The owner was fair and honest with his prices. I saw a large selection of guns too, various swords and plenty of rare metals /coins if that also suits your needs/wants. I understand all gun businesses are probably against each other when it comes to recommending other places but I don't know why chaparral gets a bad rap from some of the other gun businesses in town but I had nothing but a wonderful experience with these people! They treated me awesome, didn't try to screw me over, and actually worked with me.. They are the only business in Temecula and Murrieta that was willing to work with me on certain items that I had that I was trying to sell... I live 1.5 hours away, so it's a testament to how great a shop Chaparral is. During my last two trips, I managed to get a couple of firearms on my want list, as well as some obsolete calibers that I was having difficulty sourcing online all of which were reasonably priced. Johnny knows his stuff, so it helps to ask the guy as he managed to find me a rare magazine in his box of stuff behind the counter. What a great bunch of people who own and manage Chaparral Coin & Gun. I needed to find a place to have a Private Party Transfer of a firearm, after a lot of searching and calling gun shop in Corona, Riverside, Moreno, Temecula, and other places only to be told by other gun shops the don't Private Party Transfers, are too busy to take a phone call or I have to make an appointment; I found Chaparral Coin & Gun in Murrieta who told me to come in anytime and gave the price (A very reasonable price) over the phone. I live near Impearl Beach, CA 75 miles (1.8 hours) away from Murrieta, and was buying a firearm from an Army Veteran brother that lives near that area. Chaparral Coin & Gun did the Private Party Transfer super fast! making it easy for me and the seller. I was working with the mother and son who own the store and they were extremely accommodating, professional, and courteous. After, the transfer I hung around and took a look at there used rifles and ended up grabbing a Remington Model 12A at a great price. All of their firearms used and new were reasonably priced and I don't just say that because I felt I got a good deal, I say that as a firearm collector who buys quite a few firearms in stores and at auction. Chaparral Coin & Gun has one of the best collections of ammunition I have seen during this crazy time of Civil Unrest and Pandemic panic buying. Even a large selection of specialty ammunition that is hard to find like; 8MM Mauser, Tokarev 7.62x25, .303 British, 7.62X54R, (I think I saw Nagant 7.62x38 but that may just be wishful thinking) and staple ammunition like 9MM, 10MM, 7.62X51, 7.62X39 were in stock and at regular prices, not inflated like other gun stores. For instance, for 20 rounds of MAXX Tech Chaparral Coin & Gun is only charging in the $7.00 range, can't remember the exact price, but even if it was $7.95 that still only .39 cents a round. Their Baer Subsonic was only 11.00 a box of 20; Walmart prices. In contrast; right now in a Chula Visita gun store I visited on Friday, is selling Tulammo 7.62X39 at $49.95 for 50 rounds ($1.00 per round!). Chaparral Coin & Gun will even support me using my Type 3 FFL and COE when I purchase ammo and guns. You would think all gun stores do but that's not the case. A major sporting goods chain would not honor my FFL and COE and told me I would not be exempt from the 10 day waiting period for a C&R rifle; another reason I ended up at Chaparral Coin & Gun. Even though its 75 miles, 150 round trip, I will be visiting Chaparral Coin & Gun when I need ammunition and they will be on my call list for used rifles. The staff, pricing, ammo selection make it worth my time and gas. Way better than 5 stars in my book. read more

Short story: They are knowledgeable,  professional, good listening solutionists. Longer: My weapons were taken by local PD for "safe keeping" after a non related tragedy had happened in my home. New State Laws and paperwork required made it impossible for me to get them back. (A process that took months to stumble through.) After explaining this, they had me sign over a power of attorney for the items to them. After a couple weeks they were able to return my property. They also told me that any time weapons need to be "held for safe keeping" they can hold them and keep this from happening again. They helped me finally close a terrible chapter in my life. The stuff is definitely cool, but John just totally rocks! These guys really love what they do. They love researching old stuff and helping you find a new home for your neglected objects. They will chat with you as long as you have time, so if you wanna learn something about some old item you have, bring it in. The fact is that they use greasy tactics to buy items as low as possible. It's an obvious ploy to take as much of a profit as possible. The in-store interaction was very polite on the surface. Gotta give them that. When I picked up on their sleazy sales tactics I politely left on my own accord. I even told them to enjoy their day. After I sold my gold items to another local dealer, I called and spoke to John. I wanted him to know how displeased with his attitude I was, and informed him I would be placing a negative review. Zero threats made. My original comment unedited: "Sleazy. Dishonest. Used car lot experience. Was considering selling some gold - which was previously appraised. Employee lied about the value, claimed that my gold was plated. I turned around an sold the items to another local shop for a fair value 30 minutes la Watch out!
