They also search for better ways for tenant care. The presentation was led by Ms. Marie Rodriguez, the president of "Happier at Home". It was an interesting event. Marie has been involved in the medical field for many years. She witnessed and experienced the personal care her mother received in her final days. This inspired her to create and form a company that could provide care for the elderly. And by this I mean, "care at home". Home is where the heart is, and by this presentation it was evident that "Happier at Home" goes out of their way to work with their clients.To provide care and help so they can stay within their own homes if having tough times.. In the presentation she went through many of her companies services, and there are many. They do a "free" in-home assessment, approx. 45 minutes. But 1 of many things stood out to me. She made it clear that they go out of their way to keep the same caregiver, medical aide, on the same job for the family, patient. She compares the patients life style, habits to one of her aides backgrounds and training. All of her aides go through a training and certification program. Complete with a background and drug test. Aides, care givers, are taught about fall prevention, senior fraud, prevention,cooking, safety and house keeping. In the home assessment Marie will discuss the basic problem of the patient in need. The health challenge,medication compliance, memory concerns, and transportation. The patients nutritional needs,being isolated, home cleaning and maintenance, medical alert buttons, special phones for the hard of hearing. They offer meal planning and preparation, transportation service, shopping for the patient, house keeping, doing laundry. They also have aides for companionship and mental stimulation. The list goes on! Throughout the presentation Marie answered several questions by tenants one on one. She handed out flyers with information about her companies services and what they offer and how she governs and guides their business. She sponsored a "welcome wagon" with beverages and snacks for tenants and continued to answer questions by tenants. I was pleased that I attended this presentation and impressed with Marie Rodriguez. I think that "Happier at Home" is a well organized business. I wouldn't hesitate to call them!

With the guidance of her medical staff and the understanding & permission of the Director & Staff of Mill Landing, we moved her a few months later to the Assistant Living side. She has flourished and adjusted well to the Assistant Living Side. My Mom is not able to do all the activities because of speech limitations & understanding but is treated and helped with respect and love each day. The staff never hesitates to contact me at any time to help in any situation that comes up in her daily living.From Christie, Margaret, Danielle, Terry ...ALL THE NURSES, Aids, Food Staff & Maintenance I highly recommend this facility. P.S. ....at one time I even reached out to The Administration of Leisure Care and they got back to me the same day with much respect & help :)

In the six months she was at Mill Landing she got exceptional care. Everybody from the top to bottom of the staff was friendly, helpful, and most importantly compassionate. It is difficult to put a loved one in the care of complete strangers. But in the time my mother was there, the staff became more like a family.

It was a quiet place after his weeks in the hospital. The doctor took more time with our family to explain his diagnosis than any other provider had done. Although I don't wish this experience on anyone, the Center made it easier on my husband and my family.

This was our mistake, but it was my mother-in-law decision, and her last. Yes, there were some phenomenal Nurses at this facility (Kelly, Jenn, and a night nurse). They were caring, skilled, did their job and had no issues. The girls at the front desk that recorded who entered and who exited the facility, were the only ones who gave me a reason to smile and momentarily take my mind off what was going on. I cannot say the same for the rest of the facility (Nursing and Administration). Every nurse should know their default answer is "Let me check with the Doctor". Every Hospice center should overly use this! If for no other reason, it buys time to think about your answer! if this would have been done here, then this wouldn't be a very negative review. This includes a male nurse that teaches at a near by university. He is highly over-rated. Hospice centers need caring Nurses who continually get to know and understand patients. Even though their stay will always be short lived. This male nurse belongs in a research facility where he can over think all day long, including how he should fold his underwear. He was not caring! After all, if the doctor says give an extra shot has needed! Give it! The first moment I questioned calling an ambulance and having my mother-in-law taken back to the Rochester hospital emergency room took less than ten minutes of entering Hildebrandt. We were given the drama queen nurse. She stated we had to leave our belongings in the hallway and get dressed into Garments because of COVID. When I stated we were out of town, and had our valuables in those bags, she repeated, leave them in the hall! When I asked how long this policy would last, she stated until the COVID test was over. When I asked how long the COVID test would take, she did not know. The Answer should have been only a few hours! Instead she left us thinking the test would take days. When I asked why the COVID test wasn't given back at the hospital to protect the Ambulance crew that transported her, we were confronted by administration and put in the quiet room. During this time her COVID test came back. I then made the mistake of asking the drama queen nurse if my mother-in-law could get some food, mainly milk, or soup that she was still drinking and tasting. Mrs. Drama's nurse obviously did not take her medicine that day. She tripped off-line. She stated they could not feed the guest and immediately went to my mother-in-law and took out her perceived argument with me, out on her patient! She told her "were not going to do anything here to hurt you". She said this to a woman who was having a hard time coping with the knowledge she was dying! This was the first moment, I felt my mother-in-law was in danger at Hildebrandt. I contacted the administration and told them what their drama nurse had done and asked about her qualifications. I specifically asked, does she know the default answer "Let me ask the Doctor". I then asked them to not have her come into my Mother-in-laws room again, as I viewed her actions has a physical attack upon my mother-in-law. This was not done. This set the tone for me and my other half who is thankfully, a Nurse herself. One of us stayed with my mother-in-law for her remaining thirteen days at Hildebrandt 100% of the time. Then we ran into the schizophrenic nurse with more senseless confrontations the Drama queen nurse could only dream of. If we were not cheerful, she would ask if she and her staff were safe. Did we have to say our loved one is dying and stopped talking that day? Did I have to say I was unpleasantly learning the stages of death has they were unfolding before me along with the medical terms such has modeling. When we brought food in that had knives, she went to her administration and said we had weapons.

