've already booked for next year at the height of the Perseids meteor shower.

Ed and Frank are two amazing innkeepers!…read more Where to start? This was our second stay at the Inn, and found both stays to be exceptionally enjoyable. This is a small, 3 bedroom B&B farm house. It is located fairly central in the Door County peninsula, allowing both easy access to most places one would want to visit, and the most amazing star filled skies only available when you are not near a town. Staying at the Inn, a most wonderful and lovingly prepared breakfast is included. Fresh fruit, home made waffles, perfectly crafted scrambled eggs! They will also adjust per your needs or requests. Rooms are quaint, with just enough farm house character to make them fun, while allowing a good night's sleep on very comfortable beds fitted with soft, freshly laundered sheets. The gardens are welcoming and comfortable. There is a patio with delicious grapes hanging from trellises, and flowers everywhere. Just the right amount of artwork is scattered around, but the focus is always on the growing beauty. Ed is also a watercolor artist who teaches classes in part of the restored barn. His paintings can be purchased, along with a wide variety of antiques or artwork in their shop. All of these elements of the farm form a cohesive experience. Each part compliments the other, and even staying only a long weekend, our souls were nourished.

The weekend I went also happened to be the Fall 50 marathon so places were booked up. Alpine was offering their off-season rates for their club house rooms (on the golf course, pretty remote but a close walk into town). I paid $175/night (normally $300+) for a king room overlooking the course. There is a 3 night minimum but I got the sense that if they aren't too busy, they're flexible on that. The pictures online don't do it justice, it's quaint and comfortable. On the weekends they put out fresh cookies and extra coffee. It was perfect for what I needed: some relaxation in between hikes and strolls through various Door County harbor towns. It's about a 20-30 min walk into the Main Street of Egg Harbor. While I was there, the restaurant in the club house was not open but it will be open Nov. 1 through the winter, which will be a nice option if it's super cold and you want to grab a quick dinner without going far. We had a nice room overlooking the golf course. This is a separate building from the resort main hotel & cabins, and is newly & stylishly furnished. Free coffee and refrigerator and rooms. Good location & access to rest of town. Five stars for great service, specifically Davante. They offer a free black car shuttle for guests, up to 5 miles from the resort. Davante, the shuttle driver, did a superb job. He was helpful, with good tips about the area. He communicated well about timing for pick-up and drop off. The shuttle is especially nice when you want to go to dinner and enjoy a few cocktails without worrying about driving home to the hotel. They should give Davante a raise, considering the number of negative other reviews on the resort. We had an opposite experience! Extra bonus points for having fire pits and a bar downstairs in the Clubhouse. This is a shared amenity with the golf club, but enjoyable nevertheless. We were even provided a s'mores kit upon request, and spent a bit of a lovely evening by the fire pits. Make sure to ask for the Clubhouse when booking!

We arrived on Friday around 5 p.m., and not a single parking spot was in sight. We ended up next door in an unpaved lot that was also packed, but with a little maneuvering (and some light praying), I managed to squeeze my car into something that vaguely resembled a space. At check-in, we asked what the parking policy was for paying guests. The front desk clerk smiled and said, "You will always have a spot." I looked at her and said, "Well... I don't now." And mentioned the joy of hauling all my stuff across two parking lots. She explained it was the Friday fish fry chaos, and that Saturdays and Sundays are just as fun with fish boils twice a day. Her advice? Come back late enough and you'll be golden. She wasn't wrong, but still. A little stressful. Now for the positives! The room had a fridge and microwave, which came in handy, and a sliding door that opened to a cute little courtyard. The beds were surprisingly comfy, and everything was clean. The room did have that slightly musty "I live near a lake" vibe, but nothing too tragic. Someone made off with our patio chairs, but at that point I was too relaxed (or maybe too tired from carrying my suitcase across the gravel lot) to care. The best part? The waterfront bar and grill on the property. Great spot to relax with a drink and enjoy the view. All in all, it was a comfortable, budget-friendly stay in a fantastic location right on the water. Just maybe pack a wagon for your luggage... and bring your parking patience.

This place absolutely sucks. Worst motel I've ever stayed at in my life. Why? Let's do this…read more 1. Our room has ants--our dog's food dish was swarming with them! Also had to kill 3 earwigs, 1 centipede and 4+ spiders. Didn't realize "pet friendly" means you can bring your rare bug collection. If you come here, bring a jumbo box of live preying mantises and turn 'em loose. They will be in heaven. 2. Water pressure in the shower is virtually zero. They don't have water pipes, just a 90 year old geezer with a bagel-size prostate weakly trying to tinkle on you. If it rains during your stay, get out there and try to rinse the shampoo out of your hair. Not sure if the old man handles the showers in all rooms, or if there is a team of them. 3. The carpets are stained and disgusting. Only thing missing was a chalk outline of a dead body. Do not recwalk on them barefoot. 4. The Wi-Fi is great--if you're happy with AOL dial-up from 1998. (Good way to prevent warning reviews like this?) 5. I'm not saying the beds are awful, but I am driving straight to my chiropractor. Had more restful nights sleep camping in a rock quarry. 6. The room smells like a really bad fart. (In fairness, that might be my girlfriend's fault.) Nah, I'm not giving this dump the benefit of the doubt. You'd think with the junkyard doors (gaps big enough for bugs to march right in without ducking their heads) the stank would eventually fade. Nope. The bouquet is musty with notes of wet dog, and a hint of decomposition. That reminds me--Beach Harbor Resort (resort!) is pet-friendly! Why wouldn't it be? There's nothing a pack of hounds with dysentery could do that would make this place worse. If the Association of Incontinent Senior Dogs is looking for a venue to hold their annual conference, book now. Just make sure your shots are up to date, especially tetanus. In summary, this dump sucks so hard it pretty much ruined my life. (That's saying something, considering how bad my ex and her parents were.) Think of a haunted house, minus the charm and character. Cannot believe they charged us anything to stay here, much less $200/night. The owners of this hellhole ought to pay for therapy for my girlfriend and our kids.
