After a 2-week hospitalization, my 83-year-old sister was sent to Woodside for physical therapy. She had many excellent people who took care of her. She had PT 2 times a day, which is more than we thought she would get, but really helped get her back on her feet. She enjoyed the community activities. She met a new friend, who she still keeps in touch with since she left. The only thing she did not like was the food. read more

The building does need attention but the staff more than makes up for it. The care my mom is receiving has been excellent, given she has memory issues. The staff has worked with my mom to make sure she fit in and the food is not bad either. I couldn't do their thankless job. read more

My mother needed a skilled nursing facility, and I was given two options with 2 hours to decide where to send her from the hospital. We selected Woodside Manor Nursing Home after reviewing the NYS DOH, CMS and the Hurlbut website. All were misleading. The building is falling apart; windows need replacement, air-conditioning units are duct taped in the windows, carpet is filthy, and the ceiling tiles are stained from roof leaks. The base-board registers-heat is as old as the 1970's building. Overall, this facility would never pass a regulatory inspection (Joint Commission or DNV). I'm told the lack of funding from NYS is the reason for the condition of the building. If your family is offered a bed here, go and see the facility before accepting. You may be okay with this facility and at least you would be informed of what you were accepting. read more

It is extremely difficult to find a nursing home to entrust with the care of your loved ones especially when they are at a fragile stage of their lives. Here are the things I've come to know about Woodside Manor when considering if this was a potential location for my relative: The facility staff is warm and welcoming to both the residents and their families. They have events year round and try to make the enviornment pleasant for those staying there. This is inclusive of themed parties and as cute as tea parties. Just because you're in a nursing home doesn't mean you aren't able to have a good time! At Woodside Manor they have a goal to keep the turnover to a minimum to keep the faces familiar for the residents. This is extremely important to not only the families but primarily for the residents, many who may likely have memory problems and seeing someone familiar is more reassuring. Communication is key there. I want someone who will reach out to me with any updates or potential issues. I need to feel like they will take their time and walk me through any possible situations and not try to rush me through what can be an already strenuous situation. It seemed like the Director of Nursing or the Administrator were always available for any questions, to assist the staff or where just around the facility talking to and spending time with the residents. That brings me to another point, the facility is small! There is no issue with residents being lost or missing, which was an issue I rant into at another facility (imagine going to visit a resident and none of the aides know where she is -_- !). Everyone is accounted for and is taken care of according to their needs. I also considered their response to COVID. I reviewed previous POSITIVE reviews, since one was around three years ago and seemed very irrelevant, and the other stated that the actual visit went well but the reviewer took more issue with a staff member (understandable), and not being able to spend time with a loved one. Even though many things are less restrictive and opening back as they were previously there are still many concerns regarding cleanliness and how the residents are kept. I am not able to comment on the atmosphere years ago or anyone else's experience but I am able to say that all of the above are in complete contrast to what others experienced. I honestly believe that due to the sensitivty of these situations each person must go and take a look to judge for themselves without bias. My grandfather died here and they would not let my whole family in to be with him during his last moments (only two people were allowed in). The nurse was extremely rude as she kicked the rest of us out of the room, showing no empathy. Then after he passed, she left without coming out to the lobby to offer us her condolences. (I actually saw her walking out the back door.) Once she was gone, we were all able to go into the room (though my grandfather was already gone). As we were leaving, one of the other nurses shook her head at the fact that this nurse would not let us all be in there with him (but it seemed like she couldn't say it out loud). Their "covid restrictions" are arbitrarily excessive beyond state requirements. I have family in other nearby nursing homes that are less strict. The typical protocol is that you wear a mask, sign in, and show your vaccine card. I spoke to Woodside's administrator a couple of weeks later. She claimed that she talked to the nurse, who was "really sorry" for her attitude, but then turned around and defended the two-person policy--yes, even in the moment that a man was dying. She essentially said "I'm sorry, BUT...", which means "forget everything I just said". When I reflect back on my phone conversation with her, she added insult to my injury. I would rather she have said nothing than to be patronized. She comes across as sensitive and caring on the surface but I think she is a very gifted actor, nothing more. These were extreme circumstances under which we should have all been allowed in the room. End of story! In the time that my grandfather was there, (I heard) it wasn't all bad for him (wasn't allowed to visit him myself, though.) When I saw him the day before he passed, I was shocked to see how weak he was and a DIFFERENT nurse came in to check up on him and asked if she could give me a hug. I would like for the nurse who gave me the hug to know how much I appreciated that and I hope she got some recognition for it. For the other nurses there whom I heard good things about, I hope that they continue to keep a good moral compass even if their company does not. Another thing that bothered me is that they had the volume on all of their TV's turned down really low to the point that even I (with perfect hearing) could barely hear the TV. That shouldn't even be legal! It pains me to say this knowing that my grandfather did have several genuinely caring nurses tending to him in his time there, but my experience negates it all from my perspective. In response to the question "would you recommend Woodside Manor?", my answer has to be "ABSOLUTELY NOT! (At least not if you want to actually visit your loved one)". read more

Update: Three months later, and I've just settled a disputed charge from his stay there. The clueless new billing clerk sent a bill for $1800 to both me AND my sister, even though his secondary insurance was supposed to pay it, and I was the sole person responsible for his finances. Now, I'm not certain if it was because the person didn't know what she was doing, or if it was a crass attempt to get money before the patient dies and they would get caught up in probate? Regardless, 3 months later, yet ANOTHER person is in charge of billing (just how much turnover does this place have, anyway???), and sure enough, his insurance paid for it after all. Still, as I said in my initial review, my dad never had an appetite problem before coming to this place. After a couple of weeks here, he gave up on life, and died about a month later. May be coincidence, who knows? But the reality is, I wouldn't put anybody other than my worst enemy in this place. read more

I would most certainly recommend Woodside Manor Nursing Home! My mother has been there for almost a year now and have had such a positive experience. The facility staff is warm and welcoming. My mother was in another nursing facility for rehab a year or so ago, and there was a high amount of staff turnover which was very confusing for my mom as she never knew who her nurses were. At Woodside, we see the same faces every single time we visit. The nursing staff take their time with my mom and have always communicated with me. The social worker will contact me with any updates. The Director of Nursing and Administrator are always around on the unit, chatting with residents or assisting the nursing staff. The office manager has held our hands through the Medicaid process which has been a huge assistance. What impressed me the most and made me feel safe having my mom there was their response to COVID. Around Christmas a couple of the residents contracted the illness and the facility jumped into action. My mom received the antibody therapy at a time where it was difficult to come by. It is my belief that their quick response is the reason the illness didn't spread and not one resident passed away! The Administrative staff was readily available to answer any of my questions. I felt pure comfort. The facility is warm, welcoming, and truly home like. It's a small hidden gem. I'm so happy that I picked this home for her! Thank you, Woodside!!! read more