She had PT 2 times a day, which is more than we thought she would get, but really helped get her back on her feet. She enjoyed the community activities. She met a new friend, who she still keeps in touch with since she left. The only thing she did not like was the food.

My review is regarding the nursing home care where my sister is a resident. She has extremely limited mobility. It seems the more help she needs, the worse her care gets. She is told she does not try hard enough, that she should be able to do things which she physically cannot do. There are a few good aides, but more often than not she finds their attitude inappropriate. As is the case in many of these situations, if she complains she fears retribution from the staff. It is the direct care part of this place that is lacking compassion and concern for the residents.

I feel as tho' I'm in a perfect place to be able to write a Review of Serenity House, in Victor,…read moreNY, as BOTH my parents were residents here and I've been a Serenity House Volunteer Caregiver, since 2000! My Dad, dying of stomach, lymph node and liver cancer spent his final 17 days being cared for by compassionate volunteer caregivers. Our Family members, from CA, PA, KY and SC, were able to come and go, with absolutely no "Visiting Hours". Because there was a separate guest bedroom for Mom, she was able to get some rest every afternoon, napping! My brother even gave Dad his last haircut, out on the deck...some special "Quality Time" together. The days we spent together at Serenity House, as Dad made his "Final Journey", were very memorable. Our daughter decorated her Gpa's room with photos of our years together! We were able to make Serenity House our Family's home during Dad's last days. Because our incredible experiences with Dad at Serenity House, several years later, Mom was actually in the very same room where Dad had died! She was peaceful and 'Ready' to join him. She didn't have cancer or heart issues, but her body had aged considerably. She was able to have whatever meals SHE wanted, or, some days, very little. Having caregivers spend time with her, was so special. Her care was exceptional. Again, Family spent quality time with her, as she declined. As a volunteer, I've come to befriend wonderful caregivers, coming from all walks of life, each with a passion for wanting to care for those in their final days. Family members of residents repeatedly comment, "I wish we'd brought our loved-one to Serenity House sooner!" It's so true, as I know, first hand, what a relief and what a 'weight off my shoulders' I felt once Dad and then Mom, were in the hands of Serenity House's caregivers. I could be a daughter, and not have to worry any longer about their emotional and medical care. Serenity House is such a GIFT to both residents and families.

It was a great comfort to us knowing she was being cared for by people who knew and loved her. They say that God has a plan - i often struggle with this - but this time I think he got it right. Despite my aunt's confusion as to why she was there, she always knew where she was and she was surrounded by familiar faces. Had she moved to Ludington this would not have been the case. The staff is extremely caring and…read morecapable, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is truly that of a home, not an institution. My young daughter loves visiting and has said she thinks it would be fun to live there. The difference between this "residential care home" and a nursing home is like night and day. At Bridges, residents get care that is genuinely guided by their needs, not the assembly-line style you find in a nursing home. As a nurse, I've worked in one nursing home and visited and toured many others. This place is head and shoulders above any other elder care facility I've visited, and I'm so grateful to have my grandmother cared for there.
