Very average and overpriced. The quality has suffered over the years this used to be a good spot to go to.

Food was very demure! Was at the door by a fine looking Mexican who smelled strongly like a very expensive Cologne. His muscles really popped when he handed me my takeout food, made me feel safe and secure like if someone was going to try to attack me, he would save me. The beautifully decorated atmosphere, the elegant restrooms, the fresh flavorful food, the customer service with a smile, and the vibe. Highly recommend this restaurant. Our waiter was so friendly, accommodating and attentive. We wanted a somewhat private table during the busy lunch hour, and everything worked out great. The service was very fast too, considering the lunch crowd. We ordered the kids loco pollo, and the kids were like "wow! This is good mommy." That says a lot coming from my often picky 8 year-old. The taco salad was good. The highlight was the chips and salsa. Warning, don't get full off of the chips and salsa because the meals are quite large and filling. The 3 stars are very accurate. Too bad because this place could be really tasty. Everything we ordered tasted really good, but it took so long to get the food that it was cold by the time we got it. Rare to have this happen in a Mexican restaurant. The plates weren't even hot when the food arrived. Place is totally under staffed. One lady did the seating, cash register, waiting tables and serving the food. She may have actually been cooking the food too as far as I know! Poor woman is as working a busy lunch hour which was fairly busy!! For what it is worth, my parents went there on a separate visit and said they won't go back because every entree they ordered tasted the same. No flavor. Our meals tasted great, but were cold. Great value. Two of us shared 4 enchiladas. Brought our own home grown serrano and habanero peppers Took everything up a notch. Guac dip. Rice. A draft Mexican beer for me. Free chips and salsa. Don't know why I have never reviewed this place, maybe it's because I can't actually recommend it for the food. I like my Mexican food with some spice, so far everything I've tried is a little on the bland side. The grilled chicken salad is usually good, as it is not supposed to be spicy! Lol I do like the waiters and the margaritas on the rocks! On Wednesday the drinks are cheaper. I like this place, but if you are looking for some spicy Mexican food, I can not recommend it! read more

This is some really good Mexican food and comes in generous portions. I visited last month and had the enchiladas supreme, which were superb. The service is consistent as well. Chapala was better than the Mexican food that I had in Springfield on the same trip. read more

So, when you order the Enchiladas Poblanos, and the waiter assumes a visage of terror, and rather vehemently insists that you don't want the Enchiladas Poblanos, you get that queasy feeling and conclude that you chose the wrong restaurant out of the two that are open in Shelbyville on a Sunday night. But by this time you've powered down two Negro Modelos and a basket of chips and your as hungry as a post estivating arthropod. The waiter asks if you like pork-which of course you do- and he suggest the carnitas (something about the house specialty). So you go with that. They arrive on a large plate with the usual Spanish rice, refried beans, and mound of lettuce/guacamole/sour cream. And while they're not bad in terms of tenderness and size, they are as seasoned as a glass of tap water. That is to say, they aren't seasoned at all. You eat about half and walk back to the cozy Shelby Inn, and eat a night cap consisting of a Snicker's Bar and a few handfuls of cashews. read more

It's good food but not totally impressed with smaller portion size than other Mexican restaurants I've been to. I want to walk away full and I didn't. The salsa is great in taste but needs to be thicker. U won't know who to tip because u will get multiple waiters and at the end u have to flag someone down to get your bill. Don't expect great Mexican food nor service with a smile because they have neither. My carnitas was slightly dry on the outside and tasted a little old. It was however, tender. The sides - guacamole, pico etc were just meh. One of us ordered their chicken breast and I was expecting a good portion of the breast but what came out was a few rubbery thin slices of chicken. I had been wanting to try out the restaurant and made it after work tonight. I got there around 5:30 and was promptly greeted and given a table. Chips and salsa arrived quickly. My water came shortly after, along with someone to take my order. It was just a few minutes and my meal arrived. While the chips and salsa were ok, my meal was terrific. I decided to try the shrimp tacos or "Camaron Acapulco" and it was a great choice! 12-grilled shrimp cooked just right with guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce, tortillas and a tasty side of rice. Mexican is the one kind of restaurant that my family of six agrees. My husband could eat Mexican food every day, whereas I like to try all the restaurants. We were in Shelbyville scouting out all the amenities of the lake. I think most Mexican restaurants are the same. They all taste the same. They're all decorated the same. Nothing ever stands out. Well, I have to say this place does stick out. The food is horrible. The service is ordinary. The ambiance (minus the snazzy wood chairs) is barely a step outside of what used to be Hardee's. Usually, Mexican servers are chatty with kids and quite friendly. Not these guys. Making Mexican food from scratch is not difficult. It takes time at the beginning, but it can all be assembled rather quickly. I'm guessing way too much (if all) food comes from a can or is pre-made here. Just pass this place right on by and go to the cute little hamburger/ice cream stand up the road. read more

The food is comparable to most Mexican food places I've been. Not super spicey but not everyone likes super spicey. I like the salsa and chips. The service is usually pretty good. We usually go here once a month for dinner. I personally don't need my waiter to entertain me while dining out. They are all very friendly. read more
