We are regulars here, but usually for lunch. Went for supper last night. Warning: do not go to small town restaurants on Prom Night!! They were packed. We didn't have to wait for a table, but we waited for drinks, waited to order, and our food only came out after waiting over 45 minutes and complaining to the manager. We had already tried speaking with our server and his response was "I don't know". Well, find out, for goodness sake! Food was good once it got to our table. read more

Started with the margarita even though it was pre made it was tasty and garnished with lime and orange. Lime sort of dried out, and orange fresh. Ordered queso dip as a starter. Don't order the large it is too large. Queso was bland and really watered down with oil. Quite runny. Thicker with some green chili would be an improvement. I would pass on this one. On that bland theme, the Pecate that was served with the chips was also sort of bland tomato flavored. Not bad, just not Mexican. I expect this is what local Illinois expects. Ordered carnitas for the main course. The black beans were exceptional, carnitas tasty but also lacking in spice. Jalapeño served with accompaniments appeared to be of the sliced pickled canned variety. Other accompaniments (!home made pico de guyo, lettuce and guacamole made up for the jalapeño. Los Rancheros has been a favorite of mine for years. We go there weekly and sometimes several times a week. So last week we went and was waited on by Victor. He told us chips are now limited and even though we had someone come it late they couldn't have chips. Then he asks for our Tickets to cash out and we were not even done. So, we paid, then when we had someone come join us, he came over and said, "you will need to leave we need this table" (it was a booth) there were 11 empty tables with 4 chairs at each. There was no reason to kick us out. I put a post on their Facebook stating the manager should apologize to us. We were then three of us were blocked from their FB page. SO, IF YOU DO GO, tell the manager you would like to be seated anywhere but at one of Victors tables. We have given them so much publicity sense for year we have a group every Thursday of 10 to 16 people. And we always tip great. read more

I am from the Chicago area. My sister lives here, so I occasionally visit. I just wanted to say the food here is consistently amazing! I usually get the Mango Tilapia and Shrimp. It's so freakin good! I've also tried a few other menu items and each and every one is fantastic! The servers are also extremely friendly and helpful. The place used to a Golden Corral, then a Chinese place, and I guess now it's found its owners. owners who are here to stay because they have built quite a nice establishment. The place looks really well thought of with Good friendly service. Good place to take a big group as well. Serving size is reasonably large. Pour some drinks and you can have quite a lot if fun. Now the negs - the food quality is standard. Nothing that wowed me. Though, they do take care in the presentation of it. (Which is why the 3.5). To my taste - The beans are a bit salty, their cheese topping is good but the pinch of salt seems too much for me added with the beans. Lunch chimichangas aren't fried - they should have told me that. It's a chimichanga. And the meat inside felt a bit wet - but tasted okay. If I knew that, I would have ordered the entree. Nothing is too Mexican as far as the spices go. Modified for the American palette. Like even their salsa even though it felt fresh it tasted a bit too sweet. In the end - given the town. They are doing an excellent job. If I lived here - I'd be a regular! 4 stars! read more

I came here for a nice dinner with my friends and turned into a 2 hour stay waiting on food, drinks, and chips. I was ecstatic to go here and enjoy some Mexican food but turned into a trip to infierno... I will most likely not be going back to this establishment. There are other options to choose from in town and this is off the list. Also our orders were messed up and my food was cold. Very displeased. read more

I moved away from the Mainland U.S. 13 years ago and have really missed the great Mexican food I used to have in California. While visiting my sister and her family last week, I was pleasantly surprised to have dinner at Los Rancheros. Good service, yummy food, great flavors, and an excellent margarita. I had the chili colorado and just wished that I had been hungrier...but was happy to be able to take it home. Where do I even begin. I honestly have never wrote a review for ANYTHING, but this place would make anyone write a review. I believe in giving everyone a second chance, and obviously a third AND forth. I went in the first time to grab a to go order....They had opened on Monday and I went in on Friday. I called and placed my order over phone and was told it would be ready in 15 min. I gave them 20 because I expected them to be running a little behind with it being a weekend and a new restaurant. I arrived and stood at the front desk for 20 min...so at this point its been 40 min total. I finally questioned what was talking so long to be told by 2 young girls that they "had no idea". They didn't say they would check and continued to stand around and chat about their weekend plans. After another 10 min I said that I would just go ahead and leave and asked if they could credit my card back. This is when one of the girls finally went back to the kitchen and checked the situation out. She came out and proceeded to tell me that the order was not put under "TO GO" in the computer and it had been sitting on a plate in the back for 20 min. At this point I wasn't happy. The manager then told me that he was sorry, would credit my card back and be right back with my food. I told him the two girls obviously didn't know how to put a to go order in computer and he told me that they were still trying to get the hang of to go orders. SERIOUSLY? What part? Putting the food in a box OR a bag? GIve.me.a.break. I grabbed my food, a to go menu and left not happy. My food was just OK that I got. I didn't expect much since it had been sitting under a heat lamp for 20 min. I came home and looked over menu I had grabbed and seen that they had many things on menu that looked really good and had many unique mexican dishes. Pretty unheard of for such a small town. We decided to give them another chance. We ordered out again.. fajitas and an order of guacamole. They were much quicker this time and had it ready when we got there. We got home and had no flour tortillas for our fajitas, no toppings, AND no guacamole. We called, they didn't apologize, and we drove back and got the rest. A week later...we decided we would give it another go...(I know...we are CRAZY). We figured it had been 4 weeks since they opened...after a month..you would think they would have their to go orders down. NOPE. Once again no guacamole and no flour tortillas. I honestly thought someone was playing a joke on us. There was one thing left on the menu that my boyfriend really wanted to try...I said ok LAST TIME....we ordered last night and got home and had the wrong meal in our bag. WE ARE DONE to say the least. The hostess that take these orders over the phone are absolutely clueless and care more about looking cute and their weekend plans that getting your order right. They are the LEAST business savvy individuals I've ever came in contact with. If the owner would hire hostess over the age of 18, that had enough maturity to handle such a situation...then maybe my experience would have not of been so terrible. One positive thing I do have to say....The inside is beautiful...but who cares when they can't get one order right and don't know how to treat their costumers. By far THE WORST experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Once, twice, MAYBE 3 times...4? NO excuses. Save yourself the frustration and go to ANY other restaurant in Taylorville. Most ALL of them have great customer service...even the fast food restaurants have better service then this place!!! read more
